A development of hydrazine decomposition catalyst for monopropellant thruster has been carried out by Korea Aerospace Research Institute. The goal of this development is to produce catalyst showing the equivalent performance with space-proven catalysts. During the 151 catalyst development stage, life of catalyst had been estimated about 5 years for our typical low earth orbit satellite and this could not satisfy our satellite mission when we consider sufficient margin. So, we tried to improve catalyst durability by improvement of alumina carrier for catalyst. In this paper, the result of 1st catalyst development will be introduced and the alumina carrier improvement plan and progress will be presented.

Nontuberculous mycobacteria (NTM) have been increasingly recognized as an important cause of chronic pulmonary infections. The Mycobacterium avium complex (MAC), which is composed of two species, Mycobacterium avium and Mycobacterium intracelluare, is the most commonly encountered pathogen associated with NTM lung disease. MAC pulmonary infection typically presents in a fibrocavitary form or a nodular bronchiectatic form. However, there have been atypical presentations of MAC pulmonary infections, including solitary pulmonary nodules (SPN). There have been several previous reports of SPN due to MAC infection in the United States, Japan, and Korea. In 2009, Sekine and colleagues reported a case of MAC pulmonary infection presenting with multiple nodules. To date, however, there have been no cases of NTM lung infection with multiple cavitary pulmonary nodules, and neither a fibrotic change nor nodular bronchiectasis. The present case showed a multiple cavitating nodular lung infection due to MAC, which is very rare and different from the typical presentation of MAC pulmonary infections. We also showed that percutaneous transthoracic needle aspiration can be a useful diagnostic tool to evaluate a case of multiple cavitary nodules.

<P>The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of reinforcing polyaromatic polyamide (aramid) fibers with various orientations on the flexural properties of denture base resin. Aramid fibers with four orientations of unidirectional, woven, non-woven and paper-type were pre-impregnated and placed at the bottom of a specimen mold. Heat-polymerized denture base resin was packed over the fibers and polymerized. A three-point bending test was performed using a universal testing machine at a crosshead speed of 5 mm/min. The flexural strengths and flexural moduli of the unidirectional and woven groups were significantly higher than those of the control and other experimental groups. For the flexural moduli, all experimental groups showed significantly higher reinforcing effects than the control group. In conclusion, the unidirectional group located perpendicular to the direction of the load was most effective in reinforcing the denture base resin, followed by the woven group.</P>

Severe adenovirus pneumonia that causes acute respiratory failure can occur in infants, children, and immunocompromised patients. However, severe adenovirus pneumonia is rare in adults with a normal immune system. Adenovirus pneumonia may progress to acute respiratory failure in a few hours or a few days, and its clinical course cannot be predicted. In addition, the mortality rate is very high (range, 50% to 66%). However, the optimal treatment of adenovirus pneumonia has not been established. Herein, we report the successful treatment of acute respiratory failure due to adenovirus pneumonia with extracorporeal membrane oxygenation.

<P>18F -FP-CIT PET image was useful for diagnosis of Parkinson's disease (PD). Although spatial normalization step is necessary in SPM analysis, it was difficult to apply the spatial normalization on 18F-FP-CIT PET due to the lack of reference for spatial normalization. Therefore, additional data acquisition such as MRI or FDG PET scans is needed. In this study, we developed the voxel based statistical analysis method for 18F-FP-CIT PET using early phase of 18F-FP-CIT. 18F-FP-CIT PET data was acquired from 7 normal and 1 PD model rat brain. Emission PET data was collected for 1 h at the start of 1 mCi of 18F-FP-CIT. We used the early phase uptake image (from 0 to 1200 s) including perfusion phase as referential information for spatial normalization. Additionally, 18F-FDG PET was acquired as referential data to validate the substitution of 18F-FP-CIT. To validate early phase 18F-FP-CIT PET data for spatial normalization, correlation coefficient between early phase 18F-FP-CIT and 18F-FDG were assessed. Using our proposed method, SPM for 18F-FP-CIT PET was successfully implemented. Early phase 18F-FP-CIT PET corresponding early phase and 18F-FDG PET were highly correlated. When we applied our developed method for the comparison between normal and PD, we can identify the difference of 18F -FP-CIT between the normal and PD in the striatum (<I>P</I> <; 0.005, K > 0). The SPM method for 18F -FP-CIT PET data could provide high localization accuracy in PD analysis. This method may be useful for assessment of PD.</P>

Background/Aims: There are limited data regarding the clinical outcomes of self-expandable metal stents in the treatment of proximal colon obstruction. We compared the clinical outcomes of stent placement in patients with malignant proximal to distal colon obstructions. Methods: We reviewed medical records from 37 consecutive patients from three institutions (19 men; mean age, 72 years) who underwent endoscopic stent placement at a malignant obstruction of the proximal colon. We also examined the records from 99 patients (50 men; mean age, 65 years) who underwent endoscopic stent placement for a distal colon obstruction. Technical success, clinical improvements, complications and stent patency were compared between treatments. Results: The technical success rate tended to be lower in stents inserted to treat proximal colon obstructions than in those used to treat distal colon obstructions (86% vs 97%, p=0.06). Clinical improvement was achieved in 78% of patients (29/37) with proximal colonic stenting and in 91% of patients (90/99) with distal colonic stenting (p=0.08). Complications (24% vs 27%), stent migration (8% vs 8%) and stent reocclusion rates (11% vs 17%) did not differ signifi cantly between groups. Two cases of bowel perforation related to stenting (5%) occurred in patients with proximal colonic stenting. Conclusions: The technical success and clinical improvement associated with self-expandable metal stents used to treat proximal colon obstruction tend to be lower than cases of distal colon obstruction. Technical failure is an important cause of poor clinical improvement in patients with proximal colon stenting. Complication rates and stent patency appear to be similar in both groups.
