년도별 학교급식 제공에 따른 아동의 영양섭취량과 체력에 미치는 영향

This study was conducted to investigate the effect of yearly school feeding on nutrient intakes and physical ability of children by reviewing the four-year data (2008, 2009, 2010, 2011), including school feeding, physical ability, body development, of N-elementary school students in G-city. For the data analysis, we used SPSS win 18.0, especially repeated ANOVA for the difference among years with Bonferroni post hoc method and Pearson correlation for the correlation of body changes, with significance level of .05. The results are as follows. While energy (p<.001), protein (p<.001), thiamine (p<.001), and calcium (p<.05) showed the significant change among years, vitamin A, riboflavin, and iron did not. While cardiopulmonary endurance (p<.001), muscle strength (p<.001), and speed (p<.001) showed the significant change, flexibility and BMI did not. Both of height (p<.001) and weight (p<.05) showed the significant change. The positive effect of school feeding on height is greater than that on weight and it implied that school feeding played the key role in enhancement of cardiopulmonary endurance, muscle strength, and speed. In further studies, it is necessarily of the criteria of sex, grades, location on subjects and the systematic approach by multilateral dietary life survey for the clearer results.
연구개발 방향 정립을 위한 1MW급 OTEC 플랜트 경제성 분석 연구

신재생에너지의 하나인 해수열에너지의 자원화 기술은 해수자원의 다각적 이용을 위한 핵심기술로서 자원 확보와 환경개선을 위해 국내외에서 새롭게 주목을 받고 있으며, 기술선점을 위한 기술개발 경쟁이 갈수록 치열해지고 있다. 본문에서는 1MW 해수온도차발전 개념설계 결과를 바탕으로 경제적 타당성을 분석하였는데, 그 결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 1MW급 온도차발전 플랜트에서 해양심층수 및 표층수를 이용하여 전기를 생산할 경우 현재 국내 전기료 수준에서는 경제성이 미흡한 것으로 분석된다. 둘째, 해수온도차발전의 적지로 평가되고 있는 태평양 도서국에서는 전기의 보급률이 낮고, 전기료도 높은 수준이기 때문에 현재의 생산단가로도 충분한 경제성을 갖출 수 있다. 셋째, 현재의 국내 전기료 수준에서는 경제성이 부족하나 연구개발을 통해 50MW급 이상의 온도차발전 플랜트 상용화에 성공한다면, 탄소배출권 등을 종합적으로 고려할 때 경제성이 확보될 수 있을 것으로 판단된다. 특히, 해수온도차발전은 해수 담수화, 농수산 이용, 해저자원 개발 등과 연계하여 다목적으로 이용하면, 경제적 파급효과는 더욱 커질 것으로 판단되므로, 조기 실용화 및 보급 확산을 위한 연구개발을 신속히 추진할 필요가 있다. Annual power consumption of our country is positioned in the upper percentile in the world, and because the proportion of fossil power generation is high, which ranks the 7th CO₂ emission country. In this regard, government has established and is implementing the National Energy Basic Plan to realize to get out of fossilization in energy supply while focusing on securing the technology for renewable energy as well as its commercialization in order to reduce greenhouse gas. Resource recovery technology for deep seawater thermal energy which is one of renewable energies is newly getting attention domestically as well as in overseas for securing resources and environmental improvement as a core technology for multilateral use of marine resources for low carbon and green growth. Economic feasibility analysis was conducted for the research and development as follows on the use of ocean thermal energy conversion(OTEC). First, in the case of power generation using deep seawater and warm discharge water from OTEC plant of 1MW level, it is judged that the economic feasibility is insufficient but the feasibility will be significantly improved if we consider not only power generation but also certified emission reduction by developing the power plant to the size for commercialization. Second, the economic feasibility for the use of deep seawater as OTEC plant of 50MW level turned out to be very good. Especially, when we consider certified emission reduction, it will be possible to secure sufficient economic feasibility. When we use it in connection with OTEC, agricultural and fishery use, it is judged that economic ripple effect will be significant and therefore it will be necessary to conduct research and development for early commercialization, distribution and diffusion of deep seawater energy.

γ-Aminobutyric acid (GABA) exists in the brain and spine, increasing acetylcholine, one of the neurotransmitters in the body, and activating blood flow in the brain, leading to an improvement in brain metabolism. The ability of lactic acid bacteria to produce GABA can be judged according to the efficiency of conversion to GABA by Glutamate decarboxylase (GAD) after culturing with the addition of L-glutamate, a substrate, to the medium. In this study, Lactobacillus brevis FBL-3 was used for GABA production. In order to find out the effect of pH, temperature, and substrate addition on GABA production, the seed culture was inoculated into 2.5 L fermentor containing 1 L of medium. GABA was 32.51 g/L when the culture pH was not controlled during fermentation. The optimal conditions for GABA production were found to be pH 5.0 and 37°C, which resulted in 42.52 g/L of GABA. The production of GABA was significantly improved up to 72.121 g/L by adding substrate (10 g/L of glucose and 30 g/L of monosodium glutamate) under the optimized fermentation conditions. The volumetric productivity of GABA was 1.503 g/L/h.
The vertebrate fauna along the Hantangang (river) of Korea

Before the construction of Hantangang dam, we surveyed vertebrate fauna along the Hantangang River and collected samples. We collected 248 specimens (1,394 individuals) of 41 fish species from 10 families in four orders, including 17 endemic species and 5 endangered species. In our herpetofauna survey, we collected 47 amphibian samples of 10 species from 5 families in 2 orders, and 19 reptile samples of 5 species from 2 families in 1 order. We observed 25 species of bird (6 orders, 14 families) inclulding collection of 51 bird specimens (10 species from 5 families in 1 order). We collected 91 mammals of 6 species, and identified 7 species from field sign and direct observation from a total of 10 families in 5 orders. This collection and list comprise the final vertebrate faunal survey of the Hantangang region, and will provide basic scientific information for future research on conservation and restoration of the region.

Curcumin has diverse anticancer activities that lead to tumor growth inhibition of cancer cells and induction of apoptosis. Curcumin is involved in the regulation of multiple genes via transcription factors including NF-kB, STATs, AP1, and SP. Notch signaling plays critical roles in maintaining the balance between cell proliferation, differentiation and apoptosis, and thereby may contribute to the development of various cancers involving breast cancer. This study was to investigate the effects of curcumin on Notch1 gene expression and to explore the underlying mechanism. Here, we found that curcumin decreased the levels of Notch1 mRNA and protein in MDA-MB-231 human breast cancer cells, along with the downregulation of Sp family genes (Sp1, Sp2, Sp3, and Sp4). The repressive effect of curcumin on Notch1 gene transcription was confirmed by performing Notch1 promoter- driven reporter assay and three Sp-binding sites were identified on Notch1 promoter that may act as curcumin-respose elements. Moreover, treatment with mitramycin A, a specific Sp inhibitor, decreased the levels of Notch1 mRNA and protein in human breast cancer cells. Taken together, our results indicate that Notch1 gene expression is downregulated by curcumin, at least in part, through the suppression of Sp family, which may lead to apoptosis in human breast cancer cells.
Basic study on hysteresis modeling using micromagnetics for magnetic field analysis

In magnetic field analysis of electrical machines, hysteresis phenomena of B-H curves should be taken into account in order to obtain more accurate results. In this paper, the hysteresis modeling using the micromagnetics for the magnetic field analysis is investigated. In the micromagnetics, usually, it takes much CPU times. Therefore, the method for representing hysteresis phenomena by minimum modeling is investigated in order to applying it to the magnetic field analysis. First, the micromagnetics is described. Then, the method of minimum modeling is shown. Finally, the hysteresis curve obtained by the minimum modeling is demonstrated. The effect of parameters of micromagnetics on the shape of hysteresis curve is investigated.
