Analysis of Undrained Shear Characteristics and Structural Damage of Granite Residual Soil

        Song Yin,Pengfei Liu,Pan Yan,Xianwei Zhang,Xinming Li 대한토목학회 2023 KSCE Journal of Civil Engineering Vol.27 No.9

Three-dimensional consolidation testing, scanning electron microscopy, and undrained triaxial testing of granite residual soil (GRS) in Shenzhen, China, were conducted. The effect of the structural strength of GRS was quantitatively analyzed using the method of comprehensive structure potential parameter description. The failure strength ratio of the soil decreases with increasing confining pressure, and it is approximately 1 when the confining pressure is higher than the yield stress (σs). The undrained shear strength (Su) of the undisturbed soil varies in stages with confining pressure σ3. The relationship between Su and σ3 for the reconstituted soil is approximated as a straight line through the origin. The soil’s comprehensive structure potential parameters (the structural contribution rates of the tangential shear modulus, mE, and the deviatoric stress, md) decrease linearly with increasing σ3. The mE and md sample values are similar under the same confining pressure. It is reasonable to use structure potential parameters to quantitatively evaluate the structure contribution rate of GRS. The microstructure is constantly adjusted, and the soil microstructure form for different confining pressures strongly correlates with its shear characteristics.

Antioxidant Activity of Silk Peptide and Co-initiation Behavior in Free Radical Photopolymerization of Acrylamide

        Xuying Nan,Lili Sun,Xinming Song,Mingshu Wu,Guangying Chen,Yuhua Yao 한국섬유공학회 2019 Fibers and polymers Vol.20 No.8

A water-soluble silk peptide (SP) was fractioned to a series of SP fractions with different molecular weight. Theantioxidant activity of these fractions was investigated by the ABTS and DPPH assays, and the co-initiating ability of eachfraction in type II photoinitiator was evaluated in photopolymerization of acrylamide, using camphorquinone as thesensitizer. Gel permeation chromatograph was used to investigate molecular weight distributions of SP fractions. The resultsshowed that with the increase of the proportion of the component with molecular weight of about 200 in SP fractions, antioxidant activity and co-initiation ability became poor. Four essential amino acids, Ala, Gly, Ser and Tyr of SP and theirrespective pentapeptides were also assessed for these two functions. Among them, pentatyrosine exhibited the most excellentperformance in two functions, which might be ascribed to its excellent electron/hydrogen donation capability. Andpentaglycine had good behavior in these two functions, suggesting that the polypeptide chain was responsible for electron/hydrogen donation. By 1H NMR analysis, it was speculated that the photoinitiation active center was located on themethylene group of pentaglycine. The electron/hydrogen donor of SP is the inherent reason for antioxidant function andphotoinitiation performance of SP.

Surgical management of inflammatory bowel disease in China: a systematic review of two decades

( Qiao Yu ),( Ren Mao ),( Lei Lian ),( Siew Chien Ng ),( Shenghong Zhang ),( Zhihui Chen ),( Yanyan Zhang ),( Yun Qiu ),( Baili Chen ),( Yao He ),( Zhirong Zeng ),( Shomron Ben-horin ),( Xinming Song 대한장연구학회 2016 Intestinal Research Vol.14 No.4

Background/Aims: The past decades have seen increasing incidence and prevalence of inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) in China. This article aimed to summarize the current status and characteristics of surgical management for IBD in China. Methods: We searched PubMed, Embase, and Chinese databases from January 1, 1990 to July 1, 2014 for all relevant studies on the surgical treatment IBD in China. Eligible studies with sufficient defined variables were further reviewed for primary and secondary outcome measures. Results: A total of 74 studies comprising 2,007 subjects with Crohn`s disease (CD) and 1,085 subjects with ulcerative colitis (UC) were included. The percentage of CD patients misdiagnosed before surgery, including misdiagnosis as appendicitis or UC, was 50.8%±30.9% (578/1,268). The overall postoperative complication rate was 22.3%±13.0% (267/1,501). For studies of UC, the overall postoperative complication rate was 22.2%±27.9% (176/725). In large research centers (n>50 surgical cases), the rates of emergency operations for CD (P =0.032) and in-hospital mortalities resulting from both CD and UC were much lower than those in smaller research centers (n≤50 surgical cases) (P =0.026 and P <0.001, respectively). Regarding the changes in CD and UC surgery over time, postoperative complications (P =0.045 for CD; P =0.020 for UC) and postoperative in-hospital mortality (P =0.0002 for CD; P =0.0160 for UC) both significantly improved after the year 2010. Conclusions: The surgical management of IBD in China has improved over time. However, the rates of misdiagnosis and postoperative complications over the past two decades have remained high. Large research centers were found to have relatively better capacity for surgical management than the smaller ones. Higher quality prospective studies are needed in China.
