Purpose: To determine the efficacy of immediate pars plana vitrectomy as the primary treatment for acute endophthalmitis in patients with a visual acuity (VA) of hand motion (HM) or better. Methods: A total of 149 patients who were referred to a single center for acute endophthalmitis after cataract surgery over the 13-year study period were retrospectively analyzed. Only patients presenting with a VA of at least HM were included. Patients were initially treated with either primary vitrectomy or intravitreal antibiotic injection alone, and their visual outcomes and reintervention rates after initial treatment were compared. Results: There was no significant difference in the proportion of good (final VA ≥20 / 40) and poor (VA ≤ counting finger) visual outcomes between the groups. However, subgroup analysis of patients with a VA of HM (92 eyes) showed that the incidence of reintervention (14 of 72 eyes [19.4%] vs. 9 of 20 eyes [45.0%]) and poor visual outcomes (10 of 72 eyes [13.9%] vs. 8 of 20 eyes [40.0%]) were lower after prompt vitrectomy than after intravitreal antibiotic injection alone (p = 0.019 and p = 0.022, respectively). For those with a VA of at least counting finger, no significant difference was observed between the groups. Conclusions: For patients with endophthalmitis presenting with a VA of HM, performing a prompt vitrectomy reduced the incidence of reintervention and poor visual outcomes than the administration of intravitreal antibiotics alone. Our results suggest that primary vitrectomy for patients with endophthalmitis presenting with a VA of HM could be more beneficial than intravitreal antibiotic injection alone.

<P>As the data rate of Low Power Double Data Rate 4 (LPDDR4) memory now exceeds 3.2 Gb/s, it is becoming more difficult to meet the target specifications. While testing has become of utmost importance, it is not viable to have a direct access to the signal pins in a package on package configuration due to the densely located array of solder balls; instead, a test interposer with an excellent electrical performance needs to be adopted to provide test access. In this paper, we first propose a novel test interposer scheme for testing LPDDR4 memory packages. For accurate testing without significant influence on the intrinsic signal path, the proposed test interposer is designed considering a number of signal integrity issues such as intersymbol interference, jitter, impedance matching, and crosstalk. Furthermore, by adopting silicone rubber sheet in place of soldering, the proposed test interposer enhances reusability of the packages with a fast setup time. Moreover, a reconstruction method is proposed that can reconstruct the voltage at application processor using the waveform captured on the test interposer, instead of probing at the ball gray array directly. Through a series of simulations and measurements, we experimentally verified the proposed test interposer. The proposed test interposer scheme can be widely adopted for testing of high-performance packages with its high accuracy and practicality.</P>

Depression is common after acute coronary syndrome (ACS), adversely affecting cardiac course and prognosis. There have been only a few evidence-based treatment options for depression in ACS. Accordingly, we planned the Korean Depression in ACS (K-DEPACS) study, which investigated depressive disorders in patients with ACS using a naturalistic prospective design, and the Escitalopram for DEPACS (EsDEPACS) trial, which assessed the efficacy and safety of escitalopram for treating major or minor depression in patients with ACS. Participants in the K-DEPACS study were consecutively recruited from patients with ACS who were recently hospitalized at Chonnam National University Hospital, Gwangju, South Korea. Diagnoses were confirmed by coronary angiography from 2005. Data on depressive and cardiovascular characteristics were obtained at 2 weeks, 3 months, 12 months, and every 6 months thereafter following the index ACS admission. The K-DEPACS participants who met the DSM-IV criteria for major or minor depressive disorder were randomly assigned to groups in the 24-week, double-blind, placebo-controlled EsDEPACS trial beginning in 2007. The outcome of treatments for depressive and other psychiatric symptoms, issues related to safety, including general adversity, and cardiovascular factors were assessed. The K-DEPACS study can significantly contribute to research on the complex relationships between depression and ACS. The results of the EsDEPACS trial provide an additional treatment option for clinicians treating these patients.

<P>We propose, for the first time, an explicit semiconductor physics-based through-silicon via (TSV) capacitance-voltage (CV) model. The effect of TSV CV hysteresis is demonstrated in the model, and the TSV capacitance is modeled with respect to dc bias voltage and the dimension of the TSV. The proposed model is verified by comparison to the measurement results. The effect of hysteresis in the model correlates well with the measurement results. This model can be utilized in a circuit level simulation to expand the possible application of the model to, but not limited to, hierarchical power distribution network impedance analysis, RC delay analysis, input-output power consumption analysis, and crosstalk and eye diagram simulation in any 3-D-IC systems using TSVs.</P>

<P>Both self-healable conductors and stretchable conductors have been previously reported. However, it is still difficult to simultaneously achieve high stretchability, high conductivity, and self-healability. Here, we observed an intriguing phenomenon, termed ?electrical self-boosting?, which enables reconstructing of electrically percolative pathways in an ultrastretchable and self-healable nanocomposite conductor (over 1700% strain). The autonomously reconstructed percolative pathways were directly verified by using microcomputed tomography and <I>in situ</I> scanning electron microscopy. The encapsulated nanocomposite conductor shows exceptional conductivity (average value: 2578 S cm?1; highest value: 3086 S cm?1) at 3500% tensile strain by virtue of efficient strain energy dissipation of the self-healing polymer and self-alignment and rearrangement of silver flakes surrounded by spontaneously formed silver nanoparticles and their self-assembly in the strained self-healing polymer matrix. In addition, the conductor maintains high conductivity and stretchability even after recovered from a complete cut. Besides, a design of double-layered conductor enabled by the self-bonding assembly allowed a conducting interface to be located on the neutral mechanical plane, showing extremely durable operations in a cyclic stretching test. Finally, we successfully demonstrated that electromyogram signals can be monitored by our self-healable interconnects. Such information was transmitted to a prosthetic robot to control various hand motions for robust interactive human-robot interfaces.</P> [FIG OMISSION]</BR>

In this study, the effect of turbine geometry on the overall performance of a gas turbine was investigated by computational fluid dynamics. Overall engine performance was predicted through a full engine simulation program which can predict the interactions of the compressor, the combustor and the turbine. The compressor and the turbine analysis code solves 2D and 3D Navier-Stokes equations respectively. The chemical equilibrium code was applied to simulate the combustor. The computations were performed for two different shapes of turbine nozzle. The nozzle shapes adopted a baseline blade and a blade with fillet.
