This study was conducted to compare the community structure and biodiversity of ground-dwelling invertebrates between conventional and organic paddy fields’s levees. Ground-dwelling invertebrates were collected using a pitfall trap every month for two years (2010-2011) in levees of conventional and organic paddy fields. The numbers of species and individuals were higher in organic paddy field than in conventional paddy field. For the pests, the treatment of insecticide and herbicide reduced the number of Delphacidae, and Chrysomelidae, but did not affect the other pests such as Chronomidae, Culicidae, Thripidae, and Aphididae. For the natural enemies, the treatment reduced the number of individuals of most of enemy's taxon (except only one taxonomic group, Ichneumonidae) in the levee of conventional paddy field.
The purpose of this study was to investigate the possibility of using air potato (Dioscorea bulbifera) powder to makesponge cakes. The sponge cake batter was made by adding 0, 10, 20, 30, and 40% of air potato powder, and the resultantanti-oxidative properties and quality characteristics were analyzed. The study showed that the height, batter yield, and lossrate of sponge cakes decreased as increasing amounts of air potato powder were added, but the weight, viscosity, moisturecontent, and specific gravity increased. An evaluation of the color showed that the L and b values were highest in the controlgroup but the a value was highest in the 40% group. There was no significant difference between samples in terms ofcohesiveness, although the study showed a significant increase in the hardness, chewiness, and gumminess as the quantityof air potato powder in the sponge cakes increased. The total polyphenol content and DPPH radical scavenging activityincreased noticeably as more air potato powder was added to the sponge cakes. The results thus showed that the studygroups with the addition of air potato powder showed higher antioxidant activity than the control group.
To investigate the hemodynamics of intracranial circulatory arrest the authors correlated the findings of non invasive transcranial Doppler ultrasonography(TCD) with those of radioisotope angiography in 3 patients. The three stages of intracranial circulatory arrest was demonstrated by serial examination, and these findings were correspoanded with those of RI. angiography. The study shows that in progressing intracranial hypertension, arterial circulatory standstill within the cranial cavity develops in a distal-to-proximal direction. TCD findings of brain death were as follows abnormal flow waves. abnormally increcsed pulsatility index respiration dependent flow wave pattern.
