      • Association of TNF-α-308 and -238 Polymorphisms with Risk of Cervical Cancer: A Meta-analysis

        Published data on the associations between tumor necrosis factor-alpha (TNF-${\alpha}$) promoter -308G>A and -238G>A polymorphisms and cervical cancer risk are inconclusive. To derive a more precise estimation of the relationship, a meta-analysis was performed. Data were collected from MEDLINE and PubMed databases. Crude odds ratios (ORs) with 95% confidence intervals (CIs) were calculated in a fixed/random effect model. 13 separate studies including 3294 cases and 3468 controls were involved in the meta-analysis. We found no association between TNF-${\alpha}$-308G>A polymorphism and cervical cancer in overall population. In subgroup analysis, significantly elevated risks were found in Caucasian population (A vs. G: OR = 1.43, 95% CI = 1.00-2.03; AA vs. GG: OR = 2.09, 95% CI = 1.34-3.25; Recessive model: OR = 2.09, 95% CI = 1.35-3.25) and African population (GA vs. GG: OR = 1.53, 95% CI = 1.02-2.30). An association of TNF-${\alpha}$-238G>A polymorphism with cervical cancer was found (A vs. G: OR = 0.61, 95% CI = 0.47-0.78; GA vs. GG: OR = 0.59, 95% CI = 0.45-0.77; Dominant model: OR = 0.59, 95% CI = 0.46-0.77). When stratified by ethnicity, similar association was observed in Caucasian population (A vs. G: OR = 0.62, 95% CI = 0.46-0.84; GA vs. GG: OR = 0.59, 95% CI = 0.43-0.82; Dominant model: OR = 0.60, 95% CI = 0.44-0.83). In summary, this meta-analysis suggests that TNF-${\alpha}$-238A allele significantly decreased the cervical cancer risk, and the TNF-${\alpha}$-308G>A polymorphism is associated with the susceptibility to cervical cancer in Caucasian and African population.

        중국의 IFRS 도입에 따른 연구개발비의 가치관련성

        2007년부터 적용된 중국의 신기업회계기준에서 무형자산과 관련한 규정이 개정됨에 따라 연구개발비에 대한 공시가 요구되었고, 그 이후 중국 상장기업의 연구개발비 관련 공시의 질은 대폭 개선되었다. 본 연구는 사회주의 경제체제를 가진 중국의 자본시장을 대상으로 연구개발비의 가치 관련성과 기업소유구조에 따른 이들 기업의 회계정보에 대한 투자자들의 반응이 차별적인지를 분석하였다. 분석결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 기업의 자본화된 연구개발비와 비용화된 연구개발비는 기업가치에 유의한 양(+)의 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났다. 이는 자본화된 연구개발비의 가치관련성을 검증한 결과로, 신기업회계기준에 의해 개정된 연구개발비의 조건부 자본화 정책이 지지되는 결과이다. 둘째, R&D 지출 비중이 높은 기업의 연구개발비는 낮은 기업 보다 기업가치에 미치는 영향이 높은 것으로 나타났다. 셋째, 기업소유특성에 따라 국유기업과 비국유기업 간의 가치관련성을 분석한 결과, 비국유기업의 연구개발비가 기업가치에 미치는 영향은 국유기업 보다 통계적으로 유의하게 높은 것으로 나타났다. From 2007, China"s New Accounting Standards was published, based on the revision of related of intangible assets, the requirement of disclosure for research and development was presented. And since 2009, the quality of disclosure for R&D information for China"s listed firms has improved greatly. The purpose of this study is to investigate the expenditure of R&D activities for China"s listed firms and value relevance, and in accordance with ownership properties, whether the investors" reaction on the accounting information for those firms will be discriminative or not is also tested in this research. Empirical results are as follows. First, In the case of total samples, when firms" R&D expenditure is higher, its R&D expenditure had greater share prices multiple as compared to other firms with lower one. Second, according to the percentage of R&D expenditure, these firms" accounting information showed discriminatory value relevance. In other words, these firms with high expenditure on R&D, their accounting informations showed higher value relevance as compared to firms with lower one. Third, according to ownership properties, these firms" accounting information had different value relevance. In other words, depending on the characteristics of ownership properties, we divided all the firms into private one and state-owned one, and private firms" accounting information"s value relevance was higher than state-owned firms.

      • Insulin Promotes Proliferation and Migration of Breast Cancer Cells through the Extracellular Regulated Kinase Pathway

        The present study was undertaken to determine the roles of insulin in the growth of transplanted breast cancer in nude mice, and the proliferation and migration of MCF-7 human breast cancer cells and assess its influence on downstream signaling pathways. In a xenograft mouse model with injection of MCF-7 human breast cancer cells, tumor size was measured every other day. The insulin level and insulin receptor (IR) were increased in the breast cancer patient tissues. Insulin injected subcutaneously around the tumor site in mice caused increase in the size and weight of tumor masses, and promoted proliferation and migration of MCF-7 cells. The effects of insulin on the increase in the proliferation and migration of MCF-7 human breast cancer cells were abolished by pretreatment with the extracellular regulated kinase (ERK) inhibitor PD98059. Insulin increased the phosphorylation of ERK in the MCF-7 cells. These results indicate that insulin promotes the growth of breast cancer in nude mice, and increases the proliferation and migration of MCF-7 human breast cancer cells via the ERK pathway.

        Effects of Local Pancreatic Renin-Angiotensin System on the Microcirculation of Rat with Severe Acute Pancreatitis

        Severe acute pancreatitis (SAP) is normally related to multiorgan dysfunction and local complications. Studies have found that local pancreatic renin-angiotensin system (RAS) was significantly upregulated in drug-induced SAP. The present study aimed to investigate the effects of angiotensin II receptors inhibitor valsartan on dual role of RAS in SAP in a rat model and to elucidate the underlying mechanisms. 3.8% sodium taurocholate (1 ml/kg) was injected to the pancreatic capsule in order for pancreatitis induction. Rats in the sham group were injected with normal saline in identical locations. We also investigated the regulation of experimentally induced SAP on local RAS expression in the pancreas through determination of the activities of serum amylase, lipase and myeloperoxidase, histological and biochemical analysis, radioimmunoassay, fluorescence quantitative PCR and Western blot analysis. The results indicated that valsartan could effectively suppress the local RAS to protect against experimental acute pancreatitis through inhibition of microcirculation disturbances and inflammation. The results suggest that pancreatic RAS plays a critical role in the regulation of pancreatic functions and demonstrates application potential as AT1 receptor antagonists. Moreover, other RAS inhibitors could be a new therapeutic target in acute pancreatitis.

        A Study of Optimization of α-β-γ-η Filter for Tracking a High Dynamic Target

        The tracking filter plays a key role in accurate estimation and prediction of maneuvering the vessel's position and velocity. Different methods are used for tracking. However, the most commonly used method is the Kalman filter and its modifications. The ${\alpha}-{\beta}-{\gamma}$ filter is one of the special cases of the general solution provided by the Kalman filter. It is a third order filter that computes the smoothed estimates of position, velocity, and acceleration for the nth observation, and predicts the next position and velocity. Although found to track a maneuvering target with good accuracy than the constant velocity ${\alpha}-{\beta}$ filter, the ${\alpha}-{\beta}-{\gamma}$ filter does not perform impressively under high maneuvers, such as when the target is undergoing changing accelerations. This study aims to track a highly maneuvering target experiencing jerky motions due to changing accelerations. The ${\alpha}-{\beta}-{\gamma}$ filter is extended to include the fourth state that is, constant jerk to correct the sudden change of acceleration to improve the filter's performance. Results obtained from simulations of the input model of the target dynamics under consideration indicate an improvement in performance of the jerky model, ${\alpha}-{\beta}-{\gamma}-{\eta}$ algorithm as compared to the constant acceleration model, ${\alpha}-{\beta}-{\gamma}$ in terms of error reduction and stability of the filter during target maneuver.

        Optimization of the Gain Parameters in a Tracking Module for ARPA system on Board High Dynamic Warships

        The tracking filter plays a key role in the accurate estimation and prediction of maneuvering a vessel’s position and velocity when attempting to enhance safety by avoiding collision. Therefore, in order to achieve accurate estimation and prediction, many oceangoing vessels are equipped with the Automatic Radar Plotting Aid (ARPA) system. However, the accuracy of prediction depends on the tracking filter’s ability to reduce noise and maintain a stable transient response. The purpose of this paper is to derive the optimal values of the gain parameters used in tracking a High Dynamic Warship. The algorithm employs a filter to provide accurate estimates and updates of the state variables, that is, positions, velocity and acceleration of the high dynamic warship based on previously observed values. In this study, the filtering coefficients and are determined from set values of the damping parameter. Optimization of the damping parameter , is achieved experimentally by plotting the residual error against different values of the damping parameter to determine the least value of the damping parameter that results in the optimum smoothing coefficients leading to a reduction in the noise corruption effect. Further investigation of the performance of the filter indicates that optimal smoothing coefficients depend on the initial and average velocity of the target.
