        To access the effects of some drugs such as piperazine phosphare, azathioprine and allopurinol in the experimental pneumoconiosis, 263 rats weighted 240-320 gm was divided into the control and eight experimental groups. To each group, the turbid solution mixed free silica, talc and natural coal dust of 50 mg in 0.8 ml saline were instilled intratracheally. At the begining and 5th week of experiment, piperazine phosphate(8mg/week orally), aspirin(1.5mg/day intramuscularly), azathioprine(25mg/day orally) and allopurinol(1.5mg/day orally) were administered simultaneously, while the dust turbid solution was only given to the control group. For each group the change of body weight. dry right lung weight, cellularity including total cell, macrophage, lymphocyte and neurtrophil in bronchoalveolar lavage fluid, superoxide ion, hydroxyproline, leukotriene B₄, tumor necrotsis factor, prostaglandin E₂were examined, and observed the pathological chages in lung tissue. The results were as follow : 1. The larger amount of their instilled dust and the longer observation period, the severer pathological findings were found in the lung tissue of each experimental group. 2. The body and dry right lung wight was not significantly changed in the experimental groups compared with the control group. 3. The number of total cell in bronchoalveolar lavage fluid was markedly less in the experimental group than the control one, while no significant difference was found in the percent alveolar macrophages and lymphocytes in both groups. However, the percent of neutrophiles was usually lower than in the control group. 4. The amount of superoxide ion was frequently less in the experimental group compared with the control one. 5. The amount of hydroxyproline was significantly lower in the experimental group than in the control one. 6. The amount of leukotriene B₄was usually less in the drug administered group than in the control one. 7. The amount of tumor necrotic factor was also frequently lower in each experimental group than in the control one. 8. The amount of prostaglandin E₂was usually higher in each experimental group than in the control one.

        Background and Objectives: The etiology and pathogenesis of chronic rhinosinusitis (CRS) is multifactorial and the role of infectious agents in CRS is not clear. S. aureus is the most frequent cultured pathogen in CRS and it expresses toxin, SEA, SEB and TSST-l, with superantigen (SAG) activity. Recently an importnat role of these staphylococcal toxins in CRS with nasal polyposis (CRSwNP) has been suggested. CRSwNP is a severe chronic inflammation characterized by massive infiltration of lymphocytes and eosinophils in the sinonasal mucosa and nasal polyp. However, there has been no further studies evaluating the properties of infiltrating T lymphocytes in CRSwNP and the cytokine profiles in activated T-Iymphocyte relating with SAGs. The aims of this study was to know what kind of T lymphocytes infiltrates in nasal mucosa and polyp tissue of CRSwNP, to analyze the cytokine profiles in infiltrating T cells, and to determine whether infiltrating T lymphocytes are specific for SAGs. Patients and Methods: Ethmoid sinus mucosa and polyp tissue samples were collected from 13 patients with CRSwNP and control sinus mucosa were obtained from 10 patient without CRS. Tissue infiltrating cells and T cells were isolated from tissue samples and flow cytometry, enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay, reverse transcriptase-polymerase chain reaction, in vitro T lymphocyte stimulation with S. aureus toxin were performed. Results: The mean total CD3+ T cell count was significantly higher in the mucosa and polyp tissue of patients with CRSwNP compared with control mucosa. Most infiltrating T cells in mucosa and polyp tissue were activated type, expressing CD45RO. CD8+ T cells were significantly increased in mucosa and polyp tissue of patients with CRSwNP compared with CD4+ cells IFN-γ was highly expressed in infiltrating T cells in both mucosa and polyp tissue, whereas IL-10 was expressed a small amount and IL-4 was not expressed. IFN-γ levels were significantly higher than IL-4 and IL-10 when isolated T cells were stimulated with SAGs in vitro. Conclusion: CD8+ T-cytotoxic and IFN-γ producing Th1 cells could paly an important role in the CRSwNP if sinonasal chronic inflammation is induced by SAGs.

        통합심리치료의 인지분화훈련이 정신분열병 환자의 기초 인지기능에 미치는 영향

        연구목적 : 정신분열별 환자들을 대상으로 통합심리치료의 소프로그램인 인지분화훈련을 실시하여 실행기능, 개념형성능력, 언어능력 및 추론력에 대한 훈련이 보다 더 하위단계의 인지기능인 주의력, 기억력, 반응시간 등을 호전시킬 수 있는 지를 알아보고자 하였다. 연구방법 : DSM-IV상 정신분열병으로 진단된 24명의 입원환자를 무작위로 양분하여 한 군은 인지분화훈련군으로 다른 한 군은 대조군으로 나누었다. 훈련군은 4주동안 1주일에 3회(매회 60분간)로 총 12회의 통합심리치료의 인지분화훈련을 받았으며 대조군은 동일한 시간동안 정신건강교육을 받았다. 훈련전후에 훈련군과 대조군을 대상으로 개정판 Wechsler 기억검사로 주의집중력, 장·단기 기억력을 측정하였고 Vienna test system중 결정반응시간검사로 반응시간, 반응결정시간, 반응운동시간을 평가하였다. 연구결과 : 1) 주의집중력에서는 훈련군과 대조군사이에 집단간 효과, 집단내 효과 및 상호작용 효과가 없었다. 2) 단기기억력에서는 훈련군과 대조군사이에 집단내 효과는 있었으나(F(1,24)=10.46. p〈.05). 집단간 효과, 상호작용 효과는 없었다. 3) 장기기억력에서는 훈련군과 대조군사이에 집단내 효과는 있었으나(F(1,24)=15.09. p〈.05). 집단간 효과, 상호작용 효과는 없었다. 4) 반응시간에서는 상호작용 효과(F(1,24)=5.18, p〈.05)가 있었다. 5) 반응운동시간에서는 집단간 효과, 집단내 효과 및 상호작용 효과가 없었다. 6) 반응결정시간에서는 상호작용 효과(F(1.24)=6.00, p〈.05)가 있었다. 결 론 : 통합심리치료의 인지분화훈련은 정신분열병 환자에서 하위단계의 인지기능 중 반응시간(특히 반응결정시간)을 단축시키는 효과가 있었다. Objectives : The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of cognitive differentiation training of Integrated Psychological Therapy(a training program of executive function, concept formation, language, and abstraction) on micro-level cognitive function such as attention, memory and reaction time in patients time in patients with schizophrenia. Methods : Twenty-four inpatients diagnosed as schizophrenia using DSM-IV were randomly assigned to 2 groups. The training group went through a total of 12 sessions of cognitive differentiation training for 4 weeks. The control group received psychoeducation program during the same period. Wechsler Memory Scale-Revised and Decision-Reaction Timer of Vienna Test System were administered to all patients, both before and after the training program. Results : 1) In the attention and concentration scores of Wechsler Memory Scale-Revised, between group, within group and interaction effects of training were not significant. 2) In the short-term memory scores of Wechsler Memory Scale-Revised, within group effect of training was significant(F(1,24)=10.46, p〈0.05), but the between group and interaction effects did not reach significance. 3) In the long-term memory scores of Wechsler Memory Scale-Revised, within group effect of training was significant(F(1,24)=15.09, p〈0.05), but the between group and interaction effects did not reach significance. 4) In the reaction time scores of Decision-Reaction Timer, interaction effect of training was significant(F(1,24)=5.18, p〈0.05). 5) In the motor time scores of Decision-Reaction Timer, between group, within group and interaction effects of training were not significant. 6) In the decision time scores of Decision-Reaction Timer, interaction effect of training was significant(F(1,24)=6.00, p〈0.05). Conclusion : Our findings suggest that cognitive differentiation training of Integrated Psycho-logical Therapy is partly effective on improving micro-level cognitive functions such as reaction time(especially, decision time) in patents with schizophrenia.

        The purpose of this study was to analyze the housing mobility behavior according to the income change and to predict the probability of upward and downward movements. A binary logit model was used with the data which were obtained by the Korea Research Institute for Human Settlements in 1989. The sample size was 1620 households in Seoul. The results of this study were as follows; the upward movement probability in rental housing or in single housing was higher than that in owned housing or in apartment housing as household income increased.

        CT-26 선암을 접종한 마우스에서 Iodine-131-Iodomisonidazole 의 생체분포 및 종양저산소증의 영상화

        urpose: Misonidazole is a radiosensitizer that binds in hypoxic cells. The purpose of this study was to find out the feasibility of I-131-Iodomisonidazole (IMISO) for imaging of tumor hypoxia. Materials and Methods: Tosyl precursor was dissolved in acetonitrile and I-131-NaI was added to synthesize IMISO. Balb/c mice inoculated with CT-26 adenocarcinoma were injected with IMISO. Mice were sacrificed at 1,2,4,24 hr and % of injected dose per gram of tissue (%ID/g) was determined. For scintigraphy and MRI, mouse bearing CT-26 adenocarcinoma was administered with IMISO and imaging was performed 4 hr after. Then, mouse body was fixed and microtomized slice was placed on radiographic film for autoradiography. Results: %ID/g of tumor was 1.64 (1h), 0.98 (2h), 0.85 (4h) and 0.20 (24h), respectively. At 24h, %ID/g of tumor was higher than that of all other tissues except thyroid. Tumor to muscle ratio increased with time and tumor to blood ratio also increased with time and reached 1.53 at 24 hr. On autoradiogram, tumor was well visualized as an increased activity in central hypoxic area of the tumor which corresponds to the area of high signal intensity on T2-weighted MR image. On scintigraphy, tumor uptake was visualized. Conclusion: This results suggest that IMISO may have a potential for tumor hypoxia imaging in mouse model. However, further study is needed to improve it's localization in tumor tissue and to achieve acceptable images of tumor hypoxia.

        FPGA를 이용한 전파천문용 디지털 필터 설계에 관한 기본연구

        본 논문에서는 전파천문용으로 사용하기 위한 대칭형 디지털 필터 코어의 설계를 제안한다. 본 논문에서는 Xilinx사의 Virtex-4 SX55 모델의 FPGA칩을 기반으로 한국우주전파관측망(Korean VLBI Network; KVN)의 자료획득시스템에서 요구하는 FIR 필터 코어의 기능을 VHDL 코드로 설계하였다. 본 논문에서 설계한 디지털 필터는 디지털 필터계수를 공유하여 시스템의 효율을 증대시킨 대칭형 구조(Symmetric Structure)를 갖는다. 대칭구조의 디지털 필터(Symmetric FIR Filter Unit; SFFU)는 제한된 시스템 클록을 이용하여 데이터의 처리를 효과적으로 수행하기 위해 병렬처리 방법을 사용한다. 따라서 본 논문에서는 SFFU의 효율적인 설계를 위해 전체적인 IP core의 합성 및 실험에는 통합 합성 소프트웨어 ISE Foundation을 사용하였으며, GUI 환경이 뛰어난 core generator를 활용하였다. 설계한 디지털 필터 코어의 합성 결과, 최대 동작 주파수는 260MHz를 약간 상회하는 수준까지 달성하였으며, 슬라이스, LUT 등의 리소스 사용량은 40% 이하임을 확인하였다 또한 Mentor Graphics사의 Modelsim 6.la 버전을 이용하여 SFFU(Symmetric FIR Filter Unit)의 시뮬레이션을 수행한 결과, 오류 없이 작동하는 것을 확인하였다. SFFU의 기능을 확인하기 위하여 추가적으로 Matlab을 이용하여 의사 신호를 이용한 시뮬레이션을 수행하였다. 시뮬레이션과 설계한 디지털 FIR 필터의 비교실험결과에서 FIR 필터의 기능을 수행하고 있음을 확인할 수 있어 본 논문에서 FPGA와 VHDL을 이용하여 설계한 대칭구조의 디지털 FIR 필터의 유효성을 확인할 수 있었다. In this paper, we would like to propose the design of symmetric digital filter core in order to use in the radio astronomy. The function of FIR filter core would be designed by VHDL code required at the Data Acquisition System (DAS) of Korean VLBI Network (KVN) based on the FPGA chip of Vertex-4 SX55 model of Xilinx company. The designed digital filter has the symmetric structure to increase the effectiveness of system by sharing the digital filter coefficient. The SFFU(Symmetric FIR Filter Unit) use the parallel processing method to perform the data processing efficiently by using the constrained system clock. In this paper, therefore, for the effective design of SFFU, the Unified Synthesis software ISE Foundation and Core Generator which has excellent GUI environment were used to overall IP core synthesis and experiments. Through the synthesis results of digital filter core, we verified the resource usage is less than 40% such as Slice LUT and achieved the maximum operation frequency is more than 260MHz. We also confirmed the SFFU would be well operated without error according to the SFFU simulation result using the Modelsim 6.1a of Mentor Graphics Company. To verify the function of SFFU, we carried out the additional simulation experiments using the pseudo signal to the Matlab software. From the comparison experimental results of simulation and the designed digital FIR filter, we confirmed the FIR filter was well performed with filter's basic function. So we verified the effectiveness of the designed FIR digital filter with symmetric structure using FPGA and VHDL.

        Subcortical Ischemic Change as a Predictor of Driving Cessation in the Elderly

        Objective Motor, perceptual, and cognitive functions are known to affect driving competence. Subcortical ischemic changes on brain magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) can reflect reduction in cognitive and motor performance. However, few studies have reported the relationship between subcortical ischemic changes and driving competence of the elderly. Thus, the objective of this study was to investigate the association between subcortical ischemic changes on MRI and driving abilities of the elderly. Methods Participants (n=540) were drawn from a nationwide, multicenter, hospital-based, longitudinal cohort. Each participant underwent MRI scan and interview for driving capacity categorized into ‘now driving’ and ‘driving cessation (driven before, not driving now)’. Participants were divided into three groups (mild, n=389; moderate, n=116; and severe, n=35) depending on the degree of white matter hyperintensity (WMH) on MRI at baseline. Driving status was evaluated at follow-up. Statistical analyses were conducted using χ2 test, analysis of variance (ANOVA), structured equation model (SEM), and generalized estimating equation (GEE). Results In SEM, greater baseline degree of WMH was directly associated with driving cessation regardless of cognitive or motor dysfunction (β=-0.110, p<0.001). In GEE models after controlling for age, sex, education, cognitive, and motor dysfunction, more severe change in the degree of WMH was associated with faster change from ‘now driving’ state to ‘driving cessation’ state over time in the elderly (β=-0.508, p<0.001). Conclusion In both cross-sectional and longitudinal results, the degree of subcortical ischemic change on MRI might predict driving cessation in the elderly.

        Baseline Clinical and Biomarker Characteristics of Biobank Innovations for Chronic Cerebrovascular Disease With Alzheimer’s Disease Study: BICWALZS

        Objective We aimed to present the study design and baseline cross-sectional participant characteristics of biobank innovations for chronic cerebrovascular disease with Alzheimer’s disease study (BICWALZS) participants.Methods A total of 1,013 participants were enrolled in BICWALZS from October 2016 to December 2020. All participants underwent clinical assessments, basic blood tests, and standardized neuropsychological tests (n=1,013). We performed brain magnetic resonance imaging (MRI, n=817), brain amyloid positron emission tomography (PET, n=713), single nucleotide polymorphism microarray chip (K-Chip, n=949), locomotor activity assessment (actigraphy, n=200), and patient-derived dermal fibroblast sampling (n=175) on a subset of participants.Results The mean age was 72.8 years, and 658 (65.0%) were females. Based on clinical assessments, total of 168, 534, 211, 80, and 20 had subjective cognitive decline, mild cognitive impairment (MCI), Alzheimer’s dementia, vascular dementia, and other types of dementia or not otherwise specified, respectively. Based on neuroimaging biomarkers and cognition, 199, 159, 78, and 204 were cognitively normal (CN), Alzheimer’s disease (AD)-related cognitive impairment, vascular cognitive impairment, and not otherwise specified due to mixed pathology (NOS). Each group exhibited many differences in various clinical, neuropsychological, and neuroimaging results at baseline. Baseline characteristics of BICWALZS participants in the MCI, AD, and vascular dementia groups were generally acceptable and consistent with 26 worldwide dementia cohorts and another independent AD cohort in Korea.Conclusion The BICWALZS is a prospective and longitudinal study assessing various clinical and biomarker characteristics in older adults with cognitive complaints. Details of the recruitment process, methodology, and baseline assessment results are described in this paper.
