        Performance Analysis of an Adaptive Link Status Update Scheme Based on Link-Usage Statistics for QoS Routing

        In the global Internet, a constraint-based routing algorithm performs the function of selecting a routing path while satisfying some given constraints rather than selecting the shortest path based on physical topology. It is necessary for constraint-based routing to disseminate and update link state information. The triggering policy of link state updates significantly affects the volume of update traffic and the quality of services (QoS). In this letter, we propose an adaptive triggering policy based on link-usage statistics in order to reduce the volume of link state update traffic without deterioration of QoS. Also, we evaluate the performance of the proposed policy via simulations.

        Independence test of a continuous random variable and a discrete random variable

        In many cases, we are interested in identifying independence between variables. For continuous random variables, correlation coefficients are often used to describe the relationship between variables; however, correlation does not imply independence. For finite discrete random variables, we can use the Pearson chi-square test to find independency. For the mixed type of continuous and discrete random variables, we do not have a general type of independent test. In this study, we develop a independence test of a continuous random variable and a discrete random variable without assuming a specific distribution using kernel density estimation. We provide some statistical criteria to test independence under some special settings and apply the proposed independence test to Pima Indian diabetes data. Through simulations, we calculate false positive rates and true positive rates to compare the proposed test and Kolmogorov-Smirnov test.

        Ⅰ. 서론 1. 연구의 배경 및 목적 우리나라 성폭력·가정폭력 피해자 지원체계는 개선되었지만 다수 피해자인 여성에 특화되어 남성 피해자가 접근하기 어렵다. 이들에 대한 이해 부족 및 지원체계의 미비로 적절한 서비스가 제공되지 못하는 것이 현실이다. 본 연구에서는 남성 성폭력·가정폭력 피해자 관련 기존 통계자료 및 기사 검토, 가정폭력 실태조사 자료 분석, 남성 피해자 심층면접, 피해자 지원기관 종사자 면접 및 설문조사를 통해 남성폭력 피해자의 특성, 피해 경험 및 특성, 지원 욕구를 검토하고 남성 피해자 지원과 관련된 문제점을 분석하려고 한다. 자료 분석을 토대로 남성 폭력피해자를 위한 포괄적 지원체계 구축방안을 제시하려고 한다. 2. 연구방법 본 연구에서는 남성 폭력피해자 실태, 특성, 지원 관련 현황을 파악하기 위해서 다양한 연구방법을 활용하였다. 첫째, 기존 조사통계와 범죄통계 자료를 활용하여 남성 피해자 발생 규모를 파악하고, 언론보도 자료를 분석하여 남성 젠더폭력 피해의 양상을 검토하였다. 둘째, 2016년 전국 가정폭력 실태조사 자료를 분석하여 피해여부, 성별로 집단을 구분하여 피해발생 관련 사회적 변인을 살펴보고 남성 가정폭력 피해의 원인을 규명하려고 하였다. 셋째, 남성 가정폭력 피해자와 성폭력 피해자 각 2명을 대상으로 심층면접을 실시하였다. 넷째, 폭력피해자 지원기관 종사자 대상으로 심층면접을 실시하여 남성 피해자 지원과 관련된 현황과 문제점을 파악하였다. 다섯째, 피해자 지원기관 종사자 대상 설문조사를 실시하였다. 마지막으로, 국내 관련 연구가 부족한 상태에서 외국 연구가 남성폭력 피해에 대한 이해 및 개선방안을 제시하는데 참고자료로 활용되었다. 3. 연구의 범위 및 한계 본 연구의 목적은 남성 폭력피해자 지원 현황을 파악하고 정책과제를 제안하려는 것이다. 남성 폭력피해와 관련된 기존 자료는 범죄통계나 실태조사에서 제시된 남성 피해 규모에 대한 내용이 대부분이다. 관련 연구가 부족한 상태에서 정책개선 방안을 제시하는데 어려움이 많았다. 본 연구는 남성 폭력피해자 지원에 대한 초기 연구로, 자료 수집과 관련된 제한과 어려움으로 인해 전반적 현황을 파악하는 수준에 머물고 있다. 이러한 한계로 인하여 본 연구의 정책 제안에서는 남성피해자에 대한 인식 개선 및 지원체계 재정립과 같이 근본적인 이슈를 다루고 있다. 본 연구를 시작으로 해당 주제에 대한 후속연구가 축적되어 남성 피해자 지원에 큰 진전이 있기를 바란다. Ⅱ. 성폭력·가정폭력 남성피해자에 대한 기존 연구 1. 성폭력·가정폭력 남성피해자에 대한 기존 연구 가. 성폭력 남성피해자 2016년 전국 성폭력 실태조사 에 따르면 신체적 성폭력 피해를 당한 남성은 1.2%, 성희롱 피해는 0.8%로 나타났다(황정임 외, 2016:37). 2016년도 아동·청소년 대상 성범죄 동향분석 을 보면, 남자 아동·청소년 강제추행 피해는 전체 강제추행의 7.3%이고, 음란물 제작은 9.8%이다(송효진 외, 2016:34). 2004년 군대내 성폭력 실태조사 에 의하면 남성간 성폭력 직접 피해 경험 비율은 15.4%, 가해 경험 7.2%, 목격 경험 24.7%로 나타났다(권인숙 외, 2004:47). 2016년 군 성폭력에 대한 연구는 남군 역시 성폭력 피해 위험에 노출되어 있지만 지원 사각지대에 있음을 보여주고 있다(이미정 외, 2016:21). The support system for victims of sexual violence/domestic violence has been greatly improved in Korea, but because the system is specialized for the mostly female victims, accessing services is difficult for male victims. The reality is that there is insufficient understanding of male victims, and the support system is inadequate and cannot provide appropriate services. Therefore, in this research, we want to suggest measures to build a comprehensive support system for male victims. The content of this research is the following. First, we examine the existing research about victims of sexual violence/domestic violence from Korea and other countries. Second, we can grasp the scale of male victimization through existing research statistics and crime statistics, and we examine dimensions of male victimization by analyzing data from the mass media. Third, by analyzing the data collected through 2016 Nationwide Survey of Domestic Violence, we examined social variables related to occurrences of victimization and investigated causes of domestic violence against males. Fourth, we analyzed cases of sexual violence against males who were at least 19 years old through interviews with victims. Fifth, we analyzed in-depth interviews with professionals at domestic violence and sexual violence victim support agencies nationwide. Finally, we conducted a questionnaire survey of 197 professionals at victim support agencies to analyze their experiences of supporting male victims, their awareness about male victims, and the current status of support for victims. Based on the results of the analyses, we propose the following policy recommendations. The proposals are divided into greatly improving awareness about male victims, improving services for supporting male victims of violence, and improving the support system for male victims of violence. First, it is necessary to improve social awareness about male victims. Males can also be faced with sexual violence and domestic violence, and they can suffer as much as females because of their victimization, receiving injuries and suffering pain. In addition, when they are faced with victimization, they should be able to request help and support. Furthermore, a societal bond of sympathy should be formed about the point that male victims also have to be actively supported. This kind of content should be included in violence prevention education in elementary and secondary schools. Second, it is necessary to improve awareness of male victims. When comparing crime statistics with statistics from surveys, the rate of male victims is lower in crime statistics because there is a lower tendency for males to report to the police. The tendency of males to conceal their victimization by violence increases the possibility that they will be victimized again. The first step in solving the problem of violence against males is exposing the reality of the victimization. To this end, we have to acknowledge the possibility of violence against males and the time of the occurrence, and they have to be actively guided to request help. In addition, it is also necessary to actively publicize support services targeted at male victims.

        Solvent-assisted optical modulation of FRET-induced fluorescence for efficient conjugated polymer-based DNA detection

        <P>The solvent effects were studied in fluorescence resonance energy transfer (FRET) from a cationic polyfluorene copolymer (<B>FHQ</B>, <B>FPQ</B>) to a fluorescein (Fl)-labelled oligonucleotide (ssDNA-Fl). Upon addition of dimethyl sulfoxide (DMSO), the optical properties of polymers and the probe dye were substantially modified and the FRET-induced PL signal was enhanced 3.8–37 times, relative to that in phosphate buffer solution (PBS). The hydrophobic interaction between polymers and ssDNA-Fl is expected to decrease in the presence of DMSO, which induces the weaker polymer/ssDNA-Fl complexation with longer intermolecular donor–acceptor separation and perturbs the competition between the FRET and PL quenching processes such as photo-induced charge transfer. The gradual decrease in Fl PL quenching with increasing the DMSO content was investigated by measuring the Stern–Volmer quenching constants (3.3–4.2 × 10<SUP>6</SUP> M<SUP>−1</SUP> in PBS, 0.56–1.1 × 10<SUP>6</SUP> M<SUP>−1</SUP> in 80 vol% DMSO) and PL lifetime of the excited Fl* in polymer/ssDNA-Fl (600 ps in PBS and 2120 ps in 80 vol% DMSO for <B>FHQ</B>/ssDNA-Fl) in PBS/DMSO mixtures. The substantially reduced PL quenching would amplify the resulting FRET Fl signal. The signal amplification in real DNA detection was also demonstrated with fluorescein-labelled PNA (probe PNA) in the presence of a complementary target DNA and noncomplementary DNA in aqueous DMSO solutions.       • Tethered molecular redox capacitors for nanoconfinement-assisted electrochemical signal amplification

        <P>Nanostructured materials offer the potential to drive future developments and applications of electrochemical devices, but are underutilized because their nanoscale cavities can impose mass transfer limitations that constrain electrochemical signal generation. Here, we report a new signal-generating mechanism that employs a molecular redox capacitor to enable nanostructured electrodes to amplify electrochemical signals even without an enhanced reactant mass transfer. The surface-tethered molecular redox capacitor engages diffusible reactants and products in redox-cycling reactions with the electrode. Such redox-cycling reactions are facilitated by the nanostructure that increases the probabilities of both reactant-electrode and product-redox-capacitor encounters (<I>i.e.</I>, the nanoconfinement effect), resulting in substantial signal amplification. Using redox-capacitor-tethered Au nanopillar electrodes, we demonstrate improved sensitivity for measuring pyocyanin (bacterial metabolite). This study paves a new way of using nanostructured materials in electrochemical applications by engineering the reaction pathway within the nanoscale cavities of the materials.</P>
