        Microstructure and Hydrogen Absorption Properties of a BCC Phase Accompanied Laves Alloy

        A non-stoichiometry Zr0.7Ti0.4V1.5Cr0.4alloy has been synthesized by arc melting following annealing treatment or meltspinningto obtain the bulk and ribbon samples, respectively. XRD investigation reveals the multiphase structure consistingof C15-Laves, V-BCC and a small amount of α-Zr or Zr3V3O. The alloy shows easy activation and fast hydrogenationkinetics. The annealed alloy absorbs 2.51 wt% H at room temperature, higher than the melt-spun ribbons. Refined grains bymelt-spinning accelerates the hydrogenation of bulk alloy. The absorption behavior in presence of 1 mol% air has been testedto evaluate the anti-poisoning ability. Pressure–composition–temperature characteristics and thermodynamics parametersindicate the low equilibrium pressure and high hydrides stability. Hydrides investigation reveals that the Laves phase dominantmultiphase structure contributes to the enhanced hydrogen capacity and multi-stage hydrogen release in DSC curve.

        High-efficiency removal of phenol and coking wastewater via photocatalysis-Fenton synergy over a Fe-g-C3N4 graphene hydrogel 3D structure

        To achieve rapid separation of electron-hole pairs and improve photocatalytic degradation activity, theFe-g-C3N4 reduced graphene hydrogel (rGH/Fe-g-C3N4) with a 3D network structure was fabricated viathe hydrothermal method. Using visible light irradiation, H2O2 was added to form a photocatalysis-Fenton synergy system. The results showed that the synergistic degradation rate constant of 10% rGH/Feg-C3N4 was 52% higher than that of the multiphase Fenton reaction and 1.5 times higher than that of theFe-g-C3N4. In the seventh cycle, the catalytic efficiency was still as high as 86.9%. Based on the optimizedconditions from phenol degradation, the system was further applied to coking wastewater treatment,and the degradation efficiency of TOC and COD in 60 min reached 66.3% and 68.1%, respectively. Such highand stable degradation performance was ascribed to the synergy effect of photocatalysis and Fenton. Because of the photogenerated electrons not only can promote the Fe3+/Fe2+ cycle, accelerate thedecomposition of H2O2, but also can quickly transfer to graphene and directly decompose H2O2 to formOH. Thus, a large amount ofOH were generated through the two different channels, which greatlyimprove the degradation efficiency. Furthermore, rGH/Fe-g-C3N4 can be regenerated usingfilters withoutthe need for additional complicated processing. This work provides an effective strategy for the deeptreatment of industrial wastewater.

        Identification and characterization of microRNAs involved in double-color formation in Paeonia suffruticosa ‘Shima Nishiki’ by high-throughput sequencing

        Paeonia suffruticosa ‘Shima Nishiki’ is a valuable double-color cultivar, but the mechanism of its double-color formationis still unknown at the post-translational level. Moreover, many studies have shown that microRNAs (miRNAs) play a keyrole in regulating anthocyanin biosynthesis. In this study, small RNA sequencing was performed to identify and characterizemiRNAs in six libraries of the red (LH) and pink (LF) petals. A total of 591 conserved and 53 novel miRNAs wereidentified, among which 68 conserved and 2 novel miRNAs were differentially expressed between the LH and LF libraries. Meanwhile, the corresponding target genes for these differentially expressed miRNAs (DEMs) were successfully predictedand annotated. Among them, two DEMs (miR858 and miR156a-5p) and their corresponding target genes possibly relatedto anthocyanin biosynthesis were screened. We further confirmed the relative expression of 15 candidate miRNAs (2 DEMsand other 13 miRNAs) and the 4 corresponding target genes of these DEMs by quantitative real-time PCR (qRT-PCR). Among these four target genes, only CL2846.Contig2_All [Annotation: transcription factor MYB12] showed a substantiallyhigher differential expression between the red and pink petals. Based on the above results, we concluded that miR858 andmiR156a-5p (especially miR858) are possibly involved in mediating double-color formation. These results provide a newunderstanding about the mechanism of double-color formation in P. suffruticosa ‘Shima Nishiki’.

        FINITE NON-NILPOTENT GENERALIZATIONS OF HAMILTONIAN GROUPS

        In J. Korean Math. Soc, Zhang, Xu and other authors investigated the following problem: what is the structure of finite groups which have many normal subgroups? In this paper, we shall study this question in a more general way. For a finite group G, we define the subgroup $\mathcal{A}(G)$ to be intersection of the normalizers of all non-cyclic subgroups of G. Set $\mathcal{A}_0=1$. Define $\mathcal{A}_{i+1}(G)/\mathcal{A}_i(G)=\mathcal{A}(G/\mathcal{A}_i(G))$ for $i{\geq}1$. By $\mathcal{A}_{\infty}(G)$ denote the terminal term of the ascending series. It is proved that if $G=\mathcal{A}_{\infty}(G)$, then the derived subgroup G' is nilpotent. Furthermore, if all elements of prime order or order 4 of G are in $\mathcal{A}(G)$, then G' is also nilpotent.

        Cordyceps militaris Extract Attenuates D-Galactose-Induced Memory Impairment in Mice

        Memory impairment is one of main clinical symptoms of brain senescence. To address the effects of Cordyceps militaris Link extract (CE) on memory impairment, a D-galactose (D-Gal)–induced aging mouse model was employed. Mice injected with D-Gal showed a significant learning and memory impairment that was rescued by CE treatment. The mechanism was further investigated by analyzing the protein level and activity of oxidant and antioxidant molecules, including malondialdehyde (MDA), monoamine oxidase (MAO), total super-oxide dismutase (T-SOD), total antioxidant capacity (T-AOC), glutathione (GSH), and glutathione peroxidase (GSH-px), which played critical roles in the development of brain senescence. The results showed that CE treatment resulted in a significant decrease in the oxidative activity of MAO and the level of MDA, and significantly increased the antioxidant activities of T-SOD and T-AOC in the cerebral cortices. Moreover, the level of GSH and the activity of antioxidant enzymes GSH-px in serum were significantly upregulated after CE treatment. Taken together, our results suggest that Cordyceps militaris extract could ameliorate experimental memory impairment in mice with D-Gal-induced aging through its potent antioxidant activities.

        Effects of ruminally degradable starch levels on performance, nitrogen balance, and nutrient digestibility in dairy cows fed low corn-based starch diets

        Objective: This trial was performed to examine the effects of ruminally degradable starch (RDS) levels in total mixed ration (TMR) with low corn-based starch on the milk production, whole-tract nutrient digestibility and nitrogen balance in dairy cows. Methods: Eight multiparous Holstein cows (body weight [BW]: 717±63 kg; days in milk [DIM]: 169±29) were assigned to a crossover design with two dietary treatments: a diet containing 62.3% ruminally degradable starch (% of total starch, low RDS) or 72.1% ruminally degradable starch (% of total starch, high RDS). Changes to the ruminally degradable levels were conducted by using either finely ground corn or steam-flaked corn as the starch component. Results: The results showed that dry matter intake, milk yield and composition in dairy cows were not affected by dietary treatments. The concentration of milk urea nitrogen was lower for cows fed high RDS TMR than low RDS TMR. The whole-tract apparent digestibility of neutral detergent fiber, acid detergent fiber and crude protein decreased, and that of starch increased for cows fed high RDS TMR over those fed low RDS TMR, with no dietary effect on the whole-tract apparent digestibility of dry matter and organic matter. The proportion of urinary N excretion in N intake was lower and that of fecal N excretion in N intake was higher for cows fed high RDS TMR than those fed low RDS TMR. The N secretion in milk and the retention of N were not influenced by the dietary treatments. Total purine derivative was similar in cows fed high RDS TMR and low RDS TMR. Consequently, estimated microbial N flow to the duodenum was similar in cows fed high RDS TMR and low RDS TMR. Conclusion: Results of this study show that ruminally degradable starch levels can influence whole-tract nutrient digestibility and nitrogen balance in dairy cows fed low corn-based starch diets, with no influence on performance.

        Astaxanthin supplementation enriches productive performance, physiological and immunological responses in laying hens

        Objective: Astaxanthin is a natural super antioxidant. The present study was carried out to investigate the effect of astaxanthin rich Phaffia rhodozyma (PR) supplementation in diets on laying production performance, egg quality, antioxidant defenses and immune defenses in laying hens. Methods: A total of five hundred and twelve 60-week-old Lohmann Brown laying hens (2,243±12 g) were randomly assigned to four groups, each including 4 replicates with 32 birds per replicate. Astaxanthin rich PR was added to corn-soybean meal diets to produce experimental diets containing 0 (Control), 800 mg/kg, 1,200 mg/kg, and 1,600 mg/kg PR, respectively. The astaxanthin content in the diet was 0.96 mg/kg, 1.44 mg/kg and 1.92 mg/kg respectively. Results: Results showed that dietary PR supplementation tended to increase daily feed intake (p = 0.0512). There was no effect of astaxanthin rich PR on Haugh units, albumen height, egg shape index, eggshell strength, and eggshell thickness at weeks 6 (p>0.05). However, egg yolk color was significantly improved (p<0.05). In addition, astaxanthin rich PR supplementation significantly increased serum glutathione peroxidase and superoxide dismutase activity (p<0.05), increased serum immunoglobulin G content (p<0.05), and reduced malondialdehyde content (p<0.05) in laying hens. Conclusion: In conclusion, astaxanthin rich PR can improve the color of egg yolk, enhance the antioxidant defenses, and regulate the immune function.         Combined transcriptome and proteome analyses reveal differences in the longissimus dorsi muscle between Kazakh cattle and Xinjiang brown cattle

        Objective: With the rapid development of proteomics sequencing and RNA sequencing technology, multi-omics analysis has become a current research hotspot. Our previous study indicated that Xinjiang brown cattle have better meat quality than Kazakh cattle. In this study, Xinjiang brown cattle and Kazakh cattle were used as the research objects. Methods: Proteome sequencing and RNA sequencing technology were used to analyze the proteome and transcriptome of the longissimus dorsi muscle of the two breeds of adult steers (n = 3). Results: In this project, 22,677 transcripts and 1,874 proteins were identified through quantitative analysis of the transcriptome and proteome. By comparing the identified transcriptome and proteome, we found that 1,737 genes were identified at both the transcriptome and proteome levels. The results of the study revealed 12 differentially expressed genes and proteins: troponin I1, crystallin alpha B, cysteine, and glycine rich protein 3, phosphotriesterase-related, myosin-binding protein H, glutathione s-transferase mu 3, myosin light chain 3, nidogen 2, dihydropyrimidinase like 2, glutamate-oxaloacetic transaminase 1, receptor accessory protein 5, and aspartoacylase. We performed functional enrichment of these differentially expressed genes and proteins. The Kyoto encyclopedia of genes and genomes results showed that these differentially expressed genes and proteins are enriched in the fatty acid degradation and histidine metabolism signaling pathways. We performed parallel reaction monitoring (PRM) verification of the differentially expressed proteins, and the PRM results were consistent with the sequencing results. Conclusion: Our study provided and identified the differentially expressed genes and proteins. In addition, identifying functional genes and proteins with important breeding value will provide genetic resources and technical support for the breeding and industrialization of new genetically modified beef cattle breeds.
