Seven Unrecorded Indigenous Fungi from Mudeungsan National Park in Korea

Fungi act as important decomposers in the forest environment. They recycle essential nutrients, promote plant growth through mycorrhizal relationships, and act as food for small animals. Samples of 265 indigenous fungal species were collected from Mudeungsan National Park in 2020. These species were identified based on morphological, molecular, and phylogenetic analyses using the internal transcribed spacer (ITS), nuclear large subunit rRNA (LSU), and RNA polymerase II second largest subunit (rpb2) regions. Subsequently, seven species were identified as unrecorded species in Korea: Cordyceps cicadae, Dentocorticium bicolor, Hymenochaete nanospora, Physisporinus crataegi, Rigidoporus piceicola, Russula raoultii, and Scutellinia crinita. This study reveals their detailed macro- and microscopic morphological characteristics with phylogenetic trees to report them as unrecorded species in Korea.
토양으로부터 Candida albicans의 균사형태에 선택적인 활성을 나타내는 미생물로부터 항진균 물질의 탐색

Candida albicans의 dimorphic 현상을 이용하여 C. albicans의 위상균사 형태에서만 항진균 활성을 나타내는 물질을 탐색하고 개발하기 위하여 토양으로부터 분리한 약 2,900여종의 미생물을 대상으로 항진균 활성을 조사하여, C. albicans의 위상균사 형태에서만 항진균 활성을 나타내는 한 균주를 선별하고 Streptomyces sp. A393으로 동정하였다. Streptomyces sp. A393 균주가 생산하는 화합물의 분리와 정제는 XAD-7, silica gel, preparative TLC 및 HPLC로 행하였으며 분자량은 774, 790, 804, 820이었다. 이 화합물은 macrolide 항생물질인 oligomycin A, B, C, E와 동일한 구조를 나타내었으나 항진균 활성을 나타내지 않는 것으로 보고된 oligomycine E는 위상균사 형태의 평판에서 항진균 활성(6∼25 ㎍/㎖)을 나타내었다. To search and develop the compounds exhibiting antifungal activities against the mycelial phase of Candida albicans, approximately 2,900 microorganisms isolated from soil were examined for antifungal activity. Among them, a strain with preferential activity against the mycelial phase of Candida albicans was isolated and identified as Streptomyces sp. A393. Isolation and purification of compounds A393 showing antifungal activity against the mycelial phase C. albicans were performed using XAD-7 column chromatography, silica gel chromatography, preparative thin layer silica gel chromatography, and HPLC. The molecular weights of compounds isolated from Streptomyces sp. A393 were determined as 774, 790, 804 and 820. These compounds appeared to have a structure of macrolide antibiotics, oligomycin A, B, C and E. Especially, oligomycin E. which is formerly reported to have no antifungal activity, showed antifungal activity against the mycelial phase of Candida albicans.

Teratoma is one of germ cell tumor, common neoplasm in women of reproductive age, but it can arise at any age. Its malignant transformation is rare, less than 2%, frequently at older age. Nearly all the cases are squamous, sarcomatous and adenomatous transformation. Here we present a case of mixed transformation, adeno-squamous cell carcinoma with brief review of the concerned literature.
