        High Density Lipoprotein from Egg Yolk (EYHDL) Improves Dyslipidemia by Mediating Fatty Acids Metabolism in High Fat Diet-induced Obese Mice

        We investigated the effect of high density lipoprotein from egg yolk (EYHDL) on serum, hepatic and fecal lipid and fatty acids (FAs) levels and on gene expression involved in FAs metabolism. Male KM mice were fed either normal diet (ND; n=20), high fat diet (HFD; n=20), or high fat diet containing EYHDL (EYHDL; 0.6 mg/g, every day by oral gavage, n=20) for 100 days. At the end of the experiment, the effects of treatments on biochemical parameters, FAs profiles and involved gene expression were analyzed. Our results revealed that EYHDL markedly suppressed the body weight gain, accumulation of abdominal fat tissues, serum concentrations of LDL-cholesterol (LDL-C) and triglycerides, hepatic triglycerides and cholesterol accumulation, while increased serum concentration of HDL-cholesterol (HDL-C). EYHDL intake also increased total cholesterol (TC) excretions compared with HFD group. Moreover, it alleviated the severity of fatty liver and improved glucose and insulin tolerance compared with HFD. More importantly, EYHDL partially normalized FAs profiles in serum, liver and fecaces and neutralized the HFD-induced upregulation of SREBP-1c, Acaca, Fasn, GPAT and Scd1. In conclusion, our findings indicate that EYHDL may have the potential to improve metabolic disturbances that occur in HFD mice and can be considered as an appropriate dietary recommendation for the treatment of metabolic syndrome (MetS).

        Comparison of long-term effects of egg yolk consumption under normal and high fat diet on lipid metabolism and fatty acids profile in mice

        This study compared the long-term effects of EYconsumption under two diet conditions: normal (ND ?EY) and high fat diet (HFD ? EY), on lipid metabolism inmice. ND ? EY did not increase serum triglycerides, totalcholesterol hepatic triglyceride concentrations, adiposetissue accumulation and glucose impairment, not leading tofatty liver. HFD ? EY markedly decreased adipose tissueaccumulation, the triglyceride and total cholesterol, andimproved serum HDL-C and blood glucose impairmentcompared with HFD. PLS-DA analyzes showed bothND ? EY and HFD ? EY could decrease serum C18:1and MUFA. HFD ? EY could further decrease hepaticC18:2 and PUFA and increase C18:1 and MUFA excretion,which were associated with lower expression of Elovl6 andhigher expression of Scd1 in liver. These results suggestthat HFD ? EY significantly improved dyslipidemiacaused by HFD through modifying lipid metabolism, andND ? EY did not adversely affect the biomarkersassociated with dyslipidemia risk, but showed less obviousregulation of lipid metabolism than HFD ? EY.

        Voltammetric Sensor for Sudan I Based on Glassy Carbon Electrode Modified by SWCNT/β-Cyclodextrin Conjugate

        We reported a sensitive voltammetric sensor for Sudan I determination by modifying glassy carbon electrode (GCE) with single-walled carbon nanotubes (SWCNTs)/β-cyclodextrin conjugate. The cyclic voltammetry results showed that the modified GCE exhibited strong catalytic activity toward the electro-reduction of Sudan I with a well-defined cyclic voltammetric peak at -673 mV. Differential pulse voltammetry measurement showed that the response current exhibited a linear range between 50 nM and 5 µM, and the detection limit was as low as 2.22 nM (S/N=3). The enhanced electrochemical performance of the fabricated sensor was attributed to the combination of the excellent electrocatalytic properties of SWCNTs and the molecular recognition ability of β-cyclodextrin to Sudan I. The sensor was successfully applied to determine Sudan I in real food samples with satisfactory results.

        Microstructure Evolution of High-Alloyed Al–Zn–Mg–Cu–Zr Alloy Containing Trace Amount of Sc During Homogenization

        Microstructure evolution of a new high-alloyed Al–Zn–Mg–Cu–Zr–Sc aluminium alloy during two-stage homogenizationprocess was investigated by use of scanning electron microscope, transition electron microscope and high resolution transitionelectron microscope. The results indicate that the morphology and chemical composition of Al 3 (Sc, Zr) particles formedin the fi rst stage were greatly aff ected by heating temperature. With the increase of heating temperature, the morphologyof Al 3 (Sc, Zr) particles transform from cuboidal with evident faceting to spheroidal due to improved Zr diff usivity. MoreZr atoms enrich in the interface of precipitate/matrix forming a thin layer. Moreover, the mean diameter of precipitatesincreases a little bit with the increase of heating temperature, showing very restricted coarsening rate and high thermal stabilityof Al 3 (Sc, Zr) particles. After an appropriate second stage heat treatment (474 °C × 48 h), the intermetallic formed inthe solidifi cation process could dissolve suffi ciently and Al 3 (Sc, Zr) particles still keep very good coherency with Al matrixwithout abnormal growth.

        Key Technologies of Supercapacitor Energy Storage System of IP Transmitter

        A practical application of a supercapacitor energy storage system in a polarization instrument is proposed on the basis of theenergy storage requirements of an induced polarization (IP) transmitter for geophysical exploration. We focused on the energystorage system of a supercapacitor, the topology of the power converter, and the system control strategy as key technologies, andwe performed theoretical research and experimental tests on the system and developed an experimental platform. Theexperiments validated the theoretical research on the key technologies of the supercapacitor energy storage system anddemonstrated the effectiveness of the innovation. Results showed that the storage system is efficient and satisfies the energystorage needs of the IP transmitter.

        Cooperative Work of CRTS II Slab Ballastless Track-32m Simply Supported Girder under Pier Settlement

        Compared with the previous model, a simplified mapping model of CRTS II slab ballastless track between pier settlement and the vertical deformation of rail was proposed based on Timoshenko’s beam theory. A cooperative finite element analysis model was established for verification purpose and the analysis of interlaminar stress. The results showed that the emergence of pier settlement causes the appearance of the void of the sliding layer between the base plate and the box girder above the piers, and the shear cogging reduces the void length to a certain extent. It was also observed that the rail is deformed cambered at the side pier (the pier with no settlement on both sides of the middle pier) and downwards at the middle pier (the pier with settlement). Moreover, the comparison between the theoretical value of the rail deformation and the finite element result demonstrated that the proposed mapping model can precisely characterize the relevant relationship. A conclusion also can be drawn that the pier settlement is attributed to the additional stress on the interface between the track slab and cement and asphalt mortar (CA mortar), and the interfacial stress is increased due to the effect of shear cogging.

        Finger Vein Recognition Using Generalized Local Line Binary Pattern

        Finger vein images contain rich oriented features. Local line binary pattern (LLBP) is a good oriented feature representation method extended from local binary pattern (LBP), but it is limited in that it can only extract horizontal and vertical line patterns, so effective information in an image may not be exploited and fully utilized. In this paper, an orientation-selectable LLBP method, called generalized local line binary pattern (GLLBP), is proposed for finger vein recognition. GLLBP extends LLBP for line pattern extraction into any orientation. To effectually improve the matching accuracy, the soft power metric is employed to calculate the matching score. Furthermore, to fully utilize the oriented features in an image, the matching scores from the line patterns with the best discriminative ability are fused using the Hamacher rule to achieve the final matching score for the last recognition. Experimental results on our database, MMCBNU_6000, show that the proposed method performs much better than state-of-the-art algorithms that use the oriented features and local features, such as LBP, LLBP, Gabor filter, steerable filter and local direction code (LDC).

      • A High Accuracy Pedestrian Detection System Combining a Cascade AdaBoost Detector and Random Vector Functional-Link Net

        <P>In pedestrian detection methods, their high accuracy detection rates are always obtained at the cost of a large amount of false pedestrians. In order to overcome this problem, the authors propose an accurate pedestrian detection system based on two machine learning methods: cascade AdaBoost detector and random vector functional-link net. During the offline training phase, the parameters of a cascade AdaBoost detector and random vector functional-link net are trained by standard dataset. These candidates, extracted by the strategy of a multiscale sliding window, are normalized to be standard scale and verified by the cascade AdaBoost detector and random vector functional-link net on the online phase. Only those candidates with high confidence can pass the validation. The proposed system is more accurate than other single machine learning algorithms with fewer false pedestrians, which has been confirmed in simulation experiment on four datasets.</P>

        Surgical management of inflammatory bowel disease in China: a systematic review of two decades

        Background/Aims: The past decades have seen increasing incidence and prevalence of inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) in China. This article aimed to summarize the current status and characteristics of surgical management for IBD in China. Methods: We searched PubMed, Embase, and Chinese databases from January 1, 1990 to July 1, 2014 for all relevant studies on the surgical treatment IBD in China. Eligible studies with sufficient defined variables were further reviewed for primary and secondary outcome measures. Results: A total of 74 studies comprising 2,007 subjects with Crohn`s disease (CD) and 1,085 subjects with ulcerative colitis (UC) were included. The percentage of CD patients misdiagnosed before surgery, including misdiagnosis as appendicitis or UC, was 50.8%±30.9% (578/1,268). The overall postoperative complication rate was 22.3%±13.0% (267/1,501). For studies of UC, the overall postoperative complication rate was 22.2%±27.9% (176/725). In large research centers (n>50 surgical cases), the rates of emergency operations for CD (P =0.032) and in-hospital mortalities resulting from both CD and UC were much lower than those in smaller research centers (n≤50 surgical cases) (P =0.026 and P <0.001, respectively). Regarding the changes in CD and UC surgery over time, postoperative complications (P =0.045 for CD; P =0.020 for UC) and postoperative in-hospital mortality (P =0.0002 for CD; P =0.0160 for UC) both significantly improved after the year 2010. Conclusions: The surgical management of IBD in China has improved over time. However, the rates of misdiagnosis and postoperative complications over the past two decades have remained high. Large research centers were found to have relatively better capacity for surgical management than the smaller ones. Higher quality prospective studies are needed in China. Results showed that the storage system is efficient and satisfies the energy storage needs of the IP transmitter.
