Current Status of Physical Activity in South Korea
Yoo Bin Seo,Yun Hwan Oh,Yun Jun Yang 대한가정의학회 2022 Korean Journal of Family Medicine Vol.43 No.4
The health benefits of physical activity have been well established. However, more than a quarter of the adult popu-lation in the world is insufficiently active (not performing at least 150 minutes of moderate-intensity physical activi-ty per week, 75 minutes of vigorous-intensity physical activity per week, or any equivalent combination of the two), and there has been little improvement since 2001. In South Korea, the prevalence of insufficient physical activity was 54.4% in adults and 94.1% in adolescents in 2020. There was continuous decrease in the prevalence of suffi-cient aerobic physical activity, from 58.3% in 2014 to 45.6% in 2020. However, daily duration of sedentary behavior increased from 7.5 to 8.6 hours in the same period. Interventions to promote physical activity are necessary in vari-ous fields including clinical and policy approaches. As physical activity has decreased during the coronavirus dis-ease 2019 pandemic, safer and more effective strategies to promote physical activity are required.

Objectives: Obesity is one of the most significant issues in global health due to its impact on health, socioeconomic burden. To better understand its etiology, this study investigated cross-sectional association between obesity and general characteristics (age, sex, income, education). Also, this study mainly focused on health related quality of life (HRQoL) and presence of depression as factors contributing to obesity. Methods: This survey investigated Korean population (n=5,808) from the Korea National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (2016). Chi-squared test, t-test, logistic regression analysis were used to explore the relationship between each characteristic and obesity. Multiple regression analysis was further undertaken to assess the relationship between depression and obesity. Results: Age, sex, education, smoking, stress perception, depression and EuroQol-5 dimension (EQ-5D) were found to be associated with prevalence of obesity. The odd’s ratio (OR) of higher EQ-5D score group to obesity was 0.24 (95% confidence interval, 95% CI=0.13-0.44), and through multiple regression analysis, the adjusted OR of depression to obesity was 2.37. Additionally, there was a higher probability that obese individuals would perceive themselves as obese than non-obese individuals. And obese individuals were less likely to have weight-loss for 1year. Among weight control behaviors, intake restriction (OR=1.30, 95% CI=1.10-1.53) and fasting (OR=1.82, 95% CI=1.12-2.96) were associated with prevalence of obesity. Conclusions: HRQoL and depression significantly affected to prevalence of obesity. These results suggest that HRQoL and mental health should be considered as important factors contributing to obesity.

<P>Abstract: </P><P>In a search for the wound healing accelerators, we found that tetraacetyl-phytosphingosine (TAPS), a sphingolipid metabolite produced by phytosphingosine acetylation, has significant inhibitory potential on healing of rabbit ear wound. As angiogenesis is fundamental to proper wound healing, we examined the effect of TAPS on angiogenesis using human umbilical vein endothelial cells cultured in vitro. TAPS markedly decreased vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF)-induced chemotactic migration and capillary-like tube formation. Recognizing its inhibitory potential on angiogenesis, we further investigated the action mechanism of TAPS. TAPS significantly inhibited VEGF-induced proteolytic enzyme production, including matrix metalloproteinase-2, urokinase-type plasminogen activator and plasminogen activator inhibitor-1. TAPS also suppressed VEGF-induced phosphorylation of p42/44 extracellular signal-regulated kinase and c-Jun N-terminal kinase. In addition, TAPS abolished VEGF-induced intracellular calcium increase, measured using laser scanning confocal microscopy. Together, these results suggest that TAPS exerts its inhibitory action on angiogenesis through the inhibition of mitogen-activated protein kinase activation and intracellular calcium increase, thereby affecting the process of wound healing negatively.</P>

Purpose: We describe a 54-year-old woman with systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) who suddenly presented with chorea and had positive antiphospholipid antibodies. F-18 FDG PET showed abnormally increased glucose metabolism in bilateral putamen and primary motor cotex. Tc-99m ECD SPECt also showed abnormally increased regional cerebral blood flow in bilateral putamen. She was treated with corticosteroid and aspirin after which the symptoms improved. Four months later, follow up F-18 FDG PET showed improvement with resolution of hypermetabolism in bilateral putamen. This case suggests that striatal hypermetabolism is associated with chorea in SLE.

<P><B>Abstract</B></P> <P>Many studies have been carried out on sensors for detecting hazardous chemicals. In this study, a sensor for detecting the presence of acid was developed and evaluated. The sensor is composed of carbon materials and polyaniline, which is a conductive polymer. Various candidate carbon materials for the sensor were examined, including graphite, reduced graphene oxide (rGO), and graphene nanoplatelets (GNP). From characterization of carbon material-polyaniline and acid reaction test, it was confirmed that the GNP was the best carbon material for the acid sensor. For practical use, the GNP–polyaniline composite was coated on PET to enable a flexible sensor.</P> <P><B>Graphical abstract</B></P> <P>[DISPLAY OMISSION]</P>
Noninvasive bi-graphical analysis for the quantification of slowly reversible radioligand binding
Seo, Seongho,Kim, Su Jin,Yoo, Hye Bin,Lee, Jee-Young,Kim, Yu Kyeong,Lee, Dong Soo,Zhou, Yun,Lee, Jae Sung Institute of Physics in association with the Ameri 2016 Physics in medicine & biology Vol.61 No.18
<P>In this paper, we presented a novel reference-region-based (noninvasive) bi-graphical analysis for the quantification of a reversible radiotracer binding that may be too slow to reach relative equilibrium (RE) state during positron emission tomography (PET) scans. The proposed method indirectly implements the noninvasive Logan plot, through arithmetic combination of the parameters of two other noninvasive methods and the apparent tissue-to-plasma efflux rate constant for the reference region (<img ALIGN='MIDDLE' ALT='$k_{2}^{\prime}$ ' SRC='http://ej.iop.org/images/0031-9155/61/18/6770/pmbaa383aieqn001.gif'/>). We investigated its validity and statistical properties, by performing a simulation study with various noise levels and <img ALIGN='MIDDLE' ALT='$k_{2}^{\prime}$ ' SRC='http://ej.iop.org/images/0031-9155/61/18/6770/pmbaa383aieqn002.gif'/> values, and also evaluated its feasibility for [18F]FP-CIT PET in human brain. The results revealed that the proposed approach provides distribution volume ratio estimation comparable to the Logan plot at low noise levels while improving underestimation caused by non-RE state differently depending on <img ALIGN='MIDDLE' ALT='$k_{2}^{\prime}$ ' SRC='http://ej.iop.org/images/0031-9155/61/18/6770/pmbaa383aieqn003.gif'/>. Furthermore, the proposed method was able to avoid noise-induced bias of the Logan plot, and the variability of its results was less dependent on <img ALIGN='MIDDLE' ALT='$k_{2}^{\prime}$ ' SRC='http://ej.iop.org/images/0031-9155/61/18/6770/pmbaa383aieqn004.gif'/> than the Logan plot. Therefore, this approach, without issues related to arterial blood sampling given a pre-estimate of <img ALIGN='MIDDLE' ALT='$k_{2}^{\prime}$ ' SRC='http://ej.iop.org/images/0031-9155/61/18/6770/pmbaa383aieqn005.gif'/> (e.g. population-based), could be useful in parametric image generation for slow kinetic tracers staying in a non-RE state within a PET scan.</P>

Although previous studies have shown that Ag nanowire (AgNW) is among the most powerful means to replace the brittleindium tin oxide, physically fexible devices using AgNWs are not yet available on the market mainly because of the insuffcientmechanical robustness of the AgNW-based electrodes. Here we propose a modifed inverted layer processing (ILP) tofabricate mechanically robust, near-foldable transparent conductors by totally impregnating AgNWs just under the surfaceof cured polyvinyl butyral (PVB). A single demerit of the original ILP, low surface coverage of conductive pathways, wasresolved by photo-induced heating of the AgNWs to settle them on a temporary substrate before coating and curing of thePVB. This resulted in wide coverage of conducting pathways on the surface of the AgNWs/PVB without compromisingthe ultralow surface roughness. Furthermore, the high strength and excellent compatibility of the PVB with the AgNWsfacilitated the preparation of near-foldable touch sensors.
