        Post-Transcriptional Control of Tropoelastin in Aortic Smooth Muscle Cells Affects Aortic Dissection Onset

        Aortic dissection (AD) is a catastrophic disease with high mortality and morbidity, characterized with fragmentation of elastin and loss of smooth muscle cells. Although AD has been largely attributable to polymorphisms defect in the elastin-coding gene, tropoelastin (TE), other undermined factors also appear to play roles in AD onset. Here, we investigated the effects of post-transcriptional control of TE by microRNAs (miRNAs) on elastin levels in aortic smooth muscle cells (ASMC). We found that miR-144-3p is a miRNA that targets TE mRNA in both human and mouse. Bioinformatics analyses and dual luciferase reporter assay showed that miR-144-3p inhibited protein translation of TE, through binding to the 3'-UTR of the TE mRNA. Interestingly, higher miR-144-3p levels and lower TE were detected in the ASMC obtained from AD patients, compared to those from non-AD controls. In a mouse model for human AD, infusion of adeno-associated viruses (serotype 6) carrying antisense for miR-144-3p (asmiR-144-3p) under CAG promoter significantly reduced the incidence and severity of AD, seemingly through enhancement of TE levels in ASMC. Thus, our data suggest an essential role of miR-144-3p on the pathogenesis of AD.

        Single-phased silicate-hosted phosphor with 660 nm-featured band emission for biological light-emitting diodes

        A single-phased (Ba,Sr)3MgSi2O8:Eu2þ, Mn2þ phosphor with 660 nm-featured dual band-emission is investigated upon optimizing composition to simulate the artificial photosynthetic action spectrum (PAS)for near-ultraviolet (NUV) biological light-emitting diodes (bio-LEDs). A specific composition range in Ba eSr binary solid solution of (Ba,Sr)3MgSi2O8 is found to be capable of obtaining single-phased host in the absence of an easily formed orthosilicate impurity, leading to a 660 nm-featured red band emission of Mn2+ induced by an efficient energy transfer from a co-doped blue-emitting Eu2+ sensitizer. This dual broad band emission phosphor has a 72 nm full width at half maximum (FWHM) for red band that covers fairly well to the absorption spectrum of chlorophyll and PAS for most plants, enabling a flexible option in the application of bio-illumination for artificial photosynthesis.

        Anti-domestic violence law: The fight for women’s legal rights in China

        In China, the definition of domestic violence is usually limited to direct physical and mental harm to family members. About a quarter of Chinese families have been reportedly affected by domestic violence to different degrees, with most victims being women who have lacked effective legal protection for a long time. In response, Chinese feminists advocated the implementation of the Anti-domestic Violence Law (ADVL). Through judicial reforms, the Supreme Court of China has urged local courts at all levels to establish Family Law Divisions so that they can implement the provisions of ADVL better. However, due to compromises made before it was finalized and the restrictions of the Chinese legal system, its effectiveness is still limited, making it difficult for Chinese female victims of domestic violence to obtain sufficient support from the courts. The process Chinese feminists have undertaken to put forward their ideas regarding this Law has only just begun.

        Infuence of Diferent XLPE Cable Defects on the Initiation of Electric Trees

        Defects in the insulation layer of cross-linked polyethylene (XLPE) cable are the leading cause of electrical tree. The mechanism that how the diferent insulation defects infuence on the starting of electrical tree should be explored, and it will be utilized to improve cable insulation in the production and installation. In the paper, frstly the spike-air gap defect as the main defect characteristics of cable fault has been determined by analyzing the actual cable defect type and infuence. Then, the needle-electrode short cable test system was built and the representative defect model was constructed, in order to simulate the infuence of the spike-air gap defect of diferent sizes in the outer semiconductor layer on the initial voltage of electrical tree. Thirdly, the Physical model was created to analyze the infuence of each defect parameters. The research showed that the electrical tree of XLPE cable was mainly caused by defects in the semiconductor layer. The maximum electric feld distribution can be formulized by the maximum feld strength Mason model. According to the formulation and the test results, the main parameters, including the spur curvature, the micro-pore pressure and the initial energy of generating electric tree, have a positive promotion on the initial voltage of the electrical tree and can hinder the tree developing. Therefore, utilizing the interface treatment method between the insulation layer and the semiconductor layer, the insulation heat treatment process and the flling of the inert gas are to improve the parameters and further resist electrical tree aging in the production and installation.

        Genetic variations in the bitter taste receptor gene TAS2R38 are related to cigarette smoking behavior in Han Chinese smokers

        Background: Smoking behavior is influenced by multiple genes, including the bitter taste gene TAS2R38. It has been reported that the correlation between TAS2R38 and smoking behavior has ethnicity-based differences. However, the TAS2R38 status in Chinese smokers is still unclear. Objective: This study aims to investigate the possible relationship between genetic variations in TAS2R38 (A49P, V262A and I296V) and smoking behaviors in the Han Chinese population. Methods: The haplotype analyses were performed and smoking behavior questionnaire was completed by 1271 individuals. Genetic association analyses for smoking behavior were analyzed using chi-square test. Further, for investigating the molecular mechanism of TAS2R38 variants effect on smoking behavior, we conducted TAS2R38-PAV and TAS2R38-AVI expression plasmids and tested the cellular calcium assay by cigarette smoke compounds stimulus in HEK293. Results: Significant associations of genetic variants within TAS2R38 were identified with smoking behavior. We found a higher PAV/PAV frequency than AVI/AVI in moderate and high nicotine dependence (FTND ≥ 4; X2 = 4.611, 1 df, p = 0.032) and strong cigarette smoke flavor intensity preference (X2 = 4.5383, 1 df, p = 0.033) in participants. Furthermore, in the in vitro cellular calcium assay, total particle matter (TPM), N-formylnornicotine and cotinine, existing in cigarette smoke, activated TAS2R38-PAV but not TAS2R38-AVI-transfected cells. Conclusion: Our data highlights that genetic variations in TAS2R38 are related to smoking behavior, especially nicotine dependence and cigarette smoke flavor intensity preference. Our findings may encourage further consideration of the taste process to identify individuals susceptible to nicotine dependence, particularly Han Chinese smokers.

        요트 산업이 아시아 시장으로 이동하고 있으며, 코로나19 바이러스 이후 중국 관광 산업의 회복과 발전이 시급한 상황에서 중국은 하이난 자유 무역항 전략을 제안했다. 본 논문은 하이난성 요트산업 발전의 장단점, 발전문제 및 과제를 분석하고, 하이난성 요트산업 발전과 하이난자유무역항 개발 및 건설을 위한 최적화 전략을 제안한다. 첫째, 코로나바이러스 전염병이 관광산업에 미치는 막대한 영향에 대응하고 관광산업을 회복하기 위한 정책기회와 시장 기회에 집중한다. 둘째, 과도한 관광객으로 인한 어려움에 대처하기 위해 취약한 관광시설 기반을 개선한다. 마지막으로 요트 산업체인 개선, 요트 수출입 절차 최적화, 고급 인재 양성, 양질의 서비스 제공 측면에서 대책과 제안을 내놓았다. The yacht industry is shifting towards the Asian market, and with the end of the COVID-19 pandemic, there is an urgent need for the recovery and development of China's tourism industry. Against this backdrop, China has proposed the strategy of establishing a free trade port in Hainan. This analysis focuses on the advantages, disadvantages, developmental issues, and challenges facing the yacht industry in Hainan Province, proposing optimization strategies for the development of the yacht industry in Hainan and the development and construction of the Hainan Free Trade Port. Firstly, seizing policy and market opportunities to address the significant impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on the tourism industry and facilitate its recovery. Secondly, enhancing the weak infrastructure of tourism facilities to meet the challenges posed by an influx of tourists. Finally, improving the yacht industry supply chain, streamlining yacht import and export procedures, nurturing high-quality talent, and providing high-quality services. These measures are recommended to optimize the development of the yacht industry and the establishment of the Hainan Free Trade Port.

        Behavior of Al/Cu/Ti electrodes in surface acoustic wave filter at high power

        Driven by the need for high data-rates and continuous reduction in device size, surface acoustic wave filters are required to work under increasingly high power. In this work, a series of 2.7 GHz surface acoustic wave filters with Al/Cu/Ti three-layered electrode were fabricated and loaded with high power. Those three-layered electrodes showed weaker texture but higher stability than Al-Cu alloy electrode at high power. Morphologies, microstructures and elements distribution in cross section of fingers were analyzed carefully before and after high power loading. Results show that the circular-arc-shaped outline of fingers were appeared in most samples after high power loading, and the number of gains in the finger cross section changed from some into several with much larger volume. The features of distribution of Cu atoms also coincided with these microstructures. By finite element method and phase diagram analysis, the higher stability of Al/Cu/Ti three-layered electrodes are attributed to precipitation of θ-CuAl2 in the bottom edge of electrode finger and Cu-doped α-Al in the center top.

        Trans-Membrane Transport of n-Octadecane by Pseudomonas sp. DG17

        The trans-membrane transport of hydrocarbons is an important and complex aspect of the process of biodegradation of hydrocarbons by microorganisms. The mechanism of transport of 14C n-octadecane by Pseudomonas sp. DG17,an alkane-degrading bacterium, was studied by the addition of ATP inhibitors and different substrate concentrations. When the concentration of n-octadecane was higher than 4.54 μmol/L, the transport of 14C n-octadecane was driven by a facilitated passive mechanism following the intra/extra substrate concentration gradient. However, when the cells were grown with a low concentration of the substrate, the cellular accumulation of n-octadecane, an energy-dependent process, was dramatically decreased by the presence of ATP inhibitors, and n-octadecane accumulation continually increased against its concentration gradient. Furthermore, the presence of non-labeled alkanes blocked 14C n-octadecane transport only in the induced cells, and the trans-membrane transport of n-octadecane was specific with an apparent dissociation constant Kt of 11.27 μmol/L and Vmax of 0.96μmol/min/mg protein. The results indicated that the transmembrane transport of n-octadecane by Pseudomonas sp. DG17 was related to the substrate concentration and ATP.

        Polyvinylidene Fluoride Electrospun Fibers Loaded TiO2 for Photocatalytic Degradation and Oil/Water Separation

        In this study, electrospun polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF)-based nanofibrous membranes embedding TiO2 wereprepared and used for photocatalytic degradation and oil/water separation. The nanofibrous membranes were characterizedby scanning electron microscopy (SEM), transmission electronic microscope (TEM), X-ray diffraction (XRD), Fouriertransform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) spectroscopy, thermal performance analysis, and oil/water separation analysis. Andthe degradation of rhodamine B dye was also investigated. Results showed that the fiber diameter and thermal stability of themembranes decreased with the increasing of TiO2. Meanwhile, the fiber surface roughness and specific surface areaincreased. The analysis of TEM, XRD and FTIR indicated that TiO2 existed in the PVDF membranes. When the TiO2 contentwas 12 %, the fiber diameter of the membranes was about 110 nm, and the photocatalytic degradation of rhodamine B dyeefficiency was up to 97 %. The reaction rate constant was 0.02057 min-1. At 0.01 MPa vacuum, oil separated from watereffectively, which proves that separation can be easily conducted with a low energy cost. Thus, the prepared membranes havea very high application prospect in the purification of reclaimed water and separation of oil and water.
