        Socioeconomic and Employment Status of Patients with Rheumatoid Arthritis in Korea

        OBJECTIVES: This study investigates the prevalence of rheumatoid arthritis (RA) by gender and socio-economic characteristics. It also explores the differences in the employment status between RA patients and the general population without RA in Korea. METHODS: We analyzed data from the Fourth Korea National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (KNHANES IV) conducted from 2007 to 2009. Prevalence rates were estimated for female and male patients with RA in terms of age, residence, education, income level, and occupation type. The female respondents aged 45 to 64 were divided into the RA population and the non-RA population in order to compare the employment status between the two groups. RESULTS: The annual physician-diagnosed RA prevalence rate was 1.45%. The prevalence rate was 2.27% for women and 0.62% for men. Individuals with RA had a significantly lower employment rate than individuals without RA (41.7 vs. 68.1%). The main reason for non-employment among RA patients was health-related problems (47.1%). There was statistically significant difference in employment type among the two groups. The experience rates for sick leave and sick-in-bed due to RA were 1.7 and 3.9%, respectively. CONCLUSION: Middle- and old-aged women accounted for the majority of the Korean RA population, which had a significant lower employment rate compared to the population without RA for both sexes. RA resulted in considerable productivity loss in Korea.

        온라인 기술시장은 단순한 기술 수요자와 공급자가 만나는 자리 뿐만 아니라 기술의 거래에 관련되는 절차와 그에 필요한 금융, 법률, 기술의 평가에 대한 정보를 제공함으로써 기술의 거래에 있어서 그 시간적, 물리적 비용을 줄이는데 그 존재의 이유가 있다 하겠다.<br/> 그러나 현재 기술시장은 온라인 뿐만 아니라 오프라인에서도 시장이 활성화되어 있지 못한 상태로 온라인 기술시장을 통한 정보의 확산 및 시장의 분위기 조성등의 기반 구축이 더욱 필요한 상황이라 하겠다.<br/> 이에 본 연구에서는 현재 우리나라 온라인 기술이전 시장 현황을 살펴보고 그 상황과 문제점을 도출한 후 해외의 온라인 기술이전 시장의 현황을 비교하여 우리나라 온라인 기술이전시장에 적합한 운영방안을 마련하고자 한다.

        연구결과는 학술적인 논문, 기술의 기반이 되는 특허, 기술이 체화된 상품 등 다양한 방법으로 도출되고 있다. 현재까지 연구 성과를 측정하는데 있어서 수치로 표시되는 정량적인 평가는 용이하게 활용하고 있다. 하지만 질적인 우수성을 평가하기 위한 정성적인 방법은 많은 연구를 필요로 한다. 각기 다른 목적이나 용도로 만들어진 평가지표나 방법론이 적절하게 적용하여 평가지표로 적용되어 지기는 힘든 상황이다. 특히 연구자나 기관 등의 평가 시 연구논문을 활용한 계량정보기법을 근간으로 하는 다양한 방법이 많은 연구자들을 통해 제시되고 있다. 또한 학술적인 논문 뿐아니라 산업으로 대표되는 특허의 평가시도 유사한 방법을 활용하고 있다. 문헌의 경우는 SCI DB를 활용하여 정성적인 부분을 대체하고 있다. 하지만 산업으로 대표되는 특허의 정성 평가는 많이 활용하지 못하고 있다. 이에 특히 문헌 및 특허의 인용정보를 대상으로 최근 제안되고 있는 연구 성과 지표인 h-지수 등을 활용하여 사례를 분석하여 보고자 한다.

      • Skin Aging-Dependent Activation of the PI3K Signaling Pathway via Downregulation of PTEN Increases Intracellular ROS in Human Dermal Fibroblasts

        <P>Reactive oxygen species (ROS) play a major role in both chronological aging and photoaging. ROS induce skin aging through their damaging effect on cellular constituents. However, the origins of ROS have not been fully elucidated. We investigated that ROS generation of replicative senescent fibroblasts is generated by the modulation of phosphatidylinositol 3,4,5-triphosphate (PIP3) metabolism. Reduction of the PTEN protein, which dephosphorylates PIP3, was responsible for maintaining a high level of PIP3 in replicative cells and consequently mediated the activation of the phosphatidylinositol-3-OH kinase (PI3K)/Akt pathway. Increased ROS production was blocked by inhibition of PI3K or protein kinase C (PKC) or by NADPH oxidase activating in replicative senescent cells. These data indicate that the signal pathway to ROS generation in replicative aged skin cells can be stimulated by reduced PTEN level. Our results provide new insights into skin aging-associated modification of the PI3K/NADPH oxidase signaling pathway and its relationship with a skin aging-dependent increase of ROS in human dermal fibroblasts.</P>

        Imagined memory sensing of character recognition by on skin painting tattoo electrodes using in vivo brain computer interfaced wearable circuits

        Brain computer interface neuro diagnostics were described using an art painted tattoo membrane (PTM) by in vitro electrode on the skin surface. The PTM membrane of skin film was made from Carboxymethyl cellulose plant pulp back bone structure and mineral oil mixing three electrode systems. The analytical chrono cyclic potential windows were of 2.0 ~-2.0 V. The accumulation scan direction of oxidation and reduction current were used, and a sophisticated method of stripping accumulation was performed to - 2.0 V deposition potential. Furthermore, a 30 second stripping time and other para strengths were optimized, such as square wave amplification, increment potential, redox direction and differential delta strength. These were examined in an electrolyte solution, and a standard sensing of working range was attained to ㎎/L metal detection. A trace detection limit of optimum para meters can be applied to neuro assay of in vivo diagnostics for memory sensing and imagination character recognition. Developed here are the results demonstrating the usability for brain computer interfaced neuro control.

        Usefulness of $^{18}F$-FDG PET/CT for the Evaluation of Bone Marrow Involvement in Patients with High-Grade Non-Hodgkin's Lymphoma

        Purpose To assess the usefulness of $^{18}F$-fluorodeoxyglucose PET/CT in the detection of bone marrow (BM) involvement of high-grade non-Hodgkin's lymphoma (NHL). Methods One hundred twenty patients with newly diagnosed diffuse large B-cell lymphoma or peripheral T-cell lymphoma between January 2007 and June 2011, who received BM trephine biopsy and $^{18}F$-FDG PET/CT before chemotherapy, were included in this retrospective study. We reviewed their $^{18}F$-FDG PET/CT images and bone marrow biopsy (BMB) results. After reviewing the images, we reviewed the medical records and radiological findings of interesting patients. Results There were 23 $^{18}F$-FDG PET/CT scans in which the marrow was considered to be abnormal (either positive or equivocal), and 97 $^{18}F$-FDG PET/CT scans were regarded as having negative FDG uptake. Of 120 patients, 100 (83.3 %) had a concordant result of BM interpretation between $^{18}F$-FDG PET/CT and BMB, and the remaining 20 patients had discordant results. Among 23 patients with either positive or equivocal $^{18}F$-FDG PET/CT scans, 1 of 12 patients with 'positive' $^{18}F$-FDG PET/CT had a lymphomatous involvement on BMB. In contrast, 10 of 11 patients with 'equivocal' BM hypermetabolism were reported as having positive involvement by BMB. Patients with abnormal $^{18}F$-FDG PET/CT had significantly higher $mSUV_{highest}$ than those with normal FDG-PET/CT. Conclusions $^{18}F$-FDG PET/CT and BMB are complementary techniques in assessing the presence of BM involvement in patients with high-grade NHL. The increasing availability of $^{18}F$-FDG PET/CTwill raise the need for additional biopsy for FDG-avid lesions, especially in patients with negative standard BMBs. $^{18}F$-FDG PET/CT can be useful as a decision-making tool for determining whether to perform a standard BMB or targeted biopsy to the FDG-avid lesion as an initial staging procedure.A direct bone biopsy for FDGpositive bone lesions should be included in staging guidelines in future. In $^{18}F$-FDG PET/CT-negative cases, BMB is still a powerful procedure, but BMB alone is insufficient for full evaluation of BM.

        Pemetrexed versus Gefitinib versus Erlotinib in Previously Treated Patients with Non-Small Cell Lung Cancer

        Background/Aims: The efficacy and safety of pemetrexed, gefitinib, and erlotinib administration in previously treated patients with non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) were compared. Methods: The study patients met the following criteria: histologically confirmed, previously treated advanced (stage IIIB or IV) or recurrent NSCLC; a measurable lesion; ≥18 years of age; Eastern Cooperative Oncology Group Performance status 0 to 2; and no prior exposure to the three study drugs. Patients received 500 mg/m2 of pemetrexed intravenously every 3 weeks with vitamin supplementation, gefitinib (250 mg/day per os), or erlotinib (150 mg/day per os). Results: Of 57 patients (pemetrexed, 20; gefitinib, 20; and erlotinib, 17), 55 were evaluated for a response. The numbers of males, smokers, and squamous histology were increased in the pemetrexed group compared to the other groups. The objective response rates were 5.3%, 25.0%, and 12.5% (p=0.22), and the disease control rates (DCR) were 5.3%, 40.0%, and 50.0%, respectively (p<0.01). The median progression-free survival (PFS) was 1.7, 3.5, and 4.4 months (p<0.01) and the median overall survival (OS) was 5.6, 21.8, and 21.5 months (p=0.04), respectively. In subgroup analyses, patients with non-squamous histology, males, and a smoking history had a higher DCR and longer PFS with gefitinib and erlotinib than with pemetrexed. All three chemotherapeutic agents had manageable toxicities. Conclusions: Both oral epidermal growth factor receptor tyrosine kinase inhibitors (EGFR TKIs) had comparable efficacy and safety. The superior PFS and OS of EGFR TKIs with more favorable baseline clinical characteristics than those of pemetrexed suggest the impact of baseline clinicopathological factors.         과학 기술 정책 및 산업 정책을 수립하기 위해 과학, 기술, 산업의 지식 흐름에 대한 연구가 최근 활발히 진행되고 있다. 지금까지 과학, 기술, 산업 간의 관계를 규명하기 위한 연구는 과학과 기술 측면, 기술과 산업 측면에서 주로 연구되었고, 과학-산업측면에 대한 연구는 미진한 상황이다. 본 연구는 특허인용정보를 사용하여 과학-기술-산업에 대한 지식흐름을 측정하는 방법을 제시하고자 한다. 특허와 이 특허에 인용된 학술문헌정보간 매핑을 통해 구해진 과학-기술간 지식흐름 데이터와, OECD가 발표한 특허와 산업간 매핑 소프트웨어인 OTC 프로그램을 이용하여 구해진 기술-산업간 지식흐름 데이터를 토대로 네트웍 링크 가중치 계산 방법인 오버랩 함수를 적용하여 과학-산업간 지식흐름을 규명하는 방법을 제시하고자 한다. Recently, several studies have been carried on knowledge flow of science, technology, industry to establish STI policy. Still it is lack of studies on relationship of science-industry although there have been studied only in aspect of science-technology relationship or technology -industry relationship. This paper's purpose is to propose method to measure knowledge flow among science, technology, and industry by means of patent citation. After gathering knowledge flow data between science and technology through mapping citing patent and cited paper, it gets knowledge flows data between technology-industry by using OTC (OECD Technology Concordance), technology-industry mapping program. Basd on 2 types of knowledge flow data, it propose method to examine knowledge flow from science to industry by applying overlap function is a network link weight function.

        동시저자 분석(Co-Authorship Analysis)은 계량서지 분석 방법의 하나로서 특정 기술 분야의 지식생산 네트워크의 특성을 파악하는데 매우 유용한 분석 기법이라 할 수 있다. 본 연구는 둘 이상의 연구자가 하나의 논문을 공동으로 작성하였다면 이들 사이에 지식의 연결고리가 존재한다는 가정 하에 국내 OLED 분야의 지적 구조를 계량서지 분석 기법인 동시저자 분석을 통하여 규명해 봄으로써 OLED 분야의 발전 방향과 학문적 위상을 정립하는데 그 목적이 있다. 분석 데이터로는 SCI(E) DB에 수록되어 있는 OLED 기술 분야의 논문 중에서 한국인들이 작성한 논문을 사용하였다. Co-Authorship analysis ia a kind of bibliometric analysis. and a well established tool for character of knowledge network in some technical fields. If more than two authors co-author an article, there is a relation of knowledge. So This study aims at discovering the trends and phases of OLED technology using co-authorship analysis, a kind of bibliographic analysis. The Science Citation Index Expanded(SCIE) database was used to search for the number of times paired Korean articles were co-authored in OLED field.
