        The Phase-Shift Method for the Langmuir Adsorption Isotherms of Electroadsorbed Hydrogens for the Cathodic H<sub>2</sub> Evolution Reactions at the Poly-Pt Electrode Interfaces

        순환전압전류 및 교류임피던스 기법을 이용하여 다결정 Pt/0.5M $H_2SO_4$ 및 0.5M LiOH수용액 계면에서 저전위 수소흡착(UPD H) 과 전위 수소흡착(OPD H)에 관한 Langmuir 흡착등온식 $({\theta}\;vs.\;E)$ 을 연구조사 하였다. 계면에서 치적중간주파수일 때 위상이동$(0^{\circ}{\leq}{-\phi}{\leq}90^{\circ})$ 거동은 표면피복율$(1{\geq}{\theta}{\geq}0)$ 거동에 정확하게 상응한다. 위상이 동 방법 즉 최적중간주파수일 때 위상이동 변화$({-\phi}\;vs.\;E)$는 계면에서 음극 $H_2$ 발생 반응에 관한 UPD H와 OPDH의 Langmuir흡착등온식을 결정할 수 있는 새로운 전기화학적 방법으로 사용할 수 있다 다결정 Pt/0.5M $H_2SO_4$ 수용액 계면에서 OPD H의 흡착평형상수(K)와 표준자유에너지$({\Delta}G_{ads})$는 각각 $2.1\times10^{-4}$와 21.0kJ/mol 이다. 다결정 Pt/0.5M LiOH 수용액 계면에서 K는 음전위(E)에 따라 2.7 (UPD H)에서 $6.2\times10^{-6}$ (OPD H) 또는 $6.2\times10^{-6}$(OPD H)에서 2.7 (UPD H)로 전이한다. 유사하게 ${\Delta}G_{ads}$는 E에 따라 -2.5kJ/mol (UPD H)에서 29.7kJ/mol (OPD H)또는 29.7kJ/mol (OPD H)에서 -2.5kJ/mol (UPD H)로 전이한다. K와 ${\Delta}G_{ads}$의 전이는 다결정 Pt전극 표면의 상이한 UPD H와 OPD H의 흡착부위에 기인한다. 다결정 Pt전극 계면에서 UPD H와 OPD H는 음극 $H_2$ 발생 반응에 따른 순차적 과정이 아니라, 수소 흡착부위 자체에 따른 독립적 과정이다. UPD H와 OPD H의 기준은 음극 $H_2$발생 반응과 전위가 아니라, 수소 흡착부위와 과정이다. 수용액에서 음극 $H_2$발생 반응에는 다결정 Pt선 전극이 단결정 Pt(100)원반 전극보다 더 효율적이고 유용하다 위상이동 방법은 열역학적 방법과 상충적이 아니라, 보완적이다. The Langmuir adsorption isotherms of the under-potentially deposited hydrogen (UPD H) and the over-potentially deposited hydrogen (OPD H) at the poly-Pt/0.5M $H_2SO_4$ and 0.5 M LiOH aqueous electrolyte interfaces have been studied using cyclic voltammetric and ac impedance techniques. The behavior of the phase shift $(0^{\circ}{\leq}{-\phi}{\leq}90^{\circ})$ for the optimum intermediate frequency corresponds well to that of the fractional surface coverage $(1{\geq}{\theta}{\geq}0)$ at the interfaces. The phase-shift method, i.e., the phase-shift profile $({-\phi}\;vs.\;E)$ for the optimum intermediate frequency, can be used as a new electrochemical method to determine the Langmuir adsorption isotherms $({\theta}\;vs.\;E)$ of the UPD H and the OPD H for the cathodic $H_2$ evolution reactions at the interfaces. At the poly-Pt/0.5M $H_2SO_4$ aqueous electrolyte interface, the equilibrium constant (K) and the standard free energy $({\Delta}G_{ads})$ of the OPD H are $2.1\times10^{-4}$ and 21.0kJ/mol, respectively. At the poly-Pt/0.5M LiOH aqueous electrolyte interface, K transits from 2.7(UPD H) to $6.2\times10^{-6}$ (OPD H) depending on the cathode potential (E) and vice versa. Similarly, ${\Delta}G_{ads}$ transits from -2.5kJ/mol (UPD H) to 29.7kJ/mol (OPD H) depending on I and vice versa. The transition of K and ${\Delta}G_{ads}$ is attributed to the two distinct adsorption sites of the UPD H and the OPD H on the poly-Pt surface. The UPD H and the OPD H on the poly-Pt surface are the independent processes depending on the H adsorption sites themselves rather than the sequential processes for the cathodic $H_2$ evolution reactions. The criterion of the UPD H and the OPD H is the H adsorption sites and processes rather than the $H_2$ evolution reactions and potentials. The poly-Pt wire electrode is more efficient and useful than the Pt(100) disc electrode for the cathodic $H_2$ evolution reactions in the aqueous electrolytes. The phase-shift method is well complementary to the thermodynamic method rather than conflicting.

        The Langmuir adsorption isotherms of the over-potentially deposited hydrogen (OPD H) fur the cathodic $H_2$ evolution reaction (HER) at the poly-Au and $Rh|0.5M\;H_2SO_4$ aqueous electrolyte interfaces have been studied using cyclic voltammetric and ac impedance techniques. The behavior of the phase shift $(0^{\circ}{\leq}{-\phi}{\leq}90^{\circ})$ for the optimum intermediate frequency corresponds well to that of the fractional surface coverage $(1{\geq}{\theta}{\geq}0)$ at the interfaces. The phase-shift profile $({-\phi}\;vs.\;E)$ for the optimum intermediate frequency, i.e., the phase-shift method, can be used as a new electrochemical method to determine the Langmuir adsorption isotherm $({\theta}\;vs.\;E)$ of the OPD H for the cathodic HER at the interfaces. At the poly-Au|0.5M $H_2SO_4$ aqueous electrolyte interface, the equilibrium constant (K) and the standard free energy $({\Delta}G_{ads})$ of the OPD H are $2.3\times10^{-6}$ and 32.2kJ/mol, respectively. At the poly-Rh|0.5M $H_2SO_4$ aqueous electrolyte interface, K and ${\Delta}G_{ads}$ of the OPD H are $4.1\times10^4\;or\;1.2\times10^{-2}$ and 19.3 or 11.0kJ/mol depending on E, respectively. In contrast to the poly-Au electrode interface, the two different Langmuir adsorption isotherms of the OPD H are observed at the poly-Rh electrode interface. The two different Langmuir adsorption isotherms of the OPD H correspond to the two different adsorption sites of the OPD H on the poly-Rh electrode surface.

        한국에서 지역에 따른 Helicobacter pylori 균주 내성

        Background/Aims: This study was performed to compare the prevalence rates of primary antibiotic resistance in Helicobacter pylori (H. pylori) isolates among different regions of Korea. Methods: H. pylori were isolated from gastric mucosal biopsy specimens of 99 Koreans who lived in Gyeonggi (n=40), Kangwon province (n=40) and Busan (n=19) from April to August in 2008. All the patients had no history of H. pylori eradication therapy. The susceptibilities of the H. pylori isolates to amoxicillin, clarithromycin, metronidazole, tetracycline, azithromycin, ciprofloxacin, levofloxacin, and moxifloxacin were tested according to the agar dilution method. Results: There was a difference in resistance to clarithromycin in three institutes located among Gyeonggi (32.5%), Kangwon province (12.5%) and Busan (42.1%) by One way ANOVA test (p=0.027) and nonparametric Kruskal Wallis test (p=0.027). However, by post-hoc analysis, there was no statistically significant difference among three regions. Similarly, the other 7 antibiotics (amoxicillin, metronidazole, tetracycline, azithromycin, ciprofloxacin, levofloxacin and moxifloxacin) did not show any significant difference. Conclusions: There was no significant regional difference of the primary antibiotic resistance of H. pylori. However, the included patient number might not be enough for this conclusion demanding further evaluations. (Korean J Gastroenterol 2011;57:221-229)

        Listeriosis and Listeria monocytogenes

        Listeria monocytogenes, one of five species in the genus Listeria and the only one currently believed to be pathogenic for humans, is a small gram-positive, nonsporeforming, aerobic, motile and hemolytic rod-shaped bacterium. The bacterium is widespread in the environment, having been isolated from soil, dust, animal fee, water, sewage, almost every type of animal that has been cultured, and asymptomatic humans. L. monocytogenes causes listeriosis, a disease which most often affects humans with a compromised immune system. Included are pregnant woman, infants and adults suffering from such diseases as cancer, cirrhosis of liver of AIDS or are being treated with drugs such as corticosteroids. Listeriosis is manifested by such syndromes as pregnancy infections, granulomatosis infantiseptica, sepsis, meningoencephalitis, and focal infections. Infections, can be treated successfully with penicillin, ampicillin, or erythromycin. However, a mortality rate of about 30% has occurred in outbreaks of listeriosis. Food-associated outbreaks of listeriosis have been attributed to coleslaw (Canada, 1981), pasteurized milk (U.S., 1983), and soft cheese (U.S., 1985). Presence of L. monocytogenes in various dairy foods has prompted recall of such products from the U.S. market-place. L. monocytogenes also has been found in raw meats and seafood.

        시뮬레이션과 유전 알고리즘의 하이브리드 기법을 이용한 정보시스템 용량 산정 및 선택 방안

        The purpose of this paper is to develop a new method for information system sizing and selection based on a hybrid mixture of simulation and genetic algorithm, and to show its cost-effectiveness by applying it to a real world problem. To serve this purpose, we propose an operational model which identifies a set of system alternatives using simulation, and determines the optimal one using genetic algorithm. Specifically, with simulation, we generate probability distributions describing real data gathered from actual system, which can overcome the major weakness of the existing methodology that normally employs point estimates of the actual data and constant correction factors without theoretical rationale. We next search for the optimal combination of H/W, the number of CPUs, and S/W, which meets both of our business goals of incurring low TCO (total cost of ownership) and maintaining a good level of transaction processing performance. Experimental result shows the proposed method in this paper saves the cost while it preserves the system's capacity within allowable performance range.

        Atomic Layer Deposition of TiO<sub>2</sub> Thin Films from Ti(O<sup>i</sup>Pr)<sub>2</sub>(dmae)<sub>2</sub> and H<sub>2</sub>O

        $TiO_2$ thin films were grown on Si (100) substrates by atomic layer deposition using $[Ti(OPr^i )_2(dmae)_2]$ and water as precursors. The thickness, chemical composition, crystalline structure, and morphology of the deposited films were investigated by transmission electron microscopy, UV spectrometry, X-ray photoelectron pectroscopy, X-ray diffraction, and atomic force microscopy. The results show that $TiO_2$ ALD using $[Ti(OPr^i )_2(dmae)_2]$ as a precursor is self-controlled at temperatures of 100-300$^{\circ}C$. At the growth temperatures below 300$^{\circ}C$, the surface morphology of the $TiO_2$ films is smooth and uniform. The $TiO_2$ film was grown with a preferred orientation toward the [101] direction at 400$^{\circ}C$.

        A Study on Die Wear Model of Warm and Hot Forgings

        Factors influencing service lives of tools in warm and hot forging processes are wear, mechanical fatigue, plastic deformation and thermal fatigue, etc. Wear is the predominant factor for tool failure among these. To predict tool life by wear, Archard's model where hardness is considered as constant or function of temperature is generally applied. Usually hardness of die is a function of not only temperature but operating time of die. To consider softening of die by repeated operation it is necessary to express hardness of die by a function of temperature and time. In this study wear coefficients were measured for various temperatures and heat treatment for H13 tool steel. Also by experiment of reheating of die, die softening curves were obtained. From experimental results, relationships between tempering parameters and hardness were established to investigate effects of hardness decrease by the effect of temperatures and time. Finally modified Archard's wear model in which hardness is considered to be a function of main tempering curve was proposed. And finite element analyses were conducted by adopting suggested wear model. By comparisons of simulations and real profiles of worn die, proposed wear model was verified.

        TEOS 의 부분가수분해에 의한 실리카 졸의 합성과 유리섬유 제조

        본 연구는 [H₂O]/[TEOS]=1.7에서 산촉매를 첨가한 부분가수분해를 행하여 졸을 합성하였다. 최적의 방사성을 갖는 졸을 결정하기 위하여 부분가수분해에 의하여 합성된 졸을 trimethylsilylation하여 안정화시킨 후에 반응시간에 따르는 분자량과 점도의 변화를 관찰하였다. 최적조건하에서 제조된 졸용액에서 용매를 제거한 후 겔섬유를 제조하였고 이를 1,000℃에서 열처리하여 실리카섬유를 제조하였다. 제조된 섬유는 단면적이 원형이며 인장강도는 83±20kg/mm²이었고, 순도는 약 99.997%이었다. At the ratio [H₂O]/[TEOS]=1.7, the silica sol was synthesized by partial hydrolysis in the presence of acid catalyst. After stabilizing the silica sol by trimethylsilylation, the molecular weight and viscosity of the sol obtained at various reaction times were examined to determine a best spinnability of the sol. Gel fibers were prepared from the sol solution after removing solvent in the solution, and the gel fibers were heated at 1,000℃. The prepared silica fibers were in the shape of circular cross-section and their tensile strength and SiO_2 purity were 83±20kg/mm₂and about 99.997%, respectively.
