        Antispasmodic Effects of Junsibaekchul-San In Vivo and In vitro

        In Vivo and In vitro antispasmodic effects of Jun-Si-Baek-Chul-San, a Traditional Korean Polyherbal Medicineconsisted of 7 types of herbs were observed in the present study. To clarify the effects of Jun-Si-Baek-Chul-San, on accelerating small intestinal movement induced by the stimulation of cholinergic neurotransmission, we evaluated the effects of Jun-Si-Baek-Chul-San on In vivo carbachol (an acetylcholinergic agent)-accelerated mice small intestinal transit and on In vitro contractions induced by low-frequency electrostimulation, KCl, histamine or acetylcholine using isolated guinea pig ileum. To induce the acceleration of mice small intestinal transit, Carbachol 1 mg/kg was once subcutaneously dosed 15min before last administration of the test drugs. In the present study, Jun-Si-Baek-Chul-San 500, 250 and 125 mg/kg or domperidone 20 mg/kg were orally pretreated on the carbachol-accelerated mice small intestinal transit once a day for 7 days and the small intestinal transit rateof activated charcoal powder were monitored. In vitro assays, Jun-Si-Baek-Chul-San1, 0.1, 0.01 and 0.001 mg/ml or domperidone $2{\times}10^{-5}M$ were treated 10min before ileal contraction was induced by filed stimulation, acetylcholine, KCl and histamine, and the % changes of contractions were observed compared to the treatment of inducer alone. In spontaneous contraction, the % changes of contractions were observed compared to treatment of vehicle alone at 10min after Jun-Si-Baek-Chul-San or domperidone treatment. The efficacy of Jun-Si-Baek-Chul-San was compared to those of domperidone. High concentration, 1 mg/ml of Jun-Si-Baek-Chul-San was found to decrease the spontaneous contraction of the isolated guinea-pig ileum. In addition, Jun-Si-Baek-Chul-San decrease contractions induced by electrostimulation, acetylcholine, histamine and KCl in the isolated guinea-pig ileum. In addition, Jun-Si-Baek-Chul-San effectively inhibited the accelerated small intestinal movement induced by carbachol stimulation of cholinergic neurotransmission in In vivo. Based on the results, although the exact molecular or action mechanism and which herbs or compound in Jun-Si-Baek-Chul-San are responsible for actions, it was concluded that Jun-Si-Baek-Chul-San normalization in the accelerated intestinal motility might be interfere with a variety of muscarinic, adrenergic and histaminic receptor activities or with the mobilization of calcium ions required for smooth muscle contraction non-specificly. Therefore, it is expected that Jun-Si-Baek-Chul-San will be promising as a prescription of clinical treatment of digestive tract disorders such as accelerated the motility of intestine, diarrhea or intestinal painful contractions.

        국민기초생활보장제도 평가 및 개선방안에 관한 연구 : 사회복지전담공무원의 태도조사결과를 중심으로

        정부는 공공부조제도로서 생활보호제도가 사회안전망(Social Safety Net)의 구실을 제대로 수행하지 못하는 점을 개선하기 위해서 국민기초생활보장법을 제정하여 2000년 10월부터 시행하고 있다. 기초보장제도의 도입초기의 문제점들로는 적정한 사업예산의 확보, 소득파악, 자산조사, 수급권자의 선별 및 심사, 자활급여 및 자활지원계획의 수행, 통합행정전산망의 활용, 사회복지전문요원의 수급계획 및 전달체계의 확립 등에 관한 것이다. 또한 제도적인 측면에서 기능의 결함과 행정적 미흡성 등이 지적되고 있다. 본 논문은 기초보장제도 시행 1년을 맞아 합리적으로 제도가 운영되고 있는지를 사회복지전담공 무원들의 기초보장법에 관한 의견, 정부행정, 선정기준, 선정방법, 급여수준, 제도의 효율성 및 합리성에 관한 개선방안 등에 대한 의견들을 분석하였다. 본 연구의 주요 결과들은 다음과 같다. 첫째, 수급권자의 선정을 위한 선정기준 및 선정방법에 있어서 체계적이며 합리적이고 적절한 방안을 모색해야한다. 둘째, 최저생활이 보장될 수 있도록 기초보장제도의 급여를 현실화해야 한다. 셋째, 급여의 정도를 타 사회보험과의 형평성을 도모해야 한다. 넷째, 기초보장제도의 성공적인 운영을 위해서는 사회복지전담공무원의 확충이 매우 절실하다. 다섯째, 기초보장법은 생활이 어려운 자에게 필요한 급여를 제공하여 이들에게 최저생활을 보장하고 자활(Self-Sufficiency)을 조성할 수 있도록 하며, 이를 위하여 자활사업 불이행자들에 대한 제재가 필요하다. 여섯째, 제도의 운영을 위한 지역사회기관들과의 연계 및 협력도 잘 이루어지고 있지 않는 것으로 나타났다 일곱째, 대다수의 응답자들이 기초보장제도가 지난 일년간 성공적으로 운영되었다고 평가하고 있다. 그러나 종합적 평가에 있어서 기초보장제도의 궁극적인 목적에 대해 상당히 미흡한 점이 지적되고 있다. 특히 기초보장제도는 생활이 어려운 자에게 필요한 급여를 제공하여 이들에게 최저생활을 보장하고 자활을 조성하며 궁극적으로는 빈곤의 장기화 및 세습화의 방지를 도모해야 된다고 응답하였다. 연구결과에 대한 개선방안들은 자산조사의 방법개선, 사각지대의 해소, 사회보험의 급여수준에 대한 형평성확보, 개별급여의 도입 등으로 지적되었다. 본 연구는 기초보장제도가 도입 된지 1년이 경과한 시점에서 제도운영에 대한 분석을 통하여 제도의 문제점, 성과 및 개선방안에 대하여 논의하였다. 끝으로 거시적인 차원에서 기초보장제도의 문제점, 개선방안 및 안정적 정착 등을 도모하기 위한 발전방안을 논의해 보았다. Korean government expanded the public assistance program by introducing "National Basic Livelihood Guarantees(NBLC)" in October 2000. Under the new policy, those falling under national poverty line are entitled to receive the difference between their incomes and the minimum cost of living regardless of their age or ability to work. During one year of implementation, there were some problems in NBLC, such as budgets, income and asset test, selection criteria, self-sufficiency benefit and plan, public welfare officers, and delivery services. And there were structural limitations and problems of administration in the NBLG. This study examined that public welfare officers' opinions about public administration, selection criteria and methods, benefits levels, effectiveness, and efficiency of the NBLG. The major findings of this study as following. first. the NBLG's selection process should be more systematic and resonable manner. Second, the NBLC's benefit levels should be higher than the present levels. Third, the government's departments should be more coordinated for implementing the NBLC. Fourth, public welfare officers should be more hired than the current levels. Fifth, the NBLC should be prevented poverty trap and supported self-supporting of the recipients. Sixth, special programs and assistances should be developed for working poor population. Seventh, community welfare organizations should be more cooperative for delivering the NBLC's self-sufficiency programs. Eighth, about 44% of the respondents were evaluated that implementation of the NBLC was success. The major policy development agenda were balance benefits levels between the NBLC and social insurances, and needs implementation of individualization of the NBLC's benefits. Finally, this study discussed that the major policy development of NBLG's effective administration, successful implementation, and few suggestions for future directions.

        Vasomotor Symptoms: More Than Temporary Menopausal Symptoms

        Vasomotor symptoms (VMS), such as hot flashes and night sweating, are classic menopausal symptoms experienced by a majority of perimenopausal and postmenopausal women. VMS have received a great deal of attention due to their relationship with cardiometabolic risk. Further, accumulating evidence indicates that VMS are associated with an increased risk of several chronic diseases, including metabolic syndrome, type 2 diabetes mellitus, nonalcoholic fatty liver diseases, and osteoporosis in perimenopausal and postmenopausal women. These findings suggest VMS as biomarkers of impaired cardiometabolic conditions rather than just temporary symptoms in menopausal women, warranting further studies to confirm the casual relationship of VMS with these diseases and the exact underlying mechanism in this context.

        Detection of Inter-Turn and Dynamic Eccentricity Faults Using Stator Current Frequency Pattern in IPM-Type BLDC Motors

        <P>This paper propose a fault detection algorithm for stator inter-turn faults (SITFs), dynamic eccentricity faults (DEFs), and hybrid faults (a combination of SITF and DEF) in a permanent magnet (PM) brushless dc motor. We analyzed specific frequency patterns of the stator input current to diagnosis and distinguish the fault types. First, we developed a two-dimensional (2-D) finite element method (FEM) program using a system matrix, and then we confirmed additional specific frequency patterns of the input current by a fast Fourier transform. Finally, specific frequency patterns for each fault type were verified by experimental results.</P>

        Assessment of Physical Habitat and the Fish Community in Korea Stream

        The purpose of this study is to provide essential data necessary to assess ecological flow requirements by understanding habitat conditions for fish species through monitoring an ecological environment in the Korea stream (Dal Stream) and building related database. On-site surveys were conducted for identifying ecological and habitat conditions at the four monitoring sites. Fish sampling was carried out at the selected four sites (St.) during the period ranging from September, 2008 to September, 2009. At the four sampling sites, we measured water surface elevation, depth and velocity at the cross-sections. Optimal Ecological Flowrates (OEFs) were estimated using the Habitat Suitability Index (HSI) established for four fish species Zacco koreanus (St.1), Pungtungia herzi (St.2), Coreoleuciscus splendidus (St.3), and Zacco platypus (St.4) selected as icon species using the Physical HABitat SIMulation system (PHABSIM). Eighteen species (56.3%) including Odontobutis interrupta, Coreoperca herzi and C. splendidus were found endemic out of the 32 species in eight families sampled during this study period. The endangered species was collected Acheilognathus signifier, Pseudopungtungia tenuicorpa and Gobiobotia macrocephala, and this relative abundance was 9.4%. The most frequently found one was Z. platypus (31.3%) followed by C. splendidus (17.6%) and Z. koreanus (15.7%). The estimated IBI values ranged from 27.3 to 34.3 with average being 30.3 out of 50, rendering the site ecologically poor to fair health conditions. For C. splendidus (St.3), the dominant fish species in the stream, the favored habitat conditions were estimated to be 0.3-0.5 m for water depth, 0.4-0.7 m/s for flow velocity and sand-cobbles for substrate size, respectively. An OEFs of 8.5 m3/s was recommended for the representative fish species at the St.3.

        Effect of Substitution of Chicken Breast for Alaska Pollack on Physico-chemical Characteristics and Quality in Surimi-like Materials Contained Different Cryoprotectants

        Surimi-like samples were divided into four groups (C, surimi-like material made from Alaska Pollack with all cryoprotectant ingredients; T1, surimi-like material made from chicken breast with sugar and a sorbitol-free cryoprotectant; T2, surimi-like material made from chicken breast with a sugar-free cryoprotectant; T3, surimi-like material made from chicken breast with all cryoprotectant ingredients). Water and protein content were lower in Alaska Pollack surimi-like material (C) than those in chicken breast surimi-like material. Centrifuge loss and cooking loss were higher in C than those in chicken breast surimi-like material. Lipid oxidation (thiobarbituric acid reactive substances) was lower in T3 than others during storage. In a sensory evaluation, overall acceptability was significantly higher in C than those in other samples during storage. As a result, we found that the raw material composition (Alaska Pollack or chicken breast) had a large influence on the physico-chemical characteristics and quality of surimi-like materials, whereas cryoprotectant composition may have less influence on the physico-chemical characteristics and quality of surimi-like materials.
