Nanocomposite particles composed of gold and iron oxide were synthesized with various ratios of gold and iron oxide in an aqueous phase using γ-rays. Iron oxide nanoparticles of γ-Fe2O3 or Fe3O4 were used as a magnetic phase on which gold nanoparticles with average diameters of 5-10 nm were supported. The efficiency of magnetic separation of biomolecules by the present nanocomposite particles was investigated using glutathione as a model compound. The amount of glutathione magnetically separated was significantly enhanced by the supported gold nanoparticles.

Background/Aims: An interim analysis of post-marketing surveillance of CT-P13, an infliximab biosimilar, was performed to evaluate its safety and efficacy in Japanese patients with inflammatory bowel disease. Methods: Patients were prospectively enrolled between November 2014 and March 2017, after the launch of CT-P13 in Japan, and case report forms of patients followed for at least 4 months were analyzed as of July 2018. Results: Of 523 patients in the analysis set, 372 remained on CT-P13 therapy, while 54 (20.2%) of 267 patients with Crohn’s disease, and 97 (37.9%) of 256 patients with ulcerative colitis were withdrawn during follow-up. A total of 144 adverse drug reactions (ADRs) were reported in 106 patients (20.3%). Infusion reaction was the most frequent ADR observed in 49 patients (9.4%). Efficacy parameters decreased immediately after the start of treatment in naïve patients to anti-tumor necrosis factor-α antibody. In the patients switched from originator infliximab for nonmedical reasons, the decreased parameters due to proceeded treatment with the originator were maintained in low ranges, and the treatment continuation rate was high with low ADR incidence. In contrast, in patients switched for medical reasons such as adverse event or loss of response, the incidence of ADRs was high. However, the efficacy parameters were improved, and the treatment continuation rate was not significantly different from that of the naïve patient group. Conclusions: In this interim analysis, CT-P13 was comparable to the originator infliximab with respect to ADRs and efficacy, and is therefore considered to be a cost-efficient interchangeable biosimilar for Japanese patients with inflammatory bowel disease.

Objective: Adipose tissue plays a key role in the development of obesity and diabetes. We previously reported that lignosulfonic acid suppresses the rise in blood glucose levels through the inhibition of ${\alpha}$-glucosidase activity and intestinal glucose absorption. The purpose of this study is to examine further biological activities of lignosulfonic acid. Methods: In this study, we examined the effect of lignosulfonic acid on differentiation of 3T3-L1 cells. Results: While lignosulfonic acid inhibited proliferation (mitotic clonal expansion) after induction of differentiation, lignosulfonic acid significantly increased the size of accumulated lipid droplets in the cells. Semi-quantitative reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction analysis showed that lignosulfonic acid increased the expression of the adipogenic transcription factor, peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor gamma ($PPAR{\gamma}$), leading to increased glucose transporter 4 (Glut-4) expression and 2-deoxyglucose uptake in differentiated 3T3-L1 cells. Additionally, feeding lignosulfonic acid to diabetic KK-Ay mice suppressed increase of blood glucose level. Conclusion: Lignosulfonic acid may be useful as a functional anti-diabetic component of food.

We present the {\it AKARI} far-infrared (FIR) all-sky maps and describe its characteristics, calibration accuracy and scientific capabilities. The {\it AKARI} FIR survey has covered 97\% of the whole sky in four photometric bands, which cover continuously 50--180 micron with band central wavelengths of 65, 90, 140, and 160 microns. The data have been publicly released in 2014 \citep{2015PASJ...67...50D} with improved data quality that have been achieved since the last internal data release \citep{2012PKAS...27..111D}. The accuracy of the absolute intensity is $\leq10$\% for the brighter regions. Quantitative analysis of the relative intensity accuracy and its dependence upon spatial scan numbers has been carried out. The data for the first time reveal the whole sky distribution ofinterstellar matter with arcminute-scale spatial resolutions at the peakof dust continuum emission, enabling us to investigate large-scaledistribution of interstellar medium in great detail. The filamentarystructure covering the whole sky is well traced by the all-sky maps. We describe advantages of the AKARI FIR all-sky maps for the study of interstellar matter comparing to other observational data.
An Ultra-precision Electronic Clinometer for Measurement of Small Inclination Angles

This paper describes an ultra-precision electronic clinometer, which is based on the capacitive-based fluid type, for detection of small inclination angles. The main parts of the clinometer low-noise electronics are two capacitance measurement circuits for converting the capacitances of the capacitors of the clinometer into voltages, and a differential amplifier for obtaining the difference of the capacitances, which is proportional to the input inclination angle. A 16 bit analog to digital (AD) converter is also embedded into the same circuit board, whose output is sent to a PC via RS-232C, for achieving a small noise level down to tens of ${\mu}v$. A compensation method, which is referred to as the delay time method for shortening the stabilization time of the sensor was also discussed. Experimental results have shown the possibility of achieving a measurement resolution of $0.0001^{\circ}$ as well as the quick measurement with the delay time method.
SMALL-SCALE STRUCTURE OF THE ZODIACAL DUST CLOUD OBSERVED IN FAR-INFRARED WITH AKARI

The zodiacal light emission is the thermal emission from the interplanetary dust and the dominant diffuse radiation in the mid- to far-infrared wavelength region. Even in the far-infrared, the contribution of the zodiacal emission is not negligible at the region near the ecliptic plane. The AKARI far-infrared all-sky survey covered 97\% of the whole sky in four photometric bands with band central wavelengths of 65, 90, 140, and 160~$\mu$m. AKARI detected the small-scale structure of the zodiacal dust cloud, such as the asteroidal dust bands and the circumsolar ring, in far-infrared wavelength region. Although the most part of the zodiacal light structure in the AKARI far-infrared all-sky image can be well reproduced with the DIRBE zodiacal light model, there are discrepancies in the small-scale structures. In particular, the intensity and the ecliptic latitude of the peak position of the asteroidal dust bands cannot be reproduced precisely with the DIRBE models. The AKARI observational data during more than one year has advantages over the 10-month DIRBE data in modeling the full-sky zodiacal dust cloud. The resulting small-scale zodiacal light structure template has been used to subtract the zodiacal light from the AKARI all-sky maps.

Far-infrared observations provide crucial data for the investigation and characterisation of the properties of dusty material in the Interstellar Medium (ISM), since most of its energy is emitted between ~ 100 and $200{\mu}m$. We present the first all-sky image from a sensitive all-sky survey using the Japanese AKARI satellite, in the wavelength range $50-180{\mu}m$. Covering > 99% of the sky in four photometric bands with four filters centred at $65{\mu}m$, $90{\mu}m$, $140{\mu}m$, and $160{\mu}m$ wavelengths, this achieved spatial resolutions from 1 to 2 arcmin and a detection limit of < 10 MJy $sr^{-1}$, with absolute and relative photometric accuracies of < 20%. All-sky images of the Galactic dust continuum emission enable astronomers to map the large-scale distribution of the diffuse ISM cirrus, to study its thermal dust temperature, emissivity and column density, and to measure the interaction of the Galactic radiation field and embedded objects with the surrounding ISM. In addition to the point source population of stars, protostars, star-forming regions, and galaxies, the high Galactic latitude sky is shown to be covered with a diffuse filamentary-web of dusty emission that traces the potential sites of high latitude star formation. We show that the temperature of dust particles in thermal equilibrium with the ambient interstellar radiation field can be estimated by using $90{\mu}m$, $140{\mu}m$, and $160{\mu}m$ data. The FIR AKARI full-sky maps provide a rich new data set within which astronomers can investigate the distribution of interstellar matter throughout our Galaxy, and beyond.

Purpose Crizotinib has demonstrated superior progression-free survival (PFS) and objective response rates (ORRs) versus chemotherapy in previously treated and untreated patients with anaplastic lymphoma kinase (ALK)-positive advanced non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC). We report the safety and efficacy of crizotinib in Asian subpopulations of two global phase III trials. Materials and Methods This analysis evaluated previously treated and untreated patients in two randomized, openlabel phase III trials of crizotinib versus chemotherapy in ALK-positive advanced NSCLC in second-line (PROFILE 1007) and first-line settings (PROFILE 1014). Efficacy and safety were analyzed by race in the intention-to-treat and “as-treated” populations for efficacy and safety endpoints, respectively. Results In previously treated (n=157) and untreated (n=157) Asian patients, PFS was statistically significantly longer with crizotinib versus chemotherapy (hazard ratio for PFS, 0.526; 95% confidence interval, 0.363 to 0.762; p < 0.001 and hazard ratio, 0.442; 95% confidence interval, 0.302 to 0.648; p < 0.001, respectively). Similar antitumor activity was seen in the non-Asian and overall populations. ORRs were statistically significantly higher with crizotinib versus chemotherapy in both Asian and non-Asian previously treated and untreated patients (p < 0.05). The most common treatment-emergent adverse events (any grade) with crizotinib were vision disorder, diarrhea, and nausea, which were observed at a comparable incidence across Asian and non-Asian populations, irrespective of previous treatment status. Most adverse events were mild to moderate in severity. Conclusion These data, currently the only analysis showing Asian and non-Asian populations in the same study, support the efficacy and safety of crizotinib in Asian patients with previously treated or untreated ALK-positive advanced NSCLC.

The objective of this study was to evaluate the influence of the intensity of perceived tactile stimuli on the difference of the spatial location on the palm. Air-puff stimuli were presented on 16 different locations on the palm as well as the tip of the index finger. Participants performed magnitude estimation protocol, where each tactile stimulus was evaluated in terms of the stimulus intensity. The results revealed that the relationship of perceived tactile intensity between distal and proximal sides showed no significant difference, whereas the relationship between medial and lateral sides showed significant differences in perceived stimulus. Difference of perceived intensity between medial and lateral sides implied that hardness of the skin surface may affect the perceived intensity rather than the distribution of mechanoreceptors on the palm. Overall, current results obtained in this study would contribute to the optimum design specifications for tactile interface devices.
