황순원 소설의 상징에 나타난 생태학적 관점

Novel named “Trees standing on the slope” was written by novelist Hwang Sun-won after the 1960s that belonged to latter half period of Hwang"s novel works. Before the 1960s, Hwang"s novel works described fragments of human world that expressed not only conciliation but also warm humanity, while after the 1960s, his works reflected realities of the society to investigate the society deeply. However, evaluation and rhetoric of his works came from his works at initial times. However, the novel works made change at quality level to a certain degree considering geopolitical factors more than Hwang Sun-won"s works in previous times did. Novel of “Trees standing on the slope” that belonged to novel of latter half period of Hwang Sun-won had different characters and symbols than those of other novels of Hwang had. This study criticized analysis upon characters focused on humanism to find out values from various kinds of points and to interpret Hwang"s point of view of the world at “Trees standing on the slope”. Sukee"s path could be interpreted to be motherhood of reconciliation and embracement from point of view of humanism that Hwang Sun-won adhered to. Such a thought could be criticism in the 1950s that was abstract and absolute humanism. And, mythified violence of motherhood was thought to be reinforced. In this study, ‘pruning’ of Chapter II interpreted value of dualism to investigate Sukee and her pregnancy from point of view of not common value but multiple values. Men could get new fruit after pruning of trees or could not. Suggestion of possibility of fruit was not thought to give optimistic prospect. On the contrary, focus on pruning was likely to finish end. Of course, the novelist gave an alternative for not only destruction but also construction in his novel work that could not be practical way of before and after realities. Value of individuals could not be judged from point of view of humanism behavior to overcome cruelty of war experience and to recover humanism. The ideology of humanism for affirmative and optimistic future of pains of post-war generation in the history was rather abstract and ideological. Hwang Sun-won deeply investigated by symbols and characters. For instance, an woman named Sukee was thought to be new character who overcame the limitation to be made by the novelist. The study investigated the work carefully to have viewpoint of current times. Study on Hwang Sun-won"s novel was not rescue of completed world but cognition on new realities with possibility of incompleteness to create characters and to interpret in various ways.

Elderly kidney transplant recipients have favorable outcomes but increased infection-related mortality

Background: The number of elderly patients with end-stage kidney disease has been increasing, but the outcomes of kidney transplants (KT) remain poorly understood in elderly patients. Therefore, we evaluated the clinical outcomes of elderly KT recipients and analyzed the impact of elderly donors. Methods: This retrospective cohort study included patients who underwent KT between 2000 and 2019. KT recipients were divided into four groups according to a combination of recipient and donor age (≥60 or <60 years); elderly recipients: old-to-old (n = 46) and young-to-old (n = 83); young recipients: old-to-young (n = 98) and young-to-young (n = 796). We compared the risks of mortality, graft failure, and acute rejection between groups using Cox regression analysis. Results: The incidence of delayed graft function, graft failure, and acute rejection was not different among groups. Annual mean tacrolimus trough level was not lower in elderly recipients than young recipients during 10-year follow-up. Mortality was significantly higher in elderly recipients (p = 0.001), particularly infection-related mortality (p < 0.001). In multivariable Cox regression analysis, old-toold and young-to-old groups had increased risk of mortality (adjusted hazard ratio [aHR], 2.89; 95% confidence interval [CI], 1.14– 7.32; p = 0.03; aHR, 3.06; 95% CI, 1.51–6.20; p = 0.002). However, graft failure and acute rejection risks were not increased in elderly recipients. Conclusion: In elderly recipients, graft survival and acute rejection-free survival were not inferior to those of young recipients. However, mortality, especially risk of infection-related death, was increased in elderly recipients. Thus, low immunosuppression intensity might help decrease mortality in elderly recipients.

Study on Leaf Production of Angelica acutiloba by Mulching with Polyethylene Film

This study was conducted to produce effectively more leaves of Angelica acutiloba through year-round production system by using various mulching materials and polyethylene(PE) tunnel. Soil temperature by covering treatment was higher in PE mulching and PE tunnel than in rice straw mulching, especially showing the highest temperature in PE tunnel from April through May. Water content of soil was higher in PE mulching than in non-mulching. Leaf production of Angelica acutiloba through year-round production showed the highest in PE tunnel and root production in PE mulching. These results suggest that leaf production of Angelica acutiloba can be maximized through PE tunnel cultivation system.

Linear motor feed drive systems have been broadly used in machine tools or precision automatic systems. Recently, modern machine tools require high speed and high precision feed drive system to achieve high productivity. Unfortunately, a feed drive system, even though it was designed optimally, may experience severe transient vibrations during high-speed operation if its feed rate control is unsuitable. A rough feed rate curve having discontinuity in its acceleration profile causes serious vibrations in the feed slides system. This paper presents a feed rate optimization of a machine tool feed slide system, which is driven by a linear motor, for its minimum vibrations. Firstly, a 4-degree-of-freedom lumped parameter model is proposed for the vibration analysis of a linear motor driven machine tool feed drive system. Next, a feed rate optimization of the feed slide is carried out for minimum vibrations. The feed rate curve optimization strategy is to find out the most appropriate acceleration profile with jerk continuity. Of course, the optimized feed rate should approximate to the desired one as possible. A genetic algorithm with variable penalty function was used in this feed rate optimization.

Development of a Reduction Algorithm of GEO Satellite Optical Observation Data for Optical Wide Field Patrol (OWL)

An algorithm to automatically extract coordinate and time information from optical observation data of geostationary orbit satellites (GEO satellites) or geosynchronous orbit satellites (GOS satellites) is developed. The optical wide-field patrol system is capable of automatic observation using a pre-arranged schedule. Therefore, if this type of automatic analysis algorithm is available, daily unmanned monitoring of GEO satellites can be possible. For data acquisition for development, the COMS1 satellite was observed with 1-s exposure time and 1-m interval. The images were grouped and processed in terms of “action”, and each action was composed of six or nine successive images. First, a reference image with the best quality in one action was selected. Next, the rest of the images in the action were geometrically transformed to fit in the horizontal coordinate system (expressed in azimuthal angle and elevation) of the reference image. Then, these images were median-combined to retain only the possible non-moving GEO candidates. By reverting the coordinate transformation of the positions of these GEO satellite candidates, the final coordinates could be calculated.

Case Report : A Case of Epstein-Barr Virus-associated Hydroa Vacciniforme

Hydroa vacciniforme (HV) is a photosensitivity disorder characterized by recurrent necrotic vesiculopapules on sun-exposed areas, which heal spontaneously during adolescence. Recently, an association has been reported between latent Epstein-Barr virus (EBV) infection and atypical HV-like eruption and malignant potential. However, latent EBV infection has also been reported in the setting of typical HV. An 11-year-old girl presented with recurrent, scattered, discrete vesicular eruptions with scarring on the face and the extensor surfaces of both forearms. In-situ hybridization was carried out to detect latent EBV infection. Based on the clinical and histopathological findings, typical EBV-associated HV was suspected. 장간막 림프절염으로 발현된 Kikuchi-Fujimoto병 1예

Kikuchi-Fujimoto 병은 주로 경부 림프절을 침범하는 질환이지만, 드물게 회맹부 장간막 림프절을 침범하여, 발열을 동반한 우하복부 통증과 반발압통을 나타내는 장간막 림프절염을 일으킬 수 있다. 급성 충수돌기염과 유사한 양상의 급성 복증을 호소하는 젊은 성인의 경우, 장간막 림프절염 여부를 확인하여야하며, 그럴 경우 Kikuchi-Fujimoto 병을 감별 진단에 포함시켜야 한다. 저자 등이 경험한 장간막 림프절염으로 발현된 성인의 KikuchiFujimoto 병 1예는 국내에서는 최초로 발견된 것이기에 문헌 고찰과 함께 보고하는 바이다. Kikuchi-Fujimoto disease or histiocytic necrotizing lymphadenitis is a benign, rare, self limitimg disease presenting with mainly cervical lymphadenopathy and fever unresponsive to antibiotics or medical treatment. A 28-year old man presented with fever and right lower quadrant abdominal pain. Physical examination showed abdominal tenderness and rebound tenderness mimicking acute appendicitis. Imaging studies showed normal appendix and other abdominal organs except enlarged multiple mesenteric lymph nodes. Symptoms persisted despite antimicrobial therapy. Multiple tender lymph nodes were palpable on bilateral cervical area at the 7th hospital day. The biopsy of the neck node showed large areas of patchy, irregular necrosis with prominent nuclear debris surrounded by T lymphocytes, histiocytes without neutrophils and granuloma, so he was diagnosed as Kikuchi- Fujimoto disease. With conservative management, clinical improvement was observed. We suggest that Kikuchi-Fujimoto disease with mesenteric lymphadenitis should be added to the differential diagnosis of acute abdomen mimicking acute appendicitis in young adults.

Effect of Activated Charcoal on Growth of Zingiber mioga ROSC

Activate charcoal (AC) can be utilized as a soil conditioner in agricultural crop areas. This study was conducted to investigate the effect of AC on growth and yield of Zingiber mioga ROSC as affected by different amounts of AC. The results obtained are summarized as follows. Growth characteristics including plant height and leaf length were the highest when activated charcoal added with 10-30%, suggesting that optimum amount of activated charcoal was ranged from 10 to 30%. Growth and enlargement of the root were improved by 10% AC with higher rhizome length and weight.

A Basic Study on Leaf and Stem Production of Angelica acutiloba

This study was conducted to develop effective production system in greenhouse for leaves and stems of Angelica acutiloba by using connect pots in 2003 and 2004. Seed germination rate and plant biomass of Angelica acutiloba collected in 2004 were higher than those harvested in 2003. Germination rate of Angelica acutiloba seeds collected in 2003 was 10%, while germination rate of seeds collected in 2004 was above 90%. Especially, plant growth and yield of Angelica acutiloba grown in connect pots sized with 4×4×5cm(length×width×height) were the highest. These results indicate that leaf and stem production of Angelica acutiloba can be improved by using connect pots and optimizing seed collecting time in greenhouse.

Rat의 복강내에 투여한 5-fluorouracil-polyglycolic acid 제형이 장기에 미치는 영향에 관한 연구

For more effective intraperitoneal chemotherapy, the authers made 5-fluorouracil-polyglycolic acid composite disks(FU-PGA disks) with 5-fluorouracil and polyglycolic acid, a biodegradable polymer. We inserted the FU-PGA disk into the peritoneal cavites of Sprague-Dawley male rats, the control and three experimental groups; one FU-PGA disk insert group(300mg/kg), two FU-PGA disk insert group(600mg/kg), and three FU-PGA disk insert group(900mg/kg). The control group received a similar number of PGA disk inserts. A pharmacokinetic study was performed to measure the 5-fluorouracil concentration in the peritoneal fluid, blood, and tissues(liver, kidney and heart) at 24 hours, 72hours and 168 hours after insertion of the FU-PGA disk. Light and electron microscopic studies were done. The results were as follows: 1) The number of white blood cells and platelets decreased after FU-PGA insertion. The degree was proportional to the duration and amounts inserted. The change in the number of red blood cells varied slightly. 2) Light microscopically, slight changes were noted at 168 hours in the 3 disk insert group (900mg/kg). Mild fatty change and hepatocyte degeneration around the central veins of the liver were noted, with vacuolar degeneration in the proximal convoluted tubules of the kidney. 3) Electron microscopically,the liver showed focal increases of lipid droplets in the hepatocytes, and irregular nuclear membrane with focal nucleolar segregation of the fibrillar and granular elements. Also the double membranous structure of the hepatocytes and Kupffer cells was widened with bleb formation. The kidney showed wide separation of the nuclear double membrane in the proximal convoluted tubular cells and mesangial cells, with vacuolation and myelin figure formation in the mitochondria of the proximal convoluted tubular cells, at 72 hours and 168 hours in the 2 to 3 FU-PGA insert groups. The heart showed focal loss of cristae,vacuolation and myelin figure formation in the mitochondria of the 2 to 3 FU-PGA insert groups. In conclusion, despite the large amont of FU-PGA inserted, the histopathological changes in the liver, kidney and heart were slight, and consonant with the very low amount of 5-fluorouracil concentrations detected in the liver, kidney and heart. The above results suggest that the FU-PGA composite can serve as a new device for releasing drugs in a controlled manner and easily targeted to intraperitoneal organs. This device can improve the efficacy of intraperitoneal chemotherapy for gastric cancer.
