Very large PPC effect(σ_ppc/σ_A=10^5) in doping-modulated npnp a-Si: H superlattices could be obtained. B and P atoms, respectively, diffuse and so some parts compensated. Therefore, annealing activation energy of E_a=0.67eV is larger than one of reference n-type sample of E_a=0.26eV and annealing dark conductivity of σ_A=4×10^-[ohm cm]^-1 is lower than that of n-type reference sample of σ_A=2×10 exp (4)[ohm cm]^-1. From this results, very large PPC relatively have obtained. In this paper, we have observed that PPC effect depends on temperature and exposure time. On the basis of the experimental results, we discuss the existing models.

Cerebral amyloid angiopathy can cause intracerebral hemorrhage, progressive dementia, seizure and transient ischemic attacks. Dementia is a relatively common manifestation and associated with the presence of recurrent strokes and leukoencephalopathy. A 66-year-old right-handed man with hypertension and recurrent strokes presented with rapidly progressive dementia and sudden onset of dysarthria and dizziness. He showed memory impairment, personality and behavioral changes, and executive dysfunction for one and an half years. These symptoms developed insidiously and quite rapidly without fluctuation. Brain CT showed a small hemorrhage in the right cerebellum. Brain MRI, especially gradient-echo images revealed multiple cortical and cortico-subcortical microbleeds. Four weeks later, right hemiparesis suddenly developed and a repeated MRI showed a new left corona radiata infarction. We learn from this case that gradient-echo MR images should be performed in patients with rapidly progressive dementia and recurrent strokes.

Background: Thyroid hormone has been known to affect hepatic alcohol dehydrogenase (ADH) activity. Although the liver is the principal site of ethanol metabolism, stomach is also responsible in part for ethanol oxidation. The effects of thyroid hormone on ADH activity in gastric mucosa and other tissues of rats had not been previously examined. Method: The effects of thyroid hormone on liver, stomach, lung, and kidney ADH activities (nM of NADH/min/mg of cytosolic protein) have been investigated in male Sprague Dawley rats treated with propylthiouracil (50 mg/kg) for 14 days. Results: Whereas hepatic ADH activities were not changed by treatment with PTU(42.9(8.6 vs 45.2 (10.1), gastric ADH activities in PTU-treated rats increased by 258.8% of control rat (6.3 ( 0.6 vs 2.2 ( 1.2, p〈0.001). In the activities of other tissues, PTU treatment decreased lung ADH activity by 59.7% of control, and increased kidney ADH activities by 247.1% of control rats. Conclusion: These data suggest that hypothyroidism causes an increase of gastric alcohol metabolism, and that the increase of gastric ADH activity can partly restore the first pass metabolism of ethanol in hypothyroid rats.

Kimchi, in factories or during transportation, is usually stacked on shelves at different heights, which affects temperature and thus kimchi quality. In this study, a time-temperature indicator (TTI) was used to control such quality variations. A case study was conducted to evaluate the validity of using the TTI; one group of small packages of young kimchi had the TTI attached whereas the other group did not. They were stored on shelves of different heights (i.e., top, middle, and bottom) in a laboratory fermentor. The samples with TTIs were individually fermented until the color of the TTIs reached a threshold level, whereas the samples without TTIs were collectively fermented for a predetermined time at a given temperature. The qualities of fermented samples including pH, acidity, microbial counts, and reducing sugars were analyzed. The samples with TTIs had more uniform qualities that were closer to the targets than those without TTIs. These results suggest that TTIs are practical tools to control kimchi quality in terms of temperature variation.
