      • Zn<sup>2+</sup> Effect on Structure and Residual Hydrophobicity of Amyloid β-Peptide Monomers

        <P>The aggregation of amyloid β-peptide (Aβ peptide) has been associated with the pathogenesis of Alzheimer’s disease (AD). In the present study, we aimed to disclose how Zn<SUP>2+</SUP> affects the Aβ aggregation in detail. Thus, molecular dynamics simulation was implemented to elucidate the changes of structure and residual hydrophobicity upon Zn<SUP>2+</SUP> coordination. Our results show that Zn<SUP>2+</SUP> can strongly influence the structural properties of Aβ40 and Aβ42 by reducing helical formation and increasing turn formation to expose the hydrophobic regions. Furthermore, hydrophobicity of Zn<SUP>2+</SUP>-Aβ40 and Zn<SUP>2+</SUP>-Aβ42 was much higher than that of each monomer, since Zn<SUP>2+</SUP> binding can significantly influence the hydrophilic domains of Aβ. The further analyses indicate that not only four residues (H6, E11, H13, and H14) but also R5, D7, K16, K28, and terminal residues influence hydrophobicity upon Zn<SUP>2+</SUP> coordination. Importantly, R5, K16, and K28 play a crucial role to regulate solvation-free energies.       • Tautomeric Effect of Histidine on the Monomeric Structure of Amyloid β-Peptide(1–40)

        <P>Histidine state (deprotonated, neutral, and protonated) is considered an important factor influencing the structural properties and aggregation mechanisms in amyloid beta-peptides (A beta), which are associated with the pathogenesis of Alzheimer's disease. Understanding the structural properties and aggregation mechanisms is a great challenge because two forms (the N-epsilon-H or N-delta-H tautomer) can exist in the free neutral state of histidine. Here, replica exchange molecular dynamics simulation was performed to elucidate the changes in structure and the mechanism of aggregation influenced by tautomeric behaviors of histidine in A beta(1-40). Our results show that sheet-dominating conformations can be found in the His6(delta)-His13(delta)-His14(delta) (delta delta delta) isomer with significant antiparallel sheet structures between R5-D7 and L34-G38, as well as between L17-F20 and L34-G38, implying that a new aggregation mechanism may exist to promote the generation of oligomers and/or aggregates. This work fundamental tautomeric behaviors of neutral histidine in the process of aggregation. is helpful in understanding the fundamental tautomeric behaviors of neutral histidine in the process of aggregation.</P>

        Energy Absorption Characteristics of PVC Coarse Aggregate Concrete under Impact Load

        In this paper, polyvinyl chloride (PVC) coarse aggregate with different mixing contents is used to solve the problems of plastic pollution, low energy absorption capacity and poor damage integrity, which provides an important reference for PVC plastic concrete used in the initial support structures of highway tunnels and coal mine roadway. At the same time, the energy absorption characteristics and their relationship under different impact loads are studied, which provides an important reference for predicting the energy absorption characteristics of concrete under other PVC aggregate content or higher impact speed. This study replaced natural coarse aggregate in concrete with different contents and equal volume of well-graded flaky PVC particles obtained by crushing PVC soft board. Also, slump, compression, and splitting strength tests, a free falling low-speed impact test of steel balls and a high-speed impact compression test of split Hopkinson pressure bar (SHPB) were carried out. Results demonstrate that the static and dynamic compressive strength decreases substantially, and the elastic modulus and slump decrease slowly with the increase of the mixing amount of PVC aggregate (0–30%). However, the energy absorption rate under low-speed impact and the specific energy absorption per MPa under high-speed impact increase obviously, indicating that the energy absorption capacity is significantly enhanced. Regardless of the mixing amount of PVC aggregate, greater strain rate can significantly enhance the dynamic compressive strength and the specific energy absorption per MPa. After the uniaxial compression test or the SHPB impact test, the relative integrity of the specimen is positively correlated with the mixing amount of PVC aggregate. In addition, the specimens are seriously damaged with the increase of the impact strain rate. When the PVC aggregate content is 20%, the compressive strength and splitting strength of concrete are 33.8 MPa and 3.26 MPa, respectively, the slump is 165 mm, the energy absorption rate under low-speed impact is 89.5%, the dynamic compressive strength under 0.65 Mpa impact air pressure is 58.77 mpa, and the specific energy absorption value per MPa is 13.33, which meets the requirements of shotcrete used in tunnel, roadway support and other impact loads. There is a linear relationship between the energy absorption characteristics under low-speed impact and high-speed impact. The greater the impact pressure, the larger the slope of the fitting straight line. The slope and intercept of the fitting line also show a good linear relationship with the increase of impact pressure. The conclusions can be used to predict the energy absorption characteristics under different PVC aggregate content or higher-speed impact pressure, which can provide important reference for safer, more economical, and environmental protection engineering structure design.

        중국유학생의 한국 유입 급증에 따른 대안 모색

        This paper focuses on understanding various problems facing Chinese students in Korea`s universities, reviewing Japan`s policy against overseas students and drawing policy implications concerning Chinese students in Korea. It is necessary that the Korean government and the universities in Korea should prepare the following measures. First, the Korean government and the universities in Korea should propose overall blueprints including entrance into school, the period of attendance at school and after graduation. And then, the government should propose the guidelines and policy assistance helping every university admit some students. Finally, each university should prepare the specialized strategy in granting admission to overseas students. It is desirable that the universities specialize in majors having relative advantage and grant admission to overseas students to apply for those kinds of majors.

        Recent Research Advances of High Strength Steel Structures and Codification of Design Specification in China

        High strength steel (HSS) with the nominal yield strength fy≥460 MPa has been applied in numerous modern building andbridge structures all over the world. Steel structures using high strength steel have obvious advantages in structural,architectural, economical, environment protection and energy saving aspects. After a brief introduction of early studies, recentresearch advances of high strength steel structures in Tsinghua University in China are comprehensively reviewed. Systematicinvestigations have been carried out on static- and cyclic-loading behavior of high strength steels and their welded connections,residual stress of high strength steel hot-rolled and welded sections, overall and local buckling behavior of high strength steelcolumns under axial compression, seismic behavior of high strength steel columns under combined bending and compression,bearing and slip resistance of bolted connections with high strength steel slices. The research results show that mechanicalbehavior of high strength steel structures has been improved much compared with ordinary strength steel structures, so thedesign methods in current design codes or specifications need be updated to be applicable to high strength steel structures. Therefore, as the chief-editor institute, Tsinghua University has organized 34 institutes including universities, design andresearch institutes, steel structure fabricators, and steel manufacturers, to codify a new code, i.e. Design Specification of HighStrength Steel Structures in China. Based on the above research results, new design methods and calculation formulaeapplicable to high strength steel structures are incorporated into this design specification. The outline of this specification isdiscussed in detail in this paper.

        星云大师“同体共生”重要思想作为一种对世界的整体认知、觉解,既是哲学、宗教世界观的形上理论范畴,又是普遍的方法论。这一思想包含了“身体”在宇宙、社会、精神中的必然存在、共生的丰富意涵,对具身化身体观和具身认知方法之理解不无裨益。星云大师的身体论述,凸显出身体于空间场域与精神场域的本质是统一、一体不二的,如此他便能应顺接受某些传统佛教所谓的 身体缺陷与不足,使得人间佛教身体观更加具有思想现代特征和宗教实践意义。 The idea of live together in coexistence is an important idea from grand master Hsing Yun, it is a kind of overall cognitive about our universe or the world, and also belong to the category of philosophy and religious world view of metaphysical theory. At the same time, the idea has been widely used as a general methodology. It includes the meaning that the body is necessary being and coexist in the Cosmic, social and spirit. It is also conducive to understand the body view of embodiment and embodied cognition theory. The discussion of master Hsing Yun indicate that the nature of body is an organic whole between space and mind,therefore, he can except some the drawback and insufficient of body which belong to the traditional Buddhism, and the Humanistic Buddhism body view will have more modern characteristics and religious practice significance.

        Neoadjuvant Chemotherapy-Guided Bladder-Sparing Treatment for Muscle-Invasive Bladder Cancer: Results of a Pilot Phase II Study

        Purpose Reduced quality of life after cystectomy has made bladder preservation a popular research topic for muscle-invasive bladder cancer (MIBC). Previous research has indicated significant tumor downstaging after neoadjuvant chemotherapy (NAC). However, maximal transurethral resection of bladder tumor (TURBT) was performed before NAC to define the pathology, impacting the real evaluation of NAC. This research aimed to assess real NAC efficacy without interference from TURBT and apply combined modality therapies guided by NAC efficacy. Materials and Methods Patients with cT2-4aN0M0 MIBC were confirmed by cystoscopic biopsy and imaging. NAC efficacy was assessed by imaging, urine cytology, and cystoscopy with multidisciplinary team discussion. Definite responders (≤ T1) underwent TURBT plus concurrent chemoradiotherapy. Incomplete responders underwent radical cystectomy or partial cystectomy if feasible. The primary endpoint was the bladder preservation rate. Results Fifty-nine patients were enrolled, and the median age was 63 years. Patients with cT3-4 accounted for 75%. The median number of NAC cycles was three. Definite responders were 52.5%. The complete response (CR) was 10.2%, and 59.3% of patients received bladder-sparing treatments. With a median follow-up of 44.6 months, the 3-year overall survival (OS) was 72.8%. Three-year OS and relapse-free survival were 88.4% and 60.0% in the bladder-sparing group but only 74.3% and 37.5% in the cystectomy group. The evaluations of preserved bladder function were satisfactory. Conclusion After stratifying MIBC patients by NAC efficacy, definite responders achieved a satisfactory bladder-sparing rate, prognosis, and bladder function. The CR rate reflected the real NAC efficacy for MIBC. This therapy is worth verifying through multicenter research.
