        Two new triterpenoid saponins derived from the leaves of Panax ginseng and their antiinflammatory activity

        Background: The leaves and roots of Panax ginseng are rich in ginsenosides. However, the chemical compositionsof the leaves and roots of P. ginseng differ, resulting in different medicinal functions. In recent years,the aerial parts of members of the Panax genus have received great attention fromnatural product chemistsas producers of bioactive ginsenosides. The aim of this study was the isolation and structural elucidation ofnovel, minor ginsenosides in the leaves of P. ginseng and evaluation of their antiinflammatory activity in vitro. Methods: Various chromatographic techniques were applied to obtain pure individual compounds, andtheir structures were determined by nuclear magnetic resonance and high-resolution mass spectrometry,as well as chemical methods. The antiinflammatory effect of the new compounds was evaluated onlipopolysaccharide-stimulated RAW 264.7 cells. Results and conclusions: Two novel, minor triterpenoid saponins, ginsenoside LS1 (1) and 5,6-didehydroginsenoside Rg3 (2), were isolated from the leaves of P. ginseng. The isolated compounds 1and 2 were assayed for their inhibitory effect on nitric oxide production in LPS-stimulated RAW 264.7cells, and Compound 2 showed a significant inhibitory effect with IC50 of 37.38 mM compared with that ofNG-monomethyl-L-arginine (IC50 ¼ 90.76 mM). Moreover, Compound 2 significantly decreased secretionof cytokines such as prostaglandin E2 and tumor necrosis factor-a. In addition, Compound 2 significantlysuppressed protein expression of inducible nitric oxide synthase and cyclooxygenase-2. These resultssuggested that Compound 2 could be used as a valuable candidate for medicinal use or functional food,and the mechanism is warranted for further exploration.

        Ganoderic acid A attenuates high‑fat‑diet‑induced liver injury in rats by regulating the lipid oxidation and liver inflammation

        Ganoderic Acid A (GA) has many pharmacologicaleffects such as anti-tumor, antibacterial, anti-inflammatory,and immunosuppressive effects. However, the protectiveeffect of GA on liver injury has not been reported. Thisstudy aimed to investigate the action of GA on insufficientmethionine and choline combined with high-fat diet (HFD)-induced non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) in rats. NAFLD model was established by insufficient methionineand choline combined with high fat feeding to rats. The levelsof Acetyl-CoA carboxylase, fatty acid synthase, sterolregulatory element binding protein, liver X receptors, AMPactivatedprotein kinase, peroxisome proliferator-activatedreceptor α, PPARg coactivator 1α and NF-κB pathway inthe liver were detected by western blot. The results of thisstudy demonstrated that the expression of GA can not onlysignificantly decrease the live weight and liver weight perbody weight of HFD mice, but also restore the alanine aminotransferase,aspartate aminotransferase, total bilirubinlevels, triglyceride and cholesterol in serum. In addition,the expression of GA increased the levels of high-densitylipoprotein cholesterol in serum, ameliorated pathologicalchanges and decreased NAS score of mice’s liver. In conclusion,the treatment with GA could improve NAFLD in ratsby regulating the levels of signaling events involved in freefatty acid production, lipid oxidation and liver inflammation.

        Melt-Electrospun Polyvinylbutyral Bonded Polypropylene Composite Fibrous Mat: Spinning Process, Structure and Mechanical Property Study

        In this study, a novel polyvinylbutyral (PVB) bonded polypropylene (PP) composite fibrous mat was fabricated viamelt-electrospinning. In order to enhance the structure stability and mechanical properties of pristine PP fibrous mat system,preparation and characterization of the composite fibrous material by mixing different percentages of PVB and PP wasdesigned. The PVB can form bonding point between the PP fibers, which can ease the slip phenomenon between strainedfibers. The structure, morphology, tensile and tearing stress were measured systematically. The resultants exhibited that thetensile stress and tearing strength of composite fibrous mats were increased from 30.13 to 43.73 kPa and from 0.07 to 0.5 N,respectively. Meanwhile, the straight jet length and whipping range of each electrospun jets were analyzed via the imagescaptured by a high-speed photography system during the spinning process. The experimental resultants depicted thatcomposite system can lead to longer straight jet length and smaller whipping range.

        Preparation of Waterproof and Breathable Polyurethane Fiber Membrane Modified by Fluorosilane-modified Silica

        Polyurethane is a thermoplastic elastomer with excellent physical and chemical properties, the hydrophilicity ofPU limits the wide application in the waterproof and breathable materials market. In this study, SiO2 nanoparticles werehydrophobically modified by fluorosilane to prepare the fluorosilane-modified silica (F-SiO2), then it was added into thesynthesized polyurethane to prepare waterproof and breathable film (F-SiO2/PU) by electrospinning. Compared withpolyurethane membranes, F-SiO2/PU composite membranes could form rough morphological surface through the blendingof F-SiO2. The experimental results showed that the water contact angle of the composite nanofiber membranes increase withthe addition of the amount of modified silica, and the water contact angle reached 135 o when the dosage of F-SiO2 was5 wt%. The composite nanofiber membranes could be endowed with excellent waterproof performance, hydrophobicity(50 kPa) and moisture permeability (10.4 kg/m2·h). Besides, the prepared membrane can remain the hydrophobic propertystability under the dynamic tensile of large-scale deformation.

        Alterations in Spontaneous Brain Activity in Drug-Naïve First-Episode Schizophrenia: An Anatomical/Activation Likelihood Estimation Meta-Analysis

        Objective The etiology of schizophrenia is unknown and is associated with abnormal spontaneous brain activity. There are no consistent results regarding the change in spontaneous brain activity of people with schizophrenia. In this study, we determined the specific changes in the amplitude of low-frequency fluctuation/fractional amplitude of low-frequency fluctuation (ALFF/fALFF) and regional homogeneity (ReHo) in patients with drug-naïve first-episode schizophrenia (Dn-FES). Methods A comprehensive search of databases such as PubMed, Web of Science, and Embase was conducted to find articles on resting-state functional magnetic resonance imaging using ALFF/fALFF and ReHo in schizophrenia patients compared to healthy controls (HCs) and then, anatomical/activation likelihood estimation was performed. Results Eighteen eligible studies were included in this meta-analysis. Compared to the spontaneous brain activity of HCs, we found changes in spontaneous brain activity in Dn-FES based on these two methods, mainly including the frontal lobe, putamen, lateral globus pallidus, insula, cerebellum, and posterior cingulate cortex. Conclusion We found that widespread abnormalities of spontaneous brain activity occur in the early stages of the onset of schizophrenia and may provide a reference for the early intervention of schizophrenia

        Preparation and Catalytic Performance of Amidoximated Polyacrylonitrile Bimodal Nanofiber Iron Complexes

        To balance the specific surface area and porous structure of nanofibrous heterogeneous Fenton catalyst for therapid transfer of dye molecules during dye-containing wastewater treatment, a polyacrylonitrile nanofiber with bimodaldiameter distribution (n-PAN-D) was prepared and amidoximated, followed by coordinating with Fe3+ ion (Fe-AO-n-PAND). The modification and coordination process hardly changed the fiber morphology and bimodal diameter distribution ofnanofiber membrane. The amidoximated degree of n-PAN-D increased with the increase of the diameter difference, and thecoordination ability of amidoximated n-PAN-D decreased with increasing the diameter difference. Fe-AO-n-PAN-D hadbetter catalytic activity than those with similar thick or thin nanofiber diameters due to the rapid mass transfer of dyemolecules in the catalyst. The possible oxidation and degradation pathway of Reactive Red 195 in the Fe-AO-n-PAN-D/H2O2system was proposed. And the series of reactions may not gradually occur because of the non-selective oxidation of ·OH. Thegood reusability of Fe-AO-n-PAN-D made it potential carrier for heterogeneous Fenton catalyst in wastewater treatment.
