비소세포 폐암종에서 Epidiermal growth factor receptor(EGFR)의 발현 양상

배경: 비소세포 폐암종에서 epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR)의 발현이 예후에 미치는 영향에 대해서는 아직 일치된 결론에 이르지 못하고 있으며, 비소세포 폐암종의 조직 병리학적 소견으로는 종양의 진행 및 예후에 대해 예측이 불가능하다. 이에 저자들은 종양의 EGFR 발현과 임상 및 병리학적 특징과의 관계를 관찰하였다. 재료 및 방법: 1990년부터 2004년까지 순천향 대학교 천안병원에서 수술로 절제된 95명 환자의 포르말린에 고정한 파라핀 포매 조직을 이용하여 EGFR 항체를 이용한 면역조직화착 검사를 시행하였으며 이의 결과를 환자의 임상양상과 병리학적 소견과 비교 분석하였다. 결과: EGFR 발현과 환자의 생존기간을 비롯한 성별, TNM 임상병기, TU댕기, N-병기와는 관련이 없었으나 조직학적 유형중 편평상피암종은 47예중 43예가 양성 반응을 보여 통계학적으로 의미 있는 상관관계를 보였다(p=0.005). 그 외에 성별, 조직학적 유형, TNM 임상병기, T-병기, N-병기중 어떠한 변수도 생존기간과의 연관성을 보이지 않았다. 결론: 비소세포 폐암종에서 EGFR의 발현은 환자의 생존기간 및 임상병리학적 소견과 유의한 상관관계를 보이지 않으므로 예후인자로서의 이용은 현재로선 불가능하여 좀 더 많은 증례를 통한 연구가 필요할 것으로 사료된다. Background: The prognostic role of epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR) remains controversial in patients with non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC). Histopathologic findings cannot adequately predict disease progression, so we investigated the reladonship between EGFR and clinicopathologic feature. Methods: Using immunohistochemical techniques, we retrospecdvely analyzed formalin-fixed, paraffin-embedded samples from 95 padents with resected pathological NSCLCs. Then, we correlated these data with padents' clinical outcome and pathologic finding. Results: No reladonship was found between EGFR overexpression and patient survival when the entire cohort was considered. Multivariate factors including gender, histologic type, TNM stage, T stage and N stage were not correlated to poor outcome. Also, no factors revealed correlation with EGFR overexpression except histologic type. Squamous cell carcinoma showed positive reaction in 43 out of 47 patients(p=0.005). Condusion: This result indicated that EGFR overexpression in NSCLC showed no reladonship with patients' survival. Therefore, EGFR overexpression could not be used as a poor prognostic marker.

<P>The introduction of inorganic nanoparticles into carbon nanotube (CNT) papers can provide a versatile route to the fabrication of CNT papers with diverse functionalities, but it may lead to a reduction in their mechanical properties. Here, we describe a simple and effective strategy for the fabrication of mechanically robust magnetic CNT papers for electromagnetic interference (EMI) shielding and magnetomechanical actuation applications. The magnetic CNT papers were produced by vacuum filtration of an aqueous suspension of CNTs, CoFe2O4 nanoparticles, and poly(vinyl alcohol) (PVA). PVA plays a critical role in enhancing the mechanical strength of CNT papers. The magnetic CNT papers containing 73 wt % of CoFe2O4 nanoparticles exhibited high mechanical properties with Young's modulus of 3.2 GPa and tensile strength of 30.0 MPa. This magnetic CNT paper was successfully demonstrated as EMI shielding paper with shielding effectiveness of similar to 30 dB (99.9%) in 0.5-1.0 GHz, and also as a magnetomechanical actuator in an audible frequency range from 200 to 20 000 Hz.</P>
Recombinant Production of an Inulinase in a Saccharomyces cerevisiae gal80 Strain

The inulinase gene (INU1) from Kluyveromyces marxianus NCYC2887 was overexpressed by using the GAL10 promotor in a △gal80 strain of Saccharomyces cerevisiae. The inulinase gene lacking the original signal sequence was fused in-frame to a mating factor α signal sequence for secretory expression. Use of the △gal80 strain allowed for the galactose-free induction of inulinase expression using a glucose-only medium. Shake-flask cultivation in YPD medium produced 34.6 U/ml of the recombinant inulinase, which was approximately 13-fold higher than that produced by K. marxianus NCYC2887. It was found that the use of the △gal80 strain improved the expression of inulinase in the recombinant S. cerevisiae in both aerobic and anaerobic conditions by about 2.9- and 1.7- fold, respectively. A 5-l fed-batch fermentation using YPD medium was performed under aerobic condition with glucose feeding, which resulted in the inulinase production of 31.7 U/ml at the OD600 of 67. Ethanol fermentation of dried powder of Jerusalem artichoke, an inulin-rich biomass, was also performed using the recombinant S. cerevisiae expressing INU1 and K. marxianus NCYC2887. Fermentation in a 5-l scale fermentor was carried out at an aeration rate of 0.2 vvm, an agitation rate of 300 rpm, and with the pH controlled at 5.0. The temperature was maintained at 30oC and 37oC, respectively, for the recombinant S. cerevisiae and K. marxianus. The maximum productivities of ethanol were 59.0 and 53.5 g/l, respectively.

A 41-year-old female patient was admitted with uncontrolled gum bleeding and severe pancytopenia. She had a history of systemic lupus erythematosus(SLE) for 2 years prior to the identification of marrow fibrosis. Myelofibrosis is characterized by excessive deposition of collagen, laminin, and fibronectin within the bone marrow stroma. These changes can be due to primary myeloproliferative disorders, a variety of malignant processes, endocrine disturbances, or inflammatory diseases. Myelofibrosis is a rare cause of cytopenias in SLE, and conversely SLE is an uncommon etiology for myelofibrosis. We report a case of myelofibrosis secondary to systemic lupus erythematosus which was reversed by the treatment with glucocorticoid.

Introduction: Glomerular disease in NHL is uncommon and manifest in a variety of histologic patterns. The glomerulonephritis (GN) associated with marginal zone lymphoma (MZL) is an extremely rare entity. We report a case of lupus-like GN revealed the complete remission after the successful treatment with chemotherapy. Case: A 49-year-old man was admitted for evaluation of generalized edema and dyspnea that had been present for 1 week. Serum creatinine was 2.2 mg/dL and BUN was 73 mg/dL. A urine examination showed 3+ proteinuria, 610 WBCs and many RBCs. Urinary protein excretion was measured at 3.9 g/24h. ANA, anti-dsDNA, ANCA, and serologic tests for HIV and HBV and HCV infections were all negative. The levels of C3and C4 were low. Further laboratory data showed serum lgG of 324 mg/ dL, lgA of 272 mg/dL, lgM of 152 mg/dL. Serum PEP revealed an M-spike with lgM/ kappa band on serum immunofixation. PET-CT revealed multiple mass of thymus and liver, and enlarged multiple lymph nodes in the mediastinum and abdominal cavity. The biopsy specimens of thymus and liver diagnosed as MZL. The renal biopsy was diagnosed as having immune-mediated GN with lupus-like features. Therefore, a final diagnosis of lupus-like GN associated with thymic and hepatic MZL was established. He was started on chemotherapy with CHOP. After the treatment of 8 cycles of CHOP chemotherapy, PET/CT revealed no metabolic activity of thyroid and hepatic mass, and was interpreted as the complete remission of MZL. The serum creatinine was 0.7 mg/ dL. The urinalysis showed no protein or RBC. The protein/creatinine ratio of a random urine test was 0.27 mg/mg. The serum C3 and C4 level were normal. At 15 months from CHOP chemotherapy, there was no evidence of the recurrence of MZL.
