Sang-Woo Kim, Jae-Young Choi, and co-workers report on p. 2187 the electrical and structural stability of the nanogenerators, with excellent charge scavenging performance under external mechanical loads such as bending and rolling.         갑상선 기능항진증 환자에서 인슐린감수성 및 인슐린분비능의 변화

        The impairement of glucose metabolism is frequently associated in hyperthyroidism. The present study was performed to determine the effect of the thyroid hormone excess on insulin sensitivity and on insulin secretory function in vivo. Ten newly diagnosed hyperthyroid patients and fifteen healthy control subjects were subjected to frequently sampled intravenous glucose tolerance tests(FSIGT) after an overnight fast. Insulin sensitivity, represented by the insulin sensitivity index(S_1), was assessed by minimal model analysis of FSIGT data. Insulin secretion was measured by the total area under the insulin curve after glucose load. The results were as follows. 1) The K_G values, which represent glucose tolerance, were not different between the hyperthyroid patients and the normals(2.2+-0.3 vs. 2.5+-0.3%/min, p$gt;0.05). 2) S_1 was significantly decreased in the hyperthyroid patients in comparison to the normals(7.5+-1.4 vs. 2.6+-0.3X10^-4 min^-1/uU/ml, p$lt;0.05). 3) The basal insulin concentration was higher in the hyperthyroid patients than in the normals(8.3+-2.4 vs. 4.6+-0.4 uU/ml, p=0.07). In addition, the insulin secretory response to a glucose load was increased in the hyperthyroid patients as evidenced by the peak plasma insulin level(168.2+-30.4 vs. 89.2+-13.9 uU/ml, p$lt;0.05) and by the total area under the insulin curve(2641.1+-443.2 vs. 1696.7+-204.3 min uU/ml, p$lt;0.05). These results clearly demonstrated that insulin sensitivity was impaired in these newly diagnosed hyperthyroid patients. However, glucose tolerance was maintained by the increased insulin secretion (J Kor Soc Endocrinol 9:108-114, 1994).

      • Surface Modification of Block Copolymer Through Sulfur Containing Plasma Treatment

        <P>Some of the important issues of block copolymer (BCP) as an application to the potential low cost next generation lithography are thermal stability and deformation during pattern transfer process in addition to defect density, line edge/width roughness, etc. In this study, sulfur containing plasma treatment was used to modify the BCP and the effects of the plasma on the properties of plasma treated BCP were investigated. The polystyrene hole pattern obtained from polystyrene polystyrene-block-poly(methyl methacrylate) (PS-b-PMMA) was initially degraded when the polystyrene hole was annealed at 190 degrees C for 15 min. However, when the hole pattern was treated using sulfur containing plasmas using H2S or SF6 up to 2 min, possibly due to the sulfurization of the polystyrene hole surface, no change in the hole pattern was observed after the annealing even though there is a slight change in hole shapes during the plasma treatment. The optimized plasma treated polystyrene pattern showed the superior characteristics as the mask layer by showing better thermal stability, higher chemical inertness, and higher etch selectivity during plasma etching.</P>

      • Development of electrochemical biosensor for detection of pathogenic microorganism in Asian dust events

        <P><B>Abstract</B></P> <P>We developed a single-walled carbon nanotubes (SWCNTs)-based electrochemical biosensor for the detection of <I>Bacillus subtilis,</I> one of the microorganisms observed in Asian dust events, which causes respiratory diseases such as asthma and pneumonia. SWCNTs plays the role of a transducer in biological antigen/antibody reaction for the electrical signal while 1-pyrenebutanoic acid succinimidyl ester (1-PBSE) and ant-<I>B. subtilis</I> were performed as a chemical linker and an acceptor, respectively, for the adhesion of target microorganism in the developed biosensor. The detection range (10<SUP>2</SUP>–10<SUP>10</SUP> CFU/mL) and the detection limit (10<SUP>2</SUP> CFU/mL) of the developed biosensor were identified while the response time was 10 min. The amount of target <I>B. subtilis</I> was the highest in the specificity test of the developed biosensor, compared with the other tested microorganisms (<I>Staphylococcus aureus</I>, <I>Flavobacterium psychrolimnae</I>, and <I>Aquabacterium commune</I>).         In this paper, we propose an efficient large item generation algorithm that overcomes the problem of the existing algorithm for making large items from quantitative attributes. The proposed algorithm splits dataset into variable size of intervals by min_split_support and merges the intervals according to the support of each interval. It reflects characteristic of data to generated large items and can generate finer large items than the existing algorithm. It is shown through the performance evaluation that our proposed algorithm outperforms the existing algorithm.

      • High-performance Liquid Chromatographic Analysis for Quantitation of Marker Compounds of Artemisia capillaris Thunb

        Two stable high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) methods were developed that could quantitatively analyze 10 major marker compounds of Artemisia capillaris Thunb and could also distinguish among `Injinho` and `Myeon-injin` and `Haninjin`--A. capillaris collected in autumn, A. capillaris collected in spring and A. iwayomogi, which can be misused as `Injinho` in Korean herbal drug markets. The first HPLC method was a reversed-phase chromatography using a C18 column with an isocratic solvent system of phosphoric acid (0.05%) and acetonitrile at the flow rate of 1.0 mL/min, ultraviolet (UV) detection wavelength at 254 nm and column temperature at 40°C. Calibration andquantitation were made by using acetaminophen as an internal standard (I.S-A) and chlorogenic acid (1) was determined within 20 min. The second HPLC method was a reversed-phase chromatography using a C18 column with a gradient solvent system of phosphate buffer (0.015 M, pH 6) and acetonitrile at the flow rate of 1.0 mL/min, UV detection wavelength at 254 nm and column temperature at 40°C. Calibration and quantitation were made by using ethylparaben as an internal standard (I.S-B) and 3,5-di-O-caffeoylquinic acid (2), 3,4-di-O-caffeoylquinic acid (3), 4,5-di-O-caffeoylquinic acid (4), hyperoside (5), isoquercitrin (6), isorhamnetin 3-O-robinobioside (7), isorhamnetin-3-O-galactoside (8), isorhamnetin-3-O-glucoside (9) and scoparone (10) were determined within 60 min. Pattern recognitionanalysis of data from the 60 samples classified them clearly into three groups. These assay methods could be applied for QA/QC of A. capillaris and Artemisia iwayomogi.

        고온 호기법을 이용한 Poly Aluminum Chloride에 의해 응집된 조류의 분해특성

        공기유입속도가 2171 . m-3• min-1 이었을 경우, 고온 · 호기조를 이용하여 PAC로 응집 , 탈수된 조류의 분해 특성을 관찰한 결과 다음과 같이 요약할 수 있다.10% 폐 식용유의 혼합조건이 본 연구에서 최적 조건으로 용도는 55"C 이상을 나타내었고, 수분은 55%를 일정하게 유지하였으며. COz의 농도는 최고 3.7%. 투입 탄소량의 92%가 CO2-C로 변환하였다. 적정한 폐식용유의 혼합은 미생물의 활동을 활발하게 하였지만 과도한 혼합은수분증발로건조상태로되었으며 오히려 분해 활성에 저해 영향을주었다. 처리가종료된 담체는고농도의 알루미늄이 축적되어 있으므로 별도의 처리가요구된다. The biodegradation of algae coagulated with poly aluminum chlorideCPAC) was investigated by using the thermophilic oxic process. The compositions of coagulated a1gae were 83.5% of water content. 24.6% of ash. 32% of organic carbon with in tota1 solid. respectively. In present study. food waste oil was used for the increment of ca10rie of mixtures in order to accelate the microbia1 activity. As a resu1t. the maximum temperature of mixtures was higher than 50"C when the mi피ng ratio of food oil was over 10%. However the temperature indicated the lower than 50"C when conditions of no mi잉ng with waste food 이1. and 5% of mixing ratio. Therefore. the optimum condition was 10% of the mixing ration at 217 l . m-3• min-1 of air supply rate. The conversion efficiency of carbon was highest as 92% at the optimum condition. And then water was eva1uated from imxture without accumulation at 10% of mixing ratio. The thermophilic oxic process well conducted that is good process for the treatment of waste a1gae without effluents however it has to consider the retreatment of accumu1ated aluminum in the reactor.

        한국 중앙행정기관 인적자원 비교분석 : 노무현.이명박.박근혜.문재인 정부를 중심으로

        이 연구는 한국 중앙정부의 인적자원의 정량적 수준을 비교분석하는 글이다. 정부조직개 편이 빈번했던 한국 정부는 부처 이름마저 혼동될 정도로 복잡했는데, 21세기 초반에 존재한 4개 정부(노무현・이명박・박근혜・문재인)의 인적자원의 수준을 살펴봄으로써 그 변동상황도 일부 확인하고자 한다. 비교를 위해 세 가지 기준, 즉 인력 규모, 중위직(5급) 수준, 최고위직(장・차관급) 수준을 세웠는데, 이것들은 인력 분포의 높이와 넓이를 보여준 다. 분석결과, 법무부, 고용노동부, 외교부 등 22개 부처의 총 정원이 꾸준히 증가했고, 추세적 순증까치 합치면 총 34개 부처에서 파킨슨의 법칙 등이 확인된 것으로 나타났다. 또한 국가보훈처, 고용노동부, 법무부 등 15개 부처의 중위직(5급) 수도 꾸준히 증가했고, 추세적 순증까치 합치면 총 33개 부처에서의 순증 양상도 확인되었다. 여기서 특이점은, 외형적으로 인력규모가 줄어든 부처마저도 중위직 수만큼은 순증 양상을 보였다는 점인데, ‘작은 정부’를 논하는 데 있어서 유의점이 있음을 보여주거니와, 관료제 내부의 인력 증감의 실질적 이면이 존재함을 알려준다는 데 의의가 있다. 이 논문은 이러한 점에서 이론 및 실무양 측면에서 함의하는 바가 있다. The purpose of this study is to quantitatively compare and analyze the level of human resources of the Korean central government. In the 21st century, the Korean government, which frequently reorganized, was so complicated that even the names of ministries were confused that it wanted to help people understand the changes in terms of materials by quantitative look at the human resources of the four governments(Roh Moo-hyun, Lee Myung-bak, Park Geun-hye and Moon Jae-in) in the early 20 years of the 21st century. In this regard, three comparison criteria were established to quantitatively compare the human resource level of the four central government agencies. There are three levels of simple personnel size, median proportion, and highest level, which show the height and width of the workforce distribution, respectively. According to the analysis, the total quota of 22 ministries, including the Ministry of Justice, the Ministry of Employment and Labor and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and 12 ministries, including the Board of Audit and Inspection and the Ministry of Patriots, were confirmed as Parkinson s law. In addition, the number of mid-level positions at 15 ministries, including the Ministry of Patriots and Veterans Affairs, the Ministry of Employment and Labor, and the Ministry of Justice, increased steadily, and a total of 33 ministries, including 18 ministries, including the Board of Audit and Inspection, Ministry of Legislation, and Ministry of Food and Drug Safety, which showed a net increase, were also confirmed. What is unusual is that even some ministries, whose total quota has decreased due to social structure changes, showed a net increase in the number of mid-level positions. This not only shows that there may be pitfalls in discussing small government based only on the size of the workforce, but it also reminds us that it is necessary to carefully look at the other side of the bureaucracy s deception or actual manpower increase in relation to the increase or decrease of manpower and reorganization. In this regard, this thesis has many implications both in theory and in practice.

        Purification and Characterization of Helicobacter pylori ${\gamma}$-Glutamyltranspeptidase

        Gamma-glutamyltranspeptidase (GGT) was purified to electrophoretic homogeneity from the cell extract of H. pylori. The purified enzyme consisted of heavy and light subunits with molecular weights of 38 kDa and 21 kDa, respectively. N-terminal amino acid sequence of heavy and light subunits revealed that H. pylori GGT was processed into 3 parts for a signal peptide of 27 amino acid residues, a heavy subunit of 352 residues, and a light subunit of 188 residues during translation. The reaction rate for hydrolysis of ${\gamma}$-GpNA was 84.4 ${\mu}mol/min$ per milligram of protein, and that for the ${\gamma}$-glutamyl transfer from ${\gamma}$-GpNA to gly-gly was 23.8 ${\mu}mol/min$ per milligram of protein. The apparent Km values of H. pylori GGT for ${\gamma}$-glutamyl compounds were on the order of $10^{-3}$ to $10^{-4}$ M and those for acceptor peptides and amino acids were on the order of $10^{-1}$ to $10^{-2}$ M. The GGT protein kept approximately 80% of the initial enzymatic activity on incubation at $60^{\circ}C$ for 15 min. The optimum temperature and pH for reactions of both hydrolysis and transpeptidation were $40^{\circ}C$ and 9.0, respectively. The transpeptidation and hydrolysis reactions catalyzed by H. pylori GGT were strongly inhibited by L-Gln and moderately inhibited by L-Ala, L-Ser, ${\beta}$-chloro-L-Ala, and L-Glu. These results demonstrated that the biochemical properties of H. pylori GGT are different from those of other bacterial GGTs. Further, H. pylori GGT might degrade glutathione in the gastric mucous layer of humans if the enzyme could be secreted in the bacterial niches.
