Response of Frankliniella occidentalis to Three HIPVs in Y-tube Olfactometer
Vol.2018 No.04
The western flower thrips, Frankliniella occidentalis (Pergande) (Thysanoptera: Thripidae), is an important pest of horticultural and agricultural crops worldwide. The repeated use of chemical insecticides resulted in the development of insecticide resistance. We evaluated response of F. occidentalis to three synthetic herbivore-induced plant volatiles (HIPVs), methyl salicylate, methyl anthranilate, and nonanal known as attractants of thrips’ natural enemy, in Y-tube olfactometer. Mated fed adult females of F. occidentalis showed lowest response rate to methyl salicylate than methyl anthranilate, and nonanal. These results show that methyl salicylate may act as repellent to F. occidentalis, and can be used as a component of push-pull strategies for the management of F. occidentalis.

In this paper, we developed a damage evaluation technique that can determine the damage location of a long-sized structure such as a cable-stayed bridge, and verified the performance of the developed technique through experiments. The damage assessment method aims to extract data that can evaluate the damage of the structure without the undamage data and can determine the damage location only by analyzing the response data of the structure. To complete this goal, we developed a damage assessment technique that considers variability based on the IMD theory, which is a statistical pattern recognition technique, to identify the damage location. To complete this goal, we developed a damage assessment technique that considers variability based on the IMD theory, which is a statistical pattern recognition technique, to identify the damage location. To evaluate the performance of the developed technique experimentally, cable damage experiments were conducted on model cable-stayed bridges. As a result, the damage assessment method considering variability automatically outputs the damageless data according to external force, and it is confirmed that the performance of extracting information that can determine the damage location of the cable through the analysis of the outputted damageless data and the measured damage data is shown.

<P>A new ferroelectric memory array on a glass substrate has been developed using In-Ga-Zn-O (IGZO) thin-film transistors (TFTs). Each memory cell is composed of two normal IGZO TFTs and a ferroelectric TFT (FeTFT). Poly(vinylidene fluoride-trifluoroethylene) [P(VDF-TrFE)] is employed as the gate dielectric layer of the FeTFT. All the fabrication processes were performed below 200°C. The fabricated memory successfully demonstrated disturb-free write/readout operation. The current ratio between the “1” and “0” states is about 104.</P>
