Bacterial Communities Developing during Composting Processes in Animal Manure Treatment Facilities
Yamamoto, Nozomi,Otawa, Kenichi,Nakai, Yutaka Asian Australasian Association of Animal Productio 2009 Animal Bioscience Vol.22 No.6
We analyzed succession of the bacterial communities during composting of animal manure in three individual facilities. Polymerase chain reaction (PCR) and denaturing gradient gel electrophoresis (DGGE) targeting for the bacterial 16S rRNA gene were used to clarify the changes of bacterial community throughout each composting process. Our study revealed that the bacterial community structures differed during the composting process. The bacterial community in composting of facility A showed little change throughout the process. In the compost sample from facility B, its community had a small shift as the temperature increased. In compost from facility C, the temperature dynamically changed; it was shown that various bacterial communities appeared and disappeared as follows: in the initial phase, the members of phylum Bacteroidetes dominated; in the thermophilic phase, some bacteria belonging to phylum Firmicutes increased; towards the end, the community structure consisted of three phyla, Bacteroidetes, Firmicutes, and Proteobacteria. This study provides some information about the bacterial community actually present in field-scale composting with animal manure.
Compensating Characteristics of Voltage Sag Compensator Utilizing Single-Phase Matrix Converter
Yamamoto, Kichiro,Ikeda, Keisuke,Iimori, Kenichi Journal of International Conference on Electrical 2013 Journal of international Conference on Electrical Vol.2 No.1
By using simulation, compensating characteristics of a voltage sag compensator utilizing single-phase matrix converter is examined. System configuration is described and mathematical model of single-phase matrix converter is derived by using the state space averaging method. In addition, the single-phase matrix converter is stabilized by phase-lead compensation. Finally, compensating characteristics of the compensator is investigated for 500 W R-L load and it is demonstrated that the compensator can operate correctly for loads for the range of power factor 0.6 (lagging) - 0.8 (leading) and for up to 50% voltage sag.

The reinforced-concrete multi-story shear-wall structure, which can free a building from beams and columns to allow the planning of a vast room, has increasingly been used in Japan as a high-rise reinforced-concrete structure. Since this structural system concentrates the seismic force onto multi-story shear walls inside, the bending deformation of the walls may cause excessive deformation on the upper floors during an earthquake. However, it is possible to control the bending deformation to within a certain level by setting high-strength and rigid beams (outriggers) at the top of the multi-story shear walls; these outriggers restrain the bending behavior of the walls. Moreover, it is possible to achieve high energy dissipation by placing vibration control devices on the outriggers and thus restrain the bending behavior. This paper outlines the earthquake response analysis of a high-rise residential tower to demonstrate the effectiveness of the outrigger frame incorporating vibration control devices.

A 7-year-old spayed female Welsh corgi presented with a mass of the skull. The mass was diagnosed asmultilobular bone tumor and surgically removed. To treat a large bone defect after the tumor removal, custom-madeartificial bone fabricated by a 3-dimensional ink-jet printer was implanted in the defect. Follow-up computed tomographyevaluation was performed for 4.3 years. The implant was well integrated with the skull and had covered the largebone defect during the follow-up period. Gradual degradation of the implant began 6 weeks after surgery. It providesan additional option for the treatment of large bone defect.

Background: Parkinson`s disease (PD) is increasingly recognized as multidimensional disorder. In addition to classic motor symptoms, patients have a variety of non-motor symptoms (NMS) that substantially affect quality of life (QoL). However, the prevalence of NMS and the relative impact of non-motor symptoms on QoL in PD have not been well documented in Japanese PD patients. In this study, we have the following objectives: 1) To determine the prevalence of NMS in Japanese PD patients. 2) To study the impact of NMS on the QoL in Japanese PD patients. Methods: This was a multi-center cross-sectional epidemiologic study. We recruited outpatients from seven Neurology departments at general hospitals across Japan between October 2010 and September 2011. A total of 824 Japanese PD patients was included in this study. NMS of patients was evaluated by Non-Motor Symptoms Scale (NMSS). Parkinson`s Disease Questionnaire-39 (PDQ-39) was used to evaluate the QoL of PD patients. Multivariate analyses were used to evaluate the direct impact of NMSs on QoL using PDQ-39, after adjusting for age, sex, disease duration, and the Unifi ed Parkinson`s Disease Rating Scale (UPDRS) Part I, Part II, Part III and Part IV. Results: The mean of total NMSS score was 37.4±35.4. The highly prevalent NMSS domains were sleep/fatigue (87.6%) and urinary (86.1%). The highly prevalent NMSS items were nocturia (72.0%) and constipation (71.6%). In multivariate analyses after adjustment for age, sex, disease duration, UPDRS Part I, Part II, Part III, and Part IV, total score of NMSS has statistical signifi cance with PDQ-39 (p=0.00, ß=0.16, Adj-R squared=0.65). Conclusions: NMS were highly prevalent in Japanese PD patients. NMS have a direct negative impact on QoL in Japanese PD patients.

KIT Student's Rocket has been developed by a student group of Kyushu Institute of Technology lor rocket launch campaign held at La Courtine in France since 2006. This paper introduces the newest design of rocket. The rocket has the body length of 2120㎜, and weighs 14.6㎏ and can reach to an altitude of about 700㎜ by a solid rocket motor provided by CNES (the French Centre National D’Etudes Spatiales). The rocket is controlling rolling attitude during ascent phase and then deploying a parafoil at the apogee of the trajectory for recovery guidance to an aiming point.

Objective: To clarify the frequency of deficient mismatch repair (dMMR) in Japanese ovarian cancer patients, we examined microsatellite instability (MSI) status and immunohistochemistry (IHC) subtypes, including endometrioid carcinoma (EMC), clear cell carcinoma (CCC), or a mixture of both (Mix). Methods: We registered 390 patients who were diagnosed with EMC/CCC/Mix between 2006 and 2015 and treated at seven participating facilities. For 339 patients confirmed eligible by the Central Pathological Review Board, MSI, IHC, and MutL homolog 1 methylation analyses were conducted. The tissues of patients with Lynch syndrome (LS)-related cancer histories, such as colorectal and endometrial cancer, were also investigated. Results: MSI-high (MSI-H) status was observed in 2/217 CCC (0.9%), 10/115 EMC (8.7%), and 1/4 Mix (25%). Additionally, loss of MMR protein expression (LoE-MMR) was observed in 5/219 (2.3%), 16/115 (14.0%), and 1/4 (25%) patients with CCC, EMC, and Mix, respectively. Both MSI-H and LoE-MMR were found significantly more often in EMC (p<0.001). The median (range) ages of patients with MMR expression and LoE-MMR were 54 (30–90) and 46 (22–76) (p=0.002), respectively. In the multivariate analysis, advanced stage and histological type were identified as prognostic factors. Conclusion: The dMMR rate for EMC/CCC was similar to that reported in Western countries. In Japan, it is assumed that the dMMR frequency is higher because of the increased proportion of CCC.
