        The nationally-governed examinations for certification of allied health professions in Korea have been continued for thirty three years. During that time, there were a lot of managerial improvements in carrying out the examinations, for example, the looking-over the papers converted from manual method to computerized one. Nevertheless, the overall aspects of item management in the national examinations are still remained as obsolete style. In some developed countries they have already tried or adopted computerized system in making questions, executing item analysis, developing item banking, and in overall management of examinations, looking over papers for their national licensure examinations, and have established good reputations. Since the National Health Personnel Licensing Examination Board was established in 1998, now we can expect there would be a lots of improvements in the managerial systems and organizational structures associated with the national licensing examinations suggesting followings. 1. The contents and scope of the licensing examinations based on job analysis should be announced publicaly. 2. Items should be developed based on the scopes and contents of job characteristics. 3. All the developed items for the licensing examinations should be tested quantitatively prior to banking items. 4. All the parameters of the stored items should be fully estimated through item response theory. 5. All the efforts should be given in order to execute the examinations in individual residential areas on behalf of every examinee. 6. To the licensing examination system the Computerized Adaptive Testing system should be introduced in order to enhance the efficiencies. 7. Security enhancement on the stored items should be reminded in order to prevent leaking out the banking items. 8. Much more improvements should be made for the proper job evaluations. 9. Every efforts should be given to prevent cheatings encountable during the examinations. 10. Make the best of professional volunteers from the various fields in the execution of licensing examinations. 11. Consider a new system in that examinations can be executed twice or more in a year. 12. The current methods of presiding over the examinations should be replaced by a more reasonable one. 13. The results of the examinations should be announced as soon as possible in order not to prolong the examinees' unemployment periods. 14. The National Health Personnel Licensing Examination Board should try to rationalize the management keeping step with the information-oriented society.

        국산 발효유에서 분리한 유산균의 DNA 제한효소 분석에 관한 연구

        DNA restriction endonuclease analysis was performed to fingerprint the lactic acid bacteria isolated from domestic Fermented milk. The isolated lactic acid bacteria were nine strains of Streptococcus thermophilus, six strains of Lactobacillus acidophilus, and three strains of lnetobacillus bulgaricus. Four strains of S. thermophilus possessed more than two plasmids and two strains among them showed the same plasmid pattern. Other lactic acid bacteria did not contain plasmids. In die DNA restriction endonuclease analysis using HaeIII, two pairs of the S. thermophilus strains showed identical DNA fragment patterns, and a pair of the S. thermophilus strain showed similar DNA fragment patterns. All of L. acidophilos strains showed identical DNA fragment patterns. The DNA of the L. bulgaricus strains were extensively digested by Haul and the DNA fragments could not be detected clearly. This study suggested that DNA restriction endonuclease analysis could be used to fingerprint lactic acid bacteria.

        Combined delivery of dexamethasone and plasmid DNA in an animal model of LPS-induced acute lung injury

        Dexamethasone was conjugated to low molecular weight polyethylenimine (2kDa, PEI2k). Dexamethasone conjugated PEI2k (PEI2k-Dexa) was evaluated as a combined delivery carrier of dexamethasone and plasmid DNA (pDNA) in an animal model of lipopolysaccharide (LPS) induced acute lung injury (ALI). In vitro transfection of L2 lung epithelial cells, PEI2k-Dexa exhibited higher transfection efficiency than PEI2k or a simple mixture of PEI2k and dexamethasone. In addition, the PEI2k-Dexa/pβ-Luc complexes reduced the levels of pro-inflammatory cytokines in LPS activated Raw 264.7 macrophage cells. The anti-inflammatory effect of PEI2k-Dexa was higher than that of controls. The PEI2k-Dexa/pβ-Luc complexes were administered to mice via intratracheal injection. PEI2k-Dexa had higher pDNA delivery efficiency than PEI2k in the lung and decreased TNF-α and IL-6 in the lung homogenates and bronchoalveolar lavage (BAL) fluid compared with the controls. Furthermore, total protein and immunoglobulin M (IgM) concentrations in BAL fluid were reduced by the PEI2k-Dexa/pβ-Luc complexes. The intratracheal injection of the PEI2k-Dexa/pcDNA-EGFP complexes in the ALI model showed higher EGFP expression compared with PEI2k. Hematoxylin and eosin (H&E) staining showed that PEI2k-Dexa reduced inflammatory reaction in the lung. Therefore, PEI2k-Dexa may be useful for combination gene and drug therapy for ALI.

      • Protective effects of protein transduction domain-metallothionein fusion proteins against hypoxia- and oxidative stress-induced apoptosis in an ischemia/reperfusion rat model

        Ischemic heart diseases caused by insufficient oxygen supply to the cardiac muscle require pharmaceutical agents for the prevention of the progress and recurrence. Metallothionein (MT) has a potential as a protein therapeutic for the treatment of this disease due to its anti-oxidative effects under stressful conditions. In spite of its therapeutic potential, efficient delivery systems need to be developed to overcome limitations such as low transduction efficiency, instability and short half-life in the body. To enhance intra-cellular transduction efficiency, Tat sequence as a protein transduction domain (PTD) was fused with MT in a recombinant method. Anti-apoptotic and anti-oxidative effects of Tat-MT fusion protein were evaluated under hyperglycemia and hypoxia stress conditions in cultured H9c2 cells. Recovery of cardiac functions by anti-apoptotic and anti-fibrotic effects of Tat-MT was confirmed in an ischemia/reperfusion (I/R) rat myocardial infarction model. Tat-MT fusion protein effectively protected H9c2 cells under stressful conditions by reducing intracellular ROS production and inhibiting caspase-3 activation. Tat-MT fusion protein inhibited apoptosis, reduced fibrosis area and enhanced cardiac functions in I/R. Tat-MT fusion protein could be a promising therapeutic for the treatment of ischemic heart diseases.

      • 고등교육 개혁에 따른 보건계열 전문대학 내실화 방안에 관한 연구

        To reform for higher education, all and every our effort would be futile if the opinions of field educators could not be reflected in the execution of the reformative measures. Accordingly, policy-makers should listen to the field educators opinions or suggestions, and push forward policies adjusting their priorities, so that all the higher education institutions can develop their own capabilities under the information oriented society. In a way government has executed administrative measures as restrictive or regulative styles for the sake of convenience. For the new era of reformation and information oriented society, now the authors propose following suggestions suitable to higher education systems. 1. The core of the higher education institutions is teaching faculty. Much more considerations should be given to the professors so that they can fullfill their mission. 2. The ultimate factor in the development of higher education systems is teaching. For the effective teaching, the status of teaching faculty should be promoted accomodating professor's opinions fully in executing the relevant policies. 3. One of the main duties of the professors is research, therefore prerequisite to the respective research should be met satisfactorily. 4. For the evaluation of higher education institutions, the organization for evaluation and accreditaion committee should be made of representatives of academic societies who are thoroughly confirmed and examined by the relevant academic societies. 5. The weight values in the evaluation of higher education institutes are readjusted. 6. In the course of evaluation and accreditation of higher education institutes, the evaluation should be executed according to every specific segment The majority of committee should be composed of professors or professionals, whose qualification already got on their research performances and abilities from the relevant scholastic societies. 7. In the organization of the committee for evaluation and accreditation, the personnel engaged in the management of schools should be exempted and personnel from government agencies and other scholars from the relevant scientific societies should be included, instead. 8. The government should provide additional support to the schools that have been highly evaluated in the specialized education for their own. 9. A great deal of efforts should be given to the schools where curriculum are well adapted toward community oriented in environmental changes. 10. The government should encourage to ensure the autonomous atmosphere for researches in universities, and should make efficient use of their research products.

      • Comparative studies on steam gasification of ash-free coals and their original raw coals

        Catalytic gasification of raw coals at mild condition is not realized yet mainly due to deactivation of catalysts via their irreversible interaction with mineral matters in coal. As a means to achieve repeated use of catalysts, four different ash-free coals (AFCs) containing less than 0.2 wt% ash are produced in this work. Steam gasification of ash-free coals (AFCs) and their parent raw coals of various ranks ranging from lignite (Eco) to coking coal (Posco) is performed in a fixed bed reactor at 700-900 <SUP>o</SUP>C. Regardless of the rank of the parent raw coals, all the AFCs behave like a highly carbonized coal such that their gasification rate are similarly slow and they exhibit relatively low H<SUB>2</SUB>/CO ratio. The steam gasification and associated CO to CO<SUB>2</SUB> conversion of the AFCs are, however, significantly enhanced by K<SUB>2</SUB>CO<SUB>3</SUB>, resulting in the higher H<SUB>2</SUB>/CO and CO<SUB>2</SUB>/CO molar ratio.

      • Tunability of Structure and Magnetism in Heusler Mn<SUB>3-x</SUB>Co<SUB>x</SUB>Ga (0 ≤ x ≤ 1)

        Mn₃Ga has drawn interest in spintronics for potential applications due to large perpendicular magnetic anisotropy, high Curie temperature (~760 K), and low magnetization. Motivated by previous studies on tunability of magnetism through transition metal substitutions in Mn₃Ga, we investigate magnetic and structural properties of Mn₃Ga upon Co substitution using first-principles calculations. In the absence of Co, Mn₃Ga is in tetragonal phase. With Co, both tetragonal and cubic phases occur. x ≤ 0.5, tetragonal phase is preferred, while x > 0.5, cubic one is favored. Co magnetic moment in two phases exhibit different magnetic behaviors. In tetragonal phase, unlike other Co compounds, Co magnetic moment nearly vanishes. On the other hand, in cubic phase, it retains a usual moment at about 1 μB. Nearly vanishing Co magnetic moment in tetragonal structure is elucidated phenomenologically by the magnetic exchange coefficient, where coupling between Co and Mn is much smaller than cubic one. Furthermore, anomalous Hall conductivities (AHC) are investigated for x = 0, 0.5, and 1. The magnitude of AHC is about 100~500 S/cm, where the sign change occurs at 0.5 < x < 1.

      • MgO, MnO₂첨가에 따른 Ba_(0.7)Sr_(0.3)TiO₃ceramics의 미세구조와 유전 특성 변화

        (Ba,Sr)TiO₃ceramics에 MgO, MnO₂를 첨가하였을 때 나타나는 미세구조의 변화와 유전 특성변화를 관찰하였다. MgO 0.3 mol%부터 Mg 이온과 Ti이온의 치환이 일어나기 시작하여 0.7 mol%까지 계속 치환이 이루어지다가 그 이상에서는 더 이상의 치환이 이루어지지 않는 것을 XRD측정 결과 알 수 있었고, 치환에 으해 상전이 온도가 저온쪽으로 이동하였다. MgO는 (Ba,Sr)TiO₃의 grain 성장을 억제하는 inhibitor로 작용하고, MnO₂는 (Ba,Sr)TiO₃의 미세구조에는 거의 영향을 미치지 않는 것으로 나타났다. MgO를 첨가함에 따라 grain 의 이상성장이 억제되고 grain size의 uniformity가 증가하여 유전상수가 증가하는 경향을 나타내다가 MgO 0.7 mol% 이상에서는 grain의 성장이 너무 억제되어 유전상수가 감소하였다. MnO₂첨가에 따른 변하는, 0.03 mol%에서 유전상수가 크게 증가하고 그 이상에서는 융점이 낮은 MnO₂가 grain boundary 영역에 liquid phase로 존재하며 불순물의 역할을 하기 때문에 감소하는 경향을 나타내었다. The effects of MgO, MnO₂doping on the microstructures and dielectric properties of Ba_(0.7)Sr_(0.3)TiO₃ceramics were studied. From MgO 0.3 mol% to 0.7 mol% , replacement Ti ions by Mg ions happened, which confirmed by XRD. Decreasing of Curie temperature results from replacement of Ti ions by Mg ions. MgO acts as a inhibitor in (Ba,Sr)TiO₃and MnO₂does not affect on microstructures. We had maximum dielectric constant MgO 0.3 mol%, and dielectric constant decreased above MgO 0.70.3 mol% because grain growth reduced under 1 ㎛. MnO₂doped Ba_(0.7)Sr_(0.3)TiO₃exhibits maximum dielectric constand and minimum dielectric loss at MnO₂0.03 mol%, and dielectric loss at MnO₂0.03 mol% decreased as frequency increased.

        Selenium 공급원이 우유 내 체세포 및 Se 함량에 미치는 영향

        Selenium and vitamin E serve as classical anti-oxidants in the body and these two essential nutrients have mutual nutritional effects each other. Also selenium is necessary in growth, reproduction, and metabolism. The objectives of this research was to study the effect of different forms of dietary selenium on the transfer of selenium in milk. Twenty-seven dairy cows were allocated three treatments 9 dairy cows of each (3 replication x 3 cows). Cows given selenium per day were control, 5.00㎎; Na-selenite treatment, 15㎎ and Se-proteinate treatment, 15㎎. The addition of Se to the basal feed at 10㎎ per head per day did not significant increase in milk yield compared to the control and the persistancies of lactation of Na-selenite and Se-proteinate treatments were higher than those of control(p $lt; .05). Milk composition was not affected by addition of selenium during experimental period. Somatic cell counts of Na-selenite and Se-proteinate treatment was significantly lower than those of control(p$lt; .05), SCC was significantly (p$lt;.05) reduced to 33.0% and 36.4% by Na-selenite and Se-proteinate treatment respectively, compare with pretrial period. Selenium concentrations in milk of dairy cows were increased 1.7-1.9 times by addition of selenium(p $lt; .05), but did not different in milk selenium between two selenium sources. Selenium concentration in whole blood was increased in cows given Na-selenite and Se-proteinate (p$lt;.05), but there were no significant differences in selenium of the whole blood from two groups.

      • Ba0.7Sr0.3TiO3 세라믹스의 소결온도, 성형압력에 따른 격자 뒤틀림과 유전 특성과의 관계

        소결온도와 성형압력을 각각 조절하여 Ba0.7Sr0.3TiO3 세라믹스의 결정립의 크기를 조절한 후 이에 따른 격자 뒤틀림의 변화와 유전특성과의 관계를 조사하였다. 소결온도와 성형압력이 증가함에 따라 결정립의 크기는 모두 증가하였지만 격자 뒤틀림은 소결온도가 증가함에 따라 감소하는 반면 성형압력의 증가에 대한 영향으로 증가하였지만 성형압력을 변화시킨 시편은 격자 뒤틀림의 변화와 마찬가지로 큰 변화를 나타내지 않았다. 유전변화율(dielectric tunability)은 성형압력을 변화시킨 시편이 소결온도를 변화시킨 경우보다 더 크게 나타났다. Ba0.7Sr0.3TiO3 ceramics with various grain sizes were prepared to investigate the lattice distortion dependence of dielectric properties by controlling sintering temperature and pressing. The grain sizes of the samples are increased with increasing sintering temperature and pressing pressure. The dielectric constant is increased by increasing sintering temperature due to the decrease in lattice distortion while it is not much affected by controlling pressing pressure. The sample made by controlling pressing pressure have greater dielectric tunability than those made by controlling sintering temperature.
