Re-investigation of the Mediating Effect of Brain Activities between Dispositional Factors and Hazard Recognition A Multilevel Logistic Regression Approach

Jiaming Wang,Yu-Sung Su,Pin-Chao Liao 대한토목학회 2023 KSCE Journal of Civil Engineering Vol.27 No.9

Understanding the relationships among dispositional factors, brain activities, and hazard recognition is important for developing auxiliary safety technologies and improving construction safety performance. However, current logistic statistical models have embedded potential biases into the interpretation of brain activities. The purpose of this study was to re-investigate the mediation effect of brain activities between dispositional factors (risk propensity, work experience, and injury history) and hazard recognition performance (HRP). An experiment was designed in which 71 construction workers each completed 120 hazard recognition trials (N = 8520), while the research team used an electroencephalogram recorder to record the brainwaves of the participants. The data were analyzed by the multilevel logistic regression method, and the results showed that the brain activities in FP1, FP2, and AF3 significantly mediated the relationship between dispositional factors and HRP. The findings theoretically supplement the understanding of brain activities in different hazard cognitive stages for hazard recognition. The results should contribute to the development of neuro-engineering technology and safety management strategies.

Distinctive Judicial-Tailored Causation References of Construction Accidents

        Jiaming Wang,Rui Cheng,Heap-Yih Chong,Pin-Chao Liao 대한토목학회 2022 KSCE JOURNAL OF CIVIL ENGINEERING Vol.26 No.8

Accident liability allocation is significant for social justice and industry safety. The allocation of liability between individuals and organizations depends on the judgment of their negligence in accidents. However, current judicial practice does not show a clear distinction between different accident types when allocating liabilities, and there is a lack of scientific evidence to guide the legal decision-making process in liability allocation. Unfortunately, current accident causation research does not sufficiently meet the requirements as scientific evidence to support the realization of more strategic and targeted liability allocation. This study introduces the qualitative comparative analysis (QCA) method into the field of accident analysis using crisp-set QCA (csQCA) to explore the causal distinctions between fall and non-fall accidents based on the human factor analysis and classification system (HFACS). The results show that organizational influence and unsafe acts distinctively signify fall and non-fall accidents, and that the precondition of unsafe acts is their junction. Theoretically, this study 1) furnishes a QCA tool that allows academic research with uncertainty to be used in the body of evidence that meets the requirements of law, thereby extending the application scope of accident research to the legal practice of liability allocation; and 2) provides meaningful references for the judgment of negligence and accident liability for judicial practice.

T-spline surface smoothing based on 1-ring neighborhood space angle

        Wang Aizeng,Li Ling,Chang Heng,Zhao Gang,Wang Wei,Yang Jiaming 한국CDE학회 2022 Journal of computational design and engineering Vol.9 No.4

The prominent properties owned by T-spline, such as flexibility, continuity, local refinement, water tightness, make it extensively applied in Computer Aided Design (CAD)- and Computer Aided Engineering (CAE)-integrating scenarios. But the local fairness may dissatisfy in damaged areas or even on the entire surface of industry applications. Under these circumstances, local protrusion and sharp features appeared seriously affect the fairness of T-spline surfaces. Derived from the geometric properties of T-spline control points, we propose a smoothing algorithm based on the 1-ring neighborhood space angle to deal with local abruptions of T-spline surfaces. We also demonstrate the availability of the proposed algorithm through several experiments. Results show that this method is suitable for removing sharp features and smoothing unstructured T-spline surfaces.

Influence of Atmospheric Turbulence Channel on a Ghost-imaging Transmission System

        Wang, Kaimin,Wang, Zhaorui,Zhang, Leihong,Kang, Yi,Ye, Hualong,Hu, Jiafeng,Xu, Jiaming Optical Society of Korea 2020 Current Optics and Photonics Vol.4 No.1

We research a system of compressed-sensing computational ghost imaging (CSCGI) based on the intensity fluctuation brought by turbulence. In this system, we used the gamma-gamma intensity-fluctuation model, which is commonly used in transmission systems, to simulate the CSCGI system. By setting proper values of the parameters such as transmission distance, refractive-index structure parameter, and sampling rates, the peak signal-to-noise ratio (PSNR) performance and bit-error rate (BER) performance are obtained to evaluate the imaging quality, which provides a theoretical model to further research the ghost-imaging algorithm.

Effects of regeneration conditions on sulfated CuSSZ-13 catalyst for NH3-SCR

        Meiqing Shen,Zhixin Wang,Xinhua Li,Jiaming Wang,Jianqiang Wang,Chen Wang,Jun Wang 한국화학공학회 2019 Korean Journal of Chemical Engineering Vol.36 No.8

To understand the role of regeneration conditions on sulfur-poisoned Cu/SSZ-13 catalysts for NH3-SCR, the physicochemical characterizations and NOx conversions were investigated. The sulfur-poisoned Cu/SSZ-13 catalysts were treated at different conditions as a function of temperature and duration. TGA results revealed that regeneration at 500 oC only removed parts of sulfur spices and at 700 oC can completely remove all sulfur spices. The physical structural characterizations results illustrate that regeneration below 700 oC has no significant impact on CHA structure for Cu/SSZ-13 catalysts, while dealumination occurs on poisoned Cu/SSZ-13 when regeneration temperature is higher than 700 oC. EPR and H2-TPR results show that the sulfate decomposition and Cu migration reactions involved during regeneration and, as a result, the content of Cu2+ gradually increased as the extent of regeneration increased. The kinetics tests support that NOx conversion recovery is related to the content of Cu2+ increase during regeneration. Our study reveals that the optimum regeneration temperature is 700 oC, because severe dealumination at 750 oC inhibited Cu2+ amount increase.

High yield engineered nanovesicles from ADSC with enriched miR-21-5p promote angiogenesis in adipose tissue regeneration

        Sun Di,Mou Shan,Chen Lifeng,Yang Jie,Wang Rongrong,Zhong Aimei,Wang Wei,Tong Jing,Wang Zhenxing,Sun Jiaming 한국생체재료학회 2023 생체재료학회지 Vol.27 No.00

Background: Mesenchymal stem cell-derived extracellular vesicles (MSC-EVs) have been found to have a great potential for soft tissue repair due to various biological functions, including pro-angiogenesis and low immunogenicity. However, the low yield and heterogeneity of MSC-EVs limited their clinical transformation. This study was designed to develop a novel adipose-derived stem cell engineered nanovesicles (ADSC-NVs) with high production and explore its pro-angiogenetic effect and application in adipose tissue regeneration. Methods: Adipose-derived stem cell-derived extracellular vesicles (ADSC-EVs) were isolated from an EVs-free culture medium for human ADSCs (hADSCs). ADSC-NVs were prepared by sequentially extruding ADSCs followed by iodixanol density gradient ultracentrifugation and were compared with ADSC-EVs in morphology, size distribution, protein contents and yield. The pro-angiogenetic effect of ADSC-NVs in different doses (0, 5, 20 and 80 μg/mL) in vitro was determined using transwell assay, tube formation assay, western blot and qRT-PCR. In vivo, BALB/c nude mice were administered injection of a mixture of fat granules and different dose of ADSC-NVs and grafts were harvested at 12 weeks post-transplantation for further analysis. By analyzing the weight and volume of grafts and histological evaluation, we investigated the effect of ADSC-NVs in vessel formation and adipose tissue regeneration. Results: Our results showed yield of purified ADSC-NVs was approximately 20 times more than that of ADSC-EVs secreted by the same number of ADSCs. In vitro, both ADSC-NVs and ADSC-EVs exhibited a dose-dependent proangiogenetic effect, despite their distinct miRNA profiles. These effects of ADSC-NVs may be mediated by enriched miR-21-5p via PTEN inhibition and PI3K/p-Akt signaling activation. Furthermore, after a mixed injection of ADSC-NVs, vessel formation and adipose regeneration were observed in vivo in fat implants. Conclusions: Our study developed a potent alternative of ADSC-EVs. ADSC-NVs have a high pro-angiogenesis potential and can be used as cell-free therapeutic biomaterials in soft tissue regeneration.

Adaptive Pinning Synchronization of Complex Networks with Partial Delay and Noise Coupling

        Wang Li,Yue Qiao,Jiaming Wu,Hongjun Shi,Yongzheng Sun 제어·로봇·시스템학회 2023 International Journal of Control, Automation, and Vol.21 No.1

In this paper, we investigate the adaptive pinning synchronization of complex networks with partial delay and noise coupling. First, more realistic complex networks with partial delay and noise perturbation are established. Combining the advantages of the adaptive control method and pinning control technology, a novel coupling is designed to realize the synchronization. Several sufficient criteria for almost sure outer synchronization are developed based on the LaSalle invariance principle for stochastic differential equations. Finally, numerical simulations are performed to verify the effectiveness of the proposed synchronization scheme.

Therapeutic responses to chemotherapy or immunotherapy by molecular subtype in bladder cancer patients: A meta-analysis and systematic review

        Shunde Wang,Xiaoyu Yuan,Zhongjie Shen,Jiaming Zhao,Baishu Zheng,Junyong Zhang,Chengguo Ge 대한비뇨의학회 2023 Investigative and Clinical Urology Vol.64 No.3

To systematically evaluate the differences in therapeutic response to chemotherapy or immunotherapy between different molecular subtypes of bladder cancer (BC). A comprehensive literature search was performed up to December 2021. Consensus clusters 1 (CC1), CC2 and CC3 molecular subtypes were used to perform meta-analysis. Pooled odds ratios (ORs) with 95% confidence intervals (CIs) were used to assess the therapeutic response by fix-effect modeling. Eight studies involving 1,463 patients were included. For immunotherapy, CC3 showed the highest response rate (CC1 vs. CC3: OR=0.52, 95% CI=0.34–0.78, p=0.002; CC2 vs. CC3: OR=0.42, 95% CI=0.28-0.62, p<0.001), which was mainly reflected in the highest response rate to atezolizumab (CC1 vs. CC3: OR=0.47, 95% CI=0.29–0.75, p=0.002; CC2 vs. CC3: OR=0.38, 95% CI=0.24–0.59, p<0.001). For chemotherapy, CC3 had the lowest response rate to the overall chemotherapy (CC1 vs. CC3: OR=2.05, 95% CI=1.23–3.41, p=0.006; CC2 vs. CC3: OR=2.48, 95% CI=1.50–4.10, p<0.001). Compared with CC2, CC3 responded poorly to both neo-adjuvant chemotherapy (NAC) (OR=1.93, 95% CI=1.09–3.41, p=0.020) and chemoradiation therapy (CRT) (OR=6.07, 95% CI=1.87–19.71, p<0.001). Compared with CC1, CC3 only showed a poorer response to CRT (OR=4.53, 95% CI=1.26–16.27, p=0.020), and no difference in NAC. Our study suggested that molecular classifications are important predictors of cancer treatment outcomes of BC patients and could identify subgroup patients who are most likely to benefit from specific cancer treatments.

Studying the Effect of Downregulating Autophagy-Related Gene LC3 on TLR3 Apoptotic Pathway Mediated by dsRNA in Hepatocellular Carcinoma Cells

        Guilan Wang,Maona Zhang,Yunlong Li,Jiaming Zhou,Li Chen 대한암학회 2017 Cancer Research and Treatment Vol.49 No.1

Purpose The purpose of this study is to examine the role of the double-stranded RNA (dsRNA) activated Toll–interleukin-1 receptor domain-containing adaptor inducing interferon  (TRIF) signal pathway in triggering apoptosis in hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) cells. Materials and Methods First, siRNA targeted autophagy–related gene LC3 (pU6H1-LC3 siRNA and siLC3) and a dsRNA used as a Toll-like receptor 3 (TLR3) ligand was constructed and synthesized, respectively. Then, a human HCC cell line was transfected with dsRNA, siLC3, and cotransfected with siLC3 and dsRNA (siLC3+dsRNA), respectively. Finally, quantification real-time polymerase chain reaction, western blotting, and immunofluorescence staining were used in the HCC line (SMMC7721), and MTT assay, flow cytometry, terminal deoxynucleotidyl transferase-mediated dUTP nick-end-labeling, and transmission electron microscopy were used in an HCC xenograft model of nude mice. Human umbilical vein endothelial cell tube forming assay, color Doppler ultrasonographic flow image examination, and CD34-positive microvessel density were used in vitro and in vivo. Results Compared with untreated cells, the protein and mRNA expression of TLR3 and TRIF was up-regulated, in order, siLC3+dsRNA, dsRNA, and siLC3. Expression of LC3 was obviously down-regulated and the autophagosomes were significantly decreased in siLC3+dsRNA and siLC3, whereas in dsRNA (p < 0.05). LC3 and TRIF colocation was observed in HepG2 cells. Decreased cell viability, increased apoptosis, decrease in xenograft tumor volume, and angiogenesis potential were also observed in order (p < 0.05). Conclusion Suppression of intracellular autophagy resulted in decreased degradation of TRIF protein, which can promote triggering of apoptosis by the TLR3-TRIF pathway. dsRNA and siLC3 could play anticancer roles in coordination.
