        Studies on N-Ethyl-N-nitrosourea Mutagenesis in BALB/c Mice

        N-ethyl-N-nitrosoures (ENU) is effective in inducing hypermorphic mutation as well as hypomorphic and antimorphic mutations. Therefore, this mutagen is used to the production of mutant in the mice. In order to perform an effective ENU mutagenesis using BALB/cAnN mice, determination of optimal dosage and dosage regimen of ENU is necessary. And this study tried to develop a suitable screening method and searched for novel and various mutants as model animals in phenotypedriven ENU mutagenesis. We have carried out dosage regimen for mutagenizing dose of 200 ㎎/㎏ ENU in the BALB/c mice. Total screened mice were 30,133. As the results of Esaki and Cho's Phenotype Screening, we got 2,516 phenotypic and behavior abnormalities in G₁, G₂and G₃mice. One hundred thirty five G₁phenodeviants were tested for inheritance and 16 dominant mutants were discovered. Forty two recessive mutants were also found in tested 201 micropedigrees. Early-onset mutant mice included the dysmorphology of face, eye, tail, limb, skin, and foot and abnormal behavior like circling, swimming, head tossing, stiff-walking, high cholesterol level, and tremor etc. In this study we could effectively screen G₃recessive mutants. The frequent and concise early-onset screening before weaning will be available for ENU mutagenesis.

      • 백서의 복강내에 투여한 Mitomycin-C-Polyglycolic acid 제형이 장기에 미치는 영향에 관한 연구

        To evaluate the in-vivo effects of mitomycin-C-polyglycolic acid composite(MMC-PGA) the disk: shaped composite were implanted into the peritoneal cavity of the Sprague-Dawley rats. The pathologic changes were examined at various time points up to 12 weeks. Initially the soft tissue around the inserted disks showed capillary congestion at 3 days. Inflammatory infiltrates with foreign body giant cells appeared from the 2nd week and reached peak response at 6-8 weeks. These reaction diminished prominently at 12 weeks. No specific pathologic change was found in the liver, the kidneys, and the heart. The above results suggest that the MMC-PGA composite can serve as a new device for intraperitoneal chemotherapy of various types of cancers.

      • 상 요추 추간판 탈출증의 수술적 치료

        Objectives : Lumbar disc herniations at the L1-L2, L2-L3, and L3-L4 level are rare. The purpose of this study is to observe the variable clinical finding of upper lumbar disc herniations and to provide proper treatment modality. Patients and Methods : Between 1998 Jan. and 1999 Dec., seventeen patients with upper lumbar disc herniations who were undergone surgery in our institute were retrospectively evaluated. Patients were evaluated based on following factors : age, sex, aggravating factor, symptoms and signs type of disc herniation, type of surgery, and outcome of post-surgery. Results : The incidence of lumbar disc herniation at the level of L1-2, L2-3 and L3-4 is 6.1% with declining frequency as the level ascends. The peak age incidence is 6th decade in both sex. Preoperative symptomes and signs are variabe. In sixteen cases, posterior approach was done. In these cases, twelve cases were performed microscopic partial hemilaminectomy, and four cases with spinal stenosis were performed total laminectomy and posterior screw fixation with bone fusion. In one case, lateral extracavitary approach was done. In results of operation, fourteen cases showed more than good grade(82%). Conclusion : The age incidence of lumbar disc herniations at the level of L1-2, L2-3 and L3-4 older than lumbar disc herniations at the lower level of L4-5 and L5-S1. The signs and symptoms are variable. In our cases, most of the patients were performed posterior approach with microscopic partial hemilaminectomy except the patients combined spinal stenosis. One case was performed a lateral extracavitary approach because the risk of the cord and cauda equina injuries. The prognosis of upper lumbar disc herniations after treatment with only microscopic partial hemilaminectomy and diskectomy is comparable with the prognosis of lumbar disc herniations at the lower level.

      • 大淸湖의 plankton 群集과 當營養化

        The phyto and Zooplankton communities were investigated in the Daechung reservoir lake. It is the general trends of water conditions and plankton flora conserned to become Mesetrophy and early stage of eutrophication. The apeared dominant species of plankton communities were, Crytomonas sp., Eudorina elegans, Microcystis aeruginosa, Anabaena macrospora, A. spiroides, Melosira granulata, M. granulata var. angustissima, M. islandica, M. italica, M. varians, Fragilaria crotonensis, Asterinella formosa, A. gracillima, and Scenedesmus bijuger most of which wre indicator of β-mesotrophy or α-mesotrophication. The reserver were caused by eutrophied at high rate netcage-type fishfarms within the lake basins, at the resently as other ones.

      • Cluster analysis 에 의한 昭陽湖의 水體 分布

        Cluster analysis was applied for the distinction of the water body in Soyang lake, which is the largest lake in Korea. For this analysis, the sixteen environmental parameters, such as water temperature, nutirent salts, organic materials, ets were used as the input data. The total data matrix was 16parameters X 47 points (in 14 sites). After Standardization, the Euclidean distances between two points were calculate. By the results, main stream of Soyang lake can be classified with 5 groups in March, 10 groups in February. And two shallow tributaries, showed different grouping pattern from main stream. In March, and November, the vertical mixing was detected, and in August, the water body above 10m was showed complex grouping pattern, and showed two water bodies in middle layer, and one in bottom layer.

        The research on the efficacy of rare ginsenosides in comparison to that of major ginsenosides has not been performed systematìcally and is insufficient, Therefore, with based on the literature survey, the efficacy of the rare ginsenosides, such as Rg6, Rg4, Rk3, and Rh4, is reviewed, and the direction for further research is presented. Sìnce ginsenosides Rg6, Rg4, Rk3, and Rh4 show very diverse and strong activities in various disease models, such as antioxidant activity, anticancer activity, immunity enhancing activity, antì-microbial activity, etc., it can be strong potential candidates as new materials derived from natural materials for pharmaceuticals, cosmetics. and food industry. However, most research is limited to the in-vitro efficacy. Therefore, to systematically investigate the in-vivo effìcacy of individual ginsenosides is required for the application of the ingredients. To do that, it is essential to establish standardized mass production and iso-lation method for individual rare ginsenosides

      • 소양호 동물성플랑크톤의 수직분포

        본 연구는 소양호의 동물성 플랑크톤의 군집조사를 파악하기 위해 플랑크톤의 수직분포를 알아보았다. 조사기간은 1986년 3월부터 9월까지 실시하였다. 본 호수의 동물성 플랑크톤은 담수 초기에 출현된 종이 그대로 장착되고 있으나 식물성 플랑크톤은 종 및 밀도가 증가햐였으며 이는 수여고한경의 변화를 시사해 주고 있다. 개체군 밀도가 가장 높은 시기는 5월과 6월로 ㎥당 개체수가 40,000개에 달하고 가장 적은 시기는 3, 4월로 약 5,000개 정도 였다. 동물성 플랑크톤의 수직분포에서 정체기와 순화기때 서로 다른 양상을 보이는 종들로는 Keratella cochlearis, Therrnocycolps

      • 황성 섬강 상류의 어류상

        Fish fauna was investigated from June to November 1993 at the upper Sum river in Hoengsong. Form of stream was Aa and Aa-Bb, and pH, DO and BOD were 7.3~7.9, 8. 8~10.2mg/1 and 1.3~l. 5mg/1. The collected fishes were classified twenty nine species belonging to twenty two genera and seven family , of witch twelve species were endemic species of Korea. Dominant species was Zacco temmincki and subdominant species was Coreoleuciscus splendus. Zacco platypus, Microphgsogobio longidorsalis and Acheilognathus signifer were also numerous. Scarce species were Hemibarbus labeo, Coditis lutheri and the like. The species diversity index, dominance index and evenness index were 2.552, 0.384 and 0.758.

        Zooplankton community was investigated in a small bog lake located in mountainous district of middle part of Korea. Four species of Cladocera were identified; Daphnia pulex, Daphnia ambigua, Sinocephalus serruiatus, erriodaphnia rigaudi. And two of them, Daphnia ambigua, Sinocephalus serrulatys, were unreported species in Korea. The zooplankton community composed of mixture of southern and northern species. The dual geature of southern and northern trait implys this community is biogeographically in transient status.
