        Genetic variation and phylogenetic relationships of the ectomycorrhizal Floccularia luteovirens on the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau

        Floccularia luteovirens, as an ectomycorrhizal fungus, is widely distributed in the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau. As an edible fungus, it is famous for its unique flavor. Former studies mainly focus on the chemical composition and genetic structure of this species. However, the phylogenetic relationship between genotypes remains unknown. In this study, the genetic variation and phylogenetic relationship between the genotypes of F. luteovirens in Qinghai-Tibet Plateau was estimated through the analysis on two protein-coding genes (rpb1 and ef-1α) from 398 individuals collected from 24 wild populations. The sample covered the entire range of this species during all the growth seasons from 2011 to 2015. 13 genotypes were detected and moderate genetic diversity was revealed. Based on the results of network analysis, the maximum likelihood (ML), maximum parsimony (MP), and Bayesian inference (BI) analyses, the genotypes H-1, H-4, H-6, H-8, H-10, and H-11 were grouped into one clade. Additionally, a relatively higher genotype diversity (average h value is 0.722) and unique genotypes in the northeast edge of Qinghai- Tibet plateau have been found, combined with the results of mismatch analysis and neutrality tests indicated that Southeast Qinghai-Tibet plateau was a refuge for F. luteovirens during the historical geological or climatic events (uplifting of the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau or Last Glacial Maximum). Furthermore, the present distribution of the species on the Qinghai-Tibet plateau has resulted from the recent population expansion. Our findings provide a foundation for the future study of the evolutionary history and the speciation of this species.

        Mechanical evaluation of polymer microneedles for transdermal drug delivery: In vitro and in vivo

        In this study, we reported two types of PMNs based on polylactic acid (PLA) and polyvinyl alcohol (PVA),respectively. Parafilm M film, porcine skin, and rats’ models were operated to evaluate the mechanicalproperties in vitro and in vivo to find optimal parameters for efficient insertion. Insertion depth was measuredusing Digital Force Gauge by changing insertion force and speed, respectively. Results showed thatincreasing the insertion force and speed used for PMNs application led to a significant increase in thedepth of insertion. A force of 18 N under a speed of 330 mm/min was the optimal condition for insertingPMNs array into ParafilmM film and porcine skin. In addition, PLA-MNs exhibited higher robustness andenhanced homogeneity in insertion depth compared with PVA-MNs, but PVA-MNs were able to reachmuch deeper insertion depth. Moreover, Sprague Dawley (SD) rat experiments confirmed the effectivenessof optimal insertion parameters for transdermal drug delivery. This study illustrated not only thedevelopment of novel PMNs but also the mechanical evaluation for the design of PMNs.

        중국 요족(瑤族) 복식 분석과 디자인 개발

        중국 소수민족인 요족의 복식은 오랜 역사에 걸쳐 형성된 문화의 다양한 특성을 독창적으로 나타내고 있다. 소수민족의 전통 문화가 현대화에 의해 사라지고 있는 상황에서 인류 문화의 원형인 민속 문화가 지닌 고유성을 현대 복식에 적용하여 되살리는 것은 의의가 있다. 요족 전통복식에 나타난 모티브와 색채 등은 현대 패션에 활용될 수 있으며 디자이너의 제품개발에 지역적 특성을 표현하는 주제로서 제공될 수 있다. 연구방법은 2010년 03월 18일부터 23일까지 운남성 민족촌과 곤명박물관을 중심으로 현지 조사를 진행하고 요족 관련 서적, 논문, 사이트를 중심으로 요족 복식에 관한 자료를 수집하였다. 요족복식의 특징을 복식 구조, 장식 요소, 색채, 문양으로 분석한 후 요족 복식 요소를 현대 디자인 개발에 적용하였다. 요족복식 요소를 반영한 현대 복식 디자인은 트랜드와 전통성을 결합하여 서구 중심의 조형성에 하나의 대안으로서 현대인의 취향에 감각적으로 받아들여질 수 있는 장식적인 특성을 가미한 작품을 제시하고자 하였다. The costume of the Yao minority in China has a long history and has attractive features which include a variety of cultural characteristics. Retaining cultural heritage is significant and so the attributes of the costume of the Yao minority are applied to contemporary fashion, in a situation where traditional values are disappearing with modernization. The characteristics of the costume and colorful decorations of the Yao minority inspired the development and production of modern outfits as design themes or motifs could express the local mindset. Material was collected by visiting an ethnic village in Yunnan province from March, 18 to 23 in 2010 and through literature research on the theme of costume of the Yao minority. The study first analyzed the basic structure and form of clothing, decoration methods of the head, waist, legs and accessories, colors, and patterns to understand the characteristics of the costume of the Yao minority, and then the extracted elements were applied to design development in three main subjects combined with recent trends. The designs which reflect the sensibility of the Yao minority through the mix of trendy and traditional factors is as an alternative to western-oriented appearance, which can satisfy contemporary tastes in fashion.

        Absorption of NO from simulated flue gas by using NaClO2/(NH4)2CO3 solutions in a stirred tank reactor

        Experiments were performed in a stirred tank reactor to study the absorption kinetics of NO into aqueous solutions of NaClO2/(NH4)2CO3 solutions. The absorption process is a fast pseudo-reaction, and the reaction was found to be second-order with respect to NO and first-order with respect to NaClO2, respectively. The frequency factor and the average activation energy of this reaction were 4.56×1011 m6/(mol2 s) and 33.01 kJ/mol respectively. The absorption rate of NO increased with increasing reaction temperature, but decreased with increasing (NH4)2CO3 solution.

        Mapping of QTLs controlling content of fatty acid composition in rapeseed (Brassica napus)

        The improvement of fatty acid composition is one of the major goals of breeding in rapeseed (Brassica napus). The aim of this study was to provide more information on the genetic determination of fatty acid composition by investigating quantitative trait loci (QTLs). The study was based on two-year of field trials (in 2006 and 2007) with a population of recombinant inbred lines (RILs), which originated from a cross between GH06 and P174. The level of erucic acid (C22:1) was significantly negatively correlated with those of palmitic acid (C16:0), oleic acid (C18:1), linoleic acid (C18:2), linolenic acid (C18:3), and eicosenoic acid (C20:1) in both years. A total of 40 QTLs for six fatty acids were detected and most of them were clustered on linkage groups N8, N9, and N13. These results suggested strongly that there were significant correlations between the levels of fatty acid components and would be useful for the future improvement of breeding programs focused on fatty acids in rapeseed.

        Cyclic Loading Test for Concrete-Filled U-Shaped Steel Beam to Concrete-Filled Steel Tube Column Connections

        Concrete-fi lled U-shaped steel (CFUS) beam and concrete-fi lled steel tube (CFST) column are recently developed because of the quick construction and economical saving. This paper aims to investigate the seismic performance of a composite connection system connecting CFUS beam to square CFST columns. In the joint system, the grooved cuts on the square tube allowed the U-shaped steel beam passing through the joint core completely, which developed a through beam connection. To verify the seismic behavior of the beam-column connection, three specimens designed according to the strong column-weak beam and strong joint-weak member seismic concept were tested under combined constant axial compression and cyclic loading. For the test parameters, the diff erent connection details and the axial load on the CFST column were considered. The test results showed that the specimens exhibited good load-carrying, deformation, and energy dissipation capacities. The maximum story drift ratio of all the three specimens was 5%, satisfying the minimum requirement of special moment frames. The primary failure mode of the specimens was local buckling of the webs and the fracture of the bottom fl anges of the CFUS beam near the column tube. In addition, the joint shear strength of the specimens was evaluated based on ASCE design guidelines.

        Study of Noise Reduction Based on Optimal Fan Outer Pressure Ratio and Thermodynamic Performance for Turbofan Engines at Conceptual Design Stage

        With the development of civil aero-engines, the noise emission is now an essential issue to be considered during engine design. In this study, the preliminary design for a model fan, which was used for the fan noise estimation, was carried out. The fans with different bypass ratios, different tip speed as well as different aspect ratio were designed and the rough dimensions of the fan were obtained. Based on the dimension and performance of the fan, the effect of fan bypass ratio, tip speed, rotor blade numbers, and rotor–stator spacing on noise generation was investigated. The results indicate that the fan noise can be reduced as high as 10 dB by the increase of bypass ratios, and fewer rotor blade numbers and larger rotor–stator spacing are proved to be benefit to the fan noise reduction as well. However, lower tip speed does not achieve the noise reduction as expected. This is because more rotor blades are added to maintain the constant fan pressure ratio for the fan with lower tip speed. The study demonstrates that trade-off study should be carried out when considering fan noise reduction during engine design.

        Tenascin-C Produced by Oxidized LDL-Stimulated Macrophages Increases Foam Cell Formation through Toll-like Receptor-4

        Atherosclerosis is a chronic inflammatory disease in which both innate and adaptive immunity are involved. Although there have been major advances in the involve-ment of toll-like receptor 4 (TLR4) and CD36 in the initiation and development of this disease, detailed mechanisms remain unknown. Here, we show that tenascin-C (TN-C) can stimulate foam cell formation and this can be inhibited by a TLR4-blocking antibody or CD36 gene silencing. Our results identify TN-C-TLR4 activation as a common molecular mechanism in oxLDL-stimulated foam cell formation and atherosclerosis. In addition, CD36 is the major scavenger receptor responsible for the TN-C-mediated foam cell formation. Taken together, we have identified that TN-C produced by oxLDL-stimulated macrophages increases foam cell formation through TLR4 and scavenger receptor CD36.

        Nanotwinned Microstructure Engineering of Electroplated Copper for Enhanced Anti-corrosion in Alkaline Medium

        Electroplated copper is a key electronic interconnect material in integrated circuits and printed circuits and inevitablyexposed to corrosive media in manufacturing processes. The present work reports, for the first time, that corrosion resistanceof electroplated copper in 4 wt% NaOH is enhanced via nanotwinned microstructure engineering. Nucleation and growthof oxide/hydroxide on nanotwinned copper are inhibited, attributed to existence of highly (111)-preferred grain orientationand high-density parallelly-aligned coherent twin boundaries at surface. This study unveils a novel anti-corrosion strategyof nantowinned microstructure engineering against alkaline etchant, and exhibits great application values in industrial electroplatingof copper, silver, or their alloys.
