      • 腸機能에 關與하는 藥物의 作用에 對한 Verapamil의 影響

        In ileum strips, verapamil did not influence the contractile action, inhibited the spontaneous movement to acetylcholine, verapamil inhibited both actions to pilocarpine and serotonin, and the contractile action but did not affect the spontaneous movement to histamine. In longitudinal muscle of colon, verapamil inhibited the contractile action to acetylcholine of small doses, did not affect that to acetylcholine of high dose, markedly inhibited the contratile action to pilocarpine, histamine and serotonin. In circular muscle of colon, verapamil augmented the spontameous movement to acetylcholine, wherease the contractile actions to acetylcholine was suppressed by only high dose of verapamil, verapamil did not influence the contractile action to pilocarpine and serotonin, enhanced the spontaneous movement caused by pilocarpine of high dose, and by serotonin but inhibited both action to histamine and spontaneous movement to pilocarpine of small dose.

      • 烏梅(Mume Fructus)水性엑스의 家兎 腸運動에 미치는 影響

        Effect of .Mume Fructus on intestinal function was investigated in rabbit, making use of its water extract. Mume Fructus water extract(MWE), of small doses(0.1, 0.3㎎/ml) produced contractile action but did not effect the spontaneous movement strips of high dose(1.0㎎/ml) elicited relaxative action and the inhibition of spontaneous movement in ileum strips. In lieum strips, MWE did not influence the contractile action but augmented the spontaneous movement to acetylcholine, MWE elicited the inhibition of contractile action and the agumentation of spontaneous movement to pilocarpine, MWE inhibited the both actions to histamine, did not affect to serotonin and blocked to dopamine. MWE exhibited the relaxation and the inhibition of spontaneous movement in longitadinal muscle of colon. In longitudinal muscle of colon, MWE inhibited both actions to acetylcholine, did not influence the contractile actions but augmented the spontaneous movement to histamine and serotonin. MWE elicited the increase of contractile actions and the decrease of spontaneous movement in circular muscle of colon. In circular muscle of colon, MWE augmented both actions to acetylcholine, inhibited both actions to serotonin, and then did not affect the contractile action but augmented the spontaneous movement to histamine.

        In these competitve times, there is great pressure to improve customer service, and at the same time to find cost savings wherever possible. Many manufacturers use the private carrier, or the contracted transportation service, for the purpose of collecting and deilvering shipments for their facilities. Transportation is the largest component of logistics cost. Also, few researches have developed this field and they are fragmentary. The advanced in computer technology has resulted in the greatest impact on business since the industrial revolution. The transportation logistics is no exception to this pheomenon. Especially, Intelligent decision support system(IDSS), integrated expert system(ES) and decision support system(DSS), was significant technology in inventory parts. Therefore, this paper developed prototype IDSS for transportation logistics carrier selection. The focus is on the development of a simple, user-friendly tool that can be used effectively by managers to increase the cost-effectiveness of their transportation logestecs. The IDSS was constructed by using the tools of ART-IM expert system shell, CLIPPER, FORTRAN 77, and SLAMSYS simulation language.

        Dietary beet pulp decreases taurine status in dogs fed low protein diet

        Background: It is known that large dogs who are fed lamb and rice diets are at increased risk to develop taurine-deficiency-induced dilated cardiomyopathy. Since dogs obligatorily conjugate bile acids (BA) with taurine, we determined whether rice bran (RB) or other fibers (cellulose; CL, beet pulp; BP) would affect BA excretion and/or the taurine status of dogs. Results: Eighteen medium/large mixed-breed dogs were given purified diets containing CL, BP, or RB for 12 weeks. Taurine concentrations in plasma and whole blood were significantly decreased at week 12. The BP group, compared to the CL or RB groups, showed significantly lower taurine concentrations in plasma ($6.5{\pm}0.5$ vs $20.4{\pm}3.9$ and $13.1{\pm}2.0{\mu}mol/L$, respectively, P < 0.01, $mean{\pm}SEM$) and in whole blood ($79{\pm}10$ vs $143{\pm}14$ and $127{\pm}14{\mu}mol/L$, respectively, P < 0.01), lower apparent protein digestibility ($81.9{\pm}0.6$ vs $88.8{\pm}0.6$ and $88.1{\pm}1.2%$, respectively, P < 0.01), and higher BA excretions ($5.6{\pm}0.1$ vs $3.4{\pm}0.5$ and $3.4{\pm}0.4{\mu}mol/g$ feces, respectively, P < 0.05) at week 12. Conclusions: These results do not support the hypothesis that RB is likely to be a primary cause of lamb meal and rice diets, increasing the risk of taurine deficiency in large dogs. However these indicate that BP may contribute to a decrease taurine status in dogs by increasing excretion of fecal BA and decreasing protein digestibility, thus decreasing the bioavailability of sulfur amino acids, the precursors of taurine.

        황함유 아미노산의 간기능 보호 작용

        While it is known that sulfur containing amino acids (SCAA) are very important in regulating hepatocyte growth and preventing liver-diseases, the fundamental molecular mechanisms of how they exert their hepatoprotective functions are not well known. Since it is widely understood that the hepatic concentrations of S-adenosylmethionine (SAMe) in chronic liver disease patients are severely decreased, the pathophysiological importance of SAMe and its downstream antioxidant, glutathione should be discussed in order to see a big picture of relationship between SCAA and liver diseases. Chronic SAMe deficient mice have shown spontaneous hepatocellular carcinoma development due to impaired mitochondria functions with low levels of prohibitin1 protein, and through deficiency in many genes which are known to ameliorate genetic instability, such as APEX1 and DUSP1, the functions of which are recovered by SAMe treatment. In this review, current knowledge of the basic concepts of the mechanisms through which SCAAs protect the liver will be discussed in detail. Also, a possible tumor suppressor in livers, prohibitin1, and its functional relationship with SAMe will be discussed.

        Comparative Study of Lumbar Magnetic Resonance Imaging and Myelography in Young Soldiers with Herniated Lumbar Disc

        Objective : This study was undertaken to compare the diagnostic performances of magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), MR myelography (MRM) and myelography in young soldiers with a herniated lumbar disc (HLD). Methods : Sixty-five male soldiers with HLD comprised the study cohort. A visual analogue scale for low back pain (VAS-LBP), VAS for leg radiating pain (VAS-LP), and Oswestry disability index (ODI) were applied. Lumbar MR, MRM, and myelographic findings were checked and evaluated by four independent radiologists, respectively. Each radiologist was asked to score (1 to 5) the degree of disc protrusion and nerve root compression using modified grading systems devised by the North American Spine Society and Pfirrmann and the physical examination rules for conscription in the Republic of Korea. Correlated coefficients between clinical and radiological factors were calculated. Interpretational reproducibility between MRI and myelography by four bases were calculated and compared. Results : Mean patient age was $20.5{\pm}1.1$. Mean VAS-LBP and VAS-LP were $6.7{\pm}1.6$ and $7.4{\pm}1.7$, respectively. Mean ODI was $48.0{\pm}16.2%$. Mean MRI, MRM, and myelography scores were $3.3{\pm}0.9$, $3.5{\pm}1.0$, and $3.9{\pm}1.1$, respectively. All scores of diagnostic performances were significantly correlated (p < 0.05). However, none of these scores reflected the severity of patients' symptoms. There was no statistical difference of interpretational reproducibility between MRI and myelography. Conclusion : Although MRI and myelography are based on different principles, they produce similar interpretational reproducibility in young soldiers with a HLD. However, these modalities do not reflect the severity of symptoms.
