        면접조사를 통한 초등학생의 영양교육 실태 및 실천도 조사

        This study investigated the experience and practice of elementary school students on nutrition education. The data were collected from 217 male and female students attending 5-6th grade elementary schools in Seoul and Kyunggi-Do from March to June 2007, interviewing face to face by a nutrition teacher and 3 interns of a nutrition teacher. The results were as follows: 86.5% of the subjects learned about ‘Table etiquette’, ‘Reasons for eating fruits and vegetables’ (78.7%), ‘Food waste and environment’ (72.3%), ‘Healthy snacks’ (55.7%), ‘Food sanitation’ (52.3%), ‘Food culture of foreign countries’ (48.1%). Nutrition education experience was significantly different by gender. A total of 43.5% boys responded that they never learned about ‘basic food preperation’ (p < 0.01). They had learned ‘Nutrients for body’ and ‘Food waste and environment’ in school, ‘Healthy weight loss’, ‘Food culture of foreign countries’, ‘Food circulation’ on television, Most content (‘Table etiquette’, ‘Simple cooking’, ‘Food sanitati n’, ‘Eating behaviors for health’, ‘Reasons for eating fruits and vegetables’, ‘Healthy snacks’) was learned from parents. The practice after nutrition education was higher in ‘Table etiquette’ (2.14), ‘Eating fruits and vegetables’ (2.07) than others compared with education experience. The most reason of non-practice on nutrition information was ‘Troublesome’. In ‘Nutrients for body’, a boy answered ‘Difficult for practice’ 20.0%, a girl answered ‘Difficult to understand’ 32.6%, showing a significant difference between the gender groups (p < 0.001). They remembered the ‘Nutrients for body’ (49.6%), ‘Food sanitation’ (44.5%) because of ‘important content’,‘Basic food preparation’ (40.6%), ‘Food culture of foreign countries’ (36.3%) because of ‘interesting content’, ‘Healthy weight loss’ (52.0%), ‘Eating behavior for health’ (44.5%) and ‘Healthy snacks’ (33.7%) because of ‘need for my health’.

        Perception of Safety and Life Satisfaction among Young Female Single-Person Households

        본 연구는 젊은 여성 1인가구들에게 있어서 안전에 대한 인식과 삶의 만족도의 관계를 분석하였다. 또한 분석 결과를 청년층 남성 1인가구와 여성 다인가구와 비교하여 청년세대 여성 1인가구에 나타나는 안전에 대한 인식과 삶의 만족도의 관계를 젠더와 가구형태의 관점에서 더욱 잘 이해하고자 하였다. 연구 결과, 청년세대 여성 1인가구의 삶의 만족도는 다인가구와 비교해서는 유의미하게 낮았지만, 남성 1인가구와는 유의미한 차이가 나타나지 않았다. 청년세대 여성 1인가구의 안전에 대한 인식은 남성 1인가구나 여성 다인가구에 비해서 더 부정적인 것으로 나타났다. 여성 1인가구와 여성 다인가구의 경우 개인적 수준의 안전 인식은 삶의 만족도에 영향을 주지 않았지만, 커뮤니티의 안전에 대한 인식은 유의미한 영향을 미쳤다. 반면 남성 1인가구는 개인의 안전 인식은 삶의 만족도에 유의미한 영향을 주었지만, 커뮤니티 안전 인식은 영향을 주지 않았다. This research examines perception of personal and community safety and life satisfaction among young female single-person households (FSHs). Safety concerns are critical to young FSHs but we do not fully understand how perception of safety is linked to life satisfaction for young FSHs. Statistical analyses found that FSHs’ level of life satisfaction was comparable to that of men living alone and lower than that of women living with others. However, FSHs had significantly more negative perception of safety compared to both male single-person households and female multi-person households. Personal safety was associated with life satisfaction of male single-person households while community safety mattered for FSHs. Policy implications of the results are discussed.

        KSHV vIRF4 enhances BCL6 transcription via downregulation of IRF4 expression

        <P><B>Abstract</B></P> <P>Primary effusion lymphoma (PEL), strongly linked with latent infection of Kaposi's sarcoma-associated herpesvirus (KSHV), constitutively expresses cellular interferon regulatory factor 4 (IRF4) while suppressing the expression of B cell lymphoma 6 (BCL6). Recently, it was shown that IRF4, a key transcriptional repressor of BCL6, might be a pivotal regulator of KSHV for balancing between latency and its reactivation in PEL cells. However, the action of the BCL6-IRF4 transcription factor axis during KSHV's life cycle is not clear. Herein we found that the KSHV lytic protein viral interferon regulatory factor 4 (vIRF4) dramatically enhanced the transcriptional activity of the BCL6 through the inhibition of its negative regulator IRF4. Using a chromatin immunoprecipitation (ChIP) assay, we further showed that vIRF4 bound to the specific promoter region of IRF4, contributing to a dramatic suppression of IRF4 gene expression. Correspondingly, we also found BCL6 expression to be positively and inversely correlated with vIRF4 and IRF4 expression, respectively, during KSHV reactivation. Finally, we observed that these processes require efficient KSHV lytic replication. Thus, our findings suggest a crucial role of the BCL6-IRF4 axis in triggering the transition between KSHV latency and lytic reactivation.</P> <P><B>Highlights</B></P> <P> <UL> <LI> KSHV vIRF4 enhances the BCL6 expression by inhibiting IRF4 expression. </LI> <LI> vIRF4 binds to the promoter region of IRF4 and suppresses IRF4 expression. </LI> <LI> vIRF4-mediated deregulation of BCL6-IRF4 axis requires efficient KSHV lytic gene expression. </LI> </UL> </P>

      • QTL mapping of Fusarium wilt resistance in radish (Raphanus sativus L.)

        Fusarium wilt (FW), caused by the soil-borne fungal pathogen Fusarium oxysporum is a serious disease in cruciferous plants, including the radish (Raphanus sativus). To identify quantitative trait loci (QTL) or gene(s) conferring resistance to FW, we constructed a genetic map of R. sativus using an F2 mapping population derived by crossing the inbred lines ‘835’ (susceptible) and ‘B2’ (resistant). A total of 220 markers distributed in 9 linkage groups (LGs) were mapped in the Raphanus genome, covering a distance of 1041.5 cM with an average distance between adjacent markers of 4.7 cM. Comparative analysis of the R. sativus genome with that of Arabidopsis thaliana and Brassica rapa revealed 21 and 22 conserved syntenic regions, respectively. QTL mapping detected a total of 8 loci conferring FW resistance that were distributed on 4 LGs, namely, 2, 3, 6, and 7 of the Raphanus genome. Of the detected QTL, 3 QTLs (2 on LG 3 and 1 on LG 7) were constitutively detected throughout the 2-years experiment. QTL analysis of LG 3, flanked by ACMP0609 and cnu_mBRPGM0085, showed a comparatively higher logarithm of the odds (LOD) value and percentage of phenotypic variation. Synteny analysis using the linked markers to this QTL showed homology to A. thaliana chromosome 3, which contains disease-resistance gene clusters, suggesting conservation of resistance genes between them.

        Because of global urbanization, smart cities are trending to solve urban problems efficiently and effectively. Korea has launched the U-city project on the New Town of korean local government since early 2000. Incheon city has also started the U-city project in Songdo New town. However, it faced challenges due to a top-down model based on provider s perspectives, high costs for the construction of infrastructures, and etc. Meanwhile, Incheon city is making a smart city, called Smart GIS Incheon based on GIS Platform. Incheon city has performed a sustainable smart city with 5 strategies which consist of Geo Governance, Global GIS trend, Smart Community, Big data, and Innovation. The smart city based on Incheon s GIS Platform can make a low-cost smart city possible and also enhance the transparency and trustworthiness of Incheon city by sharing knowledge and collaboration

        6가 철 페레이트에 의한 황화철 처리 연구

        In this study, Fe(VI) was applied to treat iron sulfide through oxidation of sulfide. Oxidation of FeS by Fe(VI) was studied at pH 9.2 with variation of the amount of FeS and the ionic strength at 10-4 M Fe(VI). Oxidation efficiency of FeS was evaluated by reduction efficiency of Fe(VI) with UV/VIS spectrophotometric analysis. Fe(VI) reduction increased as the amount of FeS increased. In order to discuss the kinetics of the Fe(VI) reduction, the data was fitted with the second-order rate expression. From the kinetic analysis, the second-order rate constant was determined as 4,940 L/mol/sec. Rate of Fe(VI) reduction by FeS gradually increased as the ionic strength increased. Reduction efficiency of Fe(VI) was quite similar without depending on the type of background electrolytes, except NaNO2 and Na2SO3. This result can suggest that fully oxidized anions such as ClO4-, NO3-, SO42-, PO43- as well as redox insensitive anion such as Cl- do not involve in the redox reaction between Fe(VI) and FeS.

        망간사에 의한 망간제거 특성 평가

        본 연구에서는 세 가지 다른 방법으로 제조된 망간사에 의한 용존 Mn2+의 제거특성을 회분식 및 칼럼실험을 통하여 조사하였다. 실험실 규모에서 망간의 주입농도를 달리하여 망간사 제조시, 모래에 코팅된 망간 코팅량은 주입된 망간 농도에 비례하여 나타났다. 망간사에 의한 용존 망간의 제거는 용액의 pH 증가에 따라 증가하는 양이온형 흡착경향을 따랐다. 흡착을 통한 용존 망간의 제거는 망간사 코팅방법 및 코팅량에 거의 영향을 받지 않고 모든 pH 영역에서 유사하게 나타났다. NaClO를 산화제로써 주입하였을 때 망간사에 의한 용존 망간의 제거는 NaClO 농도에 비례하였다. 이러한 결과는 NaClO 주입농도 증가에 따라 용존 망간이 망간산화물로 산화되고 이때 생성되는 산화망간이 망간사 표면으로의 코팅이 증가되어 나타난 현상으로 여겨진다. 칼럼반응기를 이용한 용존 망간제거 실험에서, NaClO를 주입하지 않은 경우에는 4,100 bed volume 이 후 망간의 파과가 이루어졌지만, NaClO를 주입하였을 경우에는 파과가 1.6배 지연되어 나타나서 산화제를 사용하는 것이 용존 망간의 제거율을 높이는 것임을 또한 확인할 수 있었다. Manganese-Coated Sand(MCS) prepared with three different methods were applied in the treatment of soluble Mn2+ in batch and column experiments. In the bench-scale MCS preparation, the coating efficiency of manganese on the surface of sand increased as the dosage of initial Mn(II) increased. The removed amount of the soluble Mn2+ by MCS increased as the solution pH increased, following a typical anionic-type adsorption. The removed amounts of the soluble Mn2+ through adsorption was quite similar over the entire pH range, without depending on the contents of Mn on the surface of sand as well as coating methods. When NaClO was used an oxidant, the removed amount of the soluble Mn2+ by MCS increased as the concentration of NaClO increased, This trend might be explained by the increased removal efficiency through coating of manganese oxides produced from oxidation of the soluble Mn2+ by NaClO on the surface of MCS. From the bench-scale column experiments, the breakthrough of Mn2+ occurred after 4,100 bed volume without presence of NaClO while 1.6-times delayed breakthrough of Mn2+ was observed in the presence of NaClO. This result also supports that the removal efficiency of the soluble Mn2+ could be enhanced by using NaClO.
