목적: The aim of the study was to examine the inflammatory status of follicular fluid in endometriosis by detecting High mobility group box-1 (HMGB-1) and inflammatory cytokines, which reflect the milieu of oocyte that may play a role for infertility. 방법: Total 60 patients who had received in vitro fertilization and embryo transfer (IVF-ET) from March, 2013 to March, 2016 were included: 30 patients who had endometriosis as case group, 30 participants without endometriosis as the control. Follicular fluid (FF) was obtained from a dominant follicle during oocyte retrieval and stored at -70°C. Level of HMGB-1 was measured with ELISA, as well as inflammatory cytokines including Interleukin (IL)-1β, IL-6, IL-8, and tumor-necrosis factor (TNF)-α. 결과: Level of HMGB-1 was significantly higher in FF samples from the endometriosis group compared to the controls. IL-6, IL-8, and TNF-α levels were significantly higher in the endometriosis group compared to those in the control. There were significant positive correlations among the four inflammatory cytokines. The levels of the inflammatory cytokines positively correlated with the levels of HMGB-1 in the FF samples. TNF-α levels were negatively correlated with the cumulative embryo score per embryo. Logistic regression analysis revealed that the number of high-quality embryos was an independent factor predicting clinical pregnancy. 결론: This study showed that HMGB-1 and inflammatory cytokines may play an important role through NF-kB pathway, in inflammatory cascade affecting oocyte milieu.

Objective To evaluate the efficacy and safety of 8 weeks of resistance circuit training in people with paraplegia due to spinal cord injury. Methods Participants were randomized into experimental and control groups. Although the intensity and sequence of movements of the exercise programs were identical in both groups, the resting time between sets was limited to 1 minute in the experimental group. In the control group, the participants were allowed to rest until they were comfortable. Both groups received 8 weeks of training twice per week. Before and after the program, muscle mass, body fat percentage, fat mass, blood pressure, heart rate, muscle strength and muscular endurance were evaluated, and 6-minute propulsion test was conducted. Additionally, the safety of the program was assessed. Results Twenty-two individuals with paraplegia were enrolled (11 in each group). After the training program, the experimental group showed a significant decrease in the resting blood pressure and improvement in the upper extremity muscle mass, strength, and endurance (p<0.05). Each variable showed significant inter-group differences (p<0.05). Furthermore, none of the participants showed autonomic adverse events, musculoskeletal side effects, or discomfort. Conclusion The results show that resistance circuit training programs with short resting intervals are superior to the usual resistance exercise programs in improving the blood pressure and physical strength and are safe for people with upper thoracic level injuries at T6 or higher.

Sarcopenia is defined as loss of muscle mass and strength due to aging. Recent studies show that sarcopenia may improve via the gut-muscle axis, suggesting that gut health may affect muscle phenotypes. In this study, we aimed to investigate the ability of Lactobacillus rhamnosus JY02 as a probiotic strain isolated from kimchi to alleviate sarcopenia. L. rhamnosus JY02-conditioned medium (CM) reduced dexamethasone (DEX)-induced myotube diameter atrophy and expression of muscle degradation markers (MuRF1 and atrogin-1) in C2C12 cells. The amelioration of sarcopenia was investigated by measuring body composition (lean mass), hand grip strength, myofibril size (using histological analysis), and mRNA and protein expression of muscle-related factors in a DEX-induced mouse model. The results of these analyses showed that L. rhamnosus JY02 supplementation promoted the production of muscle-enhancement markers (MHC Iβ, MHC IIα, and Myo-D) and reduced both the production of muscle degradation markers and the symptoms of muscle atrophy (loss of lean mass and muscle strength). We also found decreased levels of pro-inflammatory cytokines (IL-6, IFN- γ) and increased levels of anti-inflammatory cytokines (IL-10) in the serum of DEX+JY02-administered mice compared to those in DEX-treated mice. Overall, these results suggest that L. rhamnosus JY02 is a potent probiotic supplement that prevents sarcopenia by suppressing muscle atrophy.

Sarcopenia is a chronic disease characterized by the progressive loss of skeletal muscle mass in aged. Recent reports showed probiotics could affect the progression of muscle loss by modulating gut microbiome. Kimchi confers potential probiotics properties containing lactic acid bacteria (LAB). The objective of this study was to evaluate the probiotic properties of LAB isolated from Kimchi and investigate the effect of probiotics on preventing sarcopenia. A total of 255 strains of LAB were isolated from 12 types of Kimchi, and 53 strains were finally selected by resistance to artificial gastric juice, bile salts, and ability of attachment to human intestinal epithelial cells. C.elegans mutant (PD4251) expressing green fluorescent protein myo-3 localized in body wall and vulval muscle was adopted to evaluate the prevention from muscle loss. Four strains (LFR20-010, LFR20-030, LFR20-033, LFR20-040) fed worms showed the higher GFP expression than the standard bacterial source fed. RT-qPCR analysis showed that LFR20-030, LFR20-033 upregulated muscle-related genes in worms. Present study suggests that new Lactobacillus spp. separated from kimchi may delay the progress of sarcopenia.
