      • An Empirial Study on Vietnam’s Trade Faclilitation in the Digital Economy

        Purpose - Vietnam is among the fastest growing digital economies in the Southeast Asian region, and has made enormous efforts to adopt digital measures to facilitate trade. The paper aims to assess Vietnam’s performance of digital trade facilitation and estimate the impact of digital trade facilitation on Vietnam’s exports to the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN). Design/Methodology/Approach - Vietnam’s implementation of digital trade facilitation is assessed through a constructed framework based on two groups of indicators, including Information Availability and Formalities Automation extracted from the OECD Trade Facilitation database. Further, a gravity model was adopted to estimate the impact of digital trade facilitation on Vietnam’s exports. Findings - The results show that Vietnam performs a slightly better than the average level of ASEAN countries. However, Vietnam’s implementation of digital trade facilitation tends to be ỉmproving at a slower rate than other ASEAN countries’ implementations, as well as the country’s overall implementation of other trade facilitation. The paper is among leading studies to quantify the impact of digital trade facilitation on Vietnam’s exports to ASEAN countries, and finds that if Vietnam and ASEAN countries increase trade facilitation through Information Availability measures by 1%, Vietnam’s exports will increase more than proportionately by 1.29% and 1.01%, respectively. Meanwhile, the digitalization of trade formalities so far has had no effect on Vietnam’s exports to this region. Research Implications - Vietnam should place priority on enhancing automation in trade-related administrative procedures, especially in customs procedures. Furthermore, it should pay more attention to promote the electronic publication of trade-related information, enhance the transparency of government policymaking, and increase the quality of enquiry points.

        한국에서의 베트남 문화관련 연구동향과 과제

        This study attempted to extract 138 research papers related to cultures out of the papers on Vietnam studied by Korean up to 2014 and to classify 55 papers of them into the living culture, the spiritual culture, cultural property and the Korean-wave culture and to investigate the stream and outcome of studies the Vietnamese culture conducted in Korea. First, this study classified the living cultured into clothing, food and shelter and made a thematical analysis of them. Then, the spiritual culture was analyzed by classifying it into faith, ritual and festival cultures. And an attempt was made to analyze the Korean-wave culture by dividing it into Korean studies, broadcasting contents, K-pop, fashion and joint production. Finally, it did not analyze and describe the character, the fable, modern and contemporary literature, national culture, woman and so on in relation to the papers related to cultures because of the limited space. But it presented the list on them as the appendix at its end as they are research papers giving an important suggestion in terms of studies on material for utilization. These will be examined in the follow-up study. Both Korea and Vietnam have historically had political and social relations with each other in terms of the World War, the experience of national division. And they currently have active trade exchange with each other. And the current situation is that they have a gradually deeper cultural exchange with each other in terms of international marriage and Korean waved. The cultural aspect is as important as political and economic factors in contemporary society. Cultural study dealing with the specificity of Vietnam, comparative study on the cultural common denominators between two countries and the extension of the cultural study on the extraction of universality from them will helpful to the Koreanological circles and the Korean industrial world.

        베트남 내 한식한류 조성을 위한 기초 연구

        2012년도는 한국과 베트남이 수교한지 20주년이 되는 해이며, 베트남 내에 활성화 되어 있는 드라마, 영화, 대중음악(K-pop), 온라인 게임 등의 한류훈풍이 계속 이어지고 있다. 이에 따라 필자는 한국과 베트남 양국에서 아직까지 미개척분야로 남아 있는 한식한류의 가능성을 진단해보고자 했다. 현재 극히 부분적이기는 하나 한국 정부기관을 중심으로 한식한류의 개념에 따른 몇몇 콘텐츠가 해외 홍보차원에서 연구되는 과정에 있기도 하다. 본문에서는 여러 사례들의 비교분석을 실시했다. 이러한 결과를 바탕으로 향후 한식한류의 베트남 내에서 활성화 가능성과 그 방안을 모색하기 위한 기초연구에 중점을 두었다. 이러한 연구의 근거를 제공하기 위해 우선 베트남에 관한 기본특성을 정리했다. 또 베트남인의 관념과 습관에 내재하는 음식문화, 음식의 특성을 살펴보고 외식습관과 외식시장조사를 실시했다. 이어서 한국 정부의 육성사업에 따른 한식 세계화의 가능성과 한식의 우수성을 문화?경제?영양학적 차원에서 도출해보고자 했다. 특히 음식을 소재로 한 드라마 〈대장금〉의 베트남 방영에 따른 반응을 양국의 역사?문화?지리적 배경에서 그 유사성에 관련지어 접점을 찾으려고 노력했다. 또한 기존에 개최된 각종 관련 행사 및 이벤트를 분석하고 향후 행사기획안을 제시해보고자 했다. 이러한 연구를 통해 베트남 내 한식한류콘텐츠의 활성화를 위한 기초 연구를 진행하는 것이 목표이다. 베트남 내 한식한류 활성화가 실질적으로 이루어지기 위해서는 무엇보다도 한국정부차원에서 국가이미지 제고를 위한 체계적인 기초연구와 방향제시가 우선되어야만한다. 또한 진행과정에서 현지에 진출한 한국 기업들과의 적극적인 협력관계를 유지하는 것이 중요하다. 이를 통해 베트남인에게 한식이 각광받는 외식으로 선택될 수 있도록 새로운 콘텐츠를 발전시켜나가는 것이 앞으로 풀어나가야 할 과제로 남는다. This paper is a basic research study on creating a so-called Hallyu, the Korean Wave, of Korean food in Vietnam. First of all, I will shed light on Korean dramas, movies, K-pop and online games which are already popular in Vietnam. My intention for doing this is to analyze the current status of Hallyu in general and diagnose the possibility of creating the Hallyu of Korean food, which remains uncharted territory yet both in Korea and Vietnam. Albeit small, the Korean government agencies have led research on the contents of Korean food as part of its overseas promotion of the Hallyu of Korean food. This paper compares and analyzes several relevant cases. The emphasis is on research regarding the possibility of making Korean food popular in Vietnam as part of the Hallyu in the future based on these results, and suggesting different ways to go about it. To provide the foundation for my research, I have specified some fundamental features about Vietnam. I have also looked into Vietnamese food culture and its characteristics, in addition to conducting research on the dining-out habit of Vietnamese people and the market. I have then attempted to find the possibility of globalization by focusing on the excellence of Korean food with the help of government projects from the cultural, economic and nutritional perspectives. In particular, I attempt to find the similarities between our two countries from the responses about Jewel in the Palace, a Korean drama about food, from the historical, cultural and geographical point of views. Also, I analyze the various promotion events which have been held in the past and present as well as future promotion event plans. My purpose of this paper is to conduct basic research on promoting the Korean Food Hallyu in Vietnam, through this analysis. To make Korean food popular in Vietnam as part of the Hallyu, systematic basic studies and the presentation of future directions to enhance the national image are needed on the governmental level. It is also essential to maintain a cooperative relationship with Korean companies doing business in Vietnam in the process. Developing new contents still remains as our future task for helping Korean food to become popular to Vietnamese as a foreign delicacy.

        Angular Dependence of Transverse-Type Hall Magnetoresistance with Non-saturated Magnetization

        Transverse-type magnetoresistances such as spin Hall magnetoresistance and orbital Hall magnetoresistance are phenomena where the resistance of a bilayer consisting of a ferromagnet (FM) and a non-magnetic metal (NM) changes due to the absorption and reflection of a spin current at the interface. However, accurately evaluating the transverse MRs through angular dependence experiments becomes non-reliable when the magnetization of the system is not fully saturated, often leading to underestimation. Here, we proposed a fitting method that utilizes the standard expression for the total energy of the magnetic system to extract the MR value more accurately. By applying this method to determine the MR amplitude in the Cr/Fe bilayer system, we demonstrate that the extracted MR values in non-saturated cases are in good agreement with that obtained when the magnetization is fully saturated. Our method could be applicable to obtain precise MR values for other systems with similar properties, which is also useful for their further investigations.

        <P>From the aerial parts of Glochidion eriocarpum, a new triterpene, glochieriol (1), three new triterpenoid saponins, glochieriosides C - E (2 - 4), together with four known triterpenes (glochidonol, glochidiol, lupeol, and 3-epi-lupeol) were isolated by using combined chromatographic separations. The structures of the new compounds were elucidated on the basis of spectroscopic data, including FTICR-MS, 1D and 2D NMR.</P>

      • Violation of Bans on Tobacco Advertising and Promotion at Points of Sale in Viet Nam: Trend from 2009 - 2015

        Comprehensive bans on tobacco advertising and promotion were introduced through tobacco control legislation in Viet Nam, but it has been established that violations of the bans are very common. This study was conducted to explore the trend in violations of bans on tobacco advertising and promotion at points of sale in Viet Nam in the past six years and to explore any differences in the violation situations before and after the Law on Tobacco Control came into effect on 1st May 2013. Quantitative data were collected through observation of violations of the bans on tobacco advertising and promotion at points of sale in 10 provinces throughout Viet Nam in four survey rounds (2009, 2010, 2011, and 2015). Variation in violation prevalence over time was examined by chi-square test using a Bonferini method. Binary logistic regression was employed to identify the factors that may have influences on different types of violation. A level of significance of p<0.05 was used for all tests in this article. The most common form of violation was the display of more than one pack/one carton of a cigarette brand. Violation of bans on tobacco advertising increased while violations on promotion ban and on displaying tobacco decreased through time. Some factors associated with the tobacco advertising and promotion bans included surveyed years, types of points of sale, regions and areas where the points of sale were located. The enforcement of the bans did not improve even after the issuance and the enactment of the Law on Tobacco Control. This suggests that the monitoring and enforcement of bans on tobacco advertising and promotion at points of sale should be strengthened. Penalties should be strictly applied for violators as indicated in the current tobacco control legislation.
