Conventional radiotherapy or chemotherapy for the long-term survival of patients with lung cancer is still difficult for treatment in metastatic and advanced tumors. Therefore, the safe and effective approaches to the treatment of lung cancer are needed. In this study, the effect of delivered eukaryotic translation initiation factor 4E (eIF4E)-binding protein 1 (4E-BP1) on lung cancer progression was evaluated. Recombinant adeno-associated virus (rAAV)-M3/4E-BP1 was delivered into 6-week-old K-ras<SUP>LA1</SUP> lung cancer model mice through a nose-only inhalation system twice a week for 4 weeks. Long-term repeated delivery of 4E-BP1 effectively reduced tumor progression in the lungs of K-ras<SUP>LA1</SUP> mice. Reduction of eIF4E by overexpression of 4E-BP1 resulted in suppression of cap-dependent protein expression of basic fibroblast growth factor (bFGF or FGF-2) and vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF). In addition, delivered 4E-BP1 inhibited the proliferation of lung cancer cells in K-ras<SUP>LA1</SUP> mice model. Our results suggest that long-term repeated viral delivery of 4E-BP1 may provide a useful tool for designing lung cancer treatment.
Solubility of oxcarbazepine in eight solvents within the temperature range T=(288.15-308.15)K

In this study, the solubility of oxcarbazepine in pure methanol, ethanol, 1-propanol, 2-propanol, 1-butanol, acetone, acetonitrile, and tetrahydrofuran was analysed across the temperature range of 288.15-308.15K under atmospheric pressure by using a solid-liquid equilibrium method. The experimental values obtained data were correlated using the modified Apelblat model at each temperature. The mole fraction solubility of oxcarbazepine in all eight pure solvents increased gradually in a temperature-dependent manner. The highest mole fraction solubility of 3.08x10<SUP>-3</SUP> at 308.15K was observed for tetrahydrofuran, followed by acetone (1.82x10<SUP>-3</SUP> at 308.15K), acetonitrile (1.22x10<SUP>-3</SUP> at 308.15K), methanol (1.11x10<SUP>-3</SUP> at 308.15K), ethanol (6.17x10<SUP>-4</SUP> at 308.15K), 1-butanol (6.17x10<SUP>-4</SUP> at 308.15K), 1-propanol (6.16x10<SUP>-4</SUP> at 308.15K), and 2-propanol (4.13x10<SUP>-4</SUP> at 308.15K). The experimental solubility in all solvents correlated well with that calculated using the modified Apelblat equation across the temperature range of (288.15-308.15)K. Therefore, the experimental solubility and correlation equations established in this study could be useful during the crystallization/purification, pre-formulation, and formulation stages of oxcarbazepine production in laboratories and related industries.

<P>Summary</P><P>Background</P><P>The hyper-sensitivity reaction of IgE, with its high-affinity receptors (FcϵRI), is central to the phenomenon of atopic diseases.</P><P>Objective</P><P>To evaluate the genetic effects of non-synonymous single-nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) of FcϵRI on intermediate phenotypes of asthma, i.e. atopy and airway hyper-responsiveness (AHR), in the Korean general population.</P><P>Subjects and methods</P><P>Atopy and AHR were evaluated in a cohort of 2055 subjects, aged 10–18 years, using skin prick tests (SPTs) for common aeroallergens and total serum IgE and methacholine bronchial provocation tests. All FcϵRI-α, FcϵRI-β, and FcϵRI-γ gene exons of 24 healthy subjects were sequenced to locate informative non-synonymous SNPs (minor allele frequency >2%). Informative SNPs were then scored, using the high-throughput single base extension method. Relative risk (RR) was determined by multiple logistic regression analysis, after adjusting for confounding factors. The functional relevance of non-synonymous SNPs was analysed using the sorting intolerant from tolerant (SIFT) program.</P><P>Results</P><P>The SNP search found only one informative non-synonymous SNP in FcϵRI-β: E237G (minor allele frequency=0.21). The positive rate of AHR was lower among subjects with the 237<SUP>*</SUP>E allele than among those with 237<SUP>*</SUP>G [RR (95% confidence interval)=0.41 (0.19–0.89); <I>P</I>=0.01]. However, the E237G substitution was not associated with either a positive SPT response or total serum IgE levels. Sequence evolution analysis predicted that the E237G variation is an intolerant amino acid substitution, with functional importance.</P><P>Conclusion</P><P>In the Korean general population, AHR is significantly associated with the E237G polymorphism of FcϵRI-β, which results in an intolerant amino acid substitution.</P>

Recently, it is developed a variety of electrical contacts on the switch. The contacts will be processed for 2.30 of embossing type as a three-cladding material (Ag-Cu-Fe) used. Embossing type of electrical contacts are working to increase the hardness without plate thickness of the material and local plastic deformation of the shape in process. In this study, we are made of contact in total of 5 spot embossing and measured outside diameter, depth in jig pin by using microscope, respectively. We were found that the important of height, outside diameter of embossing because of spot process for joined bimetal and contact in processing of manufacture thermostat. The pin was formed by the processing for HSS material by E.D.M (electrical discharge machine)
LOCAL KARLOVITZ NUMBERS AT EXTINCTION FOR VARIOUS FUELS IN COUNTERFLOW PREMIXED FLAMES

<P>Extinction characteristics of stretched premixed flames have been numerically investigated by adopting a detailed chemistry in an axisymmetric counterflow for various fuels. The Karlovitz number, defined as the ratio of the characteristic one-dimensional reaction time for an unstretched premixed flame to the characteristic flow time of the inverse of flame stretch rate, exhibited large spread at extinction conditions. To test a universal extinction criterion that can be applied irrespective of fuel type, equivalence ratio, pressure, and initial temperature, a local Karlovitz number was defined as the ratio of the local reaction time to the characteristic flow time of stretched flames. The result showed that the local Karlovitz number based on the flame thickness at extinction can be reasonably approximated as 1.1, irrespective of equivalence ratio for the fuels tested including alkane (methane and propane), alkene (ethylene), alkyne (acetylene), alcohol (methanol), and hydrogen. By analyzing existing experimental data for premixed flames of methane and propane, the measured local Karlovitz numbers at extinction have also been found to have a near constant value. The local Karlovitz number was relatively insensitive to pressure variation up to 10 atm and initial temperature up to 1000 K. The present results implied that extinction occurs when the ratio of the characteristic flow time to the local characteristic reaction time exceeds a near constant value for the fuels tested irrespective of equivalence ratio, pressure, and initial temperature.</P>
Optical Characterization of Self-Organized InAs Quantum Dots Grown by Molecular Beam Epitaxy

We present experimental results concerning optical characterizations in self-organized InAs/GaAs quantum dot (QD) structures grown by molecular beam epitaxy. The luminescence measurements are performed in a closed cycle refrigerator in a temperature range of 17 to 280 K. The redshifts for the luminescence emission from the QDs occurs concurrently with narrowing of the full width at half maximum (FWHM) as a result of thermal perturbation. The existence of the QD luminescence signal at room temperature indicates an evidence for QD formation by lateral confinement. Furthermore, QDs grown on GaAs (311)A substrate exhibit a smaller FWHM than those on GaAs (100) substrate.
제주매조의 주당본수에 따른 주요형질 사초수량 및 조성분 변화

본 연구는 제주지역에서 주당 본수(1, 2, 3, 4, 5 및 6본)에 따른 제주매조(Setaria italica Beauvois)의 주요형질, 수량성 및 사료가치를 검토하고, 가축의 조사료로 이용하기 위하여 2000년 5월 13일부터 8월 14일까지 수행하였으며, 그 결과를 요약하면 다음과 같다. 이삭 출현일수는 83일에서 87일로 주당본수간에 큰 차이가 없었으나, 본수가 많을수록 이삭출현일수는 지연되는 경향이었다. 초장은 주당 1본에서 183.3㎝였던 것이 주당 3본에서 187.1㎝로 길어졌으나, 본수가 그 이상으로 증가되면 점차적으로 짧아져서 주당 6본에서 초장은 163.9㎝였다. 엽장, 엽폭, 엽수, 절수, 경직경 및 엽록소 측정치는 주당 본수가 1본에서 6본으로 많아질수록 왜소한 경향이었다. 생초수량, 건물수량, 조단백질 수량 및 TDN 수량은 주당 3본 파종구에서 각각 55.02MT/ha, 15.38MT/ha, 1.68MT/ha, 7.18MT/ha으로 가장 높았으나, 그 이상과 그 이하의 본수에서는 점차적으로 감수되었고, 주당 6본에서는 TDN 수량이 4.07MT/ha로 감수되었다. 주당 본수가 1본에서 6본으로 많아짐에 따라 조단백질 함량은 10.4%에서 12.0%로, 조지방 함량은 1.5%에서 1.6%로, 가용무질소물은 36.8%에서 38.2%로, TDN 함량은 45.9%에서 48.2%로 직선적으로 증가된 반면 조회분 함량은 9.2%에서 8.4%로, 조섬유 함량은 36.2%에서 33.7%로 감소되는 경향이었다. Jeju Itallian millet was grown at six plants per hill (1,2,3,4,5,6) from May 13 to Aug. 14, 2000 at Jeju island to determine influence of plants per hill on agronomic characters, forage yield and quality. Days to heading was increased as number of plants per hill was decreased. Plant height with three plants per hill (187.1㎝) was the longest, while with six plants per hill (163.9㎝) was the shortest. Leaf length, leaf width, the number of leaves, the number of nodes, stem diameter and SPAD reading values gradually decreased as the number of plants per hill was increased. Fresh forage yield, dry matter (DM) yield, crude protein (CP) yield and total digestible nutrient (TDN) yield were the greatest (55.02, 15.38, 1.68, 7.18MT/ha) at the three plants per hill. TDN gradually decreased to 4.07MT/ha in six plants per hill. Crude protein content increased from 10.4 to 12.0%, ether extract content from 1.5 to 1.6%, nitrogen free extract content from 36.8 to 38.2 and TDN content from 45.9 to 48.2%, but crude fiber content decreased from 36.2 to 33.7% and crude ash content from 9.2 to 8.4% as the number of plants per hill was increased.
