Impact of Updated 2016 ASE/EACVI VIS-À-VIS 2009 ASE Recommendation on the Prevalence of Diastolic Dysfunction and LV Filling Pressures in Patients with Preserved Ejection Fraction

        Sunil Kumar S,Nagaraj Desai,Oliver Joel Gona,Vinay Kumar K,Madhu B 한국심초음파학회 2021 Journal of Cardiovascular Imaging (J Cardiovasc Im Vol.29 No.1

BACKGROUND: Assessment of diastolic dysfunction (DD) and left ventricular filling pressures (LVFP) by echocardiography is complex in patients with preserved ejection fraction (EF). The American Society of Echocardiography and the European Association of Cardiovascular Imaging (ASE/EACVI) jointly published recommendations in 2016 to simplify the diagnosis and classification of DD and the assessment of LVFP. We aimed to study the impact of the updated 2016 ASE/EACVI guidelines vis-à-vis the 2009 ASE recommendations on prevalence of DD and LVFP in patients with preserved EF. METHODS: Five hundred patients referred to the echocardiography laboratory from March 2020 to May 2020 were analyzed. Patients with left ventricular ejection fraction (LVEF) < 50% were excluded. All patients underwent comprehensive transthoracic echocardiography. DD and LVFP were assessed by the 2016 ASE/EACVI and 2009 ASE recommendations. The concordance between the guidelines was analyzed by kappa coefficient and overall proportion of agreement. RESULTS: Mean age was 53 ± 13 years and 63.4% were men. Prevalence of DD and abnormal LVFP were significantly lower with the 2016 recommendations than with the 2009 recommendations (9.4% vs. 16.8%, p < 0.001 and 8.4% vs. 12.8%, p < 0.05). Patients with Grade 1 DD (100%) and Grade 2 DD (46.4%) were reclassified by the 2016 recommendations. Indeterminate diastolic function (9.8%) was strikingly high according to the 2016 recommendations. The concordance between the two recommendations was moderate (kappa = 0.569). The overall proportion of agreement was 85.4%. CONCLUSIONS: Prevalence of DD and abnormal LV filling pressures were lower with application of the 2016 ASE/EACVI recommendations in patients with preserved EF. There was moderate agreement between the 2009 and 2016 recommendations.

      • Initial experience with intra-articular 188Re-tin colloid as a “radiation synovectomy” agent in various joints

        Ajit S Shinto,Indira VU,Kamaleshwaran KK,Vinay Kumar Banka,Aswathy KK,Thirumalaisamy SG,Rajamani V,Madhav Mallia,Sharmila Banerjee 대한방사성의약품학회 2015 Journal of radiopharmaceuticals and molecular prob Vol.1 No.2

Radiation synovectomy has been proposed as a promising palliative therapy for recurrent joint effusions for the last two or three decades. Ionizing radiations emitted by intrarticularly administered radiolabelled colloids. The aim of this study was to assess the effectiveness of radiation synovectomy (RSV) using 188Re-tin colloid in the treatment of recurrent joint effusions and chronic synovitis of knee joints. Three phase bone scan was acquired for the concerned joint prior to radiosynovectomy. 188Re-tin colloid was prepared as per the reported protocol. 9 patients, diagnosed with rheumatoid arthritis and suffering from chronic resistant synovitis of the knee, ankle or elbow joints were administered the radiopharmaceuticals, checked for radiochemical purity >95% by intraarticular route. A whole body scan was acquired 2 h post-radiosynovectomy. In all the 9 treatments, no leakage to non-target organs was visible in the whole body scan. Static scans of the joint revealed complete retention of 188Re-tin colloid in the joints post administration of the agent. Clinically all patients exhibited a complete or partial response. RSV with 188Re-tin colloid was safe and effective in patients with chronic synovitis of rheumatoid origin. J Radiopharm Mol Probes 1(2):109-117, 2015

Luminescence investigations on LiAl_5O_8:Tb^3+ nanocrystalline phosphors

        Shreyas S. Pitale,Vinay Kumar,Indrajit Nagpure,O.M. Ntwaeaborwa,H.C. Swart 한국물리학회 2011 Current Applied Physics Vol.11 No.3

Tb^3+-doped porous LiAl_5O_8 nanophosphors were successfully synthesized using a single step combustion method. Structural characterization of the luminescent material was carried out with X-ray diffraction (XRD) analysis and high resolution transmission electron microscopy (HRTEM). Surface composition was estimated from X-ray photoelectron and Auger spectroscopic techniques. The average particle size was estimated as 37 ± 3 nm. Luminescence properties were studied by the photoluminescence spectroscopy. The phosphor showed intense luminescence in the green region due to the magnetic dipole transition of 5^D_4→7^F_5 of the Tb^3+ ion at 543 nm under 241 nm excitation. The intense 4f―4f transitions of Tb^3+outshine the luminescence from host which would otherwise deteriorate the color quality of the display device under operation.

Effect of Metallic Particles on E-field Enhancement in Extra High Voltage Gas-insulated Transmission Lines

        Rao, M. Mohana,Satyanarayana, S.,Kumar, S. Vinay,Jain, H.S. The Korean Institute of Electrical Engineers 2010 Journal of Electrical Engineering & Technology Vol.5 No.4

Gas-insulated transmission lines (GITL) are valued as technological solutions in hydro-power stations due to their enormous power handling capabilities. The performance of GITL is a function of the size of metallic particles inside the gas-insulated chamber. Electrostatic field (E-field) enhancement is a common phenomenon in gas-insulated lines due to these metallic particles. In this study, the E-field enhancement factor is calculated by considering metallic particles at various locations in the gas-insulated line/bus section, such as high-tension (HT) conductor, high-voltage shields, support insulator, and inner surface of grounded enclosure. For this purpose, a two-dimensional model based on finite element (FE) method is developed. The length of the metallic particle is in the range of 1 to 10 mm while the diameter is between 1 to 3 mm. E-field enhancement is also computed for various particle configurations of the gas-insulated system, with focus on dielectric coating made of epoxy on HT conductor and inner surface of grounded enclosure.

In Vivo Prophylactic Effects of Oleanolic Acid Isolated from Chloroform Extract of Flaveria trinervia against Ethanol Induced Liver Toxicity in Rats

        H. Joy Hoskeri,V. Krishna,B. Vinay Kumar,A. H. Shridar,K. Ramesh Babu,M. S. Sudarshana 대한약학회 2012 Archives of Pharmacal Research Vol.35 No.10

The prophylactic effects of oleanolic acid (OA) isolated from chloroform extract (CE) of Flaveria trinervia against ethanol induced liver toxicity was investigated using rats. CE and OA at three different doses were tested by administering orally to the ethanol treated animals during the last week of the 7 weeks study. Silymarin was used as the standard reference. The substantially elevated serum enzymatic levels of serum glutamate oxaloacetate transaminase, glutamate pyruvate transaminase, alkaline phosphatase and bilirubin in ethanol treated animals were restored towards normalcy by treatment of CE and OA. In vivo antioxidant and in vitro free radical scavenging activities were also positive for all the three concentrations of CE and OA. However, OA at 150 mg/kg showed significant activity when compared to the other two doses. Biochemical observations in support with histopathological examinations revealed that CE and OA possess hepatoprotective action against ethanol induced hepatotoxicity in rats.
