Rapid Detection of Trace 1,4-Dichlorobenzene Using Laser Mass Spectrometry
Ding, Lei,Ma, Jing,Zheng, Haiyang,Fang, Li,Zhang, Weijun,Kim, Duk-Hyeon,Cha, Hyung-Ki Korean Chemical Society 2006 Bulletin of the Korean Chemical Society Vol.27 No.9
The 1+1 two-photon Resonant Enhanced Multiphoton Ionization (REMPI) spectra of 1,4-dichlorobenzene was obtained from 240 nm through to 250 nm on a laser mass spectrometer. Special care was taken to build up a heatable sample inlet system suitable for detecting a trace semi-volatile organic compound and reducing the memory effort on the inner wall of the inlet system. The detection limits of 1,4-dichlorobenzene in ppbV/V concentration range at certain wavelengths are presented.

The warm needling technique used in traditional Chinese medicine has been shown to be effective in the treatment and prevention of knee osteoarthritis (OA), but the biological mechanisms behind this action have not been well explored. This study investigated the molecular mechanisms behind warm needling using cDNA microarray technology, thus providing further scientific evidence for its efficacy. Ten patients with knee OA of deficiency-cold syndrome were selected for 2 weeks of warm needling treatment. This treatment involved stimulating the selected acupoints using needles with a burning moxa stick on their handle for 40 minutes per session. Pain intensity and accumulated clinical scores of deficiency-cold syndrome were assessed pretreatment and posttreatment using a 40-factor questionnaire of OA with deficiency-cold syndrome. Four patients with the best therapeutic efficacy were selected for cDNA microarray testing. Among the four patients, 41, 246,57 and 70 differentially expressed genes were obtained, with more than 50% of these differentially expressed genes functionally linked to primary, cellular and energy metabolism pathways. This work demonstrates that the molecular mechanism behind warm needling treatment may be associated with the regulation of metabolism-related genes and pathways.

The advent of drug-resistant pathogens results in the occurrence of stubborn bacterial infections that cannot betreated with traditional antibiotics. Antibacterial immunotherapy by reviving or activating the body’s immune systemto eliminate pathogenic bacteria has confrmed promising therapeutic strategies in controlling bacterial infections. Subsequent studies found that antimicrobial immunotherapy has its own benefts and limitations, such as avoidingrecurrence of infection and autoimmunity-induced side efects. Current studies indicate that the various antibacterialtherapeutic strategies inducing immune regulation can achieve superior therapeutic efcacy compared with mono therapy alone. Therefore, summarizing the recent advances in nanomedicine with immunomodulatory functionsfor combating bacterial infections is necessary. Herein, we briefy introduce the crisis caused by drug-resistantbacteria and the opportunity for antibacterial immunotherapy. Then, immune-involved multimodal antibacterialtherapy for the treatment of infectious diseases was systematically summarized. Finally, the prospects and challengesof immune-involved combinational therapy are discussed.
