        Damping-off and wilting diseases in sesame plant(Sesamum indicum L.) occurring severely in Korea have been studied for incidences of disease from seeds, diseased plants and soils. Alternaria longissima, A. tenuis, Aspergillus. spp, Cephalosporium sp., Cuvuaria lunata, Drechslera sp.,sp., Fusarium equiseti, F. moniliforme, F. semitectum, F. solani, Mucor sp., Myrothecium roridum Penicillium spp., Phoma sp., Rhizopus sp., were saprophytic fungi and Alternaria sesami, A. sesamicola, Macrophomina phaseolina, Rhizoctonia solani were pathogenic fungi detected from 66 seed samples of sesame. Initial symptoms caused by pathogenic fungi on seedlings from naturally infected seed by the test tube agar method have been described and discussed. Except Alternaria sesamicola, A. tenuis and Macrophomina phaseolina, all fungi were completey wiped out the infection by pretreatment with Benlate-T. The pathogenic fungi isolated from sesame soil were Fusarium oxysporum and Rhizoctonia solani. F.oxysporum occurred less frequently in upland rice and ground nut soils than in sesame soil, but R. solani not decreased by upland rice and ground nut soils. The differences of the isolation frequency of F.oxysporum and the incidence of the wilting plants were found among the fields which varied in their cropping histories. F.oxysporum isolated most frequently from stems and roots of wilting sesame plants followed by R. solani. Nematodes also isolated from the wilting sesame plants.

        The purpose of this study was to compare the characteristics, change in physique and physical function of college students majoring physical education and Taekwondo (454 males and 64 females of age groups ranging from 18 to 26). The results are as following: 1. The male group of 23yrs old in physical education showed highest values in 7 items(Weight, Chest Girth, Fore Arm Girth, Thigh Girth, Calf Girth, Scapular Skinfold Thickness and Suprailiac Skinfold Thickness). 2. In the Physical function, the male group of 18yrs old showed highest values in Power, Flexibility, and then 21yrs old at Back Strength, Vital Capacity, and 23yrs old at Grip Strength, and 25yrs old at Blood Pressure, respectively. 3. In the physique, the male group of 22yrs old showed highest values in Weight, Chest Girth, Thigh Girth, Calf Girth, and then 24yrs old Upper Arm Girth, Fore Arm Girth, and 19yrs old at Height, Upper Limb Length, respectively. 4. In Physical Function, the 22yrs old showed highest values in Back Strength, Vital Capacity, and then 23yrs old at Side Step, Trunk Extension, but 18yrs old showed lower Values in Grip Strength, Side Step, Vital Capacity and Blood Pressure. 5. The female group of 22yrs old showed highest values in 8 items(Height, Sitting Height, Waist Girth, Upper Limb Length, Lower Limb Length, Skinfold Thickness), and then 18yrs old at 5 items (Weight, Upper Arm Girth, Fore Arm Girth, Thigh Girth, Calf Girth), respectively. 6. In the physical function, the 22yrs old showed highest Values in Grip strength, Back Strength, Power, 5 Minute Run, and 18yrs old at flexibility, Harvard Step Test, respectively. 7. In the change of the physique for two years(1988-1989) in the male group, majoring Physical education the 22yrs old showed increase in 4 items, and the 20yrs old in 3 items, but 18yrs old showed decrease in 3 items. 8. In the change of the physical function for two years in the male group, the 20yrs old showed increase in 4 items, and the 21, 25, 26yrs old in 3 items, but the 19yrs old showed decrease in 6 items, and 18, 22 yrs old in 5 items, respectively. 9. The change of the physique for two years in all female group, of 18, 19, 20, 21yrs old showed increase in 11 items except Skinfold Thickness. 10. In the change of physical function for two years in female group, the 18yrs old showed increase in 3 items, and then 20yrs old in 5 items, but 19, 22yrs old decreased 12 items, respectively. 11. The highest significant difference in physique between male and female was found in weight(mean Value 17.5%), and the lowest difference was found Thigh Girth, Calf Girth(1,3%), Upper Limb Length, Lower Limb Length(2.5%). 12. The Highest difference in physical function was Strength (mean Value 40%), Vital Capacity (33%), Power(22%), but Lower Trunk Flexion, Foot Balance(3.4%). 13. In the difference of Physique and physical function between physical education major and taekwondo major, the physical education showed higher values in skinfold Thickines (mean Value 16.5%), Weight, Waist Girth(4.7%) and Strength(33%), Endurance(5.6%), but subjects majoring Taekwondo showed higher values in Flexibility and Foot Balance. 14. In all male groups, Waist Girth, Scapular Skinfold Thickness, Back Strength, Sargent Jump, Trunk Extension and Diastolic Blood Pressure were showed a significantly related at 0.001 level.

        데페록사민 전처치가 토끼 심근경색 크기의 감소에 미치는 효과

        Background: Reperfusion of ischemic myocardium has been postulated to result in a specific oxygen radical mediated tissue injury. Iron may liberate during ischemia and we hypothesized that administration of the iron chelator, deferoxamine during ischemia would result in improved recovery after postischemic reperfusion. Purpose: To test whether iron-catalyzed processes contribute to myocardial necrosis during ischemia and reperfusion, deferoxamine was administered to block iron catalyzed hydroxyl radical formation in rabbits. Methods: Eleven rabbits were divided into two groups : control group (n=5) and deferoxamine pretreatment group (n=6). The left circumflex coronay artery was ligated for 30 minutes and reperfused for 180 minutes. Area at risk (AR) was measured by non-stained area with methylene blue injection into left atrium after left circumflex coronary artery ligation. Infarct size was measured by weighing after triphenyltetrazolium chloride staining. Heart rate was measured using electrocardiographic recording and systemic blood pressure was monitored by pressure transducer connected to the catheter in the left ventricle. Results: 1. There was no significant difference of heart rate and blood pressure in deferoxamine pretreatment group compared with control group. 2. There was significant decrease of serum iron concentration after continuous infusion of deferoxamine compared with serum iron concentration before ligation of coronary artery(P<0.05). 3. There was no significant difference of area at risk between control and deferoxamine pretreatment group. 4. Area at necrosis to area at risk was significantly reduced in deferoxamine pretreatment group compared with control group(P<0.05). The results suggest that deferoxamine infusion prior to coronary artery occlusion has a significant benefit in reducing infarct size in this model.

        Inhibition of Inducible Nitric Oxide Synthase and Cyclooxygenase-2 by Gamijihwang-tang Via Suppression of Nuclear Factor-B Activation in RAW 264.7 cells

        Asthma is recognized today as an inflammatory disease of the lung characterized by acute non-specific airway hypersensitiveness in association with chronic pulmonary inflammation. Gamijihwang-tang(GJT), a fortified prescription of YMJHT, is applied for the treatments of chronic coughing and asthma, and post-delivery coughing and asthma in the gynecology. Also in the clinical practice, GJT is known to be very effective for controlling coughing and asthma as a cold sequoia. In this study, we investigated the effects of GJT on the lipopolysaccharide (LPS)-induced nitric oxide (NO) and prostaglandin $E_2$ ($PGE_2$) production, and on the level of inducible nitric oxide synthase (iNOS) and Cyclooxygenase-2 expression in murine macrophage RAW 264.7 cells. We found that GJT inhibited LPS-induced NO and $PGE_2$ production in a dose dependent manner. Furthermore, GJT inhibited the expression of LPS-induced iNOS and COX-2 protein and mRNA expression in RAW 264.7 macrophages. Treatment with GJT of RAW 264.7 cells transfected with a reporter construct indicated a reduced level of LPS-induced nuclear factor-KB (NF-kB) activity and effectively lowered NF-kB binding as measured by transient transfection assay. These results suggest that the main inhibitory mechanism of the GJT may be the reduction of iNOS and COX-2 gene expression through blocking of NF-kB activation.

        Effect of spray process conditions on uniformity of carbon nanotube thin films.

        <P>Industrial use of carbon nanotube (CNT) films is increasing rapidly due to their good physical properties and high economic feasibility. Spray coating process is one of feasible approaches for large area CNT films. Uniform spray coating is an important issue in applications requiring large area conductive films. In the present work, we developed a numerical model for the prediction of CNT deposition thickness distribution in the spray process and validated the numerical work by using experimental data obtained in this study. We investigated the deposition thickness distributions according to various process parameters by using the numerical model. We found that the pitch of the nozzle path is a key parameter affecting the deposition thickness uniformity and that there is optimal pitch value for unfirom and productive coating. We also discussed future research direction for improved numerical simulation tool. Since the present numerical model is also applicable to simulation of spray process on curvy substrate, the numerical model could be an imporatnt step toward a powerful simulation tool for design and optimization of the nanomaterial spray process.</P>

      • The RMS Current Stress Reduction Technique in Link Capacitor of Two-stage AC/DC Converter

        The RMS (Root Mean Square) current reduction technique for the link capacitor of two-stage PFC (power factor correction) AC/DC converter is proposed. Although there exist various factors for optimizing the link capacitor, the RMS current stress is one of the most important factors to determine the capacitor size. To reduce the RMS current of the link capacitor, the main concept of the proposed method is by adding the small C-L-L-C filter around the link capacitor. Namely, the front C-L filter and rear L-C filter of proposed C-L-L-C filter can effectively reduce the RMS currents entering into and coming out of the link capacitor by filtering out the switching current components, respectively. Especially, since the crossover frequency of proposed filter is very far from that of the PFC converter, the proposed filter has hardly any effect on the dynamics of the AC/DC converter and thus, makes it easy to design the overall system controller. To confirm the validity of proposed filter, the theoretical analysis, design considerations, and experimental verification are presented.

      • Nanostructured Metal/Carbon Hybrids for Electrocatalysis by Direct Carbonization of Inverse Micelle Multilayers

        <P>A synthetic strategy for the fabrication of graphitic carbon nanomaterials containing highly dispersed arrays of metal nanoparticles is reported. This synthetic strategy involves successive deposition of inverse micelle monolayers containing a metal precursor and reduction of the latter, followed by direct carbonization of the obtained multilayer structure of inverse micelles containing metal nanoparticles. Thus, a “direct-carbonization” concept, in which the block copolymer simultaneously serves as soft template and as carbon source, was combined with a multilayer buildup protocol. The inner architecture of the multilayer structures consisting of carbon and metal nanoparticles was studied by X-ray reflectivity, grazing incidence small-angle X-ray scattering, and cross-sectional transmission electron microscopy imaging. The hexagonal near ordering of the metal nanoparticles in the block copolymer micelle multilayers was by and large conserved after carbonization. The resulting carbon structures containing multilayers of highly dispersed metal nanoparticles exhibit superior electrocatalytic activity in formic acid and methanol oxidation, suggesting that they are promising electrode materials for fuel cells.</P><P><B>Graphic Abstract</B> <IMG SRC='http://pubs.acs.org/appl/literatum/publisher/achs/journals/content/ancac3/2013/ancac3.2013.7.issue-2/nn3056115/production/images/medium/nn-2012-056115_0012.gif'></P><P><A href='http://pubs.acs.org/doi/suppl/10.1021/nn3056115'>ACS Electronic Supporting Info</A></P>
