      • An Approach to the Improvement of EFL Reading Comprehension - Through Fast Reading and Meaning Grasping

        Im, Byung-Bin. 2001. 속독과 이해학습을 통한 영어 독해력 향상방법. 언어연구 17-2, 245-265. 독해력의 바람직한 정의란 이해와 속독의 균형을 유지해야 한다. 본 연구에서는 이와 같은 독해력의 정의에 기초하여 영어 독해력 향상을 위한 6가지 중요 요소(읽기속도, 훑어읽기, 논리구조 파악, 어휘학습, 통사구조 이해, 문화배경 및 세상지식)를 학습 활동으로 처치하여 대학의 교양영어 수강생을 대상으로 실험을 실시하고 그 결과를 검증하였다. 실험 결과분석에 의하면, 본 연구에서 제시한 독해력 학습방법이 종래의 일반적인 독해력 지도방법보다 훨씬 더 효과적인 것으로 입증되었다. 따라서 영어 독해력 교수학습시에 본 연구에서 제안한 것처럼 속독과 이해훈련을 통한 종합적인 독해력 지도방법이 한국의 영어교육 상황에서 효과적인 대안으로 채택될 필요성이 있다.         Algal bioassay 에 의한 조류생장 제한영양염류 결정

        Determination of Limiting Nutrient for Algal Growth by Algal Bioassay. Oh, Hee-Mock, Seog June Lee, Seong-Bin Kim, Mi- Kyung Park, Byung-Dae Yoon and Do-Han Kim (Environmental Microbiology Research Unit, Korea Research Institute of Bioscience and Biotechnology, Taejon 305-333, Korea and Water Resources Research Institute, Korea Water Resources Corporation, Taejon 305-390, Korea) Water quaiity and algal growth potential (AGP) using Microcystis aeruginosa were investigated from April to September 1997 in Daechung Reservoir. Secchi disk transparency was 1.1 m in August. Chlorophyll-a concentrations were higher than 10㎍/l at all samples. Total phosphorus concentration was in a range of 0.020∼0.027mg/l which is at the approximate value of 0.03 mg/l, the general critical level of eutrophication. These results indicate that Daechung Reservoir is in an eutrophic state except some temporary times and restricted sites. Phosphorus uptake rate of M. aeruginosa was higher in the water from the epilimnion than in the hypolimnion and also higher under light condition than under dark condition. Therefore, phosphorus uptake rate appears to depend on cellular phosphorous content and light condition, a meaning of endergonic process. Phosphorus was the most frequently limiting nutrient: phosphorus was limiting algal gowth in April and May, nitrogen, phosphorus and trace elements were the limiting factors for algae in August, and trace elements in September. If a fast growing alga, M, aeruginosa, is used as a test organism for assaying AGP, in vivo fluorescence instead of dry weight can be measured for algal biomass and incubation period can be reduced from traditional 14 days to 7 days.

        한국인 주요우울장애 환자에서 혈중 ACTH, Cortisol 농도와 해밀턴 우울 평가 척도의 신체증상 항목과의 상관관계

        Objectives:Hypothalamic-Pituitary-Adrenocortical(HPA) system dysregulation plays an important role in the pathophysiology of major depressive disorder. Medically unexplained somatic symptoms comprised the predominant complaints of korean patients with major depressive disorder. It might be related to dysregulation of HPA system and somatic symptoms. The aim of this study was to investigate the association between Hamilton Depression Rating Scale severity and the Plasma Adrenocorticotropic Hormone(ACTH) & Serum Cortisol level in Korean patients with major depressive disorder. Methods:Our study design was prospective. A total 111 hospitalized patients with major depressive disorder (DSM-IV) at Anam Hospital, Korea University Medical Center between Jan 2009 and May 2011 were selected. Hamilton Depression Rating Scale was measured by psychiatrist. Plasma ACTH, Serum Cortisol levels were analyzed at the time of admission. Results:There are significant correlations(p<0.05) between Hamilton Depression Rating Scale of somatic component(HAM-D 11-15 item) and Plasma ACTH and Serum Cortisol level. However, other HAM-D sub items were not significantly correlated with Plasma ACTH and Serum Cortisol level except somatic component. Conclusion:Our Study results suggest that hyperactivity of HPA axis might be correlation with somatic symptoms in korean patients with major depressive disorder.

      • 무용전공대학생의 무용참가정도와 자아개념에 관한 연구

        The purpose of this research is to investigate, with reference to majoring-in-dance undergraduates' participating in a dance, the influence upon self-concept. The subjects were 283 undergraduates who are majoring at dance in senior colleges of Seoul and Gyeonggi province as of 2001. As for a self-concept questionnaire, on the basis of the hypothetical model of Shavelson, Hubner and Stanton(1976) the measuring and testing paper used by Kang Sin-wook(1992), Kang Jin-hong(1998) and Jin Seong-yong(1999) was finally used by being modified and supplemented to suit the purpose of this research. The factor-analysis results show 54.5% and its reliability coefficient was .8957∼.8423. For data processing, Correlation Analysis and Multiple Regression Analysis were carried out, and the results are as follows. First, majoring-in-dance undergraduates' degree of participating in a dance did not have an influence on a social self. Second, their degree of participating in a dance had an influence upon a cognitive self. In more detail, the variable of participation terms had a statistically significant influence at p<.001 level, but participation frequency and participation intensity did not exert a significant influence. Third, their degree of participating in a dance had an influence upon a physical self partly. Concretely, the variable of terms of participating in a dance had a statistically significant influence at p<.01 level. However, participation frequency and participation intensity did not have a significant influence.

        사범대학 영어교육과 교육의 발전방향 : 교육 과정 모형 개발

        Nowadays there seem to be a great number of potential problems to be solved so that we may survive and succeed in the current age of international competition power. This is also true of educational matters for departments of English education in Teachers Colleges. This study aims to propose an optimal curriculum model commensurate with the educational goal for departments of English education. The fundamental principle of the educational goal is to raise students as qualified secondary school teachers capable of performing their tasks skillfully in the future. This goal is observed in developing a curriculum model according to the following rationales : (1) students should acquire / learn the language proficiency of 4 basic skills for efficient communication ; (2) the specialization of an individual major field .should be considered ; (3) a systematic planning of teaching & learning major subjects should be administered reciprocally ; and (4) step-by-step procedures for improving a curriculum are better than revolutionary ones causing realistic reactions. In this curriculum model ,two main factors are emphasized. One is to develop students' foreign language proficiency, and the other is to specialize major subjects essential to the qualification of becoming efficient foreign-language teachers. Thus subjects such as languageusing skills and language teaching & learning practices including its theories consist of main aspects supported by subsidiary areas of linguistics and literature.

      • 서남해안 습지 군락의 식물사회학적 연구

        서남해안의 염습지식생을 Braun-Blanquet의 방법 (1964)에 따라 구분하였다. 조사지역의 식물군락은 다음과 같이 구분되었다; (1) 퉁퉁마디 군락(Salicornia herbaceae community)을 포함하여 9가지 해안간석지 식물군락; (2) 매자기 군락(Scirpus fluviatilis community)을 포함하여 5가지 염소택지 식물군락; (3) 띠 군락(Imperata cylindrica var. koenigii community)을 포함한 10가지 사구식물군락으로 구분되었다. 본 연구에서 해안 염습지에 염습지 식생의 대상 분포(zonation)가 분명하게 나타났으며 생육지 유형은 염습지 식생의 구분을 잘 설명하였다. The wetland vegetation of southwestern coast in Korea was classified by Braun-Blanquet's method (1964). The plant communities of the study area were classified as follows: (1) 9 salt marsh communities including Salicornia herbacea communities (2) 5 salt swamp communities including Scirpus fluviatilis communities and (3) 10 sand dune communities including Imperata cylindrica communities. In this study, the zonation of wetland plants within and across coastal wetlands type is quite evident and the types of habitat account well for the classification of coastal vegetation.

      • 殘留應力을 考慮한 鎔接材의 疲勞龜裂 進展擧動에 關한 硏究

        The effect of welding residual stress on the initiation and propagation of fatigue crack is investigated so as to study the fatigue behavior in welding residual stress field. Especially, the relation between welding residual stress and fatigue crack opening behavior is investigated and the redistribution of residual stress as a fatigue crack propagates is examined. Following results are obtained. 1) In case of the load range is constant, as the stress ratio is changing to 0.1, 0.33, 0.5 the propagation life is constant but the growth life decreases. And than, when maximum load or minimum load is constant, as the stress ratio increases the growth life and propagation life increase. 2) The fatigue crack propagations rate da/dN appears to accelerate when the stress intensity factor range ΔK is less than 15MPa-m^1/2. 3) The residual stress that is appeared by welding decreases after cutting. 4) Fatigue crack propagation ratio is affected by tensional and compressible residual stress at the initial time, but it's similar to the original in the more than 20mm of crack length.

        의미망 활동과 수준별 학습을 통한 영어 독해력 향상 방안 : Focusing on semantic mapping and leveled group activities

        This paper is to suggest the way to improve EFL reading skill through semantic mapping by leveled group activities. Semantic mapping is a categorical structuring of information in graphic forms or diagrams. It can be used to activate and organize background knowledge on topics in classrooms. For small group activities, the class is divided into higher leveled groups and lower leveled groups of four members based on their grades. The teaching process has three stages: Pre-reading, while-reading, and post-reading. In the pre-reading stage, students discuss what they know about the topic. They map ideas with a brainstorming technique. In the while-reading stage, they read the text about the topic. While they ar reading, they could ask some questions they might have and discuss the information in the text and categorize them with semantic mapping. In the post-reading stage, they discuss what they thought of the topic and add some information about the topic with semantic mapping. For the subjects of this study, third grade, middle school students were selected: 41 students for the experimental group and 35 students for the control group. The experimental period covered almost one semester from March to August, 2000. The results were as follows: 1) The students in the experimental group had higher scores in reading comprehension than those in the control group when semantic mapping was used; 2) The use of semantic mapping in reading comprehension was found to be much more effective in the higher leveled group than in the lower leveled group; 3) The results of questionnaires showed that many students became more interested and motivated in English, and semantic mapping helped them to participate positively in reading the English text. Thus, using semantic mapping by leveled group activities can be an effective alternative to traditional teaching methods for teachers who desire to improve reading skill in middle school students' English classes.

        수행평가의 이해와 적용

        Assessment can be defined as any method used to understand the current knowledge that a student possesses. Assessment may influence decisions about grades, placement, instructional needs, and curriculum. Therefore, the purpose of assessment is to identify how the students think and know, to diagnose the difficulties they face, and to reflect the result of assessment on teaching. But the traditional multiple-choice test failed to evaluate and teach higher-level thinking and problem-solving skills. In this context, performance assessment is being required as an alternative assessment to get better understanding about what the students can do as well as what they know. This article points out some weaknesses of traditional assessments. and comments on the theoretical background and necessity of performance assessment. And it presents more specific information about performance assessment and some examples. It is certain that performance assessment is student-centered and future-oriented. But performance assessment can't be the surest and best way of evaluating the students' abilities. We are just on the way of another experimental stage for improving teaching methodology. More supplementary analyses and further improvements are needed.

      • 만강경과 동진강의 염생식물군락 분포

        The coastal vegetation was classified by the Braun-Blanquet's phytosociological scheme and physicochemical properties of soil was also determined at the salt marsh of Mankyung and Dongjin river estuary. The vegetation of these areas was classified with 8 communities as followes Suaeda japonica, salicornia herbaceae, Phragmites longivalvis, Carex scabrifolia, Zoysia sinica, Aster tripolim, Suaeda asparagoides and Phacelurus latifolia community. Especially the zonations an annual and biennial halophytes were highly affected by surface soil.
