We investigated a nematode infection in the epithelial tissue of rockfish Sebastes schlegeli cultured in Cheonsu Bay, western Korea, from May 2013 to April 2014. Nematodes infected the epithelial tissues of various external organs, including the fins, operculum, nares, mouth, and head. Over a 1-year period, the overall nematode infection rate in rockfish was 55% (n=89/163): 56.7% (n=17/30) in May 2013, 88% (n=29/33) in August 2013, 0% (n=0/30) in October 2013, 70% (n=21/30) in January 2014, and 55% (n=22/40) in April 2014. During this study, the only massmortality of cultured rockfish in Cheonsu Bay was in August 2013, when we identified skin wounds on the rockfish caused by the nematodes escaping from their hosts. During this period, the accumulated mortality for 2 weeks was1.4-22.4% in different farms. In addition, several pathogenic bacteria (Photo bacterium damselae, Vibrio spp., and Streptococcus iniae) were isolated from the moribund rockfish; these were thought to be transmitted through the skin wounds caused by the nematodes.
양식 가숭어(Chelon haematocheilus)에서 최초로 분리된 갈고리벌레과 Cymothoids의 특성 연구

Mullet is an important marine aquaculture fish species in Korea, with a total of 7,237 tons produced as of 2022, making it the 5th most produced marine aquaculture fish species. In this study, ectoparasites presumed to be isopods were discovered in the fins of farmed flathead grey mullet (average weight 550 g), and the characteristics of the parasites were confirmed. The length of the parasite was 5 to 18 mm, and 3 to 7 parasites were infected per fish. To analyze the characteristics of the parasites, molecular biological identification and phylogenetic analysis were performed using the cytochrome c oxidase subunit I (COI) gene, and it was confirmed to be most closely related to Nerocila japonica in the Cymothoidae family. To confirm the parasite control effect, a direct exposure drug sensitivity test was conducted on five types of aquatic drugs and fresh water, trichlorfon was confirmed to be effective.
자돈하리증(仔豚下痢症) 및 Salmonella 인공감염증(人工感染症)에 대한 Mecadox의 치료 및 예방효과

The effect of mecadox, trade name of carbodox, in the treatment of colibacillosis and in the prevention of experimental Salmonella infection in swine was studied throughout the experimental period of four weeks using a total of 70 piglets. The results obtained are as followings. 1. Mecadox was found moderately effective as a therapeutic for colibacillosis of piglets when administered orally as pig doser or added to the feed at the ratio of 50 ppm with or without the addition of vitamin A and $D_3$. 2. In the prevention of experimental infection with Sal. choleraesuis, mecadox was found highly effective. As judged by clinical symptoms such as diarrhea and fever together with the confirmation of excretion of the causative organisms in the feces, the best result was obtained with mecadox pig doser followed by mecadox (50ppm) with vitamin A and $D_3$, and mecadox (50 ppm) without the vitamins in the descending order of effectiveness.
참조기(Larimichthys polyactis)에서 분리된 Neobenedenia spp.에 대한 분자 생물 동정 및 계통수 분석

In this study, we determined the cause of a disease outbreak in small yellow croaker(Larimichthys polyactis) in Jeju island. The major external signs in the dead fish were hemorrhage of the skin. Vibrio harveyi were isolated from a few fishes and viruses were not detected from the diseased fish. However, flukes were confirmed on the skin and we conducted molecular identification and phylogenetic analysis of the isolated parasites. The obtained 28S rRNA sequence of our specimen(Accession No. OM333244) showed the highest homology with Neobenedenia girellae, while the COI sequence of our specimen showed the highest homology with N. melleni. Further sequence analysis with other genes and morphological observation are necessary for accurate identification.
한국산 담수어에 기생하는 섬모충 Tripartiella sp에 관한 연구 -잉어, 금붕어 및 메기를 중심으로-

To investigate the species and infection rate of Tripartiella sp in three species of freshwater fish, carp(Cyprinus carpio), goldfish (Crassius auratus) and Korean catfish(Parasilurus asotus), fish cultured in the fish farms next to Yosu and in the western area of Chunbuk province in Korea was examined from April to June, 1996. The infection rate was evaluated after observing the gill and mucous from 130 fish under the microscope. The species of Tripartiella was identified on the basis of the shape and number of denticle according to methods of Bychowsky(1985) after staining the parasites with 2% methy-ene blue solution. All the detected-parasite was classified as Tripartiella differed from Trichodina reported previously in our country. T carassii, T californica, T rhombi from Goldfish, T rhombi from common carp. T californica from Israeli carp and T bychowsky from Korean catfish were observed. In the fish from the fish farms in the western area of Chunbuk province, the infection rate of Tripartiella sp was ranged from 6.7% to 100%, but in neither carp nor goldfish from the farms next to Yosu the parasite detected.
