        Distribution of the Fairy Pitta (Pitta nympha) in the South Korea: A focus on protected areas

        국내 팔색조(Pitta nympha) 분포 현황을 알아보고자 전국 국립공원 등 보호지역 중심으로 총 19개 지역을 조사하였고, 전문가 네트워크를 통해 자료를 보강하였다. 전국 19개 지역을 조사한 결과 북한산, 지리산 등 내륙지역 7개 국립공원에서는 팔색조가 확인되지 않았고, 경남 거제, 남해, 해남, 장흥 고흥 등 남해안과 인접한 12개 지역에서 팔색조 서식이 확인되었다. 또한 전문가 네트워크를 통해 수집한 팔색조 출현 위치 정보 82건을 분석한 결과, 전국 8개 광역지자체 모두 팔색조 서식이 확인되었고, 내륙지역(26.8%)보다 해안지역(73.2%)에서 더 많이 출현하였다. 연구 결과를 종합해보면, 우리나라의 팔색조는 주로 제주도와 남해안 지역을 중심으로 많이 분포하며, 그 보다 적은 개체수가 내륙 지역에 넓게 분포하고 있는 것으로 나타났다. The present study investigated the current distribution of Fairy Pitta (Pitta nympha) in South Korea. A total of 19 study areas, including protected areas such as national and provincial parks in South Korea were surveyed, and additional data obtained from an expert network. According to the results, Fairy Pitta was absent in seven inland national parks, including Mt. Bukhan and Chiri parks. Fairy Pitta inhabited 12 areas near the southern coast of South Korea, including Geoje, Namhae, Haenam, Jangheung, Goheung, and Gyeongnam Province. The analysis results of 82 datasets obtained from experts with regard to the locations where Fairy Pitta have been spotted showed that the bird inhabits all the eight metropolitan regions in South Korea, and is more frequently spotted in coastal areas (73.2%) than in inland areas (26.8%). The findings demonstrate that Fairy Pitta is mainly distributed in Jeju Island and the southern coast of South Korea, and is distributed in inland areas at relatively lower numbers.

        Silver powders have been extensively studied as an anode active material for lithium secondary batteries. In the present study, a unique attempt is made to develop silver negative electrode by slurry method, because the silver electrode is a good candidate to replace the commercial graphite electrode for lithium rechargeable batteries. Silver electrode was prepared and its electrochemical properties were characterized gradual increasing test state of charge (GISOC) analysis method. Charge-discharge performance indicates that the initial charge potential range of Li/Ag cells has showed similar behaviors compared with Li/Graphite system and the irreversible capacity facd is also higher than Li/Graphite system.

        마찰시험기를 이용한 치과교정용 설측 브라켓과 호선의 마찰력 비교

        Frictional force tends to rapidly increase as the relative angle between the bracket slot and the archwire increases beyond critical contact angle. The purpose of this study was to measure the frictional forces between lingual orthodontic brackets and orthodontic archwires with a friction tester (FPR 2000, Rhesca, Japan). The influence of the presence of artificial saliva was determined additionally. Two different lingual brackets (FJT: Fujita, Japan; ORM: Ormco, USA) and one labial standard bracket (CTL:TOMY, Japan) as a control were used in this study. Archwires of three different alloys (SS: Stainless steel, Ormco, USA; TM: β-Titanium, Ormco, USA; EL: Cobalt-chrome, RMO, USA) with 0.016 x 0.022 inch and 0.017 x 0.025 inch were used in this study. Each bracket-archwire couple was tested with a friction tester in the dry and artificial saliva environments. Each measurement was conducted with a angular velocity of 0.1 rpm for 90 seconds under the normal force of 100gf at 25 ℃ for the dry and 34 ℃ for the artificial saliva environment. For SS and EL archwires, frictional force was greater with FJT bracket than with ORM bracket (p<0.01). Compared with SS and TM archwires, 0.016 x 0.022 inch EL archwire showed the greatest frictional forces with two lingual brackets (p<0.01). There were significant differences in frictional force between the dry and artificial saliva environment (p<0.05), however, the effects of artificial saliva were different depending on the bracket-archwire combinations. Experimental critical contact angles were greater than theoretically calculated values.

      • PC12세포에서 Reserpine에 의한 Preproenkephalin 유전자 발현의 조절

        In cultured PCl2 celIs, prepronkephalin gene expression was studied by measuring preproenkephalin mRNA levels as well as enkephalin content after the treatment of reserpine. Reserpine(0.5 uM) elicited and increased enkephalin peptide levels within 6-24 hrs, which was not inhibited by cycloheximide(2ug /ml), a protein synthesis inhibitor. In addition, reserpine-induced increase of enkephalin was not inhinited by dactinomycin(5ug / ml), which was found to decrease preproenkephalin mRNA. When preproenkephalin mRNA was measured by Northern blot hybridization with cDNA probe, reserpine elicited a slightly increased preproenkephalin mRNA in PCl2 cells as well as in the rat adrenal glands. From the present experimental data it is thought that reserpine-induced enhancement of cellular enkephalin content in cultured PCl2 cells may be mediated through the post translational processing along with a slightly increased transcription.

        치성 각화낭에서 매복치 동반 여부에 따른 Ki-67 발현 비교

        Odontogenic keratocysts(OKCs) are frequently associated with erupted or impacted tooth. In such instances, the radiographic features simulate those of a dentigerous cyst. The purpose of this study was to evaluate a comparative immunohistochemical expression of Ki-67 as a proliferative marker in the OKC associated with or without impacted tooth. In addition, we have also been investigated with regard to the proliferative activity comparing the unilocular and multilocular varieties of the OKC. The material for this study consisted of thirty-two cases of OKCs (OKC with impacted tooth, n=16; OKC without impacted tooth, n=16) and ten cases of dentigerous cysts as a comparison. The results revealed that the proliferative activity of OKCs with impacted tooth was higher than those of dentigerous cysts. However, there was no correlation between Ki-67 immunoreactivity and association with or without impacted tooth in 32 cases of OKCs. In addition, this present study showed that there was no correlation between the unilocular and multilocular varieties of the OKCs imn proliferative activity.

        사지의 급성동맥 색전증에 대한 응급동맥 색전제거술

        Acute arterial occlusion of the extremities is often a surgical emergency and is due mostly to arterial embolus. It has infrequently been reported in the emergency department. Cardiac embolism is most commonly the result of atrial fibrillation secondary to valvular heart disease followed by ischemic heart disease. The emergency arterial embolectomy by Fogarty balloon catheter works well when the cause of occlusion is cardiac embolus obstructing normal vessels in a patient with valvular heart disease. Recently we met some patients with acute critical ischemia of the extremities due to arterial emboli in our emergency department. On physical examination, they all had symptoms of 5"P"s(pain, pallor, pulselessness, paresthesia, paralysis). After emergency arterial embolect omy, immediate improvement was observed in all patients. They were discharged within 1 week. We report our experiences with the review of literatures.

      • 과도한 운동으로 발생한 횡문근융해증에 의한 급성신부전증 1예

        Rhabdomyolysis may be defined as a clinical and laboratory syndrome which releases muscle cell contents into the plasma, such as creatine phosphokinase, due to skeletal muscle injuries. It can be the result of many diverse causes including muscle disease, ischemia, genetic disorder, metabolic disorder, infectious disease, drugs, comatose state, trauma or vigorous exercise that can lead to acute renal failure as a complication. Since first reported in 1941, rhabdomyolysis-induced acute renal failure has been documented many times, and the major causes of this disease are carbon monoxide poisoning, snake bites, and etc in Korea Reports of acute renal failure after exercise-related rhabdomyolysis with myoglobinemia are rare. We report a case of acute renal failure caused by exercise-related rhabdomyolysis in a 20 year old man.

      • 9,10-Dimethyl-1,2-Benzanthrance 투여 후 백서 뇌하수체 Prolactin 분비세포의 변화

        An immunohistochemical study on the prolactin cells was carried out to investigate the change of number of prolactin-secreting cells in 9,10-dimethy1-1,2-benzanthracene (DMBA)-treated rats. Female Sprague-Dawley rats were givenDMBA suspended in sesame oil by gastric intubation using oral zonde needle. At 70 days of age, each animal received a single feeding of DMBA(12mg/100 gm body weight). Five rats bearing DABA-induced mammary carcinoma and ten rats not bearing mammary carcinoma after DMBA adminstration were used as experimental group. Nine rats were given sesame oil at 70 days of age, and were used as control group. Representative transverse sections of the pituitary gland from each rat were immunostained with rabbit anti-rat prolactin by Avidin-Biotin-Peroxidase Complex(ABC) method. Following results were obtained : 1. Prolactin-secreting cells were more frequently observed in the peripheral region than in the central region of adenohypophysis, in both DMBA-treated and untreated rats. 2. The number of prolactin-secreting cells of DMBA-treated rat bearing mammary carcinomas was significantly greater than that of DMBA-treated rats not bearing mammary carcinoma. 3. The number of prolactin-secreting cells of DMBA-treated rats was significantly greater than that of untreated rats. Based on the findings above, it is assumed that mammary carcinoma of DMBA-treated rats is induced by increase of prolactin-secreting cells in pituitary gland.
