Survival of Cancer Patients in Northeast China: Analysis of Sampled Cancers from Population-Based Cancer Registries

        Yanxia Li,Liya Yu,Jun Na,Shuang Li,Li Liu,Huijuan Mu,Xuanjuan Bi,Xiaoxia An,Xun Li,Wen Dong,Guowei Pan 대한암학회 2017 Cancer Research and Treatment Vol.49 No.4

Purpose The cancer survival was characterized by following up sampled subgroups of cancer cases from three population-based cancer registries in Northeast China. Materials and Methods Survival analysis was used to analyze 6,871 patients, who had one of the 21 most common cancers based on sampling from the population-based cancer registries of three cities in Liaoning Province. All patients were diagnosed between 2000 and 2002 and were followed up to the end of 2007 by active and passive methods. The 5-year age standardized relative survival rates (ASRS) were estimated for all cancers combined and each of the 21 individual cancers. Results The survival status was traced for 80.8% of 8,506 sampled cancer cases. The 5-year ASRS for all 21 cancers combined was 41.5% (95% confidence interval, 40.3 to 42.7), the highest ASRS was observed for thyroid cancer (85.2%), breast cancer (78.9%), uterine corpus cancer (75.9%), and urinary bladder cancer (70.2%); the lowest 5-year ASRS was noted in pancreatic cancer (8.8%), liver cancer (11.0%), esophageal cancer (18.8), and lung cancer (19.6%). The cancer survival rates in Liaoning cities were similar to those of urban areas in mainland China, but significantly lower than those in Hong Kong, Korea, and Japan. Conclusion The strikingly poor cancer survival rates in three cities of Liaoning Province and in other places in China highlight the need for urgent investment in cancer prevention, early detection, and standardized and centralized treatment.

Method for the Enhancement of Buildability and Bending Resistance of 3D Printable Tailing Mortar

Zhijian Li,Li Wang,Guowei Ma 한국콘크리트학회 2018 International Journal of Concrete Structures and M Vol.12 No.4

The innovative 3D printing has been successfully applied to layeredly build-up construction-scale structures through the extrusion of various cementitious materials. Favourable buildability of fresh cement mixture and the hardened properties of the printed structures are essential requirement for the application of 3D concrete printing. This paper firstly proposed a 3D printable cement mixture containing 40% mining tailings. The influence of paste age on the buildability of forty-layer structure was evaluated, as well as the bending resistance of prism specimen sawed from the printed structure. The bonding between layers is a critical factor that influences the structural capacity. In particular, the weak bonding interface formed in the layered extrusion process was identified through high-resolution X-ray CT scanning. It is necessary and desirable for the cement paste to perform both well buildability and mechanical performances. Thereafter, a proper amount of viscosity modify agent (VMA) was used to improve the structural integrity by increasing the contact behaviour between the adjacent extruded layers. Meanwhile, the impact of curing method on the hardened properties of 3D printed structures was accessed. Results indicated that the prepared tailing mortar achieved sufficient buildability to be used in an extrusion-typed 3D printer at the paste age of 45 min. The mould-cast specimens process flexural strength of 7.87 MPa. In contrast, the flexural strength of printed specimens values 5.22 MPa and 12.93 MPa, respectively, after the addition of 1.5% VMA and 90℃ steam curing.

      • RUNES II : A Distributed Rule Engine Based on Rete Network in Cloud Computing

Rui Zhou,Guowei Wang,Jinghan Wang,Jing Li 보안공학연구지원센터 2014 International Journal of Grid and Distributed Comp Vol.7 No.6

In recent years, cloud computing has drawn more and more attention. Increasingly amount of systems and applications have been constructed in cloud environments, yet few researches of rule engine has been done. Rule engine technologies have been widely used in the development of enterprise information systems. These rule-based systems may encounter the problem of low performance, when a large amount of fact data are matched with these rules. Deploying rule engines in cloud environments can increase the capability and efficiency of these systems. In this paper, we propose an approach to implement rule engine based on a message-passing concurrency model in cloud computing. The approach can be extended conveniently and it can deal with extensive rules and facts efficiently. To improve the performance of the rule engine, an algorithm of allocation is proposed. A resource cost model is explored to make high efficient use of resources in cloud. In addition, we implement the rule engine system RUNES II in cloud platform and conduct experiments to show its performance.

Toward better translation of clinical research evidence into rapid recommendations for traditional Chinese medicine interventions: A methodological framework

        Sun Xin,Luo Xiaochao,Li Ling,Ma Bin,Yao Minghong,Liu Jiali,Ge Long,Chen Xiaofan,Wu Xi,Deng Hongyong,Zhou Xu,Wen Zehuai,Li Guowei,Li Qianrui 한국한의학연구원 2022 Integrative Medicine Research Vol.11 No.3

Rapid recommendation is a novel methodological framework for developing clinical practice guidelines and this framework shares the basic features of classical guidelines but differs from classical clinical practice guidelines in its ‘rapid’ development process (typically within 90 days) with an aim of translat-ing practice-changing studies to recommendations. A recent global innovation of guideline development methodology is the proposal of a rapid recommendation framework for Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), which has the potential to add value to the translation of evidence to practice for TCM inter- ventions. Up to now, more than 180 rapid recommendations have been published, but none of them is pertaining to TCM interventions. Due to the nature of multi-dimensional evidence sources for TCM inter- ventions, including classical randomized controlled trials and real world evidence, a more sophisticated methodological approach to synthesize and evaluate the totality of evidence about effects of TCM in- terventions is required. Therefore, appropriate modification to the rapid recommendation framework is necessary. In the efforts to respond to these needs, we have proposed a specific approach to developing rapid recommendations for TCM interventions the Multi-dimensional Evidence Synthesis, Evaluation and Recommendations for TCM interventions (MESERT)

Dehydrogenation versus hydrogenolysis in the reaction of light alkanes over Ni-based catalysts

Guowei Wang,Shan Zhang,Xiaolin Zhu,Chunyi Li,Honghong Shan 한국공업화학회 2020 Journal of Industrial and Engineering Chemistry Vol.86 No.-

Given the high cost of Pt-based catalysts and the environmental issue of CrOx-based catalysts indehydrogenation processes, Ni-based catalysts have been extensively explored as alternatives. In order totake the advantage of the high activation ability of Ni towards alkanes, herein, the reaction behaviors oflight alkanes, primarily dehydrogenation versus hydrogenolysis, over Ni-based catalysts have beenreviewed and probed. Ni-based catalysts exhibit an extremely high hydrogenolysis activity for lightalkanes. Different from the single hydrogenolysis reaction on the surface of Pt, multiple hydrogenolysis ofalkane molecules occurs over Ni sites. The successive α-scission of C C bond over Ni sites results in thegeneration of abundant methane and coke. To selectively activate C H bond of alkanes and prohibit C Cbond rupture, one feasible approach is to introduce effective barriers to destroy the aggregated Niensembles active for hydrogenolysis. The promoting mechanism of different barriers (S, P, Cu, Sn, etc.) hasbeen summarized and analyzed. The geometric effect of introduced barriers facilitates the dispersion ofNi particles, and electronic effect reduces the desorption energy of olefins and avoids undesiredsecondary reactions. Among all these catalysts, NiS and NiSn-based catalysts demonstrate the mostoutstanding dehydrogenation performance and show great potential for industrial applications.

Control effect and mechanism investigation on the horizontal flow-isolating plate for PI shaped bridge decks’ VIV stability

        Ke Li,Guowei Qian,Yaojun Ge,Lin Zhao,Jin Di 한국풍공학회 2019 Wind and Structures, An International Journal (WAS Vol.28 No.2

Vortex-Induced-Vibration (VIV) is one kind of the wind-induced vibrations, which may occur in the construction and operation period of bridges. This phenomenon can bring negative effects to the traffic safety or can cause bridge fatigue damage and should be eliminated or controlled within safe amplitudes. In the current VIV studies, one available mitigation countermeasure, the horizontal flow-isolating plate, shows satisfactory performance particularly in PI shaped bridge deck type. Details of the wind tunnel test are firstly presented to give an overall description of this appendage and its control effect. Then, the computational-fluid-dynamics (CFD) method is introduced to investigate the control mechanism, using two-dimensional Large-Eddy-Simulation to reproduce the VIV process. The Reynolds number of the cases involved in this paper ranges from 1×〖10〗^5 to 3×〖10〗^5, using the width of bridge deck as reference length. A field-filter technique and detailed analysis on wall pressure are used to give an intuitive demonstration of the changes brought by the horizontal flow-isolating plate. Results show that this aerodynamic appendage is equally effective in suppressing vertical and torsional VIV, indicating inspiring application prospect in similar PI shaped bridge decks.

Gamma radiation shielding properties of WO3/Bi2O3/waterborne polyurethane composites

        Wu Zhengxin,Li Yong,Yan Qiang,Liu Guoqing,Liu Yong,Wang Guowei,He Liang 한국물리학회 2022 THE JOURNAL OF THE KOREAN PHYSICAL SOCIETY Vol.81 No.3

In this study, the gamma-ray shielding performance and the mechanical properties of waterborne polyurethane (WPU) composites embedded with tungsten trioxide (WO3) and bismuth trioxide (Bi2O3) were investigated. The results indicated that the shielding properties of the composites against gamma rays increased with WO3/Bi2O3 loading and that nanocomposites were better able to attenuate gamma rays than microcomposites. The mass ratio of WO3 and Bi2O3 in the composite played an important role in attenuating low-energy gamma rays. With the increment of Bi2O3 loading, the composite’s ability to attenuate 59.5 keV and 121.8 keV gamma rays improved, whereas higher WO3 contents enhanced the ability to attenuate 81 keV gamma ray. In terms of mechanical properties, with WO3/Bi2O3 loading increased, the tensile strength of composites frst increased and then decreased, and the elongation at break steadily decreased. Gamma irradiation also improved the mechanical properties of the WPU composites, as indicated by the increase in tensile strength as the irradiation dose increased from 50 to 200 kGy.

Three narrow band-gap semiconductors modified Z-scheme photocatalysts, Er3+:Y3Al5O12@NiGa2O4/(NiS, CoS2 or MoS2)/Bi2Sn2O7, for enhanced solar-light photocatalytic conversions of nitrite and sulfite

        Xue Ma,Chunquan Wang,Guowei Wang,Guanshu Li,Siyi Li,Jun Wang,Youtao Song 한국공업화학회 2018 Journal of Industrial and Engineering Chemistry Vol.66 No.-

Three Z-scheme photocatalysts, Er3+:Y3Al5O12@NiGa2O4/NiS/Bi2Sn2O7, Er3+:Y3Al5O12@NiGa2O4/CoS2/Bi2Sn2O7 and Er3+:Y3Al5O12@NiGa2O4/MoS2/Bi2Sn2O7, are designed for synchronous conversions of nitrite and sulfite and fabricated by sol-hydrothermal and calcination methods. In these Z-scheme photocatalysts, three narrow band-gap semiconductors as “conductive ladder” are inserted between Er3+:Y3Al5O12@NiGa2O4 and Bi2Sn2O7 to accelerate the electron transfer from conduction band of Bi2Sn2O7 to valence band of NiGa2O4. Er3+:Y3Al5O12 as an up-conversion luminescence agent (from visible-light to ultraviolet-light) provides enough ultraviolet-light for satisfying the energy demand of wide band-gap NiGa2O4. The prepared photocatalysts are characterized by UV–vis diffuse reflectance spectra (DRS), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), X-ray diffractometer (XRD), Fourier transform infrared (FT-IR) spectra and photoluminescence (PL) spectra. The photocatalytic activity of prepared photocatalysts is evaluated via conversions of nitrite and sulfite under simulated solar-light irradiation. The results show that the prepared Er3+:Y3Al5O12@NiGa2O4/NiS/Bi2Sn2O7, Er3+:Y3Al5O12@NiGa2O4/CoS2/Bi2Sn2O7 and Er3+:Y3Al5O12@NiGa2O4/MoS2/Bi2Sn2O7 composites exhibit the high and stable photocatalytic activity during the conversions of nitrite and sulfite. The highest conversion ratios (86.23% and 94.44%) for nitrite and sulfite can be obtained when the Er3+:Y3Al5O12@NiGa2O4/NiS/Bi2Sn2O7 is adopted as photocatalyst under simulated solar-light irradiation. Meanwhile, the effect of simulated solar-light irradiation time and corresponding reaction kinetics on photocatalytic conversions of nitrite and sulfite are also studied. Subsequently, the study of used times shows that the prepared Z-scheme photocatalysts can be effectively reused without an apparent inactivation on photocatalytic activity. These results demonstrate that the Er3+:Y3Al5O12@NiGa2O4/NiS/Bi2Sn2O7 is a potential Z-scheme photocatalyst to be used in actual conversions of nitrite and sulfite under solar-light irradiation.

Grem1 accelerates nucleus pulposus cell apoptosis and intervertebral disc degeneration by inhibiting TGF-β-mediated Smad2/3 phosphorylation

        Chen Shunlun,Lei Linchuan,Li Zemin,Chen Fan,Huang Yuming,Jiang Guowei,Guo Xingyu,Zhao Zhuoyang,Liu Hui,Wang Hua,Liu Caijun,Zheng Zhaomin,Wang Jianru 생화학분자생물학회 2022 Experimental and molecular medicine Vol.54 No.-

Intervertebral disc degeneration (IVDD) is a main cause of low back pain, and inflammatory factors play key roles in its pathogenesis. Gremlin-1 (Grem1) was reported to induce an inflammatory response in other fields. This study aimed to investigate the mechanisms of Grem1 in the degenerative process of intervertebral discs. Dysregulated genes were determined by analyzing microarray profiles. The expression of Grem1 in 17 human disc samples (male:female = 9:8) and rat models (n = 5 each group) was measured by western blotting (WB), real-time quantitative PCR (RT-qPCR), and immunohistochemistry (IHC). The regulatory effects of Grem1 on apoptosis were examined using siRNAs, flow cytometry, immunofluorescence (IF), and WB. The therapeutic effect was evaluated by locally injecting specific Grem1 siRNA into IVDD rats. The expression of Grem1 was significantly increased in human degenerative intervertebral discs; furthermore, the expression of Grem1 positively correlated with the level of intervertebral disc degeneration. Grem1 was significantly overexpressed in tumor necrosis factor (TNF)-α-induced degenerative NP cells. Apoptosis in degenerative NP cells transfected with siRNA targeting Grem1 was significantly lower than that in the control group. Specific Grem1 siRNA markedly repressed the development of IVDD in surgery-induced IVDD rats. These results indicated that the expression of Grem1 was positively correlated with the severity of intervertebral disc degeneration, and Grem1 siRNA could inhibit Grem1-induced apoptosis and extracellular matrix alterations by mediating the TGF-β/Smad signaling pathway. This study may provide a therapeutic strategy for alleviating inflammation-induced apoptosis associated with intervertebral disc degeneration.
