Synthetic Bacteria for Therapeutics
( Phuong N. Lam Vo ),( Hyang-mi Lee ),( Dokyun Na ) 한국미생물생명공학회(구 한국산업미생물학회) 2019 Journal of microbiology and biotechnology Vol.29 No.6
Synthetic biology builds programmed biological systems for a wide range of purposes such as improving human health, remedying the environment, and boosting the production of valuable chemical substances. In recent years, the rapid development of synthetic biology has enabled synthetic bacterium-based diagnoses and therapeutics superior to traditional methodologies by engaging bacterial sensing of and response to environmental signals inherent in these complex biological systems. Biosynthetic systems have opened a new avenue of disease diagnosis and treatment. In this review, we introduce designed synthetic bacterial systems acting as living therapeutics in the diagnosis and treatment of several diseases. We also discuss the safety and robustness of genetically modified synthetic bacteria inside the human body.
Mechanism of Skin Pigmentation
Lam Do Phuong Uyen,Dung Hoang Nguyen,김은기 한국생물공학회 2008 Biotechnology and Bioprocess Engineering Vol.13 No.4
Melanin is a pigment that plays an important role in providing coloration and protecting human skin from the harmful effects of UV light radiation. Human skin color is determined by the type and amount of melanins that are synthesized and deposited within the melanosomes. In addition, the transfer of these specialized membrane-bound organelles from melanocytes to surrounding keratinocytes also plays a role in dictating human skin color. In order to investigate the principle features of skin pigmentation, the origin, function, and production ability of melanin should be highly understood in terms of biological and pathophysiological aspects. Furthermore, a deep understanding of melanin synthesis will also contribute to cosmetics and drugs development. In this review, the processes of melanin biosynthesis, such as survival, proliferation, and differentiation of melanin cells, as well as the biological regulation of human pigmentation were described.
Depigmenting effect of Sterculia lynchnophera on B16F10 melanoma and C57BL/6 melan-a cells
Uyen Do Phuong Lam,김은기,호앙구엔,이향복,Bora Kim,Joo-Dong Lee,Jeong-Hyun Shin 한국화학공학회 2011 Korean Journal of Chemical Engineering Vol.28 No.4
To develop a novel skin depigmenting agent from natural sources, the inhibition of melanogenesis by the Chinese herb, Sterculia lynchnophera (SL), was evaluated. Treatment of B16F10 melanoma cells and melan-a cells with SL exhibited a 32.9% and 68.2% inhibition of melanin synthesis without cytotoxicity at a concentration of 200μg/ml, respectively. This herb possessed a high free radical scavenging activity with IC_50=11.02 μM. The methanol extract of SL slightly inhibited in vitro mushroom tyrosinase activity (23.4% at a concentration of 200 μg/ml) and had a significant inhibitory effect on cellular tyrosinase activivity (48.65% and 88.56% inhibition at the concentration 200μg/ml in B16F10 cells and C57BL/6 melan-a cells, respectively). From the western blotting results, SL inhibited the expression of tyrosinase and tyrosinase related protein 1 (TRP-1). Taken together, we suggest that SL may be a safe and effective depigmentation agent.
An Empirial Study on Vietnam’s Trade Faclilitation in the Digital Economy
Thanh Huong Vu(Thanh Huong Vu ),Thi Thuy Hanh Lam(Thi Thuy Hanh Lam ),Ha Phuong Nguyen(Ha Phuong Nguyen ) The International Academy of Global Business and T 2023 The International Academy of Global Business and T Vol.19 No.2
Purpose - Vietnam is among the fastest growing digital economies in the Southeast Asian region, and has made enormous efforts to adopt digital measures to facilitate trade. The paper aims to assess Vietnam’s performance of digital trade facilitation and estimate the impact of digital trade facilitation on Vietnam’s exports to the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN). Design/Methodology/Approach - Vietnam’s implementation of digital trade facilitation is assessed through a constructed framework based on two groups of indicators, including Information Availability and Formalities Automation extracted from the OECD Trade Facilitation database. Further, a gravity model was adopted to estimate the impact of digital trade facilitation on Vietnam’s exports. Findings - The results show that Vietnam performs a slightly better than the average level of ASEAN countries. However, Vietnam’s implementation of digital trade facilitation tends to be ỉmproving at a slower rate than other ASEAN countries’ implementations, as well as the country’s overall implementation of other trade facilitation. The paper is among leading studies to quantify the impact of digital trade facilitation on Vietnam’s exports to ASEAN countries, and finds that if Vietnam and ASEAN countries increase trade facilitation through Information Availability measures by 1%, Vietnam’s exports will increase more than proportionately by 1.29% and 1.01%, respectively. Meanwhile, the digitalization of trade formalities so far has had no effect on Vietnam’s exports to this region. Research Implications - Vietnam should place priority on enhancing automation in trade-related administrative procedures, especially in customs procedures. Furthermore, it should pay more attention to promote the electronic publication of trade-related information, enhance the transparency of government policymaking, and increase the quality of enquiry points.
Effect of precursors on Cu2S counter electrode on the quantum dot sensitized solar cell performance
Phuong Ho Nhat,Van Man Tran,Tung Ha Thanh,Jun H. K.,Van Thang Bui,Vinh Lam Quang 한국물리학회 2022 THE JOURNAL OF THE KOREAN PHYSICAL SOCIETY Vol.80 No.12
Counter electrode of Cu2S on fuorine-doped tin oxide glass, which was synthesized by chemical bath deposition method in a nitrogen-purged environment with varying precursors and temperatures, is used for quantum dot sensitized solar cell fabrication. The morphology, composition and crystalline structure of the Cu2S flm were characterized by scanning electron microscopy, energy dispersive X-ray and X-ray difraction analysis. Electrochemical properties of the Cu2S flm were measured by cyclic voltammetry measurement and the highest performance of JSC=18.2 mA/cm2 , VOC=0.57 V, FF=0.38 and η=3.94% were recorded in the cell fabricated by the mixture of CuSO4 and Na2S2O3 precursors (1.0/1.0 ratio). It is the result of the enhancement of electrocatalytic activity, charge transfer and collection, and excited electron lifetime.

Large volume production of plastic parts with micro-features
Yee-Cheong Lam,Phuong Quoc Mai Nguyen,Khoa Nhat Tran,Xing Chen 한국생산제조학회 2012 한국생산제조시스템학회 학술발표대회 논문집 Vol.2012 No.10
With miniaturization of products with more complex functions integrated, micro-parts have played an ever-increasingly important role in our daily life. This paper presents new developments in micro-injection molding and hot embossing, the two most viable processes for the production of micro-parts. Hot embossing can be used to create the necessary micro-structures not only on polymeric parts, but also on an aluminum alloy mold with controlled quality. A new mechanism of micro-forming, namely the plastic deformation of the polycrystalline AA 6061 grains near the material solidus temperature was reported. It was thus demonstrated that grain size is not the limiting factor on the minimum feature size that could be produced for a polycrystalline material. In the micro-injection molding technique, two main factors, namely melt compressibility and mold surface roughness, were studied. Melt compressibility can be neglected for simplicity in the simulation of macro-injection molding but should be considered in micro-injection mold-filling. Mold surface roughness also has effects on the flow in micro-cavity during the filling stage.
