Corporate Meeting Destination Choice: The Effects of Organizational Structure
Ariffin, Ahmad Azrni M.,Ishak, Nor Khomar Korean Academy of Marketing Science 2006 마케팅과학연구 Vol.16 No.4
This study attempted to determine the influence of organizational structure on the novelty preference for corporate meeting destination choice. The three dimensions of structure incorporated were formalization, centralization and complexity. A total of 75 corporate meeting planners drawn from public listed services organizations were involved. The main method of data collection was questionnaire survey and multiple regression analysis was employed as the main statistical technique. The results revealed that both formalization and centralization were negatively correlated with novelty preference while complexity was positively correlated. However, only complexity contributed significantly to the prediction of novelty preference for corporate meeting destination choice. The main implication of this study is pertaining to the segmentation and targeting of the corporate meeting market. This study helped in bridging the gap between tourism marketing and organizational research. It also contributed by developing the measurement for novelty preference from the context of experiential marketing.

Kinetic study on the cleavage of N-methylphthalamic acid (NMPA) in mixed acidic aqueous-acetonitrile solvent reveals the formation of both phthalic anhydride (PAn) (through O-cyclization) and N-methylphthalimide (NMPT) (through N-cyclization). The formation of NMPT varies from $\sim$20% to $\sim$3% with the increase in the content of acetonitrile from 2 to 70% v/v. Pseudo first-order rate constants for the formation of PAn are more than 4-fold larger than those for the formation of NMPT at 2% v/v $CH_3CN$ in mixed aqueous solvents. Pseudo first-order rate constants for alkaline hydrolysis of NMPT reveal a nonlinear decrease with increase in the content of $CH_3CN$ in mixed aqueous solvents.
AN EVALUATION ON EFFECTIVENESS OF THE UNDERGRADUATES' TOURISM PROGRAMME
Roseni Ariffin,Chong Ting Ting,Roseline Anak Kok 세계문화관광학회 2007 Conference Proceedings Vol.8 No.0
This paper examines the effectiveness of tourism programme towards students' perceptions and expectations. A qualitative approach will be conducted to reveal students' judgment of the effectiveness of learning the subject that leads their expectations towards family, colleagues, lecturers, the school and other external factors. Results revealed will be essentially derived from the students' opinion of the concerned topic and issue. The objective of the study is to prepare undergraduates with prerequisite skills and talents in meeting the requirements in tourism market through improving the quality of tourism education in the university.

Background: To evaluate the effectiveness of isokinetic resistance training and aerobic walking in the patients with knee osteoarthritis on the basis of isokinetic strength (peak torque), pain and functional abilities. Methods: Thirty volunteers (N= 30), ages 40 to 65 years. Patients were randomly assigned to 3 groups: control (n= 10), isokinetic training group (n= 10) and aerobic walking group (n= 10). Subjects in the intervention groups underwent Isokinetic resistance training and aerobic walking for 12 weeks, 2 times per week, whereas subjects in control group underwent isokinetic testing at pre, mid and post test together with the intervention groups. Randomized Control Trial with repeated measure ANOVA was used. Results: There was signifi cant improvement (p<0.05) of peak torque in both intervention groups compared to control group. There was no signifi cant different (p>0.05) between the control and intervention groups in terms of pain score. In terms of physical function on the basis of WOMAC osteoarthritis index subscale, there was a signifi cant improvement (p<0.05) in both the intervention groups at mid and post test compared to the control group. Conclusions: The results suggest that with the isokinetic resistance training and aerobic walking used in this study, it is possible to improve muscle strength and physical function in patients with OA of the knee. The results also showed that extensive training involving a high number of repetitions and concentric contractions was safe, effective, and well tolerated for the patients with knee osteoarthritis.

Various techniques and approaches have been designed to synthesize precipitated calcium carbonate. We used a continuous sprayed-mist technique that induced spontaneous precipitation reaction of the droplets with the higher surface area when in contact with the gas. The effects of optimum reactant concentration, gas flow rate, and reactant feeding rate including reaction conditions were investigated. The effectiveness of the techniques was scrutinized by analyzing the resultant PCC characteristics, especially the particle phase morphology and size distribution using XRD, FTIR, and SEM. The variation of initial concentration of milk of lime with different gas flow rate was studied. Experimental results, as well as XRD and FTIR, indicated that all the products produced were favorable for the formation of calcite. SEM revealed that the morphologies of PCC were all rhombohedral and tended to adhere to each other (twinning). It was found that production of PCC by using spray-mist method is suitable for lower initial concentration of Ca(OH)2 and higher gas flow rate only.
Potential Dermatological Application on Asian Plants
Nor Hazwani Mohd Ariffin,Rosnani Hasham 한국생물공학회 2016 Biotechnology and Bioprocess Engineering Vol.21 No.3
Skin diseases are among some of the most common types of health problems faced in Malaysia, as reported by the World Health Organization (WHO). Correspondingly, research into the use of medicinal plants for skin disease treatment has become important. Through the ages, medicinal plants have been used widely to treat a variety of skin diseases. The demand for plant-based medicines is growing, as they are generally considered to be safer and less harmful than conventional allopathic drugs. This article reviews the potential of Asian plants to be epidermal protecting agents. There are eleven remarkable Asian plants that are known for their skin barrier protecting agent properties. Important studies have shown that natural products offer a rich potential source of epidermal protecting agents. Nevertheless, further surveys and clinical evidence are needed to establish the potential of identified species in contributing to the treatment of skin disease, especially atopic eczema.

The main purpose of this study was to gauge the patient satisfaction index and subsequently discuss the Importance-Performance (IP) matrix analysis of the inpatient services in the context of the private hospital setting. The Malaysian Customer Satisfaction Index Model was employed as the theoretical framework for the above purposes. This study involving 242 patients in Malaysian’s private healthcare sector used a Web-based survey as the main method of data collection. Partial least square structural equation modeling (PLS-SEM) was utilized for data analysis. Using Fornell et al. (1996)’s formula, the resulting patient satisfaction index was slightly lower than the “very satisfied” category, the target level required for positioning as one of the world’s premier medical tourism players. The IP matrix showed that medical quality is the main competitive advantage of the private hospitals that can propel their growth in the global healthcare marketplace. The results also indicate that outcome quality, patient rights, and privacy, and service quality are the three quality domains that need to be prioritized for further improvement. On the other hand, the servicescape quality domain needs to be strategized as the unique selling proposition as the performance of the private hospitals in this regard is already extremely good.
