Recently, Load of transmission is increased by high performance and high power of commercial vehicle. So transmission for commercial vehicle is required to supply the proper lubricant oil if reducing the worn and heat by great rate. But flor characteristics of oil pump cannot be confirm with experimentation. In this study, we could find out the flow ripple in oil pump which is to supply lubricant oil at lubricant system of transmission. And detailed complex flow of oil pump was examined by numerical analysis.

In this study, it was compared collecting performance according to contact types between heatpipe and manifold of vacuum tube type solar collector. Between two types, direct contact type is better in collecting performance. On the other hand, Indirect type have advantage in maintenance. In the result of numerical analysis, As the temperature of heatpipe and flow rate of working fluid increased, difference of outlet mean temperature of two types became large. Also, it could be confirmed, as contact resistance between heatpipe and copper wall in indirect type increased, the difference increased too. Useful data in selection and design in vacuum tube type solar collector were proposed by the results of numerical analysis.

The accuracy-based lipid (ABL) proficiency testing (PT) program was started in 2016 by the Korean External Quality Assessment Service to minimize the matrix effect. We analyzed 3 years of the program. We made or purchased six kinds of commutable frozen sera based on the Clinical and Laboratory Standards Institute 37A guideline and distributed it in two rounds per year from 2016 to 2018. We obtained reference values for levels of total cholesterol (TC), high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDLC), low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDLC), total glycerides, and triglycerides in each fresh frozen pool at the reference-measurement laboratories. We evaluated the average percent bias of the participating laboratories based on the National Cholesterol Education Program (NCEP) bias limit. The number of participating laboratories evaluating TC, HDLC, LDLC, total glycerides, and triglycerides increased from 164 to 223, 163 to 223, 158 to 214, 98 to 139, and 61 to 82, respectively. The average percent bias of all participating laboratories for TC, HDLC, LDLC, total glycerides, and triglycerides was +0.14%, -0.54%, +2.9%, -1.08%, and -1.32%, respectively. The average percent bias exceeded the NCEP bias limit only once or twice for TC, HDLC, and total glycerides but frequently for LDLC (eight out of 18 pools). The manufacturer-specific bias estimation report seemed useful for traceability. Although the average percent bias of participating laboratories for TC, HDLC, LDLC, total glycerides, and triglycerides was mostly within the bias limit provided by NCEP, cases of bias limit exceeding the NCEP bias limit occurred occasionally, especially for LDLC during the 3 years of the ABL PT program in Korea, suggesting that ABL PT can be used to keep maintaining traceability.
Trend analysis of diabetic prevalence and incidence in a rural area of South Korea between 2003–2008
Jeong, Ji Yun,Kim, Jung‐,Guk,Kim, Bo‐,Wan,Moon, Seong Su,Kim, Hye‐,Soon,Park, Keun‐,Gyu,Won, Kyu Chang,Lee, Hyoung Woo,Yoon, Ji Sung,Shon, Ho‐,Sang,Lee, Ji Hyun,Jung, Eui Blackwell Publishing Ltd 2010 Journal of diabetes investigation Vol.1 No.5

Abstract

Aims/Introduction: This study determined the change in prevalence of diabetes and prediabetes over a period of 5 years in South Korea. The incidence of diabetes and prediabetes and risk factors associated with the development of diabetes were also investigated.

Materials and Methods: The Dalseong population‐based cohort survey recruited 1806 subjects who were over 20‐years‐old in 2003. Five years later, 1287 of the original subjects were re‐evaluated and 187 new subjects were added to the study. All participants completed a questionnaire, were given a physical examination, and provided blood samples for analysis including 2 h oral glucose tolerances.

Results: Age‐adjusted prevalence of diabetes rose from 6.7% in 2003 to 9.1% in 2008. The prevalence of prediabetes also increased from 18.5% in 2003 to 28.4% in 2008. The incidence rates of diabetes and prediabetes were 18.3 per 1000 person‐years and 55.4 per 1000 person‐years, respectively. The development of diabetes was associated with impaired fasting glucose (IFG) (odds ratio [OR] 5.661), impaired glucose tolerance (IGT) (OR: 6.013), age (OR 1.013), and waist‐to‐hip ratio (OR 1.513). After excluding the IFG and IGT, systolic blood pressure (OR 1.023), high‐sensitivity C‐reactive protein (hsCRP; OR 1.097), triglyceride (OR 1.002) and waist‐to‐hip ratio (OR 1.696) were statistically significant risk factors in a multivariate logistic regression analysis.

Conclusions: A significant rise in the prevalence of diabetes and prediabetes was observed between 2003 and 2008. In addition, this study newly demonstrated that waist‐to‐hip ratio and hsCRP were associated with the development of diabetes after adjusting for several confounding factors. (J Diabetes Invest, doi: 10.1111/j.2040‐1124.2010.00045.x, 2010)

Analysis of the Envelope (E) Protein Gene of Tick-Borne Encephalitis Viruses Isolated in South Korea
Yun, Seok-Min,Kim, Su-Yeon,Han, Myung Guk,Jeong, Young Eui,Yong, Tai-Soon,Lee, Chan-Hee,Ju, Young Ran Mary Ann Liebert 2009 Vector borne and zoonotic diseases Vol.9 No.3

We determined the nucleotide and deduced amino acid sequences of the complete envelope (E) protein gene of the five tick-borne encephalitis virus (TBEV) strains KrM 93, KrM 213, KrM 215, KrM 216, and KrM 219, isolated from wild rodents in South Korea. We analyzed genetic variability within the isolates and compared them with 13 other TBEV strains. The complete E protein genes were amplified by reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR), cloned into pGEM-T vectors, and sequenced. The five isolates were similar to the Western subtype in nucleotide and deduced amino acid sequences (97%-99% identity) and by phylogenetic analysis. The deduced amino acid alignments had 13 unique amino acids, as in the Western subtypes. Among the signature amino acids, those at positions 206 and 317 were unique to each subtype. We were also able to identify amino acid substitutions in each of the three domains when comparing the 5 Korean isolates with the 13 other TBEV strains. Thus, we confirmed that the 5 Korean isolates belong to the Western subtype. These data will provide useful information for the development of an effective recombinant vaccine.

Case Report : Novel LMNA Gene Mutation in a Patient With Atypical Werner`s Syndrome
Yun Jeong Doh,Hee Kyoung Kim,Eui Dal Jung,Seung Hee Choi,Jung Guk Kim,Bo Wan Kim,In Kyu Lee 대한내과학회 2009 The Korean Journal of Internal Medicine Vol.24 No.1
Hutchinson-Gilford progeria syndrome (HGPS) and Werner`s syndrome are representative types of progeroid syndrome. LMNA (Lamin A/C) gene mutation with atypical Werner`s syndrome have recently been reported. Atypical Werner`s syndrome with the severe metabolic complications, the extent of the lipodystrophy is associated with A133L mutation in the LMNA gene and these patients present with phenotypically heterogeneous disorders. We experienced a 15-yr-old Korean female with progeroid features, generalized lipodystrophy, hypertriglyceridemia, fatty liver, steatohepatitis, and type 2 diabetes mellitus. Skin fibroblasts from the patient showed marked abnormal nuclear morphology, compared with that from normal persons. Gene analysis revealed that this patient had T506del of exon 2 in the LMNA gene. We report here the first case of atypical Werner`s syndrome with frameshift mutation that was caused by T506del. (Korean J Intern Med 2009;24:68-72)
