Because elderly individuals are participitating in social work as adult inspite of their physical handicapes such as hearing difficulty, visual difficulty and limit of motion, they are continually exposed to the risk of injury. Trauma is now fifth cause of death in elderly of over 65 years old, and the elderly suffer disproportionately high injury-related motality comparing with younger adults. In addition, sometimes elderly patients don`t complaint of pain on injured site because of high threshold to pain. We studied about occurence of neglected injury due to high threshold to pain in geriatric trauma patients. When we diagnosised injury that patients did not complaint of pain on injured site through physical examination and radiologic examination, we defined that as neglected injury. There were 8 (8%) geriatric patients who didn`t complaint of pain on injured site on admission to emergency center, but only 0.7% of adult patients had neglected injury. The severity was estimated by use of AIS(Abbreviated Injury Scale), and the severity of all neglected injuries were above AIS 2 point. The neglected injury were head injuries(4 in number), abdominal injury(1), pelvic injuries(2) and extremity injury(1). So if geriatric trauma patients were admitted to emergency center, we recommand full physical and radiological examinations although patients don`t complaint of pain.
위암세포주에서 Recombinant Human Interferon-r와 Adriamycin의 투여순서가 항암효과에 미치는 영향

Numerous previous studies, both in vitro and in vivo, have demonstrated that the cytotoxicity can be enhanced by the combination of chemotherapeutic agent and interferons(IFNs) in various types of cancer cells. We have previously reported that combined treatment of MKN-45, human gastric adenocarcinoma cells, with adriamycin(ADM) and recombinant human interferon-r(rh-IFN-r) increased in the cytotoxicity. In this study, the effects of combination timing of rh-IFN-r and ADM on the cytotoxicity against MKN-45 were investigated using MTT assay. MKN-45 was treated with rh-IFN-r and ADM in vitro on three schedules : Treat A ; rh-IFN-r and ADM were treated simultaneously, Treat B ; rh-IFN-r was treated 24 hours after the treatment with ADM, Treat C ; rh-IFN-r was treated for 72 hours and followed by the treatment with ADM. The survival of MKN -45 was inhibited by ADM dose-dependently. 102 and 103U/ml of rh-IFN-r significantly inhibited the survival of MKN-45(% survival : 35.1 ±-1.2% and 34.4 ±1.1% in Treat A and 42.5 ± 2.1% and 45.9-±2.5% in Treat C, respectively). However no difference in the survival was observed between 102 and 103U/ml of rh-IFN-r. Combined treatment with rh-IFN-r and ADM significantly augmented the cytotoxicity at low concentrations of ADM. Combined effects of rh-IFN-r and ADM were evaluated using IC30(,ag/ml) to ADM. IC30s of MKN-45 in Treat A, B and C at 102 U/ml of rh -IFN-r _ were 0.019 -?- 0.003, 0.045 :I:0.001 and 0.054 ± 0.012, respectively, while IC30 of MKN-45 treated with ADM alone was 0.052±0.004. IC30s of MKN-45 in ADM alone group, Treat A, Treat B and Treat C at 103U/ml of rh-IFN-r were 0.047 ±0.003, 0.004 -±0.001, 0.031 ±0.004 and 0.056 0.008, respectively. These results indicate IC30s of Treat A and B were significantly lower than those of ADM alone(p<0.05) and IC30s of Treat A was significantly lower than those of Treat B(p <0.01). IC30s of Treat C, however, were not different from those of ADM alone. From these results demonstrating that cytotoxic effects were increased by the combination of rh-IFN-r and ADM in the order, Treat A > Treat B> Treat C, it can be concluded that the simultaneous administration of rh-IFN-r and ADM may be the most effective method to combine these two therapeutic modalties.

VGG-based BAPL Score Classification of 18F-Florbetaben Amyloid Brain PET

Amyloid brain positron emission tomography (PET) images are visually and subjectively analyzed by the physician with a lot of time and effort to determine the β-Amyloid (Aβ) deposition. We designed a convolutional neural network (CNN) model that predicts the Aβ-positive and Aβ-negative status. We performed 18F-florbetaben (FBB) brain PET on controls and patients (n=176) with mild cognitive impairment and Alzheimer"s Disease (AD). We classified brain PET images visually as per the on the brain amyloid plaque load score. We designed the visual geometry group (VGG16) model for the visual assessment of slice-based samples. To evaluate only the gray matter and not the white matter, gray matter masking (GMM) was applied to the slice-based standard samples. All the performance metrics were higher with GMM than without GMM (accuracy 92.39 vs. 89.60, sensitivity 87.93 vs. 85.76, and specificity 98.94 vs. 95.32). For the patientbased standard, all the performance metrics were almost the same (accuracy 89.78 vs. 89.21), lower (sensitivity 93.97 vs. 99.14), and higher (specificity 81.67 vs. 70.00). The area under curve with the VGG16 model that observed the gray matter region only was slightly higher than the model that observed the whole brain for both slice-based and patient-based decision processes. Amyloid brain PET images can be appropriately analyzed using the CNN model for predicting the Aβ-positive and Aβ-negative status.

Daily shedding pattern and longevity of pollen are important consideration for the evaluation of gene flow of transgenic plants. During the day, the pollen shedding pattern of zoysiagrass was determined in the lawn by using a device to collect airborne pollen on a glass slide, resulting that the pollen grains were released predominantly between 7:00 and 9:00. The result was also supported by in vitro pollen germination test, which was performed with pollens collected from 1:00 through 24:00 at 1h interval. Influence of temperature and humidity on pollen longevity was determined by germinating pollen at 25°C after incubating them for 10, 30, 60, and 180 min under different temperatures and humidity with pollen of zoysiagrass that opened freshly at about 9:00. The result showed that pollen longevity of zoysiagrass was sensitive to change of temperature and humidity and longest under the temperture and humidity of 15-20°C and 80-99%, respectively. Under natural conditions with the same method as upper controlled conditions, was determined pollen longevity. Under sunny atmospheric conditions, pollen longevity decreased to 20% in 60 min, with a complete extinction in 120 min. Under cloudy atmospheric conditions, pollen remained viable up to 450 min, with about 20% longevity after 360 min. No significant difference was found between GM and non-GM plants in their pollen longevity.
Efficacy of Initial Treatment with Clevudine in Naive Patients with Chronic Hepatitis B

Background/Aims: Clevudine, a pyrimidine nucleoside analogue, has potent antiviral effects in patients with chronic viral hepatitis B (CHB). We report the efficacy of initial treatment with clevudine in naive patients with CHB living in Daejeon and Chungcheong Province, South Korea. Methods: One hundred five adults with CHB were administered 30 mg of clevudine per day for an average of 51 weeks. We evaluated viral markers and liver biochemistry retrospectively every 3 months. Results: Alanine aminotransferase (ALT), aspartate aminotransferase (AST), and hepatitis B virus (HBV) DNA before the treatment were 184 ± 188 IU/L, 150 ± 138 IU/L, and 7.1 ± 1.2 log copies/mL, respectively. Undetectable rates (< 60 IU/mL) of DNA were 36.2%, 68.9%, 83.6%, 76.2%, and 75.8% at 12, 24, 36, 48, and 60 weeks, respectively. Seroconversion rates were 9.1%, 13.6%, 24.6%, 26.5%, and 26.1% and ALT normalization rates were 64.5%, 78.1%, 87.9%, 90.0% at 12, 24, 36, and 48 weeks, respectively. Six patients (5.7%) had a viral breakthrough. Conclusions: Clevudine is a useful drug in the initial treatment of patients with CHB, with a potent antiviral effect and low incidence of viral breakthrough. (Korean J Intern Med 2010;25:372-376)

The races of rice blast fungi are classified by disease reactions on the differential set of cultivars of rice. These race-cultivar interactions were tested in a single cell level of suspension culture system. The calli were induced from seeds of differential cultivars; Tetep, Kanto51, Nongbaeg, Donghae, Chcueong, and Nagdong, and then transferred into a liquid suspension culture medium. The conidia of rice blast fungus race KJ101 and KJ301 were inoculated directly onto suspension calli and viability were checked and quantified using TTC (2,3,5-triphenyl tetrazolium chloride) staining method. Cell death was observed 3 days after inoculation in susceptible cultivar, Nagdong. The disease reactions turned out to be operated in a single cell level of suspension culture even more elaborately to those of intact plant.
Evaluation of Dual-channel Compound Method for EBT3 Film Dosimetry

This study assessed the feasibility of a dual-channel (DC) compound method for film dosimetry. The red channel (RC) is usually used to ensure dosimetric quality using a conventional fraction dose because the RC is more accurate at low doses within 3 Gy than is the green channel (GC). However, the RC is prone to rapid degradation of sensitivity at high doses, while degradation of the GC is slow. In this study, the DC compound method combining the RC and GC was explored as a means of providing accurate film dosimetry for high doses. The DC compound method was evaluated at various dose distributions using EBT3 film inserted in a solid-water phantom. Measurements with $10{\times}20cm^2$ radiation field and $60^{\circ}$ dynamic-wedge were done. Dose distributions acquired using the RC and GC were analyzed with root-mean-squares-error (RMSE) and gamma analyses. The DC compound method was used based on the RC after correcting the GC for high doses in the gamma analysis. The RC and GC produced comparatively more accurate RMSE values for low and high doses, respectively. Gamma passing rates with an acceptance criterion of 3%/3 mm revealed that the RC provided rapid reduction in the high dose region, while the GC displayed a gradual decrease. In the whole dose range, the DC compound method had the highest agreement (93%) compared with single channel method using either the RC (80%) or GC (85%). The findings indicate that the use of DC compound method is more appropriate in dosimetric quality assurance for radiotherapy using high doses.
