<P>Xylose is a major monosugar in cellulosic biomass and should be utilized for cost-effective ethanol production. In this study, xylose-converting ability of recombinant Saccharomyces cerevisiae SX6MUT expressing NADH-preferring xylose reductase mutant (R276H) and other xylose-metabolic enzymes, and deficient in aldehyde dehydrogenase 6 (Ald6p) were characterized at microaerobic conditions using various sugar mixtures. The reduction of air supply from 0.5 vvm to 0.1 vvm increased specific ethanol production rate by 75% and did not affect specific xylose consumption rate. In batch fermentations using various concentrations of xylose (50-104 g/L), higher xylose concentration enhanced xylose consumption rate and ethanol productivity but reduced ethanol yield, owing to the accumulation of xylitol and glycerol from xylose. SX6MUT consumed monosugars in pitch pine hydrolysates and produced 23.1 g/L ethanol from 58.7 g/L sugars with 0.39 g/g ethanol yield, which was 14% higher than the host strain of S. cerevisiae D452-2 without the xylose assimilating enzymes. In conclusion, S. cerevisiae SX6(MUT) was characterized to possess high xylose-consuming ability in microaerobic conditions and a potential for ethanol production from cellulosic biomass. Melatonin is implicated in various physiological functions, including anticancer activity. However, the mechanism(s) of its anticancer activity is not well understood. In the present study, we investigated the combined effects of melatonin and arsenic trioxide (ATO) on cell death in human breast cancer cells. Melatonin enhanced the ATO-induced apoptotic cell death via changes in the protein levels of Survivin, Bcl-2, and Bax, thus affecting cytochrome c release from the mitochondria to the cytosol. Interestingly, we found that the cell death induced by co-treatment with melatonin and ATO was mediated by sustained upregulation of Redd1, which was associated with increased production of reactive oxygen species (ROS). Combined treatment with melatonin and ATO induced the phosphorylation of JNK and p38 MAP kinase downstream from Redd1 expression. Rapamycin and S6K1 siRNA enhanced, while activation of mTORC1 by transfection with TSC2 siRNA suppressed the cell death induced by melatonin and ATO treatment. Taken together, our findings suggest that melatonin enhances ATO-induced apoptotic cell death via sustained upregulation of Redd1 expression and inhibition of mTORC1 upstream of the activation of the p38/JNK pathways in human breast cancer cells.

To determime the feasibility of improving the education in the departments of technical high schools, 3 company were visited and appropriate material were gathered and analyzed. From the results of this study it was determined that there is much need for knowledge and skill pertaining to measurement and control devices; hence, these should be more available in courses in the electrical departments of technical high schools. Many experimental facilities should be equipped in order to attain the high quality of skill and knowledge required in that field. Because of the expense of such equipment and its low use factor, industry-school cooperation should be expanded and strengthened thus making available to the studsnts the knowledges and skills needed by the industry.

연구목적 : 저자들은 국내 기질연구에 장애가 되고 잇는 원인중의 하나가 표준화된 기질 평가도구의 미비라고 생각하였다. 따라서 저자들은 기질 연구의 효시가 되었던 Thomas와 chess에 의해 개발되고 표준화되었으며, 3세에서 7세 사이 아동의 기질을 부모설문지를 통하여 평가 할 수 있는 “Parental Temperament Questionnaire”의 한국어판 표준화를 위하여 본 연구를 설계하고 실시하였다. 방 법 : 연구대상은 전국 25곳의 삼성어린이집에 다니고 있는 1,175명의 아동이었다. 저자들에 의해 번역된 “아동 기질에 대한 기질 설문지”, 기존에 표준화되어 신뢰도와 타당도가 입증된 “한국판 걸음마기 기질평가 척도” 및 “예일 소아행동 평가척도”를 연구대상 아동의 부모들에게 배포한 후 채점된 결과를 이용하여 신뢰도 및 타당도를 검증하였다. 결 과 : 검사-재검사 신뢰도, 기질범주별 문항-범주 상관선, 내적 일관성 등의 신뢰도 검사에서 모두 만족할만한 수준의 값들을 보여주었다. 설문지사의 각 기질 범주 점수와 어머니가 느끼는 기질 범주사이의 상관성은 “산만성” 범주를 제외하고는 모든 범주에서 통계적 의의가 있었다. “아동 기질에 대한 기질 설문지”, 각 기질범주 점수와 “한국판 걸음마기 기질평가 척도”의 기질범주 사이의 상관관계에서 모든 기질 범주에서 통계적으로 유사한 상관관계를 보였다. “아동 기질에 대한 기질 설문지”의 9가지 기질 범주와 “예일 소아행동 평가척도”의 11가지 소척도 사이에는 다양한 상관관계를 보였다. 결 론 : 본 연구를 통하여 개발된 “아동 기질에 대한 기질 설문지”는 신뢰도 및 타당도면에서 검증된 표준화된 도구이며 향후 기질연구에 기초도구로 사용되길 기대한다. Objective : One of the factors that obstructs active progress of the temperament study in Korea is lack of the standardized assessment tools. Therefore, this study was designed and conducted for the purposed Korean standardization of “Parental Temperament Questionnaire (PTQ)”, which was developed by Thomas Chess, to assess the temperament of children between the ages of 3 and 7 years through parental questionnaire. Method : The samples consisted of 1,175 children who were attending nurseries nationwide. PTQ was translated into Korean language by the authors and distributed to the parents of these children, along with “Toddler Temperament Scale(TTS)” and “Yale Child Inventory(YCI)” which had been previously standardized by different investigators. The reliability and validity of the Korean version of PTQ were tested. Results : Test-retest reliability, item-category correlations and internal consistency of the Korean version of PTQ were generally satisfactory. Correlations between the perceived temperament and the rated temperament were statistically significant in all temperamental categories except destructibility. The correlation between PTQ and TTS was statistically significant in all categories. The 9 categories of PTQ correlated variously with 11 subscales of preschool behavioral assessment of YCL. Conclusion : The Korean version of PTQ is a standardized tool to assess the temperament of children between ages 3 and 7 years, which will be a useful basic tool for the study of temperament of Korean children.

In this study, introduce about processing method of fluid passage channel in fuel processor by powder blasting. A processing meterial of the channel used LCD glass which thermal resistance and corrosion resistance are superior. For the comparison of heat transfer performance of methanol evaporator, numerical analysis using FLUENT code was carried out. Thereafter, processed fluid passage channel for fuel processor of LCD glass by powder blasting. After processing, analyzed about comparison of several channel forming cases channel depth, width and rib width.

인구의 고령화가 진행되면서 난청인구는 증가하고 있으며 난청자들은 일반적으로 공기전도형 보청기를 사용하고 있다. 이러한 보청기는 미용문제와 귀 폐쇄감 및 하울링 현상 등으로 인해 난청자들이 기피하고 있으며, 이를 극복하기 위한 방법으로 완전히 은닉할 수 있고 음향 피드백의 영향이 적은 완전 이식형 인공중이 시스템이 전 세계적으로 주목받고 있다. 경북대 첨단 감각기능 회복장치연구센터(Advanced Research Center for Recovery of Human Sensibility, ACRHS)는 보건복지부의 지원과 (주)파이컴의 참여 하에, 약 4년간의 연구 결과로 차동 전자 트랜스듀서를 기반으로 하는 완전 이식형 인공중이 시스템의 시제품 ACROHS-1.5와 그 주변장치로 무선 제어기 및 무선 충전장치를 각각 구현하고 실험을 통해 평가하였다. 현재는 제작된 시제품을 기반으로 한국식품의약품안전청 (KFDA)의 시험을 받기 위한 준비과정에 있다. Recently, persons who have difficulty in hearing are increase as aging of population, conventional hearing aids are generally used by them. In contrast with conventional hearing aids, implantable middle ear hearing devices (IMEHDs) with the advantages of complete concealment, occlusion of ear, and reduction of acoustic feedback are remarkable methods to overcome difficulties of people who have from moderate hearing loss to severe hearing loss. At Advanced Research Center for Recovery of Human Sensibility (ACRHS) in Kyungpook National University (KNU) under the auspices of Korean Ministry of Health & Welfare (KMHW) and PHICOM Co, as the products of their research during 4 years, fully implantable middle ear hearing device (ACROHS-1.5) based on a differential floating mass transducer (DFMT), an implantable microphone, a remote controller, and a wireless charger have been implemented. Each prototype has been evaluated through several experiments. In the present time, we are going to prepare clinical trials for approval of Korean Food and Drug Administration (KFDA).
