Korea have a rapid urbanization by economic growth after 1960. But, physical growth of city makes a ignorance of the quality of amenity increase. Recently, on that reason lots of studies and recognitions of street landscape problem was made, but there's lack of studying it as a view point of pedestrian who use and feel street actually. This study have the following method. One, Street landscape is divided into 2 parts. One is street inside landscape(type I) that pedestrians walk along and watch and the other is street across landscape(type II). Second, we choose business street area where most citizens work and live their most time. And we analyze psychology factor, components of the street landscape, attributes of the components and visual preference. This study provides fundamental information about street landscape estimate and management by "when pedestrian estimate street landscape, what kind of mental factor and street landscape components give an influence on street characteristic and viewpoint? and what kind of components give an influence on each of street landscape component".

Multimedia center at Kyung-Hee University is going to be opened in 1999. The purpose of this study is to extend the usability of outdoor space around the multimedia center. This study, therefore, presents the space, which gives a resting area, provide a beautiful sight, improve the accessibility of path, and give a theme.

The Suwon Campus of Kyunghee University was decided to rebuild a university gate to make new image of the university for a new millenium. The purpose of this study is to design a university gate not only for a gate but also for a commemorative environmental model which presents a spirit and idea of the Kyunghee University. The entire design of the gate has a renaissance style, the design of it's center has a triumphal arch form which cars can go through, and the design of it's side has a corridor form which pedestrians can walk. The gate is designed to present the spirit for human and world peace which Kyunghee University intends.
Gramella fulva sp. nov., isolated from a dry surface of tidal flat

A novel Gram-stain-negative, aerobic, motile by means of gliding, and short rod-shaped bacterium, designated strain SH35T, was isolated from the dry surface of a tidal flat in Hwasung-si, South Korea. Growth occurred at 10–40°C (optimum 30°C), at pH 6.0–8.0 (optimum pH 7.0), in 1–12% NaCl (optimum 2%), and was inhibited in the absence of NaCl and Ca2+ ions. Phylogenetic analysis based on the 16S rRNA gene sequences showed that strain SH35T belonged to the genus Gramella and was a member of the family Flavobacteriaceae with highest sequence similarity to Gramella flava JLT2011T (96.1%), followed by Gramella oceani CCAMSZ- TT (95.6%), and 93.0–94.9% to other recognized Gramella species. The major cellular fatty acids (> 5% of the total) of strain SH35T were iso-C15:0, Iso-C16:0, anteiso-C15:0, iso-C17:0 3-OH and summed feature 9 (C16:0 10-methyl and/or C17:1 iso ω9с). The major polar lipids were phosphatidylethanolamine, two unidentified aminolipids and nine unidentified polar lipids. The major respiratory quinone and the predominant polyamine were menaquinone-6 (MK-6) and symhomospermidine, respectively. The DNA G + C content was 40.5 mol% (39.7% based on total genome calculations). Based on phylogenetic analysis and physiological and biochemical characterization, strain SH35T represents a novel species of the genus Gramella, for which the name Gramella fulva sp. nov. is proposed. The type strain is SH35T (= KACC 19447T = JCM 32369T).
Safeguarding Industrial Workers in Summer: A Thermochromic Approach to Assessing Work Intensity

This research presents the possibility of analyzing the work intensity or effort of industrial workers during the summer using thermochromic pigments. In the summer season, elevated temperatures and heat waves, combined with intense physical exertion, can lead to illnesses and life-threatening conditions for industrial workers. Therefore, we propose implementing a safety management system using thermochromic dyes to facilitate visible measurements for supervisors. To accomplish this, we dyed clothing with thermochromic pigments and assessed factors such as the appropriate color and clarity through a survey.

Background: The purpose of this study was to determine the adequate loading and maintenance doses of N-acetylcyseteine (NAC) for patients suffering from acute ROS-induced injury. Methods: Concentrations of extra cellular NAC, cysteine (Cys), cystine (Cyst2), and methionine (Met) were measured in vitro, at which more than 50% of the intracellular ROS raised by paraquat were suppressed using Swiss 3T3 fibroblasts. An in vivo pharmacokinetic study followed on a healthy subject to determine the proper loading and maintenance doses of reduced NAC following intravenous administration of 25mg/kg NAC. Results: In vivo, NAC suppressed ROS in a dose dependant manner. 10mM of NAC suppressed about 50% of ROS, and was comparable to 10μM of Cys and Met and 400μM of Cys2. In vitro, the elimination of half life was achieved at 2.88±1.14 h for NAC and at 3.68±1.84 h for total NAC. The body clearances were 1.23±0.77 L h(-1) kg(-1) and 0.56±0.27 L h(-1) kg(-1) and the volumes of distribution were 3.07±0.10 L kg(-1) and 3.00±0.11 L kg(-1), respectively. The loading and maintenance NAC doses used to reach the target concentration of 10mM, were 5010mg. kg(-1) and 2250 mg min(-1) kg(-1), respectively Conclusion: NAC provides an antioxidant effect on ROS produced by paraquat in vivo. However, in vitro, our results showed that the intravenous NAC dose could not be estimated from NAC plasma concentration or its metabolites.

Objective : The objective of this study was to investigate changes in the posterior cranial fossa in patients with symptomatic Chiari malformation type I (CMI) compared to a control group. Methods : We retrospectively reviewed clinical and radiological data from 12 symptomatic patients with CMI and 24 healthy control subjects. The structures of the brain and skull base were investigated using magnetic resonance imaging. Results : The length of the clivus had significantly decreased in the CMI group than in the control group (p=0.000). The angle between the clivus and the McRae line (p<0.024), as the angle between the supraocciput and the McRae line (p<0.021), and the angle between the tentorium and a line connecting the internal occipital protuberance to the opisthion (p<0.009) were significantly larger in the CMI group than in the control group. The mean vertical length of the cerebellar hemisphere (p<0.003) and the mean length of the coronal and sagittal superoinferior aspects of the cerebellum (p<0.05) were longer in the CMI group than in the control group, while the mean length of the axial anteroposterior aspect of the cerebellum (p<0.001) was significantly shorter in the CMI group relative to control subjects. Conclusion : We elucidate the transformation of the posterior cranial fossa into the narrow funnel shape. The sufficient cephalocaudal extension of the craniectomy of the posterior cranial fossa has more decompression effect than other type extension of the craniectomy in CMI patients.

<P>Gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) is a strong predictor of postpartum prediabetes and transition to overt type 2 diabetes (T2DM). Although many reports indicate that low magnesium is correlated with deteriorated glucose tolerance, the association between postpartum serum magnesium level and the risk for T2DM in women with a history of GDM has not been evaluated. We analyzed postpartum serum magnesium levels and development of prediabetes and T2DM in women with prior GDM according to American Diabetes Association (ADA) criteria using the Korean National Diabetes Program (KNDP) GDM cohort. During a mean follow-up of 15.6±2.0 months after screening, 116 women were divided into three groups according to glucose tolerance status. Ultimately, eight patients (6.9%) were diagnosed with T2DM, 59 patients (50.9%) with prediabetes, and 49 patients (42.2%) with normal glucose tolerance (NGT) after follow-up. The T2DM group had the lowest serum magnesium level (0.65 [0.63-0.68] mM/L) in the postpartum period, but there was no significant difference between the prediabetes group (0.70 [0.65-0.70] mM/L) and the NGT group (0.70 [0.65-0.70] mM/L) (<I>P</I>=0.073) Multiple logistic regression analysis showed that postpartum HOMA-IR was a significant predictor of both prediabetes and T2DM. Moreover, we found that postpartum serum magnesium level was also a possible predictor for T2DM development. Serum magnesium level in the postpartum period may be a possible predictor for T2DM development in women with a history of GDM.</P>
