Synthesis and characterization of Pb10-xCux(PO4)6O polycrystalline samples

Lee, Kim, et al. reported in July 2023 that a modified lead apatite material, Pb10-xCux(PO4)6O (0.9 < x < 1.1), exhibited superconductivity at room temperature and atmospheric pressure [1, 2]. However, their X-ray diffraction data clearly showed the presence of impurity phases, including Cu2S, raising uncertainty about the sample quality. Subsequent studies have been conducted; however, different samples exhibited various physical properties. To verify the recipe for the sample growth process, we synthesized samples following the methodology outlined in the reference [1, 2]. An analysis of the structure and physical properties of the synthesized sample reaffirms the critical importance of high-quality sample growth.
방법론적 맹신에 대한 도전 - 사회과학 연구방법론의 규격성에 대한 현상학적 비판 -

본 논문은 점차 규격화 되어가는 사회과학연구방법론을 현상학의 입장에서 비판하고자 하는 시도이다. 이를 위해 본 연구는 양적 연구 방법론에서의 기초 방법론인 요인 분석을 비판한다. 또한 양적방법이 갖는 한계를 극복하기 위한 시도로서의 질적 연구 방법론도 방법론적 틀에 대한 맹신으로 인해 결국 규격화된다는 점에서 한계가 있다는 점을 지적한다. 본 논문은 현대의 사회과학 연구 방법론이 가지고 있는 방법론적 맹신이후설과 파이어아벤트가 지적했던 학문의 위기와 맞닿아 있다는 점을 강조하고, 현상학이 갖는 학문이론적 특성이 이러한 상황을 해결하기 위한 하나의 방편이 된다는 점을 보일 것이다. 이를 통해 세계 형성자로서의 연구자들이 적극적으로 방법론에 도전해야 한다는 것을 주장할 것이다. This paper attempts to criticize social research methodologies with regard to its standardization from the perspective of phenomenology. To achieve this, the paper analyzes and criticizes factor analysis on which quantitative research is made. Besides, qualitative research through which researchers try to overcome the limit of quantitative research is proven to have its limitation of being standardized, which results from its blind acceptance of methodology. This paper suggests that blind adoption of methodology is related to the crisis of science and that the character of phenomenology as die Wissenschaftslehre (the Science of Knowledge) can serve as a way to cope with the academic crisis. Therefore, the paper concludes that researchers as the world-builders must challenge against the methodology.
원형 안테나 배열의 위상 차이 분포 특성을 활용한 코드벡터 결정 방식 및 성능 평가

현재 사용 중인 이동 통신 시스템에서는 주파수 효율을 높이기 위한 주요한 방법으로 다중 입출력 송수신 (multiple-input multiple-output; MIMO) 전송 기술을 사용하고 있다. MIMO 전송 시 채널의 추정을 통한 정확한 빔포밍의 수행은 수신 신호의 신호 대 간섭 및 잡음 비 (signal-to-interference-plus-noise ratio; SINR) 증가와 시스템의 성능 향상에 기여하며, 따라서 빔포밍 벡터와 이를 정의하는 코드북 설계에 관한 논의는 매우 중요하다. 본 논문에서는 균일 원형 배열 (uniform circular array; UCA) 구조 환경에 적합한 코드북을 제안하기 위해 인접 안테나 간 채널의 위상 차이를 통계적으로 분석한 후, 확률 밀도 함수의 분포에서 나타난 위상의 이동 정도를 보상하기 위해 새로운 매개 변수를 추가하는 방법을 사용한다. 제안 코드북은 공간채널모델 환경에서 성능 평가를 진행하여 기존의 LTE (long term evolution) Release 8과 Release 10에서 제시한 표준 코드북 대비 큰 폭의 성능 이득을 보임을 확인한다. Current mobile communication systems utilize the multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) transmission technique as an important means to enhance the bandwidth efficiency. Accurate beamforming via channel estimation contributes to the signal-to-interference-plus-noise ratio (SINR) increase and the system performance improvement when MIMO transmission techniques are employed. Therefore, determination of beamforming vectors as well as the design of appropriate codebooks defining these codevectors play an important role in system operation. In this paper, we statistically analyze the phase difference between the channels corresponding to adjacent antenna elements in order to design an efficient codebook for uniform circular arrays (UCAs). We introduce new parameters which compensate for the additional phase difference observed in its probability density functions (PDFs). The performance of the proposed codebook is tested using the spatial channel model (SCM) to demonstrate its gain over the standard codebooks adopted in the long term evolution (LTE) Releases 8 and 10.

The skeletal system completes as the body grows, especially bone mass, which is mostly formed during puberty. Osteoporosis develops as lose the balance of bone formation and bone resorption processes due to the loss of bone mass. Therefore, it is very important to maintain the balance of bone formation and bone resorption processes and form ‘good-quality’ bones through proper nutrient intake from adolescence. In this study, it was confirmed whether organic whole milk powder (OWMP) and colostrum basic protein (CBP) were effective for skeletal growth. Individual effects and interaction effects of OWMP and CBP were confirmed in ovariectomzed rat model. The experimental diet was designed so that total calories, protein content, and fat-derived calories were even. CBP and OWMP were included in the diet at 0.1% and 10%, respectively. To confirm the skeletal growth efficacy of organic whole milk powder (OWMP) and colostrum protein (CBP), bone parameters were evaluated by microCT, and bone serum parameters were evaluated by measuring blood Ca and P concentrations. Osteoblast-osteoclast related factors in serum were also identified toi confirm the effect.
Status of the Development of OECD Test Method Detecting EDCs

Endocrine Disrupting Chemicals (EDCs) are chemicals that interfere with endocrine function. These ‘disruptions’ can sometimes cause devastating problems such as attention deficit disorder, breast cancer, prostate cancer, thyroid cancer, feminizing men in men, or virilizing effects in women. Based on the need for the management of EDCs, the OECD Advisory Group on Endocrine Substance Testing and Evaluation discussed the development and update of test guidelines and related documents for Endocrine Substance Testing and Evaluation. Certain OECD test guidelines using laboratory animals already addressed toxicity to the hormonal system. However, with increasing awareness of animal welfare, the OECD strongly recommends supporting the development of non-animal test applicable to the screening and evaluation of EDCs. Various alternative animal test methods have been established as OECD-approved test methods (so called Test Guidelines), and Korea is also making great efforts. In this session, the OECD accreditation process and the current status of test method development will be discussed.
