        Fluoxetine and Sertraline Attenuate Postischemic Brain Injury in Mice

        This study aimed to investigate whether selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs) attenuate brain injury and facilitate recovery following photothrombotic cortical ischemia in mice. Male ICR mice were anesthetized and systemically administered Rose Bengal. Permanent focal ischemia was induced in the medial frontal and somatosensory cortices by irradiating the skull with cold light laser. The animals were treated with fluoxetine or sertraline once a day for 14 d starting 1 h after ischemic insult. Treatment with fluoxetine and sertraline significantly reduced the infarct size. The Evans blue extravasation indices of the fluoxetine- and sertraline-treated groups were significantly lower than that of the vehicle group. Treatment with fluoxetine and sertraline shifted the lower limit of the mean arterial blood pressure for cerebral blood flow autoregulation toward normal, and significantly increased the expression of heme oxygenase-1 (HO-1) and hypoxia-inducible factor-1Ձ (HIF-1Ձ) proteins in the ischemic region. These results suggest that SSRIs, such as fluoxetine and sertraline, facilitate recovery following photothrombotic cortical ischemia via enhancement of HO-1 and HIF-1Ձ proteins expression, thereby providing a benefit in therapy of cerebral ischemia.

        키넥트 센서를 이용한 고령자 대상의 선자세 균형능력 평가

        Portable low-cost Kinect sensor was used to analyze standing balance ability of the elderly. Eighty subjects who can walk alone and have a normal cognitive level participated in this experiment. Based on Berg Balance scale (BBS) test with 52 points, subjects were divided into Healthy older (HO: 46 persons, BBS: 53.80 ± 1.19) and Impaired older (IO: 34 persons, BBS: 49.06 ± 2.03) group. Each subject performed 30 seconds four different standing balance tests (EO: Eyes Open, EC: Eyes Close, EOf: Eyes Open on foam, ECf: Eyes Close on foam). Five variables (Mean distance, Range of distance, Root mean square, Mean velocity, 95% ellipse area) were calculated from the hip joint center movement of Kinect sensor. Results showed that there were significant differences between groups for four different standing tests. Calculated variables from kinect sensor showed significant correlation with BBS score. Especially, mediolateral mean distance, mediolateral root mean square, mediolateral range of distance and 95% ellipse area showed discriminative ability for all tests. Mean values of variables of IO were higher than those of HO, which means the decreased balance ability in IO compared with HO. Therefore, it was possible to estimate simple balance assessment of the elderly using portable low-cost Kinect sensor.

        응급실에서 소아환자의 진정제로서 케타민(Ketamine)의 사용

        Background: Ketamine use in emergency room has been increased. It has rapid onset of action and appropriate duration of action. It does not need endotracheal intubation and produces potent analgesia, sedation, and amnesia. The object of this study is to determine the safety and the degree of physician's satisfaction in relation to ketamine use. Materials and Methods: This is a prospective study using protocol. Pediatric trauma patients who need sedation were given IM ketamine(4 ㎎/㎏) and atropine(0.01 ㎎/㎏) in a same syringe. Monitoring of patients was done by EM residents and complications of ketamine use were recorded. Physician's satisfaction was also recorded after the procedure. Results: Intramuscular ketamine was administered 54 times, mainly for laceration repair. Physicians completed protocol for 51 of treated children. The median time for onset of sedation was 6.5±2.4 min, and duration of action was 32.4±10.8 min. Hypersalivation occurred in 9.8%(n=5); random movement 3.9%(n=2), emesis during procedure(n=1), emesis at home(n=1), and transient oxygen desaturation(n=1). All were quickly identified and treated without specific airway management and sequelae. Of 84% of physicians was satisfied with ketamine use for pediatric sedation. Conclusion: Intramuscular ketamine can be administered safely and satisfactorily in emergency room to facilitate pediatric procedures in conjunction with a defined protocol and appropriate monitoring.

        This paper was undertaken to do morphological analysis of wear debris on no additive and additive lubricating oil. The lubricating wear test was performed under different experimental conditions using the wear test device was made in our laboratory and wear specimens of the pin on disk type was rubbed in paraffine series base oil by materials, varying applied load, sliding distance, oil additives such as stearine acid, DBDS, TCP. Morphologic character of wear debris is easily distinguished by four shape parameter(50% volumetric diameter, aspect, roundness and reflectivity). As the applied load sliding distance increase, size and shape of wear debris was complexed, but reflectivity was decreased, a large wear debris was apt to be oxidezed.

        호두 기름의 성분조성과 항알레르기 효과

        This study was conducted to investigate physicochemical properties and anti-allergic properties of walnut oil, pH, acid value and iodine value of walnut oil were respectively 4.9, 0.8 and 117. Most of general composition of walnut oil was crude fat(99.9%). Vitamin A and E were 0.06 and 10.25㎎/100g and the major fatty acids of walnut oil was linoleic acid(62.8%). Total phenolics and antiallergic effects of walnut oil were estimated 27㎎% and 62.82% at the concentration of 0.5% ethanol walnut oil. These results suggest that the walnut oil can provide one of the valuable resource for the functional foods.

        양극성 장애의 우세삽화와 임상양상 간의 연관성 : 예비연구

        Objective : This study was performed to fmd clinical implications ofdistinctive pattems in bipolar patients with predominance of depressive episodes or manic episodes and to find possibilities to predict predominant episodes in bipolar disorder. Methods : The recmitment period was between 2002 and 2004, among inpatients who had received psychiatric treatment for bipolar disorder. The data about the number and the polarity of the past episodes were collected through medical records, and Sub-jects were divided into depressive or manic episode predominant groups. The two groups were compared regarding Sociodemo-graphic and clinical variables. Results : 74 patients met the inclusion criteria during the study period. 21 subjects were classified as depressive episode Pre-dominant group (depressive episode group), and 53 subjects as manic episode predominant group (manic episode group). There were no differences in sociodemographic data, the number of total episodes and hypomanic episodes, and onset age. However, 90.5% (n=19) subjects of depressive episode group showed depressive episode as first episode, and 88.7% (n=47) of manicepisode group experienced manic episode as first episode (χ²=42.13, df=1, P<0.00l). Psychotic symptomswere significantly more prominent in the manic episode group (χ²=6.85, df=1, P=0.009), and the number ofsubjects who had suicide attempt experience was higher in the depressive episode group (χ²=7.39, df=1, P=0.007). In the comparison of highest GAF scores during the past year, significant difference was found between the two group (p=0.046), as the mean scores of depressive epi-sode group was 68.337±7.47 and manic episode groupwas 71.51±5.42. Conclusion : The results ofthis study show that there are differences in clinical features according to predominant episodes in bipolar disorder. The type of onset episode appears to be related to predominant episode in this study, and it would be a valid Pa-rameter with therapeutic implication in bipolar patients.

        불완전 전뇌 허혈후 소생의 백서 모델을 이용한 재관류 뇌혈류량과 허혈성 뇌조직 손상도와의 관계

        Background: Experimental data indicate that low-flow reperfusion following prolonged cardiocirculatory arrest may aggravate early cerebral microcirculatory reperfusion disorders. We investigated the influence of cerebral reperfusion flow change to the ischemic histopathologic damage of brain tissue after incomplete forebrain ischemia in rats. Materials and method: Anesthetized Sprague-Dawley rats were undergone ligation of both internal carotid artery by microvascular clamp for 10 minutes. After release of the clamp, reperfusion was started with several different flow levels (0, 10, 20, 30, 50, and 100%) of internal carotid artery comparing to pre-clamping phase using flowmeter. After 15minutes of reperfusion, rat brains were prepared by perfusion-fixation with 3% formaldehyde. Under light microscopic examination of Hematoxylin-Eosin stained tissue slide, histopathologic damage was examined at cortex, putamen, and hippocampus regions. Categorical hisotopathologic damage scores were derived in each regions by manual counts of ischemic neurons. Result: The histopathologic damage scores were 0, 10.2±0.5, 7.6±1.5, 5.9±1.4, 5.0±2.8, 3.5±0.7, and 1.0±0.0 in control, 0, 10,20, 30, 50, and 100% reperfusion groups, respectively(p<0.05). Conclusion: Our results showed significant increment of brain histopathologic damage scores along with decreasing amount of cerebral reperfusion flow after incomplete forebrain ischemia. We believe restoration of reperfusion flow to pre-ischemic level would be a critical component in attenuation of brain ischemic damage.

      • 위장관의 원발성 B 세포 악성 림프종의 재분류와 bcl-2, cyclin D1, bcl-6 및 p53 발현의 의미

        Background and Objectives : In recent years, the REAL (Revised European American Lymphoma) classification provided a new category of MALT (mucosa-associated lymphoid tissue) lymphoma and mantle cell lymphoma in B cell lymphomas. We have analyzed the expression of bcl-2, cyclin D1, bcl-6 and p53 and correlated with the subtypes and histologic grade of primary gastrointestinal B cell lymphoma. Also we investigated the usefulness of immunophenotypic features in diagnosis of low grade B cell lymphoma. Materials and Methods : Twenty-two cases of primary gastrointestinal B cell lymphoma were recategorized in low grade MALT lymphoma, low/high grade MALT lymphoma, high grade MALT lymphoma, and diffuse large cell lymphoma according to the morphological findings. We investigated the expression of bcl-2, cyclin D1, bcl-6 and p53 by immunohistochemical method. Results : The bcl-2 protein expression was higher in the low grade MALT lymphoma than in the high grade lymphoma. The cyclin D1 protein expression was negative in all cases. The expression of bcl-6 and p53 protein was negative in all low grade MALT lymphoma. Conclusion : The results suggest that we can differentiate the low grade lymphoma from the high grade lymphoma by immunohistochemical staining for bcl-2, bcl-6, and p53 protien.

      • 화상처리에 의한 주행 차선인식 알고리즘

        본 논문에서는 화상처리를 이용하여 고속도로에 그어진 차선을 정확하게 검출할 수 있는 알고리즘을 제안하고 이를 시험하였다. 본 알고리즘은 전 처리과정이 없이 원화상을 제안한 경사형 마스크에 의해 처리된다. 실험은 고속도로를 주행하면서 비데오 카메라로 영상을 녹화하였고, 이 영상을 Capture Board로 디지털영상으로 변환하여 본 알고리즘에 적용하였다. 차선검출 과정에서 좌측 및 우측 차선을 검출하기 위한 2개의 경사형 마스크를 사용하므로서 부분적 그림자 및 조도의 변화로 인한 경계선이 희미한 차선의 경우도 효과적으로 검출할 수 있음을 확인할 수 있었다. In this paper, we proposed and tested an algorithm which the road lane on express way can exactly be detected and recognized using image processing. This algorithm has no use for pre-processing, and the original image is directly processed by the two RAMP MASKs. In the experiment, we recorded the test images by a video camera while we were in driving. The recorded images were converted to digital images by the image capture board and applied the algorithm. In order to detect the left and right lanes, the two RAMP MASKs were used respectively. In the result, we confirmed that this algorithm can effectively detect the road lanes although the boundary line of both lanes have no clear due to partial shadows or variation of light.
