Effect of Time Interval on Speed Estimation using Single Loop Detector Measurements

Considering the importance of estimating speed from single loop detector measurements for many Intelligent Transportation System (ITS) related applications, a variety of algorithms have been developed in the literature for specific time intervals. However,the performance of these algorithms over a spectrum of time intervals has not yet received appropriate attention in the transportation research community. In this study, a Kalman filter based algorithm is selected as a typical representative and investigated over a spectrum of 30 time intervals starting from 1-minute to 30-minute with one minute increment. Empirical results using real world data show that the selected algorithm has workable performances for most of the time intervals under investigation. Specifically, the performances of the selected approach improve for intervals from 1-minute to 5-minute, stay stable for intervals between 5-minute and 15-minute, and decrease slightly for longer time intervals greater than 15-minute. The results demonstrate the ability of the selected algorithm to be readily implemented in a variety of transportation applications with specific time interval needs. Future work is recommended to develop a framework of coupling speed estimating algorithms and real world transportation applications through investigating other single loop speed estimation approaches and ITS application related time interval needs.

Wild strain L-6 was subjected to combined mutagenesis, including UV irradiation, atmospheric and room temperature plasma, and ion beam implantation, to increase the yield of 1,3-dihydroxyacetone (DHA). With application of a high-throughput screening method, mutant Gluconobacter oxydans I-2-239 with a DHA productivity of 103.5 g/l in flask-shake fermentation was finally obtained with the starting glycerol concentration of 120 g/l, which was 115.7% higher than the wild strain. The cultivation time also decreased from 54 h to 36 h. Compared with the wild strain, a dramatic increase in enzyme activity was observed for the mutant strain, although the increase in biomass was limited. DNA and amino acid sequence alignment revealed 11 nucleotide substitutions and 10 amino acid substitutions between the sldAB of strains L-6 and I-2-239. Simulation of the 3-D structure and prediction of active site residues and PQQ binding site residues suggested that these mutations were mainly related to PQQ binding, which was speculated to be favorable for the catalyzing capacity of glycerol dehydrogenase. RT-qPCR assay indicated that the transcription levels of sldA and sldB in the mutant strain were respectively 4.8-fold and 5.4-fold higher than that in the wild strain, suggesting another possible reason for the increased DHA productivity of the mutant strain.

Let G be a topological group with a locally compact and Hausdorff topology. Let ω be a diagonally bounded weight on G. In this paper, (σ, σ)-derivation and (σ, 𝜏)-weak amenability of the Beurling algebra L<sup>1</sup><sub>ω</sub>(G) are studied, where σ, 𝜏 are isometric automorphisms of L<sup>1</sup><sub>ω</sub>(G). We prove that every continuous (σ, σ)-derivation from L<sup>1</sup><sub>ω</sub>(G) into measure algebra M<sub>ω</sub>(G) is (σ, σ)-inner and the Beurling algebra L<sup>1</sup><sub>ω</sub>(G) is (σ, 𝜏)-weakly amenable.
Annealing Effect on the Electron Spin Dynamics in Heavily Mn-doped (Ga,Mn)As

A temperature- and photo-excitation-density-dependent electron spin dephasing process has beenstudied by time-resolved magneto-optical Kerr effect (TR-MOKE) measurements for heavily-doped(Ga,Mn)As after appropriate annealing treatment. Unlike the as-grown (Ga,Mn)As in which sdscattering is dominant for spin dephasing at low temperature, the exchange scattering inducedby Mn ions is efficiently suppressed after annealing. For annealed (Ga,Mn)As, the p-d exchangecoupling proves to be important for the electron spin dephasing process. Moreover, the Coulombscattering arising from the weakly-localized holes and Mn impurities is revealed to play an importantrole in the electron spin dephasing after annealing. Our results demonstrate that the impurityinduceddisorder plays a significant role in the electron spin-dephasing process in (Ga,Mn)As whenMn is over doped by as much as 15%, which is a critical issue that needs to be considered to achievehigh-quality (Ga,Mn)As thin films with a higher Curie temperature TC and better functionality.
Association between Delayed Lactogenesis II and Early Milk Volume among Mothers of Preterm Infants

Purpose: This study aimed to evaluate the effect of delayed lactogenesis Ⅱ on early milk volume in mothers expressing milk for their preterm infants. Methods: 142 mothers with preterm infants participated in a longitudinal cohort study, the milk volumes over 14 days postpartum between mothers with delayed lactogenesis Ⅱ ( 72 hours) and mothers with non-delayed lactogenesis Ⅱ(< 72 hours) were compared using Wilcoxon's rank sum tests. Results: The prevalence of delayed lactogenesisⅡ among mothers of preterm infants was 36.0% (36/100). There existed negative correlations between the onset of lactogenesis Ⅱ and the daily milk volumes( rs ¼ 0.525~0.354, p ¼ .002 ~ p < .001). The milk volumes in every 24-hour of the 14 days postpartum in delayed group were significantly less than that in non-delayed group (p ¼ .002 ~ p < .001). After controlling for the covariates, pregnancy-induced hypertension syndrome, delayed expression initiation, shorter daily sleeping time were found to be the risk factors for delayed lactogenesis Ⅱ. Conclusion: Delayed lactogenesis Ⅱ was associated with lower milk volume in early postpartum period. Women who were at risk for delayed lactogenesis Ⅱ need targeted interventions and additional support during pregnancy and postpartum.

Administration of black raspberries (BRBs) and their anthocyanin metabolites, including protocatechuic acid (PCA), has been demonstrated to exert chemopreventive effects against colorectal cancer through alteration of innate immune cell trafficking, modulation of metabolic and inflammatory pathways, etc. Previous research has shown that the gut microbiome is important in the effectiveness of chemoprevention of colorectal cancer. This study aimed to assess the potency of PCA versus BRB dietary administration for colorectal cancer prevention using an ApcMin/+ mouse model and determine how bacterial profiles change in response to PCA and BRBs. A control AIN-76A diet supplemented with 5% BRBs, 500 ppm PCA, or 1,000 ppm PCA was administered to Apc- Min/+ mice. Changes in incidence, polyp number, and polyp size regarding adenomas of the small intestine and colon were assessed after completion of the diet regimen. There were significant decreases in adenoma development by dietary administration of PCA and BRBs in the small intestine and the 5% BRB-supplemented diet in the colon. Pro-inflammatory bacterial profiles were replaced with anti-inflammatory bacteria in all treatments, with the greatest effects in the 5% BRB and 500 ppm PCA-supplemented diets accompanied by decreased COX-2 and prostaglandin E2 levels in colonic mucosa. We further showed that 500 ppm PCA, but not 1,000 ppm PCA, increased IFN-γ and SMAD4 levels in primary cultured human natural killer cells. These results suggest that both BRBs and a lower dose PCA can benefit colorectal cancer patients by inhibiting the growth and proliferation of adenomas and promoting a more favorable gut microbiome condition.

This paper attempts to address the effectiveness of physical-layer network coding (PNC) on the throughput improvement for multi-hop multicast in random wireless ad hoc networks (WAHNs). We prove that the per session throughput order with PNC is tightly bounded as ${\Theta}((n\sqrt{m}R(n))^{-1})$ if $m=(R^{-2}(n))$, where n is the total number of nodes, R(n) is the communication range, and m is the number of destinations for each multicast session. We also show that per-session throughput order with PNC is tight bounded as ${\Theta}(n^{-1})$, when $m={\Omega}(R^{-2}(n))$. The results of this paper imply that PNC cannot improve the throughput order of multicast in random WAHNs, which is different from the intuition that PNC may improve the throughput order as it allows simultaneous signal access and combination.

<P>We report a series of solution-processable, small-molecule, donor materials based on an architecture consisting of two diketopyrrolopyrrole (DPP) cores with different aromatic π-bridges between the DPP units and different end-capping groups. In general, this architecture leads to desirable light absorption and electronic levels for donor materials. Out of the compounds investigated, a material with a hydrolyzed dithieno(3,2-<I>b</I>;2′,3′-<I>d</I>)silole (SDT) core and 2-benzofuran (BFu) end capping groups leads to the most favorable properties for solar cells, capable of generating photocurrent up to 800 nm while producing an open-circuit voltage of over 850 mV, indicating a small loss in electrical potential compared to other bulk heterojunction systems.
